Scanner reported an error Canon Pixma MG7550

I can print through my USB cable to my new Canon Pixma MG7550 on my McBook Air with OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 but when I try to scan I get a message saying
Scanner reported an error,
Cannot communicate with scanner for these reasons:
- Scanner is turned off.
- USB cable is disconnected.
Please check and try again.
I have re-downloaded the software but it still won't scan. Needless to say, it is definitely connected as it prints perfectly.
Any help gratefully received.

  • "Scanner Reported an Error"...Okay, What Error How Do I Fix It?

    My Mac specs are below.  I have a Canon MG3120 multifunction printer/scanner.  This is the first time I have used it to scan something since I upgraded to Mavericks.  I scan using the built-in Image Capture app.  After scanning several items, a box popped up saying:
    "Scanner reported an error
    An error occurred during scanning."
    Well, that's not very helpful.  I've been given no indication of what this error might be.  As far as I can tell, there is nothing wrong with the files I created.  The scans were successful.  I checked the logs in Console, and nothing was generated that would point to this.  This never happened prior to Mavericks.  Can anyone tell me what might be happening and what I might do to stop it?
    I'm going to install all of the latest up-to-date drivers and see if the issue recurs.  Other than that, I've got nothing.

  • EPSON Workforce 310 "scanner reported an error" when using document feeder

    I'm having trouble using my EPSON Workforce 310 printer/scanner with my new MacBook Pro (late 2012, 2.5 GHz i5, OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2).
    Using the flatbed I can scan without a problem. But when I try to use the document feeder, I get the following error right after I click Scan and before the scanner has done anything (at least I don't hear anything moving inside the EPSON):
         Scanner reported an error
         An error occured during scanning
    The EPSON's display doesn't show any error or special message.
    This is repeated whether I use Image Capture, Preview's Import from Scanner, or the printer's native app (PrinterProxy, the one that shows up in the doc whenever the printer is printing or scanning).
    I have no problem doing the scanning from my old iMac (2006, 2GHz Core Duo, Snow Leopard). After scanning to the MacBook fails I can walk over to the iMac and scan from there without problem and without resetting anything on the EPSON.
    The EPSON is connected the home network via ethernet to a Time Capsule. Both computers are connected to the network via WiFi.

    Syd,
    My wife's iMac with 10.6.6 stopped working with her Epson 2480 Photo scanner. Get the error message "SCANNER reported an error. An error has occurred during scanning" I am trying to use it from the Image Capture App or from the print/fax option in Settings which opens Image Capture. I ran the uninstall program and then reinstalled the ICA 13969 .dmg but get the same error. Not sure what else I can do.

  • Epson 1670 Perfection Photo Scanner gives "Scanner reported an error" in Image Capture

    I can not get my scanner to work.  It gives a generic "Scanner reported an error.  An error occurred during scanning" message anytime I try to scan something.   I have tried downloading the drivers from Epson and get the same result.  I am using a 2011 MacBook Pro 15" with Snow Leopard 10.6.7.  Any help would be appreciated.

    For anyone else with this problem (for those who WANT to use Image Capture from Preview)
    The EPSON ICA drive needs to be deleted.
    The ICA driver can be removed by following steps:
    1. Disconnect the scanner
    2. Open following path in Finder
    /Library/Image Capture/Devices/from there (called Epson Scanner.app)
    3. Delete this file.
    4. Plug in your scanner.
    5. Try to scan an image. (after this step it worked for me)
    Others have had to:
    3. Delete this file
    4. Reinstall the old ICA driver for the Epson scanner.
    5. Plug in your scanner.
    6. Try to scan an image.
    And still others have had to:
    3. Delete this file
    4. Reinstall the new ICA driver (listed above) for the Epson scanner.
    5. Plug in your scanner.
    6. Try to scan an image.
    Sorry all. It has been a long day of troubleshooting and trying different things out.
    Good luck. Drop me a line if you want to compare notes.

  • Scanner reported an error

    In Preview all of a sudden the scanner is not working.
    It works, very very slowly, in Image capture and the direct print scanner software.
    I have searched the internet and found no answers to this issue
    I have a Canon MX860 and I have downloaded the latest drivers from Apple again and reinstalled them.
    Thanks

  • Scanner reported an error An error occurred while communicating with the scanner.

    I have deleted the printer and several printer files/libraries, restarted, and reinstalled the latest driver. No change in behavior.

    Hi,Can you successfully copy by using the copy black / color button on the printer itself? Please let me know the results, if you are not able to copy there is no need ot follow any of the steps below. If you do able to copy, may  you use an iMac? if so  ensure the printer's USB directly connected to the back of your Mac and not through the keyboard ports As well ensure it is directly connected with no USB hubs, etc.. How long the cable is?Ensure it is not longer than 2 meters away, as well try plugging it to a different USB port on your Mac. If there is no change I suggest trying a different USB cable, may you see any difference then?

  • Officejet 8600 Plus "scanner reported error" Mac scanning

    I recently purchased the Officejet 8600 Plus and have run into problems scanning. When scanning using the ADF, I frequently get a message saying, "Scanner reported an error. The scan was not completed because the operation was cancelled while scanning was in progress." The only way to escape from this situation is to turn off the OJ, power it back on, and then try scanning again. I haven't seen the issue using the flatbed, but I've used the ADF far more than the flatbed. This happens both when connected via wifi and USB, so it's not a networking problem. I have tried scanning via Apple's Image Capture as well as HP Scan and I get the error using both. I have all the latest software and firmware for both the Officejet and my Mac. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the HP software, to no avail. This situation is tremendously frustrating as one of the main reasons I purchased this product was the wifi scanning feature. Without a solution to this problem I will consider this product to be defective and will return it. So, any suggestions as to how to alleviate the problem? Thanks. System info: Macbook Pro 17" (early 2011)OS X 10.8.5

     I have an HP MF127fw connected to Mac computers and am experiencing exactly the same problem. Scans from the ADF always fail with that same "scan canceled" message. Preview, Image Capture, or Scan from Print & Scan all receive the same error. USB or WiFi connections make no difference. What is wrong with the HP connection? Here it is 2015 and there have been over 200 viewers of the original posting regarding the inability to scan. Hasn't anyone found a way to overcome this problem?

  • Canon Pixma MX982 & Yosemite 10.10.1

    I upgraded to OS X Yosemite. Now the Scanner function for my Canon Pixma MX892 does not work anymore.
    Downloaded drivers from Canon's website, but still not functioning.
    Error message I get states: "An error occurred while communicating with the scanner."
    I use the MX892 wireless.
    Someone have a solution?

    I don't have this model to test my theory, but you can install the MP500 scanner driver for 10.7 on the 10.8 Mac. The driver is not digitally signed so you will need to Control-click on the installer and select Open from the pop-up menu. Then select Open from the next window to continue with the installation.
    With the driver installed you will then need an application. You could try MP Navigator v2.0.7, which is also not signed so you will need the same workaround to install it.
    With the scanner driver and MP Navigator installed you should be able to scan via a direct USB connection to the Mac.

  • HP Scan (Officejet Pro 8600) reports an error

    I'm having several problems with scanning. I am using HP Scan Version 4.4.1 (21) on a MacBook Pro running Mavericks - 10.9.1. This is installed as part of the v12.34.37 Mac OS Driver/Application Suite for Mavericks.
    1. Scanner reported an error (An error occurred during scanning.)
    This occurs having selected 'Scan' from the HP Scan Menu, I then select Type, but only have the 'Automatic' option available to me.
    2. I no longer have access to change settings on the Scanner Presets Menu. I can't select any of the options (Source, Orientation, Mode, Resolution, Crop to) and I also seem to have lost the 'manual' double-sided option (which alongside the lack of twain driver was a shocking omission from this model, and an enormous dissappointment).
    See the image below: -
    3. Scan to computer (scanning to PDF or JPG)
    Having selected a computer from the list, the scanner is unsuccessful. The error message is: -
    Scan Unsuccessful
    The HP Scan dialogue briefly appears on screen and displays the message 'Preparing to Scan'.
    The scan could not be completed due to one or more of the following issues:
    - Connection to the computer is lost
    - The scan application on the computer is currently in use
    - OCR application is not installed on the computer
    See the computer monitor for details (there is no information on screen).
    I can scan from the webscan applicaiton, and eprint is configured correctly if that has any bearing on the response!
    I hope that this is enough information to get the problem diagnosed/solved, but if not, please let me know what else you need!
    Thanks!!

    Hi,
    I've got around to runing the tests you recommended.
    The power cycle did not work.
    I then ran the troubleshooting from the recommended link for Mavericks which is what I am running.
    Solution one: There are no other users using the scanner, just one connection from my computer.
    Solution two: Scan to computer checked, and printer sharing switched on. Still no scan.
    Solution three: Repair Disk. This resulted in the following: -

    2014-03-02 15:45:51 +0000:
     This did not solve the problem.
    Solution four: Uninstall and reinstall the software. The scan to computer feature is still not working.
    I am still without a working scanning feature. I may look at returning the printer and exchanging it for a different make or model - this is harder than it should be.

  • I have a Canon Pixma MP500 scanner printer, is there a driver that can be loaded that is compatible with OSX v10.9.4?

    I have a Canon Pixma MP500 scanner printer, is there a driver that can be loaded that is compatible with OSX v10.9.4?

    Thanks, PAHU, for providing the Australian site for the Canon driver.  I have an MP500 and it still seemed to print fine after I downloaded Yosemite.  However, as others have reported, the MP Navigator no longer performed normally in scanning. The "Save As" keys didn't align and therefore didn't work but one could still scan using an alternative method ("Scan with scanner driver" button).
    In any case, my hard drive subsequently failed on this 2010 27" iMac and when it was replaced the tech installed Yosemite 10.10.1.  Just tried printing this evening and it wouldn't.  Advised I needed undefined "software." Got various error messages.  Went to Google and read this and downloaded that to no avail.  Tried the Gutenprint driver but it too didn't work. Latest error was "stopping job because the scheduler could not execute a filter."  Had no clue what that meant!  System info listing for the printer (under About this Mac, System Info) lacked any reference to permissions or a printer utility version (but I didn't notice or know significance of omissions).  Finally I downloaded from the Australian site, just the print driver 10.51.2.  The printer then printed!!!  (The MP Navigator scanner remains flawed but works by clicking "Scan with scanner driver" rather than the normal way.)  I'm holding my breath that things will continue to work.
    Thanks again, PAHU, for your help, and Greg and Pam and Andy too!

  • Canon Pixma MP270 - Installation of a printer/scanner

    I'd like to introduce a way how I've succeeded in installing printer/scanner Canon Pixma MP270.
    First download Debian package from http://software.canon-europe.com/softwa … asp?model= (source codes package didn't work for me) to some temporary directory. Then execute as root:
    # pacman -S cups libtiff libpng12 deb2targz
    # ln -s /usr/lib/libtiff.so /usr/lib/libtiff.so.4
    # tar xf MP270_debian_driver_pack.tar
    # tar xzf cnijfilter-mp270series-3.20-1-i386-deb.tar.gz
    # cd cnijfilter-mp270series-3.20-1-i386-deb/packages/
    # deb2targz *
    # tar xzf cnijfilter-common_3.20-1_i386.tar.gz
    # tar xzf cnijfilter-mp270series_3.20-1_i386.tar.gz
    # cp -r usr /
    # /etc/rc.d/cups start
    It isn't very Arch way, but it worked for me just this way. Then add your printer in the CUPS administration page http://localhost:631/ by these steps:
    Administration > Add Printer > login as root > Canon MP270 series (Canon MP270 series) > you can rename it > Canon MP270 series Ver.3.20 (en) > Query Printer for Default Options
    For starting CUPS (which you need to print) at every boot add to /etc/rc.conf:
    DAEMONS=(... cups ...)
    If you're having some problems (for example jobs may appear as completed, but printer does nothing), you should change one line in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf:
    LogLevel debug
    and watch for errors with this command (try to print after calling this):
    $ tail -f /var/log/cups/error_log
    Installing MP270 as scanner is easier - run:
    $ yaourt -S scangearmp-mp270
    $ scangearmp
    You can create menu item /usr/share/applications/scangearmp.desktop:
    [Desktop Entry]
    Name=ScanGear
    Comment=Skenuje obrázky, noviny a rentgeny
    Exec=scangearmp
    Type=Application
    Categories=Graphics
    Icon=/usr/share/icons/homer_brain.jpg

    Glad it helped someone. Here is another tip:
    After the color toner dries or goes empty and you feel like you don't need a new one, don't remove it! The printer is stupid and won't print without it. Instead install GNOME Print manager (package system-config-printer-gnome), run it (system-config-printer) and then it goes like: MP270 > Properties > Job Options > in Advanced (at the bottom) type CNGrayscale and add it > set it to TRUE. These steps lead to making the printer print just by the black toner, otherwise gray color isn't guaranteed to be printed and non-black colors won't be printed at all.
    Thanks to Harbhag Singh Sohal and his original guideline - http://harbhag.wordpress.com/2010/07/03 … on-ubuntu/.

  • Canon Pixma displays "A communication error has occurred"

    I have a Macbook Pro running 10.6.8 and a Canon Pixma MG 5220. Both are connected to a Linksys E1000 wireless router. I have had a lot of problems getting this printer to connect wirelessly with my MB. I have searched the internet for answers tirelessly and tried the suggestions that I found; however, nothing has seemed to remedy the problem.
    I have set up the printer according to it's directions step-by-step. Using my CiscoConnect application, I added the printer to my network. I have entered in the network name and password into the printer and it tells me that it is connected. I used the CD that came with the printer to install the necessary drivers and add the printer. I have gone into my System Preferences and added the printer that way. Any time I try to print, the error message "A communication error has occurred" comes up in my printer queue. I have the printer added with the USB connection just fine, but it is irritating to have to get up and connect my laptop when this is a wireless printer. Once I have the USB printer added, I cannot add the printer wirelessly. All I see is "Bonjour Scanner." I have checked the signal strength, and it is fine. I have used the Network Utility to ping the IP address and it is fine as well. What is going on with my printer????

  • How can I repair Canon Pixma MP550 Error B200?

    How can I repair a Canon Pixma MP550 error 200?

    Hi dlp1962uva,
    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
    I understand you are trying to install your Canon printer after replacing your hard drive on your MacBook Pro. It sounds like you have done some great troubleshooting by trying to install the drivers. I did some research on your printer, the Canon PIXMA iP6000D and it appears that this printer software is no longer available through software update.
    OS X: Printer and scanner software available for download
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3669
    Additional Information
    Printer software no longer available through Software Update
    The third-party vendor no longer provides software for the following models to download and install through Software Update. Contact the vendor or visit their website for further assistance.
    The The Additional Information section where I found this information is at the very bottom of this article. This printer specifically is listed as a printer that is no longer supported by software update is the list under Additional Information. I would suggest contacting Canon to see if the printer drivers are still available through them.
    I hope this helps,
