SCEP 2012 manual definitions update for use in OSD
So I am setting up to deploy SCEP 2012 4.5.0216.0 during my OSD task sequence. I am following the guidelines laid out by the blog post:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2012/04/12/operating-system-deployment-and-endpoint-protection-client-installation.aspx. I have created a package with the scepinstall.exe, EPAMPolicy.xml, and Install.cmd.
Note: I got the EPAMPolicy.xml from a client I let install SCEP the "normal way" by deploying client settings that said to install and manage the client.
I added to the EPAMPolicy.xml file:
<AddValue Name="DisableUpdateOnStartupWithoutEngine" Disabled="false" Type="REG_DWORD">1</AddValue>
Added it between:
<AddValue Name="AuGracePeriod" Type="REG_DWORD" Disabled="false">4320</AddValue>"I ADDED THE CODE RIGHT HERE"<AddValue Name="SignatureUpdateInterval" Type="REG_DWORD" Disabled="false">8</AddValue>
The "Install.cmd" contains:
"%~dp0scepinstall.exe" /s /q /NoSigsUpdateAtInitialExp /policy "%~dp0EPAMPolicy.xml"
So these things together install SCEP 2012 version 4.5.0216.0 and
cancels any definition updates when done installing and when the service first starts up. When the install finishes the client is RED since I cancelled all updates. This is WORKING FINE.
Now I have a package that contains the definition updates "mpam-fe.exe" and "nis_full.exe" as described in the linked blog. Running the proper 32/64 version of the mpam-fe.exe effectively updates the client Anti-malware definitions
to the version I have downloaded for that day. The client now turns GREEN. This is WORKING FINE.
The part that is not working is running the Network Inspection Service definitions, "nis_full.exe". It goes right through like it was fine when run manually, but when you check event log you see it put two errors in Event
Log. It also is causing my Task Sequence to fail.
I questioned how valid the nis_full.exe was anymore since the blog post is not real new...so I found:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935934. It is titled, "How to manually download the latest antimalware definition updates for Microsoft Forefront Client Security, Microsoft Forefront Endpoint
Protection 2010 and Microsoft System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection". I verified by downloading using the links given in that article that my files matched hash for hash.
In that article it does say if running SCEP 2012 to also install the nis_full.exe as administrator.
This is not working!
Any assistance is appreciated. Any better way to deploy SCEP during task sequence and definitions WITHOUT scanning for updates during "Install Software Updates" task or letting client go to
internet?

Using the supplied EPAMPolicy2.xml did not resolve the issue. I still get an "0x80004005" error when I try to deploy the "nis_full.exe" during my task sequence. The client and malware definitions work as intended and install successfully. The NIS definitions
fail though.

SCEP definition updates for clients in DMZ
Hello,
I do want to enable SCEP definition updates for small group of clients in DMZ (apprx 30 -40)
I have created a separate AD OU and SCCM collection for such computers.
Google shows me different ways like using Definition Update Automation Tool, WSUS, scripts, shares etc, and I am quite confused for which way to adopt.
can any one suggest me which is the best automated way?
I do have SCCM 2012 sp1 and all win 8 cleints.
Thanks in AdvanceYou can use whathever method you prefer. All will most likely work. As there's already Configmgr in place I'd use it to do this job. ADRs (automatic deployment rules) can be used to automate this process.

By the time you read this, a new Definition Update is already available, and this issue should no longer be relevant. However, the simple fix is this: DECLINE the annoying update and wait for the next Definition Update to be published.

Update for use RW2 in Elements12 en CS5 failed.
update for use RW2 in Elements12 en CS5 failed.
And exactly what? You have not provided any system info or other technical details like what camera you use that would necessitate an ACR update. For CS5 you can probably forget that, anyway, if your camera is super new. Raw support simply is version specific and the old ACR 6.7 may not cover your camera model at all.

SCEP 2012 Definition Updates for Linux machines thru SCCM
We have a situation where SCEP definition needs to be updated on Linux machines which don't have access to internet.
All I have read is that SCEP functions as stand alone for Linux & Mac machines. Can someone guide thru how do SCEP definitions get updated on Linux machines that are not connected to internet.Pls check the below link

I've been going around in circles for hours now trying to figure this out, but I now officially give up. I have no idea how to fix this. So I came here before I chuck my laptop across the room.
Whenever I try to install the definition update, it fails and says "error found. Code 80070002 windows update encountered an unknown error". I've tried to fix it using the
Windows Update troubleshooter, but it can't fix it. Also, tried to follow some manual fixes, but none of what they say to do exists on my computer (like files and such). Help!
I have a Sony Vaio, Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium edition.
I also installed the System Update Readiness Tool as a last ditch effort to see if it would fix it. It didn't.
Thanks for your time.Hi,
I aggree with Hetti.
In Windows 7, Windows defender only removes spyware, but to protect yourself from viruses, you still need to download antivirus software, such as Avast Antivirus.
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/securitytipstalk/archive/2014/01/16/do-i-need-anything-besides-windows-defender.aspx
To install the update for Windows Defender, i recommand you to fully exit Avast and manually install the update.

DPM 2012 Failed to update permissions used in end-user recovery
Hello everyone,
I'm going to try the clearest way possible to describe the problem.
Our test server is Windows Server 2012 with DPM 2012 SP1 CU2 (BKP-SRV01) with a Remote SQL server 2012 (PBASC)
I protected a share folder on a DC on Windows Server 2008 R2 (PAD)
When I activate End-User Recovery I get a warning in the monitor tab that say this
Failed to update permissions used for end-user recovery on pad. Permissions update failed for the following reason: (ID 3123)
DPM is unable to enumerate contents in pad_PartageTest on the protected computer BKP-SRV01. Recycle Bin, System Volume Information folder, non-NTFS volumes, DFS links, CDs, Quorum Disk (for cluster) and other removable media cannot be protected. (ID 38 Details:
the end user recovery is working, but i do not know if it affect other things. I also get that message when i try to browse on the DPM server when creating a protection group
When I go see the DPM Server / File and Storage Services / Shares on Server Manager i get "Failed to retrieve folder permission" in the properties of the Protected server share.
I tried to search for almost 2 days without finding anything about that particular issue.
Is there a way (clean way) to fix the issue?
Thanks in advance for the help!Closing for housekeeping.

That's not very helpful. I've got the same issue :(
Comes up for servers where a protection group related to it errors out (recovery point failure usually). -
SCEP 2012 Client settings currently have "Install Endpoint Protection client on computers" set to Yes. This is deployed to quite a few machines. The client installs just fine, everything updates, and we are set. In the Endpoint Protection Agent
log shows periodic checks for if SCEP needs to be installed. Which technically isn't an issue and eventually I'll flip this setting to No and leave it Manage only.
However, around the times it checks the client I notice a GP Update kicking off. Does anyone know if installing SCEP or having the client check to see if it is installed kicks off a GP Update?Interesting. I didn't think to check that specific log. I do see activity in there for other GP objects besides SCEP. Perhaps it runs the equivalent of gpupdate /target:computer
I don't think I see any user items in there.
This reminds me of an issue I ran into before. Take the scenario of a domain joined machine that is currently connecting via the Internet. You have an IBCM server set up, so Internet connected machines are able to receive policy and software. You would think
that would include changes to SCEP policy too. However, if you make a change to SCEP policy and then try to update policy on the client, it won't actually apply the SCEP policy changes until it's back on the domain. I guess that's because whatever ConfigSecurityPolicy.exe
is doing requires a connection to be made to a domain controller and even though the SCEP content is stored locally in an XML file, it can't finish the process of getting it into Registry.pol and then into the Registry itself until it can connect to the DC
again.
Seems like it would make more sense to just import it directly into the Registry and bypass the GP client entirely. Anyway, I don't mean to hijack the thread but it would be nice to see Microsoft clarify exactly what's going on in both cases :-) -
Where do I download a Windows Server 2012 R2 .iso from, for use with Hyper-v?
Hello,
Where do I download a Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard .iso from, for use with Hyper-v?
The only official download I can find is the evaluation version from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/evaluate-windows-server-2012-r2
Is it recommended to use the evaluation version and then license it to make it a full version, or is there a better official download?
Thanks
PaulHi Brian,
I don't personally have an MSDN subscription.
So using the evaluation versions is ok?
With a Windows Server 2012 R2 license, you can have two
Windows Server 2012 R2 virtual
machines, so I assume I can turn evaluation version VMs into full fledged servers?
Thanks
Paul
How did you acquire a Server 2012 R2 license without any installation media? Can you get the installation media from the same source? How did you install 2012 R2 on the host?

If you also have Java SE 6 already installed, Software Update will provide you with Java for OS X 2013-001. -
Cannot Download July 2012 Critical Patch Update for JRockit
All,
I am trying to download:
"Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - July 2012", particularly for JRockit. I keep running into what seems to be a database issue on Oracle's side.
The July 2012 Patch informational notes are at:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/security/cpujul2012-392727.html
And I am trying to download the Fusion Middleware patch (as JRockit is included in Fusion Middleware, it seems like).
I go to download from the following URL, as stated in the July Patch Release:
https://support.oracle.com/CSP/main/article?cmd=show&type=NOT&id=1455387.1
and receive:
Failure of server APACHE bridge:
No backend server available for connection: timed out after 10 seconds or idempotent set to OFF.
Appreciate any help.

You can access the same link through MOS website https://support.oracle.com -- If you have a valid username/password and CSI number, search for "Doc ID: 1455387.1" and you should be able to see the list of patches in this doc and download it.

Manual Firmware Update for Home Hub 2?
Due to a seperate problem mentioned on another thread, I am having to use my Home Hub 2 as an additional wireless AP with my Home Hub 3 as primary router.
My HH2 is on an outdated firmware version but doesn't get updated as it is not directly connected to the ADSL connection, only via ethernet to my HH3.
Is there a way I can apply the lastest firmware to my HH2 without having to use it as my primary router for a period of time?Hi unfortunately no the only way is with them on-line

When will the Bonjour protocols be updated for use in an Enterprise?
Bonjour protocols really need an upgrade. Usage of iOS devices in a large VPN'd network is difficult to say the least. These limitations are making it impossible to recommend usage of iOS equipment. In some cases I have found a work around to get iStuff operational, but when someone with a windows tablet can walk into a classroom or office and have their 'stuff' work immediatly (including printing) it becomes difficult to recommend that anyone use an iPad.
Note that this does not affect apps that are already in the app store. It only comes into play if you decide to submit a new app or update an existing one.
