SCCM - Software update roll back

Hi All,
CAn some one share step -by step guide to roll back the deployed software updates.
Regards,

To put it at a high level:
- Find the uninstall string/command-line for an update (not all updates can necessarily be uninstalled though)
- Create an empty package with a single program containing that uninstall string/command-line
- Advertise that program to the desired systems
The above is scriptable so that you really just create a script that you put in a package and program and then advertise that finds the appropriate uninstall command-line for an update and then runs it. I think a few folks have example scripts like
this posted on their websites (like ccmexec.org).
Ultimately though, there's nothing built in for this as Garth pointed out.

  • SCCM Software Updates (and SCUP) vs. Application Management for 3rd Party Application Patching

    Hi,
We're getting ready to tackle the phenomena known as Java patching, and I was wondering if I could get your personal preference; SCCM Software Updates (and SCUP) vs. Application Management for 3rd Party Application Patching?
I probably should give a little background on my environment; It's a university atmosphere, so unless it's policy, you have to ask nicely...can't tell people to do things they don't want to; multiple version of required versions of Java for what ever reason,
which need to be identified, grouped together, and then upgrade as much as possible without breaking their old applications.
I was thinking that Application Management probably made more sense where it is more robust, especially for removing multiple installs of Java on a single system, but Software Updates/SCUP looks like it was built for this type of patching, so I'm a bit confused
why SCCM would have two components which essentially did the same thing.
    Your thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Bill

For Java version management specifically you can already achieve a lot by using the Application Model in CM12.
You can define supersedence between the different versions, just make sure to opt for uninstall of the older version when defining it.

  • How to Disable SCCM Software Updates on Client Workstations

    Hi,
I have enabled Software Updates for all clients, to create a baseline for reporting. The intent was to then disable Software Updates via. SCCM Client Settings, so that our clients could continue receiving updates from Microsoft until we were ready to deploy
    updates to our clients.
After modifying the SCCM Client Settings, the Software Update Cycles/actions removed from the Configuration Manager Client on the workstations, however the local policy on the workstation remained configured (did not revert back to Non-Configured).
and the workstation is still looking to the SCCM for Windows Updates.
Using SCCM, how do I get the workstations back to Microsoft for Windows/Microsoft Updates?
    TIA,
    Bill

    >I've read that you shouldn't mix SCCM and Group Policy for Windows Updates, when you're intending
    to use SCCM.
Correct - if you are using Group Policy to manage the Windows Update settings, ConfigMgr will not be able to manage them.  You're post implied you did not want to manage updates with ConfigMgr.
    > not all of our workstations are on a domain; so that's not really a complete solution for
    us.
ConfigMgr is designed to easily configure devices to update against ConfigMgr, not Microsoft Update, so there isn't just a check box for what you want.
Consider using ConfigMgr Compliance Settings to manage the registry keys for the Windows Update settings you are looking for on your devices.
    I hope that helps,

  • SCCM Software Update Agent remains disabled

    Dear All,
on single notebooks the Software Updates Agent remains disabled even if the Client Settings policy is set to enale the agent as in the attached images:
Even though if I set e.g. the remote tool agent as disabled, the agent becomes disabled on the same notebooks, where the SUA does not change state. Therefore a communication error is excluded.
Does anyone know where to look after more information about this issue and eventually how to solve it?
CMClient Version on all Clients: 5.00.7804.1000
OS on the Client: Win 8 or Win 8.1 U1
SCCM Version on the Server: System Center Configuration manager 2012 SP 1 5.0.7804.1500

  • SCCM - software updates deployment.

    Hi All,
i have adobe acrobat version 10.1.10 installed on my mahcine, when ever i am trying to up deploy an Adobe acrobat 10.1.13 for my machine using but its not gettin updated. Also , one thing that i have seen is even after deployment it is not showing up under
    deployment package.
Can anyone help on this, Iam using shavlik higher version of SCUP with SCCM to achieve this.
    Rsg,

    Hi,
You could troubleshoot software updates deployment by checking logs.
    UpdatesDeployment.log
    UpdatesHandler.log
    WUAHandler.log
    %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log

  • SCCM Software Update's / ADR questions

    Hello Technet/SCCM community,
after much scratching of the ol' noggin and lots of internet searches I have been left with a handful of questions regarding SCCM 2012 SP1 and its Software Update Point functionality with emphasis on Automatic Deployment Rules.
1.When creating an ADR if one ADR's updates are the same as another ADR's updates how can we avoid storing/downloading duplicates? Can I store the updates in the same folder and will SCCM be smart enough to share the updates rather than having two copies?
note: one way around the above would be to separate updates into different ADR's, here is my issue with this method: lets say I have one ADR for Win7 updates and one for Office2013/Silverlight etc. Now Im deploying multiple packages to machines causes a
larger update window and possible multiple restarts. So lets say I suppress the restarts, well when users get around to it they will still see the updates being applied and per our policy we have one window to push these and when we wander from the norm users
minds break. i.e. I don't want multiple ADR's deployed to the machines a month and I do not want to suppress restarts.
    2. Is there no way to only download the metadata of these updates? Currently updates for my environment are eating up 80 gigs of hard drive space. 40 gigs to the download location which then gets duplicated to the content library which sets me up for my
next question: Why are these updates in both locations essentially doubling the HD space you need for updates. My content library grows gig for gig with my SUP updates store.
    3. Scenario: I deploy updates month 1, 100 updates are downloaded and deployed and update group entry is created. Next month I deploy again this time 50 updates are downloaded and deployed, update group 2 created. Questions: Now if I delete update group
1 and do not have a date released or revised rule will the next deploy grab update group 1's updates again? In other words should I always leave the update groups in SCCM so it knows what updates have been deployed and wont download those updates again. And
finally if I should leave the update groups can I still delete the updates from the folder freeing up space but still allowing SCCM to know whats been deployed?
    4. Does anyone have an essential Windows 7 workstation updates ADR build they can share. For Workstations I like to deploy everything they need in one ADR, Office 2013, Silverlight, SCEP, and WIN7. So far Ive never come close to the 1000 limit. Server ADR's
    are a different story.
    MichaelSpaulding

I appreciate your clarification of an ADR, I understand what it does and doesn't do, I'm simply using the term ADR to cover the subjects I'm discussing.
This piece of your response answers my questions in full and is very helpful.
"You can use the "Period of time for which all pending deployments with deadline in this time will also
be installed" setting on the Software Updates tab to group deployments together that have slightly different deadline times; however, Office 2013 and SCEP updates generally don't require a reboot."
I had previously set the deadline/restart window to "as soon as possible", I will utilize
the above to resolve my issues with my ADR deployments and I will also use the below for how I group updates.
"I generally configure an ADR for all workstation OS updates, one for Office, one for Server updates,
and one for SCEP. These all reference the exact same update package which I then change on a periodic basis like every 6-12 months. I also create new update groups month for each of these (except SCEP defs)."
    Thanks great stuff Jason:)

  • SCCM - software updates - Not required.

    Hi All,
Can some one help with the understanding of "Not Required" software updates. How does actually SCCM decides why a particular software update is not required for a machine.
    Rgs,

Hi, The detection method for if an update is applicable comes with the WSUS component so, the WSUS client which is configured by the SCCM client policy to use the SUP as a WSUS servern.
The client downloads infiormation about all updates and how they are detected from the SUP and then it sends the result to the MP that processes which updates are applicable or not into the SCCM DB.
So it it the same way the Windows Update agent uses WSUS and Microsoft Update detects which updates are applicable.

  • SCCM software updates reporting

we are slowly transitioning from WSUS to SCCM for microsoft updates.  I used SCCM to manually update a few servers last night by making a software update group "available" to them.
I installed all the upsdates and rebooted.  On the server if i open Software Center there are no more updates to be installed.  If I look in SCCM under Monitoring --> Deployments...it still has these servers as "In progress" .  I
completed this a day ago.  Why wouldn't this be reporting as completed?
Is there a better place to look than deployments for this sort of a report?

Yes, the actual reports. Things in the console tend to lag behind what's actually going on for performance reasons.

  • SCCM Software Update Reporting - Understanding the Report

I could use some help in understanding what makes a computer compliant and what makes a computer non-compliant in regards to SCCM’s Software Update reporting.
When I look at a report for a compliant computer and a non-compliant computer, I do not see the pattern which would cause a computer to be compliant or non-compliant.
    Example for two computers:
For each report, every item with a check mark in the Approved column also has a check mark in the Installed column.
For each report, if there is a check mark in the Is Required column, there are no check marks in the other two columns for that row.
Yet one computer shows as compliant while the other shows as non-compliant.
So in regards to the three columns in a Software Update report, what should be checked or un-checked to indicate whether a computer is compliant or not?
    doyle

    Okay,
When you run a Compliance 1 report, the resulting report lists three rows:
    One row for “Non-compliant”
The second row for “Compliance state unknown”
    The third for “Compliant”
Drilling down into each row displays the computers that fall under the three categories above.
Drilling down further on specific computers within each category shows each update on its own row with three columns, “Approved”, “Installed” and “Is
    Required”.
I have been assuming that a computer lacking approved updates would fall under the “Non-compliant” report while a computer with all approved updates installed would
fall under the “Compliant” report. (correct?)
With this assumption, I have comparing compliant vs non-compliant computer reports by looking at the “Approved”, “Installed”, and “Is Required”
column of each.  But I am not seeing the pattern that would designate one computer has compliant and another non-compliant.
So it is the report (not me) that is telling what is compliant and what is not compliant.
Am I understanding this incorrectly and if so, please fill me in (details would be great)?

  • SCCM Software Updates Reports

    Hi All,
Does somebody has the idea how to build a SQL query to get software updates installation history (dateInstalled) per computer/sccmSite in SCCM reports? I would like to create a report to the management about how many patches where deployed
    by SCCM and when?
    Thanks!

Yes, I know this is an old post, I’m trying to clean them up.
SU install date is not actually recorded by CM07. There is the last changed date but that is not the same as the installed date. On top of that there is no way to determine which SU were deploy via CM07 vs manually.

  • Software update data back up problems

    Hi,
So I've just got around to updating my 9360 to what I think is 7.1
After I deleted the unused languages and created space for it, the phone started a data back up But when it got to 15% it just stopped and didn't move, I left it all evening (so about 4hrs) and still nothing, so I turned it off and took the battery out. I put it back in again and the back up started again, but this time it got to 8% and stopped , I left it over night but nothing.
Any ideas? Because the phone is rendered useless until this is finished. Oh and also, I've tried plugging it in to mycomputer to updatethrough the software but obviously it won't connect
    Thanks, Tim

There are two methods of recovery for you to try:
    One:
Open Blackberry Desktop Software & Connect your device with PC using USB cable, without inserting battery.
You will get three option Retry, Update Or Cancel, then click on update.
Once it is to the stage of the update "initializing handheld", then insert battery.
If this does not work, and you remain stuck on the backing up the Social Feeds database, go to the second method below.
    Secondly:
Start your BlackBerry in Safe mode.  Article ID: KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Modehttp://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB17877
Connect to the BlackBerry Desktop Software and allow your handheld to connect. If you are prompted to upgrade, cancel the upgrade for later.
IF you cannot connect or your Desktop Software does not recognize your device while in Safe Mode, please follow the directions here to force the detect:  Article ID: KB10144 How to force the detection of the BlackBerry smartphone using Application Loader
Go to Device > delete > SELECT DATA > select to delete both the Social Feeds and Smart Card databases, and follow the remaining prompts to complete it.
Now, you can return and click to upgrade the device through the Desktop Manager, or reboot the BlackBerry in normal mode and continue the over the air upgrade.
