SC 2012 licensing

Hello,
I have 2 questions about SC 2012 licensing.
1) I have a physical host with 3 VMs. On this host is installed SCOM agent and on 1 of VMs also is SCOM agent. So how many Standard licenses I need?
2) I have physical host with 30 VMs. On this host is installed SCOM agent, but VMs are without agent. Same question.
Thank you,
Best regards

Hi,
You should review the licensing datasheet at

  • Windows Server 2012 Licensing on VMWARE ESX

    Hi,
As in the following example, 2 Host, 2 CPU each, 10 VMs = 10 Windows License?? is this true
    Or each Windows 2012 License = 2x VMs, 5 x Windows 2012 Standart
    = 10 VMs
    2 Hosts, 2 CPUs each, 10 VMs
10 VMs with 2 hosts means that it is possible to have all 10 VMs on a single host.  You have two options to license each host for up to 10 VOSEs.
Firstly you could license each of the hosts with 5 copies of Windows Server 2012 Standard.  That will give you 10 (5 * 2) VOSEs.  This requires 10 (5 * 2 hosts ) copies of Standard at a cost of $8,820 using USA Open NL.
Alternatively you could license each host with 1 copy of Windows Server 2012 Datacenter, at a cost of $9,618.  The extra $798 will allow you to burst beyond 10 VOSEs to unlimited VOSEs.  Switching to licensing hosts using the Datacenter edition
means we don’t have to count VOSEs and we have unrestricted mobility between hosts.

    Hi Adem,
    >>each Windows 2012 License = 2x VMs, 5 x Windows 2012 Standart
    = 10 VMs
As Tim said , we recommend you to contact Microsoft Activation Center for an accurate assistance for lisence issue :

  • SCCM 2012 License requirements

    Hi all
    i'm little confused with SCCM 2012 licensing , :)
i have a environment with 700 users that require SCCM services. 650 client computers 50 servers. mainly required for software update service from SCCM.
i'm going to install single-primary site server (Physical) with SQL server co-hosted. SCCM client will be deployed to 650 client computers (win 7) and 50 servers (physical).
please tell me the licenses that required for this solution (how many system center standards and client ML/ server ML)
    Asitha

    Hi,
For the clients it is easy, 1 CAL per computer, they are included in both Core CAL and Enterprise CAL if you have that for your clients.
For the Site Server there is no cost, and SQL user Rights are included so as long as you use SQL Server Standard and only use it for System Center 2012 products no SQL Server License is required.
For the servers that you will manage it is more tricky, it is based on VM's per host .. cehck this link for details.

  • SCCM 2012 License Management

    Hi,
Wanted to understand the SCCM 2012 License management process, let me explain our current setup
As per my understanding, KMS captures the license count for bill-ability in SPLA.
    1. 200 plus servers in DC - managed as shared service - Licensed by Service company - KMS hosted on DC. Owned by service company.
    2. 4000 plus workstations, 20 plus servers - regional sites - managed by client themself - KMS hosted on local site. Owned by Client.
So question is, both are two different kms managing two different set of owned machines.
If i set up SCCM 2012 in data Centre, how to capture the license information?
    Thanks in advance.
    $Bug

Configuration manager has no license management process and no a KMS does not capture license counts for billability (a KMS actually stops counting at 50).
License tracking is another story and generally the built-in Asset Intelligence reports in ConfigMgr will do the job for Microsoft products. The systems must all be managed by ConfigMgr however. From there, simply instance counting is pretty trivial whether
you use the built-in reports or not though as its a simple inventory.
    Jason | http://blog.configmgrftw.com | @jasonsandys
Okay, so SCCM asset intelligence reports are sufficient to count/calculate billability for System Centre as SPLA.
Thanks a lot for your help.

  • Downgrade Windows Server 2012 License to WIndows Server 2008 R2

    Hi all,
I'm looking to downgrade a windows server 2012 open license to windows server 2008 r2.
Thing is i do not have an existing windows server 2008 r2 VLK.
Can anyone confirm that this downgrade is possible, as clearinghouse is not helping by telling me that i can't buy windows server 2008 r2 licenses

Clearinghouse is right in stating you can't buy Windows Server 2008 R2
    licenses anymore.
You'll need a Windows Server 2008 R2 disk kit and product key. They'll sell those to you, since you already own a license that allows you to install and use the software as part of your Windows Server 2012 license.

  • SCCM 2012 License On Virtual Server

I am trying to understand the Microsoft license and was wondering any of the experiences guys here can help with the scenario below.
I have a physical server with 2 physical processors and Vsphere is installed on the host.My plan is to install SCCM as a VM which will manage about 5 physical Host and 80Virtual servers. Does than mean with one datacenter license, i can increase the number
of Virtual processor and Virtual core as much as i like on the SCCM server without breaking Microsoft licensing Agreement?

    Hi,
There are no license for the SCCM Server itself you license the endpoints.
This article describes it really good,

  • SCCM 2012 License query

    Hi,
I need a SCCM 2012 report where it gives the following details
OS, Vendor, Total License, Used License, Free License.
To fetch the above details do we need to import and configure the software licenses.
    Thanks
    Sunny

Suppose if i enabled and configured the above parameters as said by you then on which tables\views we can fetch these details (OS, Vendor, Total License, Used License, Free License.)
Once you import the license statement , look at the built-in AI reports. if they don't give you what you want then you will need to create a custom report.

  • 2012 Licensing Problem

I would like to make everyone aware of an issue with RDS and the FIX from Microsoft services which I consider unacceptable.
The setup is as follows. One 2012 DC with Terminal server licensing installed. Two 2012 servers with RDS enabled. Take note that RDS was NOT deployed using the wizard as there is no need
for all of the resources of a server farm for 2 servers. On each of the RDS enabled servers, group policey was used to enable and specify the RDS server and licensing mode. The RD Licensing Diagnoser was used to verify, and report that no licensing
problems for the Remote Desktop Session Host Server existed, and the tray icon that reports that you are running a trial version of RDS does NOT appear.
Advance forward a few months and users start reporting that they cannot login and that they are receiving “The remote session was disconnected because there are no RDS license servers available
    to provide a license."
After doing all that I could I filed a case with Microsoft Support at the Highest Level Possible. After a month I finally was able to talk to someone. After 2 more weeks, here is the solution
    they gave me….
Open the registry, Navigate to HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\TerminalServer\RCM
    Delete the GracePeriod Key
    Reboot
This continues to occur every few months. I wish someone at MS would FIX the problem.
    Lee

    sure.
i have 5x 2012 RDS farms, nearly identical in configuration dispersed throughout the globe, each farm has:
    2x RDSH
1x RDCB, RDWeb, RDLicense server with 2012 CALs deployed as User Mode
We are pointing directly to the license server in our collection settings (only 1 collection per farm) and also again via GPO settings to override license server auto discovery options
These systems were rolled out using scenario-based installs so while RDWeb is there, it's not actually being used (nothing published to it), users are leveraging session-based desktops via RDP client both internally and externally
systems are all domain joined, we're still on 2003 functional level in AD
i first encountered this issue around the 120 days mark after the first farm went into production, we saw that users could not login and event ID 1130 was being thrown for every login attempt.
i saw this article and followed the steps to resolve it:
    http://www.360ict.nl/blog/no-remote-desktop-licence-server-availible-on-rd-session-host-server-2012/
however, after another 120 days passed, i ran into the same issue again, realizing this was not a permanent fix.  after just opening the case with MS on this a couple of weeks ago, they've told me it's a bug and so for now, i proactively purge the
    L$RTMTIMEBOMB_nnnn key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\RCM\GracePeriod, i restart
TermService so i don't have to reboot the whole box and it's fine for another 120 days
during the issue and even when it's not occurring, licensing diagnostics come up clean, i haven't taken a report while the issue is occurring but when it's not occurring the reports  show CALs being assigned to all users by the license server.
basically, it seems like even though we have a license server that is activated with user CALs, the Review section shows green checks under both sections, and reporting is fine - the system is stuck in 120 day trial mode for some reason.
now MS did say they know about this and they're working on a fix, hopefully not to just get me off the phone, but they didn't have a different workaround and advised that i continue doing what i'm doing.
what i don't really understand is that when i remove the L$RTMTIMEBOMB_nnnn
key from the registry, it gets recreated upon the first user logon that has to go talk to the license server. in a working 2012 environment, should this key even exist if an active license server is already available?

  • Windows 2012 License activation (MAK)

I have a Windows Server 2012 Std - via OpenLicense (Physical Host + DC and a VM for Exchange 2013)
Needed to add Remote Desktop Services - so purchased another License for Windows 2012 Std on the OpenLicense again.
Installed Windows 2012 on another Physical box - when I try to activate using MAK key I get an error that key is not valid.
    Ok...I think its a R2 and NOT R2 issue!
The original Licenses included Windows 2012 St and Windows 2012 R2 keys but the new license does not !
because the 1st Server is Windows 2012 Std - (NOT R2)  the copy I installed is NOT R2 as I wanted to keep BOTH server running the same version. [When I have more time I intend to do a lab deploy of R2 and test]
    is there a way around this ? i.e. without doing a R2 install ??
I really need to go live with this tomorrow (monday).
Does anyone know - would it be legal to use the MAK supplied with my 1st order ?

    Sorted...got non R2 keys issued...

  • System Center 2012 license question

Hi all, a general question regarding system center 2012 software assurance (didn't find any appropriate thread hence posting this here as SCCM is the main component in the suite)
Q: I came across 'software assurance' in the licensing document which is part of system center 2012 suite purchase (STD or DC edition). I wanted to know if we would like to extend the SA period beyond the first 3 years, how it works? Do we need to extend
the contract for an additional 3 year term (product suite + SA) or an annual basis?
    thanks!

  • SQL Server 2012 Licensing Development - Production

I currently have 4 environments dev, qa ,staging and production each has a separate SQL 2012 instance on its own server (4 Instances).  My question is on licensing SQL Server and when developers edition licensing can be used and when it become production
licensing.  For Example:  If developers are working local connecting to development DB and/or local DB.  What is the proper licensing model?  Can I consider these three environments development and not use a SQL Enterprise license?
If so each developer must have an MSDN account for the licensing?   I am a little foggy on when is developers edition becomes SQL Enterprise License.

  • 2012 license

    Hello all,
I just performed the 2010 to 2012 upgrade and I have a few questions.
    - where is the list of changes / fixes between the two ?
    - when is the Linux version coming out ? I certainly HOPE that bug #344028 has been fixed...
    - I upgraded my main PC which uses the floating license server. How do I upgrade my laptop which doesn't ? Do I just proceed with the NI updater and all will be fine ? Do I need to give the same licence number as the floating one ? Or some other way ? [ Is NI's longstanding usage of providing 3 installs for each license still valid ? ]
    - why is the Upgrader so needy ? It upgrades itself, then .NET, then a whole bunch of other stuff before finally getting 2012...
    Thanks.

    Hello Alex,
-When you say "floating license server", do you mean a volume license server, Flex, or something different?
It's a volume license server, which appears on its own in the license manager of my main PC, which registers DevSuite 2012 DS1, and under 'local licenses' I have 8.5, 2010 and 2012.
-When you refer to a "license number", do you mean a serial number for CVI 2012?
Yes. I don't recall exactly how I got 2010 validated on my laptop without access to the license server (different subnet not allowed from the laptop), but I think I just gave it the license number I got for the main PC install.
-You can get CVI 2012 from the disk or download it here. NI Updater doesn't do full version upgrades, only patches
I think you are wrong here, as the NI updater definitely installed 2012 (12.0.0 422) next to my previous versions. And on my laptop I still have 2010.
-Try using the serial number that you have: if it works, great, otherwise it might give us more insight to the problem
I just ran the updater on the laptop and it shows a padlock next to CVI 2012 with the message saying that I don't have a subscription to the SSP (Standard Service Program). Don't know how to proceed here (I don't have an install disk, although I can normally get a download from the license server).
If you would like some help getting CVI 2012 activated, you can call 1-866-275-6964 and create a service request for LabWindows/CVI activation (for single-seat) or Volume License Manager (if you have a volume license agreement).
OK, will do if I don't find a more direct way. Thanks.

  • SQL standard 2012 licenses for SCCM 2012 R2

    Hi,
We are implementing SCCM R2 for customer, is the license for SQL standard 2012 included in price for SCCM licenses, we have around 5000 mahcines to be managed also a Secondary with express edition installed .
can secondary and primary have different version of SQL for replication ? or it should be same version?
is there a requirement for SQL standard like processor (How many number of processer can be used if this
license is free of cost for SCCM2012  (any limitations ) )  Is license cost calculated based on processor ?
also how many DB can be installed with standard on single instance ? can we use it for WSUS, MDT DB?
how will i get this SQL standard free version from Microsoft any download location.
    Please advise.
    Thanks
    Shuaib

SQL Server Standard is included with all System Center products. As Tim said CPUs are irrelevant in this case.
You can use whatever versions of SQL you like as long as they are supported. However isn't it always best to standardise.
You can install as many databases as you like as long as they are System Center related - the ones you mentioned are OK.
The customer should download SQL from their Microsoft Volume Licensing Center. If they choose the SQL that is bundled with System Center it will be pre-populated with a license key.
