Saving Forms

I am currently using Adobe Acrobat X Pro, and I am creating a form that allows the user to fill in certain fields.  I would like the user to be able to save their own copy, but not actually replace the original form.
Is this possible and if so, how do I save it in this way?
Thank you for your help!

You might add a save as button and then make the original read only. If they download the form, what is the problem with them overwriting the form?

  • Saving forms takes long time.

    Hi,
    I our system we foud that, when many users are working - saving form (from both web interface and smartview) in one of our planning app takes a long time (over 10 minutes).
    When there are few users working it takes only few seconds.
    What can be done to increase planning performance in situations like this?
    Best regards,

  • Offline scenario - post data from saved form to SQLServer

    This is the scenario am struggling to develop. User downloads the interactive form.  Goes offline. I mean no connection to the Web Application Server. But he will have access to a SQLServer database (it may be on his machine or in his intranet). He will fill the form and save it on his local hard disk. Now, I want his saved form data to be posted to the SQLServer.  I thought about a couple of ways to do this.
    1) Is it possible to change the control type of 'Submit' button to submit and then in the URL field, call some ASP page (this page is deployed on a local IIS) and then submit the form fields to that ASP page which takes care of database connection, posting etc. So user downloads form only once. But fills it with different data each time and clicks submit. First of all, will submit button work when the form is not opened in web browser? I mean when it is saved on a local hard disk opened in a standalone Adobe Reader?
    2) Is it possible to write some java program using any APIs and extract the data from the form saved on local hard disk? It may be possible because I have the .xdp file for the form. But I dont know if there are some APIs available to do the same.
    Any inputs whether these ideas are feasible? Any other new ideas are also welcome. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Narayana,
    if you want to export xml data from Reader to local disk you can use a command:
    xfa.host.exportData("",0);
    It works like from menu Export data from Forms.
    To your second post:
    Yes, you can save form in Adobe Live cycle designer as pdf and you can open it in Adobe Reader and test it. It will work.
    In tab Submit for your button set these properties:
    Submit Format: XML Data (XML)
    Submit to URL: url of your page
    Encoding: UTF8
    Here is a sample code in c# for asp.net. Insert method save to your asp.net page and call it from method Page_Load.
              using System;
              using System.IO;
              using System.Web;
              private void save()
                   const int coniBufferLen=1024;
                   string lsTmpFile;
                   try
                        lsTmpFile="c:\adobe\body.pdf.xml.txt";  // File on local disk where to save xml data sent by Reader. IIS needs rights to write here.
                        FileStream loFS=null;
                        try {loFS=File.Create(lsTmpFile);}
                        catch (Exception e1)

                        int liCelkem=Request.ContentLength;
                        int liNacteno=0;
                        byte[] laResponse=null;
                        int liLen=Math.Min(coniBufferLen,liCelkem-liNacteno);
                        while (liLen>0)
                             try
                                  laResponse=Request.BinaryRead(liLen);
                                  loFS.Write(laResponse,0,liLen);
                             catch (Exception e1)
                                  try {loFS.Close();}
                                  catch {}
                                  try {File.Delete(lsTmpFile);}
                                  catch {}
                                  // TODO
                                  return;
                             liNacteno+=liLen;
                             liLen=Math.Min(coniBufferLen,liCelkem-liNacteno);
                        loFS.Close();
                   catch (Exception e2)

  • Saving Form created in Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard (V 9.4.5)

    Hi,
    I was wondering if someone could help me.
    I have a form that is created in Adobe 9 that is sent out and the form is filled out and then submitted back but the problem is that many of the users who click the "Submit Form" button it does not appear to open an email with the form attached (this works for me and some of the people but it appears that more and more users of the form have the problem).
    I was wondering if it is possible to have the users save the form once it has been filled in so it can be manually emailed as an attachement.
    If so how do I go about amending the form so it can be saved.
    My thanks in advance for your assistance.
    Kindest Regards
    Laig007

    Thank you for your swift response,
    The problem is that the form has to be filled out and then submitted via email, as you mentioned the email clients have trouble, I do not have a problem with the amount of submissions as I do not think I will ever hit the max on the form.
    I have been doing some digging, can I use "Extend Forms Fill-In & Save In Adobe Reader" function on the form so the users can fill out the form and then save it? And if so are you also able to have the "submit Form" function with this or can it only be one or the other?
    Thanks in Advance

    Problem solved.
    Better Remove apex 3.2 (export your applications first)
    Then do fresh install of apex 4.
    And it works

  • Saving Forms in Database

    Hi All,
    We are being unable to save a form into the database.
    This form is all along been saved in the database and it is one
    of the common forms which we use throughout our applications and it basically contains common blocks , procedures which are used or referenced by all file system forms across the application.
    The problem has started recently after we did some changes in it and then again try to store it back into the database. Basically we store another form (900KB) in DB along with this one (2200KB),
    I have tested, with the other form already in the database we
    are not being able to save a form of this big size in the
    database, whereas it allows us to save the form only if its size
    is less than 1600KB. That means it is a form size related issue.
    If anybody has faced similar problem and know if there is any
    change or tuning required in any of the database schema objects
    then please help me. Its a mission critical problem for our
    organisation.
    ORACLE PEOPLE PLEASE HELP US !
    We are using forms 4.5 with Oracle 8.0.6 on MS WindowsNT 4.0.
    Thanks in advance.

    Yes Grant, we get error message :
    The Windows Error (F50des32.exe - Application error) :The
    instruction at "0x5d9e9280" referenced memory at "0x0001567a".
    The memory could not be "read".
    Basically we have two forms in the database, say form1 and form2. Form2 itself is referencing objects in form1, and both these forms are referenced by other filesystem forms. We are unable to save the form2 but not the form1.
    Each time we try to save the Form2 in the database we are facing the problem. Form1.fmb is of the size 828KB, whereas Form2.fmb is 2200KB. Is the problem related to the size of the form ? I believe these forms are stored in the SYSTEM tablespace, I checked the system tablespace, its used 117MB and is 22MB free, initial extent is 122880 and next is 122880 with max
    extent 300.
    This problem is having in all our test databases and is not
    really related to any particular machine (statistics given is of
    one of our test database).This problem may have occured before
    but I am not sure as we are in need to change in the database
    forms first time after I have taken over responsibility.Please
    look into the problem with high priority as we are in need to
    update live applications ASAP.

  • Errors on saved form when designed with Acrobat 9 Pro

    I have created a file with Acrobat 9 Pro with fields, check boxes, etc.... for customers to fill in, save, and e-mail/print .
    I finally managed to get the form to be saved by any Adobe Acrobat Reader 8 (or above). But when they open their saved , filled-in form, the contents have changed! The boxes they have ticked are no longer ticked, but others are instead...

    LiveCycle Designer is no longer distributed as part of the Acrobat release. I think it is available as a separate product. At this point, Acrobat provides the AcroForm type tools (kind of hard to get to, just as in some previous versions) and the option for Forms Central. The whole focus has changed. I suspect that others may be in the same situation of trying to get their forms to interact in Acrobat or Forms Central, but at this point I do not think there is any way to back Designer forms into either of the two current formats. Not much help, but a comment in any case.

  • Saving form last modified in LiveCycle Designer as PDF version 1.4

    I have a PDF fillable form that was last modified/saved in LiveCycle Designer. The PDF is currently version 1.7, but I need to reduce it to version 1.4 (for compatibility reasons). The way I normally do this is to open the PDF in Acrobat and use the optimizer to save it down to version 1.4, but with this form I'm getting a message that says "The PDF document contains an Adobe XML form. Such files cannot be optimized." I downloaded the trial version of Designer ES4, but I'm not having any luck taking it down to version 1.4. Does anyone know if  it's possible to save down this kind of PDF to version 1.4?

    LiveCycle PDFs aren't normal Acrobat PDFs, they're an XML file with a wrapper - that's why you can't optimize them.
    You can't save to specific PDF versions, but you can change the target version of the form from Designer. I'm not sure what options Designer ES4 gives you but under the Defaults tab of File>Form Properties you can change the Target Version - I'm using ES2 can can change the compatibility back to Acrobat 7.0.5 (PDF 1.6).

  • Saving forms Acrobat 9

    Hi All. I have created numerous forms using Acrobat 9 Pro and I have extended reader rights so that they can be filled in and saved. When i download these forms from our server i can write into them and save. If i open this file again i am no longer able to write into it and save. Is this normal or have i not ticked some box when creating the file. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated because I'm going round in circles with this one. Thanks in advance Graham Carson

    At the moment it's only me because the site hasn't gone live yet so i am creating the forms and then uploading to our server then downloading and opening in reader 8. When i initially download its running through Acrobat 9 pro - i then save to my local disk, go to open in reader 8 and then it says i can't save into the form. If it makes a difference i am using the server side to combine PDF files (with the forms in them) so that i effectively just download 1 file. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong.

  • Saving form created in Acrobat XI so other users cannot edit contents

    I created a form in Acrobat XI and added information to the fields.  I created multiple files, each with different data.  I want users with Reader to be able to see the completed forms using Reader, but not be able to edit the fields.  Hopefully I don't have to go through the settings under File -> Preferences -> Security because they are dreadfully complex.  Hopefully there is a simple solution.

    Thank you Gilad, for the prompt response.  Can you briefly explain how to
    "flatten" the file?  There is no option with that word in any of the
    dropdowns.  Also, where would one find the "Action" option?  Again, I'm not
    seeing it.  As noted, I am using Acrobat XI.
    Regardless, I think that I found the solution: File -> Save as Other...->
    Archivable PDF (PDF/A).  When I did that, it saved the file, but gave an
    error message that I ignored.  Information in the fields was then visible,
    but not editable.  Also, I was able to link multiple files together using
    Create -> Combine Files into a Single PDF... such that each record was
    different.
    Thank you again.

  • Saving form with content (end user)

    I have created a form using AdobeLiveCycle Designer.
    Everything seams to work when I tested it... However, When I send it for someone to fill out, she wanted to save a copy for her records with the data included. I was able to do a simple "save as" to achieve this. but she was not and received a message, stating "Data typed into this form will not be saved. Acrobat reader can only save a blank version of the form." then goes on to say "please print you completed form if you would like a copy for you records" "print form" button appears.
    My question: Is there a way to format or save out the form so that someone with only reader can save a completed version of the form. How do I do this?
    Thanks!

    The form has to have special Extended Reader Rights enabled. There are many posts and pinned FAQs about this.

  • Where do I go to find saved forms that I created?

    Help!!! I spent all this time making my form and now I want to retrieve it!  Where do I go?

    Hi k.k.,
    Did you use FormsCentral to create the file, or Acrobat? If you used FormsCentral, you'll find your form in your account at Adobe FormsCentral.
    If you were using Acrobat, and saved the PDF file, it would've saved to whatever folder you last saved a PDF into. If you choose File > Open Recent File in Acrobat, your PDF form should be listed on the recent files list,
    Best,
