SCCM 2007 Inventory of Printer, Scanner, E-Signature Pads, etc

Okay, I cannot seem to find any info on this anywhere and if it does exist it is ridiculously ambiguous or vague.
PLEASE tell me how can I go about inventorying printers, scanners and other devices such as e-signature pads via SCCM 2007?
I work in a healthcare environment and I NEED to get this information to the Asset Management Office.
I know that I can extend the SMS_DEF.mof file Win32_Printer class, which I will do, but how do I go about doing that for scanners and other devices like e-signature pads?
Would I use a NOIDMIF file? If so, what is the best tool to create one (MIFGEN)? After the creation of the MIF do I need to then save the ismif32.dll and ismifcom.dll files in their proper places for the MIF to be inventoried or are these two files
only used in conjunction with package deployments (software advertisements) for successful installs? Do I then create a script to keep creating the MIF?
Why is this soooooooo ridiculously convoluted when it shouldnt be?
I need help please
Thank you

The only classes I found that may be useful are win32_pnpentity, and\or win32_usbdevice. I'm leaning toward just using the RegKey to MOF tool and see if a unique location within the Registry can be identified for the devices and then add the data to SMS_DEF.mof
and Configuration.mof. I guess what I am trying to find out from this forum is can devices be identified on a computer system by manufacturer, model, etc. even if a generic driver is installed? Isn't the identity of the hardware device dependent on the driver
that's installed for the device, or can a device be identified just by being plugged in, somehow? Let's make this simple. If you were tasked by your employer to find out what computers in your organization had the following devices installed, how would you
go about doing it? By the way, assume all devices are USB. Also, I know I can use the Win32_Printer class and I already have that enabled in SMS_DEF.mof, but I'm just throwing in the printer below for good measure. The hypothetical devices are: Printer, Scanner,
and SigPad. As always, thanks for your help, I much appreciate it.

  • Query to list computers with a specific network printer using sccm 2007

    Hi to all,
I really need help to  create a report taht lists  all the computers which have a network printer "MAXXX" installed.I would like to do it using sccm 2007.
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Regards,
    Stephane.

CM07 does not collect this information, Printers are a user setting and therefore you will need to create a script to inventory the printer for each user then you can have CM07 collect & report on them.

  • HT3669 HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Version 3.2.1 does not work on iMac 20-inch, Mid 2007. Only recognizes scanner not USB printer.

HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Version 3.2.1 does not work on iMac 20-inch, Mid 2007. Only recognizes scanner not USB printer.
I would like to print via the USB connection instead of wireless (the wireless does work, and the scanner works via USB).
I tried connecting the printer directly (via USB) to my MacBook Pro laptop and it worked just fine.
How can I make this printer work on my iMac?
I spent 4 hours on the phone with HP and we did every combination of installation of drivers ad nausum and their bottom line is that it is a Mac problem.
Any help would be appreciated. Will be sending this printer back to Amazon if I can't make it work on the USB.
I am open to questions or suggestions
    Thanks,
    Chet

After 4 hours on the phone with HP and another hour with Apple (Mavericks support) no real solution other than check everything (removed everything from Login Items, removed all HP software anywhere in the system reboot, reinstall printer) then when nothing worked for the 4500, did an OS Reinstall (boot with CMD+R).
The Mavericks support group did open an incident (# 542875311) and I will update it when I figure out how to find it on the system.
My feel is that the base problem is that somewhere between the HP-Inkjet-SW-OSX-Mavericks_v12.34.49-2 package and the Apple HP Printer software in the Library (version 2.16.1) the app for printing via the USP Port just does not get installed for the mid 2007 20 inch iMac. The scanner is recognized on the USB Port and the Printer works fine on Wi-Fi. I have too many devices to burden my home network with anothe device. Also, every time I put any HP Printer on Wi-Fi, my router (Netgear N600 WNDR3400 running 12 to 20 devices depending on who is home) gets wonky (but that's anothe story...).
Additionally, when I attach the HP Envy 4500 to my MacBook Pro (2010) it works perfect - print and scan via the USB prot and both functions show in the System Preferences - Printers and Scanners just as expected and just as the 3050 does.

    Hello,
i have to make inventory with SCCM 2007.My boss asked me to collect important information (from hardwares and softwares) for both .The problem is that he didn't specify me whcih informations to collect. He just told me to do it seems like  i'm
the  the workstation infrastructure manager and asked myself which crucial informations i have to collect. For information,we have both laptops and desktops in our infrastructure. And we have two types of OS for our workstation:Windows XP and windows 7.
I really need help to know which crucial information do i have to collect.
Thank you in advance yor all your propositions.

You can refer this link for inventory : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb693889.aspx
Later you can decide on the type of inventory.

  • Hardware inventory for windows 8.1 SCCM 2007

I have SCCM 2007  primary site with SP2/R3 installed.
I have also installed KB for windows 8 and for windows 8.1
I only stood up two clients with windows 8.1. For one reason or another each time I try to get hardware inventory I get the following.
failed to retrieve the requested  schedule 80041002
    failed to send schedule 80041002.
The MP has received the software inventory and does process it  according to MP_SINv but Hardware fails.
I have reset the wmi repository recreated guid keys  standard wmi practices.  One of the bigger issues is the fact that wmidiag is not supported by windows 8.1 has any one ran into this issue?

It's actually silly I forgot to update my MOF update collection to include 2207 sccm client version. After the collection update and sms_def.mof and configuration.mof files got copied to user's computer hardware inventory ran as scheduled

I went to run a query in SQL Management Studio the other day and realized that the

I'm not really sure what to look at next and am hoping someone else has experienced this issue before.
I have looked at other customers running SCCM 2007 and compared the Configuration.mof and SMS_def.mof files, which look pretty much the same.
    Thanks in advanced.

Are they running on virtual pc or virtual server? Notice that I said virtual pc and virtual server, not Hyper-v. In CM12 this is fix and will show the physical server when running on Hyper-v.

  • SCCM 2007 client registration not working.

    Hi guys,
i'm in the following situation. Existing SCCM 2007 server at a customers environment. Site is running in Mixed mode. Windows XP clients connected by VPN to the customers infrastructure. The only allowed communication is Port 3333 (http) and Port
3334 (https) from Windows XP to the SCCM Server for Client -> Server Communication. The client is not in the domain, has no DNS and no WINS available. Customer would like to install the SCCM Agent to these computers for hardware inventory purposes.
    What I did:
Changed the SCCM Client Communication Port from 80 to 3333 (HTTP)
Changed Site Mode Settings to "Automatically approve all computers" (I know it is not recommended but for first testing, this is ok for us.
Added a host file entry on the Windows XP client to point sccm01.mydomain.local to the appropriate IP Adress of the SCCM Server.
Manually installed the SCCM client on the Windows XP client by using the following command
    -> ccmsetup.exe CCMHTTPPORT=3333 CCMHTTPSPORT=3334 SMSMP=sccm01.mydomain.local SMSSLP=sccm01.mydomain.local SMSSITECODE=TST
I see that the client gets installed and shows the correct Site Code etc. but it never appears on the SCCM Server. The ClientIDManagerStartup.log shows that the registration fails:

  • SCCM 2007 and SED (Self encrypting HDD) - How do I report on them?

Currently we are moving to a new Encryption software and we have a large amount of workstations with SED hdd - this works brilliant as the encryption time with supported software was brought down from 6 hours to less than 5 min.
My question is how do I distinguish between normal HDD and SED Drives in my environment (the fleet of 4000+ workstations)and report on them in SCCM.
I am getting allot of different topics on to extend my mof files (which voids our support contract) and that its not recommended.
and based on the outcome of my MS how-to call I am not sure that anybody thought of this as there recommendation is to see what software is installed in Programs and Features and report using software reporting, the thing is that its not a type of software
installed that will give you the functionality but the physical HDD type...
Please if someone can provide me with some detail or just give me a nudge in the right direction.
    Thank you.

Assuming that the SED has a unique PnP ID (or group of PnP IDs if it's a family of products) in Device Manager, you could scan for their existence that way (using a default SCCM 2007 report to boot).  Since the hardware is unique, and I'm assuming
you are doing Hardware Inventory, this is how I'd try and spot them.

  • SCCM 2007 Migration to SCCM 2012

    Hello,
I read http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/58ba35e5-d84e-4741-8089-624f5269a2ca/sccm-2012-design-consideration-advice?forum=configmanagergeneral&prof=required with the following notes:
Secondary vs. DP is a subjective call based on two factors: client count and available bandwidth. More clients and/or less bandwidths means secondary site, less clients and/or more bandwidth means DP. Both use a server OS so there's really no cost difference, just some added complexity for a secondary site. Without knowing the bandwidth, no way for me to be able to say one way or the other.
As for IBCM, correct, it's no a primary site server, it's simply a site system that typically hosts an MP, DP, and SUP. The App Catalog Website Point is also applicable.
Are you planning on managing legacy mobile devices or Mac OSX? If not, the Enrollment Proxy Point is not needed -- it's not applicable to IBCM anyway to my knowledge.
Also, the FSP must be on a separate site system so that clients can communicate with it via HTTP.
I have for now two sites:
    - 25,000 Desktops on one site
    - 1,500 Servers on the second site
in SCCM 2007 I had three sites: One Parent doing the reporting and two child sites handling the inventory, distribution, etc... (No SUP do far)
I have on each child sites 1 DP.
What should be changed for SCCM 2012?
What is "More Clients" or "Less Clients" ?
    "More Bandwidth" or "Less Bandwidth"?
    Thanks,
    Dom
System Center Operations Manager 2007 / System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2 / Forefront Client Security / Forefront Identity Manager

    Hello Dom,
If you have Two Primary servers you may need to plan for a CAS (Central administration site), in SCCM 2012 when you have more than one primary server you need a CAS to connect them. But remember the CAS does not
process any client data, DPs nor MPs (hardware nor software inventory), and bear in mind that a primary stand-alone can support up to 100,000 clients, and in SCCM 2012 the big idea is to simplify the hierarchy. So if you have a primary site you can manage
a lot of clients, and you can separate them in your case in boundaries, boundaries in 2012 do two things: Site assignment and content lookup, but they only work with boundary groups, in which you set the limits in the boundary, and latter associate it with
    a boundary group.
You can then just have a primary server and remote DPs, and decide how the clients will look for content in the DPs with the boundaries and boundary groups. The bandwidth needs to be really important about sending
packages between sites, or if the boundaries are not configured properly the clients can end up looking for content where it should not.  Also don’t forget about fallback packages and content, because DPs and packages can be set as fallback, so if clients
cannot find in a local DP they will search those packages.
Below a few references that may help you with your migration.
Any more questions, please let me know.

  • FEP Exemptions for SCCM 2007 Server

I configured a policy for my SCCM 2007 site server and used the SCCM Server Template. It came populated with the %programfiles%\Microsoft Configuration Manager\Inboxes\*.box. I found today that my SCCM server was backing up processing hardware inventory
and I looked at the %programfiles%\Microsoft Configuration Manager\Inboxes\Auth\dataldr.box and found over 6000 there. I added that path to my exclusions in the policy but it did not speed up .mif processing. Only when I turned of real time protection did
the backlog clear up. Is there a process that I might exclude that might be getting blocked? Should I post this in the SCCM forum?Orange County District Attorney

This is old post and there have been several changes in SCCM, and Forefront, specially successor for Forefront is System Center Endpoint Protection which integrated into SCCM. You could define filtering for both process and files and it should work, but
you might wait or enforce policy update on clients.
If possible try reproduce the problem in SCEP and check if it reproduce or not?

  • SCCM 2007 AND Managing Laptop Connected with NetMotion (VPN) and Chameleon Cellular Connections

We could use some assistance if anyone is doing any of this.
We have mobile laptops that are used out in the field:
    They have SCCM client
    Netmotion VPN
    Chameleon Celluar Connections
    Two things:
    1) Is there a piece of SCCM 2007 currently that could manage these (we see SCCM Mobile--but that appears as like smart phones, iphones, ipads, etc).  These are toughbooks (panasonic laptops) and they need to utilize several applications) .  We
need to manage these differently than laptops with Direct Access.
    2) We do not want these people receiving SCCM pushes or inventory or WSUS (this is done through our WSUS server) pushes while on cellular network.  When they come back from the field and hit our wireless or connect via network, we would like them to
    receive these types of pushing throughout the night.  Problem:  They set up and configured the laptops to make this cellular Chameleon appear as a fast network and doesn't appear as a device off these laptops.  Several pushes are reg advertisements;
although we are moving to mostly task sequences.  Which most of you know a regular advertisement will allow us to stop on a slow network, but the task sequence advertisement does not have those capabilities.  So we are in a dilema.  Again that
only took care of pushes and not all the other things SCCM related we do not want to happen.
How do others handle remote toughbooks in the field on cell connections where the techs want them to appear as fast connection, yet stop SCCM packages from delivering on them or anything like inventory being done on them.
Techs are investigating a rule on Netmotion that we might put in place, we have also thought if setting up a boundary on SCCM related to these Netmotion machines being as 10.0.0.x being slow, but we are unsure how to stop everything or write a correct rule
to stop anything SCCM related while NOT connected via network or wireless?
Ideas, thoughts, pieces of SCCM 2007 that we have no invesigated, etc?

Yes, I know this is an old post, but I’m trying to clean them up.
Honestly, I would look at CM12 for this. CM12 added a number of features for the exact issue.

  • MOF file migration from SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012

    Hi,
I have an issue while migrating SCCM 2007 MOF (Configuration.mof) to SCCM 2012,Problem is...
In our infrastructure, We have integrated our custom inventory classes with the logon script. Now we are migrating to SCCM 2012.When i migrate the same Custom inventory classes to SCCM 2012,I can able to compile/migrate, However SCCM 2012 views are not in
    sync with SCCM 2007.
Example: If i use SCCM 2007 collection/Query in SCCM 2012 that uses these custom inventory classes, its thrown an error saying that objects in this query are not valid, because of this none of the collections/Queries that uses old inventory classes are not
    working.
I dont want to change anything in the logon script...
Can someone please help me on this. Thanks in advance..

    Hi Garth,
    Thanks for the reply.
As per my understand, there's nothing to do with SMS_DEF.mof and only Configuration.mof can be editable.
When you say Importing sms_def.mof in SCCM 2012,I guess there's is something i missed out.
Below is the both SMS_DEF.mof and Configuration.mof from SCCM 2007, Also please let me know how to import SMS_DEF.mof in SCCM 2012

  • Sccm Agent will not install via push on SCCM 2012 to computers that have sccm 2007 agents

I can not install the sccm 2012 agent on client computers via the push method or selecting the computers in a collection and clicking on install client nothing happens on the clients.
Also another problem is when i install the clients manually on the machines there is no site code and i can not "find site"
in both cases teh machines did have the sccm 2007 agent and were working fine on that.

1.make sure you have created the boundary group first. if you cant push the agent via push method, check the log files.
    2. also make sure that in your environment if you have a firewall then there are port need to be open for agent push.
    3. also if you have installed MacAfee agent on your client machine make sure the policies are not blocking file and print sharing.
    4. also the windows firewall need to open for file and print sharing of you are using push method.
did you try to push the agent via GPO?
IF not try to run the following script in one of the client machine. use this command in the command prompt.
in my case smssitecode is BLL
    MP is the management point.
    ccmsetup.exe SMSSITECODE=BLL /mp:sccmserver.contoso.com /source:\\sccmserver.contoso.com\sms_bll\client
run the above command in the command prompt of one of the client machine which you cant install the agent and see.
