Scaling 3D Revolve object

I am working in 5.5 and have a 3D revolved globe object with a map art applied. It is currently in A2 art board size and I need to increase to A0. When I scale the object I get "The combination of artwork size and resolution exceeds the maximum that can be rasterized." I have tried adjusting the rasterize setting and the map art. Is there anything else I can try?

Hi Mike and Wade
Thanks so much for your response!
Mike
Yes, I know this is a very large size. I first produced the file in A2 size and had no revolve rastering problems. The vendor increased the PDF ( which is exported by third party and have no comtrol how it is exported) size to A0 and printed the poster which looks blothy in the gradients and drop shadows. The poster is being printed at 72 dpi for cost reasons and I have no control over that either.The vendor recommended to increase art size to A0 and claims that if the file input RIP to the printer is the same size as the output size, the blotchness will not happen. This has been the third test run, see below about second run.
Wade
Yes, I have changed the Rasterizing setting to 72 ppi in the Effects drop down and it didn't help. The map art is just meridian lines that wrap around the globe that I created as a symbol in u. I have tried playing with that too.
Could it be Illustrator choking on the A0 size or memory problems on my iMac to handle?
More info, that might help. The second test run of the poster was from a 150 MB Photoshop A0 file and printed perfect. The vendor requested a vector base file due to the size and complexity of the psd file, apparently problems RIPPING to the printer.
I was hoping for a simple answer and didn't want to get into details at first posting. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    No! Just keep working with it you can adjust the original smart object file and retiuch it and all will update just click on the smart object  in the layers panel everything will work as you expect it to.

  • Image scaling problem with object handles

    Hi,
    I am facing scaling problem.I am using custom actionscript component called editImage.EditImage consists imageHolder a flexsprite which holds
    image.Edit Image component is uing object handles to resize the image.I am applying mask to the base image which is loaded into imageholder.
    My requirement is when I scale the editImage only the mask image should be scaled not the base image.To achieve this I am using Invert matix .With this
    the base image is not scaled but it  is zoomed to its original size.But the base image should not zoomed and it should fit to the imageholder size always. When I scale the editImage only the mask image should scale.How to solve this.Please help .
    With thanks,

    Hi Viki,
    I am scaling the mask image which is attached to imageHolder.When i  scale
    the image both the images are scaled.
    If u have time to find the below link:

  • Scaling distorts my objects

    Scaling an object up or down doesnt seem to work anymore. I feel like the effect is random but my points dont scale correctly. there are small distortions in various instances.
    The distortion is random, I can scale the same object down 20 different times and get 20 different results. Unfortunately none of them are ever a perfect scale.

    dp,
    It is important to also untick Align New Objects to Pixel Grid in the flyout options, or any new objects will haunt you.
    You may avoid the document type in question, or change its default.

  • Not enough RAM?? [Revolving Objects]

    "The operation cannot complete because there isn't enough memory (RAM) available."
    One second I was able to revolve an object into 3D, then I do it again but receive this error message. I really need to get a project don! Anyone know how to resolve this. I was directed to a troubleshoot support page that seemed to only refer to damaged work files, so that was no help.
    Do I need to clear up some stuff on my computer to get more RAM? I already have 1 GB but the only other "big" program on my computer is Photoshop CS3...
    PS: I already tried both reinstalling the components (repairing) as well as reinstalling altogether...

    You might try some of the suggestions offered in these topics:
    tmalcom, "Illustrator CS3 .. ran out of memory.." #1, 10 Sep 2008 8:47 am
    Christoph Goetsch, "Error message prompt 'The application ran out of memory..'" #1, 29 Sep 2008 5:50 am
    Are you running Photoshop at the same time as Illustrator? If so, try the operation again with Photoshop closed.
    I would certainly check my Windows virtual memory (page file) setting and increase it if necessary.
    Finally, although 1GB of RAM might meet minimum system requirements, you and Illustrator will be a lot happier with at least twice that, especially if you're using a PC with "shared memory" for the graphics adapter.

  • Why are not all strokes scaled, not all objects scaled ?

    I have made a drawing. Then I want to scale it. I select to scale the strokes.
    But:
    - not all strokes are scaled: some are scaled, some are not scaled
    - several objects (that were cloned all from one object) are scaled differently and get different shapes.
    What's the cause? What am I doing wrong?
    Here you can see two screenshots: one before scaling, one after scaling to 45% and zooming in a bit.

    Hi Jacob,
    thank you very much to reply!
    Your tip solved the problem.
    I had thought that it could be something like this but didn't fint the place where the option could be (de)selected.
    It's a strange thing that also the stroke-problem is solved: can't realy explain...
    Illustrator may be the best-in-class, but you cannot imagine how much time I have already lost with this kind of 'problems'.
    Nevertheless, thanks again for helping me!

  • Scaling of point objects with MapViewer

    Hi forum
    Does anyone know, whether it's possible to make a marker style for point geometries, whose size somehow always is attached to the current map scale? What I want to do is: whenever the user zooms in and out on the map, I want the point markers to change size and be scaled according to the map scale.
    Is this possible? Whatever I try to do, the marker object always has the same size regardless of map scale.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jacob

    The MARKER style does not support this behavior yet. One possible work around is to manually create a set of marker styles for various map scale ranges with identical shape but varied size. The create multiple themes for the same set of data points, each theme using one of the marker styles and associated with a specific scale range (in the context of a base map).
    thanks

  • Scaling distance between objects (ill CC)

    Hello people!
    i have a pattern with different sized objects. i would like to change the overall appearance by keeping the size of the objects, but changing the distances between the objects.
    -> scaling the overall size of the pattern, but not the size of the objects

    bobster,
    In this case, you may create the pattern in a quite different way and just scale once according to need:
    1) Create a square of arbitrary size with no fill and a Stroke Weight equalling the dot size;
    2) Object>Path>Average, with Both ticked;
    Now you have the first dot;
    3) Create the pattern by copying, maybe through the Effect option followed by expanding;
    4) Just scale up as desired.
    This is most relevant in connexion with (possibly) repeated different scalings.

    Hi,
    Can anybody help me of designing Vi for different screen sizes. I have designed a VI for a monitor of small size and lower resolution but when I open the same Vi on a different monitor,objects are not aligned properly. The properties which I have changed are
    Window appearence->Default
    Window Size -> Panel size 0,0   & Tick marked options of Maintain propotions for different monitors and scale all objects
    Window Run Time position-> Maximum

    Solved!

    Imran,
    I can't solve your problem entirely.  However when I have to write a program that will be deployed on a variety of monitor sizes, I tend to set the size of the Front Panel to suit the smallest monitor, and then remove the ability of the user to resize it.
    Also, set it to run in the centred position.
    See attachments.

  • Scaling a Graphics2D object

    hi there! i have this drawing in a Graphics2D object and if I render it it takes around 2 seconds to load. if i scale it before I render it takes like 4 seconds to show up? is there anyway to speed this up?
    heres some of my code:
      public void paint(Graphics g){
            Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D) g;
            g2d.scale(0.5, 0.5); //// heres the line that slows down the system!
            for (int y = 0; y < 256; y++) {
                for (int x = 0; x < 256; x++) {
                    g2d.setPaint(new Color((int) Mod.mod(tree[0].evaluate(v), 255), (int) Mod.mod(tree[1].evaluate(v), 255), (int) Mod.mod(tree[2].evaluate(v), 255)));
                    g2d.drawRect(x, y, 0, 0);
        }Mind the drawing method, Im actually evulating an expression tree for each pixel on the canvas (256x256) so it produces a random pattern.

    Something I forgot earlier: if you apply transforms to your Graphics context, you need to undo those when your done. I.e. the paint method should actually look like this:public void paint(Graphics g){
      Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D) g;
      AffineTransform oldTransform = g2d.getTransform();
      // apply whatever transforms you need
      // calculate the position of the image's upper left corner
      int x = ...;
      int y = ...;
      g2d.drawImage(image, x, y, null);
      g2d.setTransform(oldTransform);
    }If you modify the Graphics context in other ways (e.g. setting a Color, Stroke, etc), too, it might be easier to work on a copy though:public void paint(Graphics g){
      Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D) ((Graphics2D) g).create();
      // apply whatever transforms you need
      // calculate the position of the image's upper left corner
      int x = ...;
      int y = ...;
      g2d.drawImage(image, x, y, null);
      g2d.dispose();
    }

  • Scaling and centering objects.

    Hi,
    I have a center window and a background in my flash file. I am trying to get the center window to stay in the center of the web browser screen and get the background to expand and fill the entire web browser screen below center window layer. Sort of like this site http://smlsd.com.
    I've currently converted the background to a movie clip and have this code.
    background_mc.width = stage.stageWidth;
    background_mc.height = stage.stageWidth;
    However, the background is not resizing to fill the screen,
    In publishing settings, I have dimensions to "Match Movie", Window mode in "Window", HTML alignment "Default", Scale set to "No Scale" (I don't want the center window to scale and loose proportion. It should have a set size.), and Flash alignment set to both "Center" and "Center".
    I do not know how to get the center window in the center of the screen and have the background automatically resize to fill the whole screen. Can somebody show me some code which would solve this problem and explain it to me? Thanks.

    this works:
    you can view it here http://cybermountainwebservices.com/fullBrowser/FullBrowserAS3.html
    stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
    stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
    var bmp:Tile = new Tile(35, 35);
    var tile:BitmapData = new BitmapData(35, 35);
    tile.draw(bmp);
    shelter.x = stage.stageWidth /2;
    shelter.y = stage.stageHeight /2;
    function fillBG(evt:Event = null):void {
      graphics.beginBitmapFill(tile);
      graphics.moveTo(0, 0);
      graphics.lineTo(stage.stageWidth, 0);
      graphics.lineTo(stage.stageWidth, stage.stageHeight);
      graphics.lineTo(0, stage.stageHeight);
      graphics.lineTo(0, 0);
      graphics.endFill();
    shelter.x = stage.stageWidth /2;
    shelter.y = stage.stageHeight /2;
    fillBG();
    stage.addEventListener(Event.RESIZE, fillBG);
    in  this case the fill is with a 35pxl x 35pxl gif file but you could just as easily use a color the item called shelter is the name of the jpg in the center.
    when you do this be sure in your publish settings to set dimension to percent 100 x 100  if you cont want a border or scrollbars around the outside be sure to set this css rule in your html   body {margin:0; padding:0; overflow:auto}

  • Object scaling does not seem to work correctly with objects containing Bezier curves

    I created a closed object that had a Bezier curve as part of it's definition. I wanted to scale it by 110% and then use this second enlarged object to create a sort of a background underneath the first object to create a sort of a shadow effect. But rather than the second object being uniformly larger than the first it intersects the original object in ways that don't make sense to me.
    Is there an easier/differnt way to create an effect like this? I can do it but have to manually adjust a lot of points in the new object so that they create a uniformly larger version of the original object but it's a lot of effort for something that works fine for normal polygons with straight lines (e.g. a star with 5 points).
    Thanks for any suggestions or ideas.
    -Bubba
    ps - i've attached an image of what I get with this technique of creating two examples of two objects one a 110% scale version of the other. The first star shows the effect I'm trying to get and the second shows the problem (the red border does not surround the black object uniformly around the perimeter)

    Bubba,
    Referring to post #16 (trying to get it more right from the start than in post #15),
    the scaling will be symmetric with parallel segments if the original object is rotationally symmetric and reflectionally symmetric about two orthogonal axes, and that is also the case.
    The scaling of the object in post #16 is in fact symmetric because corresponding segments of original and scaled object have the same distance all the way round.
    The five star in the OP is rotationally symmetric but only reflectionally symmetric about one axis, so the segments are parallel, but the scaling is not symmetric because there different distances between corresponding segments, even though you were actually satisfied with it:
    The first star shows the effect I'm trying to get and the second shows the problem
    This could be mended by scaling from the centroid.
    If you need to have the same distance between all the segments of original and scaled object, with scaling you are restricted to objects where all segments start and end at the same distance from the centroid, as in regular polygons (including the square), regular stars, and the circle (with its curved segments). Objects with curved segments derived from regular polygons and stars will have varying distances and non parallellism within each segment.

  • Scaling an object that contains a gradient

    I'm working in Illustrator CS3. Got a question: I'm looking to scale an object that contains a gradient, but I want the position of the gradient to remain in the same position on the page. That is, I don't want the gradient to scale along with the object. Is it possible to do this without manually rebuilding the gradient?

    Normal scaling of an object (using the Scale tool, Transform or dragging the bounding box) will always scale the gradient too, but there is a sort of workaround if you know where the gradient starts and ends in the original.
    If you haven't already marked the beginning and end of your gradient, do so by pasting a copy of it in front (Cmd-F) and expanding the gradient - then you can see its start and end points when you turn off the preview. Mark what you need with guides and delete the expanded gradient. It's useful to make a guide that follows the angle of the gradient.
    Now draw a gradient-filled rectangle behind your object and get the gradient to match the angle and position of the gradient in your object by dragging with the gradient tool according to the guides.
    Having done this, copy and scale your object and change it into a clipping mask that masks the rectangle you just drew. Alternatively you can make a masking layer of your object if you know how to do that.
    Lock the rectangle (if you are using a normal clipping mask) and then you can move the object (which is now a mask) at will and the gradient will stay put.
    This is all a bit long-winded but please get back to me if you're lost :-)

  • Transform handles are moving the object and not scaling.

    I've been running into trouble with the transform handles on objects moving the object instead of scaling/stretching the object. It seems to happen on the bottom and right sides vs the top and left sides. When I have the mouse over the handle it shows the scaling icon, but when I press the mouse it turns into the black selection arrow. Is anyone else experiencing this and know how to fix it?

    kjredin,
    I am afraid you have come across the Live Rectangle bug which is limited to the MAC versions starting with 10.7 and 10.8, but not 10.9 (Mavericks) or 10.10 (Yosemite). Hopefully, the bug will be fixed soon.
    So a switch to Mavericks or Yosemite with a reinstallation might be the way to solve it here and now.
    To get round it in each case, it is possible to Expand the Live Rectangles to get normal old fashioned rectangles, or to Pathfinder>Unite, or to use the Scale Tool or the Free Transform Tool.
    A more permanent way round that is to create normal old fashioned rectangles, after running the free script created by Pawel, see this thread with download link:

  • Vector shape to smart object, is blurry when scaled

    I've recently been upgraded to Photoshop CS5.5 and am having issues with smart objects.
    Quite often I would:
    make a shape layer, say a circle
    apply a layer style, say a stroke and drop-shadow
    Convert this to a smart-object
    Resize this object to whatever I needed and it would scale perfectly, the layer styles and crisp edge would scale.
    Now, when I use this same workflow, the whole object becomes blurry - like it's become one giant bitmap instead of retaining its original nature.
    The blurred smart object loses it's vector nature and looks horrible, this is surely an error.

    It depends on how you scale the smart object layer. If you just use Ctrl+T free transform Photoshop will matieilize the pixels for the layer then resize the materilazed pixel layer like normal raster layer not text not a shape layer. If on the otherhand you double click on the smart object icon in the layer in the layers palette Photoshop will open the smart object in photoshop. If it a RAW file it wil open in ACR. If is is a Photoshop Document like a PSD, Tif, Jpeg etc it will open in Photosgop. If it is some Photoshop object like a layer group a collection of layers an vector shape layer it will open in Phpotoshop.  You can then scale the smart object  with Photoshop tools like ACR or Image size set resample constrain scale layer style etc to scale the smart object when you use save the change Photoshop will update the smaer object layer in the document. You can do the save by clicking the Close icon and respond yes to save.  Scaling the smart object layr this way  will scale text and vectors the way you want them to be scaled.
