Scanning with HP

Is there an HP scan utility / download that I am missing? Perhaps something else?
1) I installed OS X 10.6.4 via installation disk.
2) When I installed it, I chose NOT to install the printer drivers and NOT to install printer drivers for printers close to me. At the time of install I did not have a printer connected to the machine.
3) After OS X 10.6.4 install, still with no printer attached, I did the Software Update to OS X 10.6.5.
4) Then I attached my HP Deskjet F4400 series All-In-One to the MBP via USB.
5) Via Software Update, I installed The HP Driver Version is 2.3.1 (latest via Mac Software Update). Apple states: HP Deskjet F4400 series: 2.3.1 is able to Print and Scan (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#HP).
6) I am able to print and can scan using Mac's Print & Fax, and can scan via Mac's Print & Fax, Image Capture, and Preview.
7) So, what is the problem?
The scan feature, using Mac's Print & Fax, Image Capture, and Preview is rather "cumbersome" (see below) to configure to get a scan and I am wondering if this is a) just the nature of the OS X 10.6.5 scan, b) just the nature of the HP Deskjet F4400 series, c) just the nature of the driver, d) some combination of a, b c, or something I am not considering.
To explain the idea of "cumbersome" I will describe a common scan task that I would like to accomplish:
1) Load the document on the flatbed scanner (correctly aligned on the flatbed) - in this example I am trying to scan my AppleCare Protection Plan Certificate. I think it is a good example since it is on 8.5 x 11 paper, it has title case, letter format, with name, address, part number, a bar code, a table, and text, url, etc.
2) From System Preferences, open Print & Fax, the HP Deskjet F4400 is listed, choose the Scan button, click Open Scanner. This takes me to the same scan window that I could also get to if using Image Capture, and Preview. The scanner 'warms up" and displays the AppleCare Protection Plan Certificate that I would like to scan (I am on the details page).
3) This is where it is cumbersome. Now, despite altering the "Kind", "Resolution", or "Detect Separate Items" the scan will automatically pick out the table in the document and the size will auto-adjust to 6.75 x 0.55 inches (the size of the table that is automatically selected - but I don't want to scan the table, I want to scan the entire document).
4) The only way I have found to capture / scan the entire document is to:
a) Insert 8.5 x 11.0 in the size boxes (on the details page). This has the effect of selecting more of the document, but the document is cropped at the bottom - it is not selecting the entire 11.0" of the 8.5 x 11.0 of the actual document. If I attempt to put in 12 to replace the 11 (in hopes of capturing the entire document), then I get the message drop-down "The value ”12” is too big (Maximum value is 11.69333)." I discard the change and it is now back at 11.0.
b) However, when I drag the bottom of the selected cropped image to the bottom of the document, the 11.0 now changes to 12.57 in the size box (- recall I could not just type anything greeter than 11.69333 as mentioned in the previous step - but now with the selection, it goes to the 12.57 - that just does not seem right).
c) Now, I can click Scan and the image / document will get scanned (in this example - to ScanTest01.pdf in Documents).
If I try to manipulate the above method in any other way (and I have tried many, many different approaches, toying around with the different options on the details page) then I will either get several scans (it will scan each "Detect Separate Items" and scan it to its own pdf - i.e. a pdf with just the table and a pdf with table and text) or a cropped scan. In the case of getting several scans, I really don't think I should be burdened with the "overhead" of going into Documents and deciding which one it is that I actually want and then deleting the others.
In my opinion, it does not seem like I should have to tweak the scan settings so much just to get a "simple" document scan of a 8.5 x 11.0 document. I might be more appeased if I could set the size or other scan settings somewhere (i.e. if I need to keep it at 8.5 x 12.57 - select the entire page - something), but I have not been able to do that. I need to go through the entire - choose 8.5 x 11.0, drag the 11 to 12.57, scan - not ideal for one document - terrible if many documents need to be scanned.
I noticed in other posts that some people refer to an HP Printer folder or an HP Scan utility. Apparently, I do not have one. I am wondering if I might get one if I download the entire HP Printer Drivers v.2.5.2 for Mac OS X v10.6 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907) and if this would "fix" the issues I am having. Normally, I would just give it a try, but really don't want to install a bunch of of drivers that I may not need, or may inadvertently add to the confusion of the issue at hand (that driver package contains the HP Driver Version is 2.3.1 that I have installed)
I have also reset my printing system, emptied cache files, and re-added the printer / scanner, deleted it, added it, etc any number of times, with each trial of the scan, but does not seem to change anything as related above.
I have been to the HP site, "How to Scan in Mac OS X 10.6 without Using HP Software" (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01910186&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us &product=3837411#N202), which basically tells one to use the Print & Fax method.
I have also read the HP Support document (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&task Id=115&prodSeriesId=3742084&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=3742084&objectID=c0184 6935) which clearly states:
Scanning
New with Snow Leopard, the Scanning interface to these HP Inkjet All-in-One devices is now built into Snow Leopard and supported with the Apple Image Capture application. There are three ways to perform scanning from your HP All-in-One:
* Preview program
* Image Capture program
* System Preferences > Print & Fax
and
HP Utility
The latest HP Utility is included in Mac OS X 10.6.
So it seems like I should be fully setup for scanning - but if that is the case, then the scanning is not really ideal.
Does anyone have any feedback on if this is all working as it is supposed to and I should expect it to be "cumbersome" or if there is something that I mentioned or am totally missing that I need to do or tweak to get past the "cumbersome" aspect of the process? Does anyone have better results with another printer? Thanks for any feedback.
* Maybe in another post, but also related, I eventually got the ABBYY FineReader Express Edition for Mac. I was hoping this install (I need the searchable / have selectable text anyway) - installed after the above issues (which still remains) might bypass the cumbersome aspect. ABBYY FineReader will take the scanned files (pdfs) and make them searchable / have selectable text. However, it currently will not find my HP Deskjet F4400 as a source to scan from, so have to select the file after it is scanned from the above method. So far very pleased without their product, I have a support tick in with them to see what might be the case with that issue.

Thanks Dale,
I did review your post previously (did not mention it in the above manifesto ) but did not try it because when going through the process via the HP Support & Drivers site (http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html), the only download available for the HP Deskjet F4400 was the "HP Deskjet Full Feature Software and Drivers - Mac OS X v10.4, v10.5, and v10.6", which, at the time, seemed a bit much just to get the HP Deskjet F4400 scanning to work well on OS X 10.6.5 and HP also says not to use it (see below).
But now, thought it might be worth a try and did the following (first on a bootable clone):
1) Reset the printing system
2) Deleted the files under printers folder
3) Deleted the hp plist file under preferences
4) Downloaded and installed the "HP Deskjet Full Feature Software and Drivers - Mac OS X v10.4, v10.5, and v10.6" from the hp site
5) Added back the printer
6) At this point, if I went to Print & Fax, and tried to open the scanner, it would show "Trying to open scanner session" and then "Failed to open a session on this device"
7) Did Software Update, which offered up the HP 2.5.2 drivers for the device, and installed these
8) Then everything "worked"
-- The Print & Fax scan still operates as above (rather poorly)
-- The HP Scan works well (found under the newly installed HP folder under apps)
-- The HP Deskjet F4400 shows up in the ABBYY FineReader (seems to offer better OCR than the IRIS software that HP uses)
Yea! - So, apparently if you throw "everything" into the mix, it seems to work. It just seems odd that HP would state (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&task Id=115&prodSeriesId=3742084&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=3742084&objectID=c0184 6935):

And then give a big warning that says:
Important: Please do not reinstall software from original HP Photosmart, Officejet, Deskjet CDs, or HP web downloads from previous Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4, or 10.5. Older software is not compatible with Snow Leopard. The latest Snow Leopard compatible software is included in Mac OS X 10.6, and you will experience the best performance and functionality if you use the latest HP software.
Oddly enough, HP does have a link on the above page to get the the HP Scan application (despite their warning), but it resolves to a "We're very sorry! The page you requested can not be found."
Well they should be sorry, even though things got to working, I went ahead and ordered a Canon PIXMA MX870 Wireless Office All-in-One Printer (sure it will have its own set of frustrations, just that after I got to looking at it, seamed nice and good time for new printer - will still keep the HP around)
Now only if Airport Base Station would allow the ability to scan .

  • I can no longer print PDF files that were scanned with the very same MX479 on Windows XP, SP3

I can no longer print PDF files that were scanned with the very same MX479 All-in-One.
I have an (obsolete) Windows XP, SP3 computer.  Obviously, no updates from Microsoft
have occurred that might have impacted my Canon Pixma MX479.
When I attempt to send 1 or more pages from a PDF file to the printer, I don't even get the
Canon PIXMA popup that would allow me to cancel the print job.
Yet the Print Queue icon appears in the lower right corner of my monitor.
If I view the Print Queue, the print queue shows "spooling" and does nothing more.
If I attempt to CANCEL the print job in the Print Queue, it simply changes to "deleting -
    spooling".
I cannot cancel the print job that shows NOT RESPONDING via Task Manager, either.
In fact, the only way the Print Queue icon disappears is if I totally reboot my computer!
"Luckily", I can still print e-mails, Word documents, and even my downloaded PDF of my
    bank statement.
So, I was thinking that it was *only* PIXMA'S OWN SCANNED PDFS that could not be
printed ON THE SAME PIXMA 479.
However, I have since realized that I also cannot print USPS Signature Proof of Delivery
PDFs that I received from USPS via e-mail.
So why can I print *some* PDF files, but not *all* PDF files, like I previously could do?
THESE SCANS ARE OF LEGAL DOCUMENTS, SO I WILL LIKELY HAVE TO E-MAIL
THE REQUISITE, PREVIOUSLY SCANNED PDFS TO FEDEX TO PAY FOR *THEM*
    TO PRINT THEM.
NOTE: I *have* tried turning the PIXMA off, unplugging it, rebooting the computer, plugging
the PIXM in and restarting the PIXMA - still no ability to print PIXMA-scanned PDFs.
And, I find it very strange that e-mails, Word documents, and some other PDFs print with
no problem "around" "NOT RESPONDING" PIXMA print jobs.
I have owned Canon printers for years, including the MX420, and the MX340.

There may be some security issues related to the USPS PDFs.

I can't help with the scan/print problem. You seem to have done everything I would try.
I don't know if maybe using a registry cleaner would help.

  • Error: Could not continue scan with nolock due to data movement, DBCC proccache will clear the probelm

    SQL Server: 2008 R2 SP2
Before describing my problem, I have gone via the forum, there is no view or functions inside my stored procedure
When running a particular stored procedure inside crystal report, the error " Could not continue scan with nolock due to data movement" comes once every few weeks. After I clear the query cache plan, it works again for few weeks and the problem
comes again. During these few weeks, there is no restart or query plan clearing.
If I run the stored procedure inside SSMS, where the SQL statement is copied and pasted from SQL profiler during crystal report run, there is no error.
I discovered running in SSMS and crystal report generate 2 different query plans even I copied the SQL from SQL profiler, I have actually saved the query plans. Unfortunately, this forum does not accept attachments, or otherwise I will post my query plans
    here.
There is one thing I notice about the query plan is during nested loop operation, there is a warning "no join predicate". I don't use any views or UDF in the statement, nor did I use pre-1992 ANSI join syntax. However, I did use table variables.
My guess is whether this will cause " Could not continue scan with nolock due to data movement", after I clear the cache, I run crystal report again, and I look at the plan again, the "nested loop no join predicate" warning is gone.
Running this stored procedure took 1 second maximum, even when this error is popping up, it pop up within 1 second.
    DBCC checkdb has been run
The same stored procedure running by crystal report in a SQL 2008 (non r2) live environment has no problems, so I am thinking this is R2 specific problems.
The "nested loop no join predicate" error SQL statment is below, no views, no udf, but table variables
    INSERT @ChequeAccount
    SELECT        PS.PaySummaryID, PS.EmployeeID, PS.CostCentreID,
                (PS.GrossPay    + PS.LumpSumA + PS.LumpSumB    + PS.LumpSumD+ PS.LumpSumE+ PS.ETP+ PS.PaymentsAfterTax    - PS.DeductionsAfterTax
     - PS.Tax- PS.ETPTax    + PS.TaxRebate) * -1 AS Amount,
                CGLM.GLAccountID
    FROM Pay_Summary PS JOIN Input_Sheet ISH ON PS.InputSheetID = ISH.InputSheetID  AND  ISH.PayrollID = @binPayrollID
AND PS.PaySummaryID NOT IN (SELECT PaySummaryID FROM @ChequeAccount)
    JOIN Payroll P ON P.PayrollID = ISH.PayrollID AND P.EmployerID = @binEmployerID
JOIN CustomGLFixMapping CGLM ON CGLM.EmployerID = P.EmployerID AND CustomGLFixMappingNameID = 1 AND CGLM.CostCentreID IS NULL

The error Could not continue scan with nolock due to data movement can occur when you use the NOLOCK table hint, or use the command SET TRANSACTION ISOLATION LEVEL READ UNCOMMITTED. That is, so-called dirty reads. The error is not related to the
query plan per se, but when scanning a table, the storage engine will use an IAM scan rather than following the clustered index. If there is simultaneous activity, the storage engine may detect this and abort the operation to avoid returning incorrect data.
Or it may not detect it, and return uncommitted data or fail to return committed data.
All of these effects are transitory and they will not show up when you are alone on the system, only when there is concurrent activity in one or more of the tables in the query.
Using dirty reads is a risky business for the reasons explained above, and it takes careful analysis to understand whether you can live with the errors you can get from a particular query. The error about data movement can be handled: trap the error and
resubmit the query. But what about spurious incorrect results?
If you believe locking to be a problem, you should consider setting the database to READ_COMMITTED_SNAPSHOT
and take out all use of READ UNCOMMITTED/NOLOCK. When the database is in READ_COMMITTED_SNAPSHOT, readers read from the snapshot and only see committed data without blocking writers. This has some other effects like requiring a bigger tempdb,
and there is a risk for other types of concurrency errors, but they tend to be smaller risks.
I discovered running in SSMS and crystal report generate 2 different query plans even I copied the SQL from SQL profiler,
This is because SSMS by default runs with SET ARITHABORT ON. I discuss this in more detail in this article on my web site:
    http://www.sommarskog.se/query-plan-mysteries.html
However, as I said, this problem is not related to the query plan as such, although some query plans are more susceptible to this error than others. (All plans are suscpeitble to produce incorrect results).

  • Cannot scan with HP LaserJet M1005 MFP

I updated to Snow Leopard 10.6.3 yesterday. Big mistake as I cannot now scan with my HP LaserJet M1005 MFP. I have been unable to find a solution here or via Google. Does anyone know if this is possible? I realize this device has never been "Mac friendly" (one might even say, not compatible.... despite HP's over-generous claims), but I would have thought there would be a new driver for SL by now.
If not, could anyone recommend a non-HP scanner (not MFP) that works well with SL?
    thanks!

    Hi @3Digit ,
I see that you are having issues scanning, there isn't any scanning software in the HP folder. I would like to help you out today.
Open the HP Scan window with one of the following methods:
Double-click the HP Scan icon () for your printer on the Windows desktop.
Click the Windows icon (), click All Programs, click the HP folder, click the name of your printer, and then click HP Scan.
If you are missing the HP Scan software altogether, then the full software didn't install on the computer.
If that is the case, uninstall and reinstall the printer software. Here is the link for the newest drivers. Software & Drivers.
First do these steps, before installing the software, just to make sure it fully installs.
I would disable all the start up programs and temporarily turn off the Antivirus Software and any Real Time Scanning in the Antivirus Software also, to see if that is causing the issue. How to use MSCONFIG . Click on the Startup tab and click Disable all, Then click the Services tab and check Hide All Microsoft Services.
I have provided a document for how to scan. It is for Windows 7, but the steps will also work for Windows Vista.

  • Problems scanning with HP printer and Mavericks

I recently installed the GM version of Mavericks and tried to scan some stuff and it came up with this error "An error has occurred saving the file because it could not be written to. Check the properties for the file to make sure it is not read-only." I tried repairing permissions and reinstalling the scanner software, but to no avail.....I'm not certain if it is because of Mavericks or something unrelated to that...any suggestions?

    Hi burdell1,
As I am sure you know, OS X Mavericks has not yet been released by Apple. Gold Master is only a version of the Mavericks and was released to developers but not yet to the public. The HP software you are using is not compatible with the OS X 10.9, it was designed for the 10.8. This is likely why you are experiencing the issues you are having.
Maybe try scanning with he system preferences rather then the HP Scan software. How to Scan without HP Software.
Method one: Scan from Apple Preview
Method two: Scan from Apple Image Capture
Method three: Scan from Print & Scan
With any luck on of the above options will enable you to start scanning again. Hope the information I have provided is helpful!

When doing a custom scan in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.2, I need to be able to show the Canon DR-4010C native interface so that it will auto-crop when I am scanning small documents such as receipts, etc.  I have another model scanner that does it automatically (a Canon Dr-2510C) but I need that same functionality when I scan with the 4010.  I can see the setting when I configure Adobe to use the scanner's native interface however when I choose "auto detection" on the size (in the scanner's interface) and press scan, Adobe immediately crashes.  Please help!

  • Cannot print or scan with USB printer over wifi from airport express / time capsule wifi

    Hi everybody,
I have recently set up time capsule connected to the router from the telephone company but created a new wifi network for the time machine to better work. Now I have bought an airport express to be able to use my USB printer over the WIFI network. I have to laptops, the printing works fine over the mac book air but not over the macbook pro. On top of that I cannot scan with either of the devices.
I have scanned most of the information out there but this issue seems not to be addressed properly anywhere. Advices given do always repeat itself but no solution worked for me.
Now I have plugged the usb from the printer directly back into mac book pro and the problem seems to persist here too. The message I receive everywhere is this one:
The software for the printer was installed incorrectly.
Would you like it to be repaired?
When I hit the Repair button a notice says 'repairing permissions' but nothing really happens. In the end nothing has been printed.
Resetting the printing systems has not really changed anything either. The problems persist.
This is the screen I get when the printer is directly plugged in through USB:
Result: printer recognised and installed, I cannot print (The software for the printer was installed incorrectly), but I can scan (probably because of the hint ('multifunction')
When I try to install the printer through the network connection (wifi network over time capsule and airport express) I get this image:
Result: printer recognised over bonjour but without multifunction (in other words without scanning), I cannot scan nor print (The software for the printer was installed incorrectly)
As I already mentioned any solution I found online would not work. Now the qustions are:
    1) why can't I print? The drivers seem to be there but somehow broken, and I don't know how to repair it
    2) why can't I scan over wifi? It sould possible that any function that can be performed over cable should also be able to performable over air, right?
I would very much appreciate any kind of help.
    Thank you in advance,
    Cris

    What's up doc?
HP has not provided "network" drivers to allow advanced features when the the All-in-One is connected to the USB port on the Time Capsule.
Therefore, only the printing function is supported when the All-in-One is connected to the Time Capsule's USB port.
If you need advanced features like fax, copy, scan, maintenance etc., you will need to connect over the WiFI network, or connect the All-in-One directly to your computer.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro X, Mac, and Scanning with HP Deskjet Issue!

I am running Adobe Acrobat X Pro on Lion and when I go to scan from PDF, my HP Deskjet 3052 A scanner isn't showing up in the drop down menu.  I also have Acrobat Pro X for Windows on my machine (VMWare) and it works fine, but it won't work with the Mac version.  I have called Adobe and HP and neither have been able to help me.  I bought this program with this feature in mind, and I am sick of having to toggle back to Windows to scan, as it eats up a lot of my processing power.  I have downloaded the SANE and TWAIN drivers (or so I thought I did) with no luck.  I have also un-installed and re-installed the printer and Adobe multiple times, with no luck!  Please help me!

How do I scan with the driver from Apple Software Update?
Depending on your printer and the type of driver update, you might need to scan in a different way than you did before you installed Mountain Lion.
NOTE:Scanning to the computer from the printer control panel is not available when you scan with Preview, Image Capture, or Printer browser methods. You must use HP Scan software to scan from the printer.

  • Using Image Capture to scan with Canon Pixma MX700

I previously had trouble connecting my Canon Pixma MX700 to my MBP, but soon figured out that I needed a new high speed USB 2.0 cable, versus the old one I was trying to use it with. Doh!
So now it prints without any trouble at all, and I know that all its features - printing, scanning, fax, copier, are supposed to be compatible with Leopard.
However, I'm still having issues scanning. I Googled and found a comment somewhere that with this specific model, one has to use Image Capture for the scanning portion, instead of the Canon software.
Great, so that explained the problem I was having trying to figure out how to GET it to communicate at all with the MBP (downloaded the latest scanner driver from Canon with no result).
But it still will not scan with Image Capture. Communication is fine- the image is detected and I can see it perfectly in the Image Capture window, am able to change options, etc. Once I drag and select the image I want to scan and click the scan button, nothing happens. Or more specifically, the button will be click-able and for about two seconds it appears to be working (with the scan button substituted by a cancel button), but then the scan button will pop back up and nothing appears in the folder I specified the image to be saved to.
Now I'm completely stumped. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!!!

With my MacBook running Leopard, I had been able to successfully scan multiple images by pressing the MX7000 scan button and capturing the images with MP Navigator. The MX700 is networked over WiFi. Early on, I learned that it seemed to be more reliable to drive this process using the scan button, rather than trying to initiate the scan from the MP Navigator UI.
However, recently things stopped working, and after the first image was scanned, subsequent scans would fail, with MP Navigator complaining about not being able to connect to the scanner. This sounds similar to the problem described in the original posting.
I went to the Canon USA support site and downloaded /installed the latest versions of the MX700 scan driver (13.9.0) and MP Navigator (1.0.4), both available under the "Drivers and Downloads" section for the MX700 support page (be sure to select "Mac OS X" from the pull-down menu).
    http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDeta ilTabAct&fcategoryid=238&modelid=15651#DownloadDetailAct
The new updates seem to have solved the problem, and I can now scan multiple images one after the other. Again, I always initiate the scan from the button on the MX700, and always capture using MP Navigator, which has the really nice feature for creating and editing multi-page PDFs.

  • HP Photo Smart D5110 not scanning with Mac OS 10.9

Help. I have searched everywhere and still cannot come up with a solution to scan from my Photosmart. Worked fine until I upgraded to Maverick. Thanks!

Hello WelchS, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are looking into your scan options. I would like to try and help.
Due to the age of the printer, there is no HP software for this printer on Mavericks.  You can, however, utilize the Mac in-OS basic print and scan drivers.  I am including a document on Installing and Using the Printer on a Mac that should help resolve this, specifically the section of the document entitled "How do I scan with the driver from Apple Software Update?"
Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Trouble Printing PDF's scanned with Image Capture

OK this is a strange problem.  I have Macbook Pro and a Lexmark E230 laser printer which prints everything out just fine in safari, word, pages, numbers - anything except PDF's that are specifially scanned with the Image Capture application.
I printed four PDF's that were made from different sources, some just assembled JPEGs, one that was text printed from Pages, and another instruction manual randomly downloaded from the internet.  All printed fine.
My wife and I scan a lot for our home business and any PDF that we have scanned using Image Capture prints only the first page, then hangs, and then the rest of the document does not print.  If I try to print the second or other pages manually, I get an error printed on the page saying :
    ERROR: limitcheck
    OFFENDING COMMAND: image
    STACK:
    And the image partially prints.
I am aware of all driver issues, have tried using old drivers, completely reset the print system using the OPTION and ( - ) key in the printer system prefs.  I have also used the most up to date drivers, nothing seems to change this.  I am also aware of a printers limitations as far as using images or PDFs with a lot of memory.
The thing that makes me confused is that this all seemed to work perfectly before (in Lion) and even during the inital stages of Mountain Lion.  At some point (this is on my wife's computer), I'm not sure when the issues started exactly, I was unable to print PDFs scanned with Image Capture properly.
This used to work, now it doesn't.  Printer hasn't changed, types of documents haven't changed.  Any ideas?
    Thanks so much,
    Jim

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, bubblebanium!
I have experienced your problem on several occasions and found the culprit to be a corrupt font. Try selecting everything in the document and changing it to a font that you are certain prints. If the problem persists, try copying everything and paste it into a new document. If your document is several pages, try printing one page to hone in on the problem.
If the problem still persists, does your document have bullet items? If yes, and the bulleted items were created with the automatic bullet feature, then the problem may be the default font used for that feature (most likely the Symbol font).
To change to a different font, go to the Format menu, select Bullets and Numbering. Click on the style of bullets your document uses and then click the Customize button. In the next window, click on the shape of bullet your document uses and then click the Font button below. A Font window appears in which you can then select a different font. Afterwards, if the document prints, then the default font is probably corrupt and you may want to replace it with a good copy.
    Hope this helps.

  • Duplex Scanning with HP7520 on MAC OS X 10.10

Is there a way to scan both sides of a document into a single file?  With the prior operating system, this would work if I scanned one side of the document and then fed the second side and used the same document name and checked "Combine into a single document" as a PDF.
With the new operating system, this same process will can into two separate documents.
    I appreciate any suggestions  Thanks!

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @Schulte
You should be able to still scan a multiple page document as one file, on Yosemite as well. You will need to have the Full Feature software installed however. Below is some help!
Here is the download to install the full software: HP Photosmart 7520 e-All-in-One Printer Full Feature Software and Drivers
Here are the instructions on how to scan a multi-page page document into a single file:
Scanning with the Full Feature HP Software in OS X v10.10 Yosemite
You should now be able to do a multiple page scan!
