Screen brightens intensely, quickly, hangs for a few minutes

My Macbook Pro screen brightens intensely, becoming very very bright, and the notebook becomes hot, hangs for around 2 minutes before getting back to normal. This is a Macbook Pro 2009, running Mavericks. It was on Mountain Lion when this problem occurred, I upgraded to Maverick yeserday, but the problem still exists.
I experienced this after a Flash Player video and it appears it's some kind of malaware. I can't find a way to fix this. I reset the SMC, reset the NVRAM, scanned using Sophos anti-virus, but the problem reduced (i.e. now happens once a day vs before it was once every hour).

System Preferences >  Flash Player > Advanced >  Delete  All
     Press the "Delete All" button.
    Try again.

  • SQL Developer hangs for a few minutes after being idle for a while.

Is anyone aware of any issues with SQL Developer hanging for several minutes after being idle for several hours? After being idle for several hours (and probably minimized), when we bring up SQL Developer we just get a blank white window for several minutes before it becomes functional. Obviously, this isn't a critical issue, but sure is annoying when you run into it.
    Thanks in advance!!

This is fairly typical java application behaviour. For whatever reason, they are particularly prone to being swapped out by the operating system and take time to swap back in.
There is an add-in around called "keepresident" which helps this but I thought it had been superceded in later JDK version.

  • Preview hangs for a few minutes

Since installing Yosemite i regularly but not constantly have to wait a few minutes for Preview to open a PDF file that is either on desktop or in Mail attachment.
If i am not patient and Force Quit, then app cannot open anymore and have to restart the computer.
Guys at Apple, what have you done with Yosemite???
    Anyone had same issue?

  • White screen:  Already restored ipod. ok for a few minutes. Now white screen again. How do I fox it?

How can I restore my ipod touch?  I had a white screen and followed instrucrtions to restore it.  Normal Screendwas restored briefly, and is now showing a white display.  Can this be fixed?

Try restoring your iPOd, first from backup and if problem persists restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
For how to restore, see the restoring topic of:
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software
If still a problem you likely have hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • When I turn on or restart my Macbook Pro Retina 15", my entire screen flashes completely bright yellow for a few seconds and then it goes to the normal Welcome screen.  How do I fix this??

    Hi Everyone,
This problem just started today.  When I turn on or restart my Macbook Pro Retina 15" (Mid 2012 version), my screen is light gray like normal, and then after a few seconds my entire screen flashes completely bright yellow for a few seconds, and then it goes to the normal Welcome screen (where I choose to login as myself or a guest user).  This suddenly started today and has not stopped since.  This keeps happening every single time I turn on or restart my computer.
Yesterday I installed all the Mavericks and other updates that were available in the App Store, so I'm wondering if this is related to that since this never happened prior to my doing those updates yesterday.  When I first installed the new OS X Mavericks (10.9.3) update, it went through the whole installation process (took about 10 minutes), and then during the installation I got an error message saying that it couldn't verify my iTunes application that was on my laptop, and then my laptop finished installing the updates.  Then once my laptop restarted, the App Store "Updates" section said that I had to do the whole OS X Mavericks (10.9.3) and iTunes (Version 11.2) updates all over again.  So my laptop did the whole installation again (took about 10 minutes, but this time I didn't get that "iTunes error message" during the installation process).
Now, when I go to the App Store "Updates" section, it says the following under "Updates Installed in the Last 30 days":
-Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update (Version 5.05) installed May 15, 2014
    -OS X Update (Version 10.9.3) installed May 15, 2014
    -iTunes (Version 11.2) installed May 15, 2014
    -OS X Update (Version 10.9.3) installed May 15, 2014
    -iTunes (Version 11.2) installed May 15, 2014
    -Security Update 2014-002 (Version 1.0) installed April 22, 2014
I'm wondering if this flashing bright yellow screen upon bootup is related to the fact that my laptop installed the OS X Update and the iTunes Update two times each?  Or is this new problem totally unrelated?  It's just that this problem started a day after these 2 updates were installed twice.
My Macbook Pro Retina 15" (Mid 2012 version) is otherwise working fine at least as of now.  The only issue so far is this flashing bright yellow screen every time I turn on or restart my computer.
If anyone could please help me fix this so that my bootup screen doesn't flash completely bright yellow anymore, I would be forever grateful!
Thank you so much for reading this and for any help you can provide.
    hope everyone is well,
    Elaine

    Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP!  Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process.  Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal.  No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
(Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
Let me know if this works for you!

  • IPhone is at a grey screen after flashing for a few minutes

My iPhone is at a grey screen after flashing at the same screen for a couple of minutes.
I can turn my screen on and off, phone functions and siri both work. The screen is just grey, no error messages or anything.
This happened after I was trying to connect to a wifi hotspot and I was typing something into a field when it froze, flashed for a few minutes, and stayed on a grey screen. This has been going on for about an hour and a half.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Brialex119,
If your iPhone is flashing with a grey screen, I would suggest resetting the device and resetting the network settings.  If that does not resolve the issue, then you may need to back up to iCloud and restore it.

iOS: Wi-Fi settings grayed out or dim - Apple Support

    Restart your iOS device.
Make sure that airplane mode is off by tapping Settings > Airplane Mode.
Reset the network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
Make sure that your device is using the latest software. To do so, connect your device to your computer and check for updates in iTunes.

  • Firefox hangs for a few seconds when trying to pause videos or skip ads on Youtube.

    Hello all!
My problem is that YouTube sort of hangs for a few seconds when I try to pause a video or skip ahead or skip ads. The video freezes while the audio keeps playing until, after say 5 seconds, youtube finally does what I tell it to do.
This doesn't happen if the video is embedded on a different website, nor does it happen on Vimeo, Dailymotion etc. I can play YouTube videos perfectly while using Chrome, IE and a Windows 8 Youtube app I have.
After the initial freeze all commands start working very well, at least until I open a new video.
I noticed that a lot of people are having trouble with youtube while using firefox and I've tried a few things:
    - uninstalling and reinstalling flash and java
    - starting Firefox in safe mode
    - using different antivirus software
    - reinstalling Firefox
I read that this might be a problem caused by the whole Google being all buddy-buddy with Adobe thing, but I'm skeptical.
So, is there any way to get YouTube to work properly?
    Thanks!

It does sound like you might have a faulty video connection. See if you can make a Genius Bar appointment at your local Apple Store.

  • FF 30.0 hangs for a few seconds when opening new window

    It seems like
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/984193
It did not start with 30.0 but I upgraded in the hope that it would solve the situation.
Every time I open a new window FF hangs for a few seconds. It does not hang opening a new tab!
I tried the steps described in the above topic but they did not work.
if I open the console and type
    gSnippetsMap.clear()
    the result is
    undefined.
    If I type
    localStorage['snippets-last-update'] = 0
    the result is
[Exception... "Component is not available" nsresult: "0x80040111 (NS_ERROR_NOT_AVAILABLE)" location: "JS frame :: debugger eval code :: <TOP_LEVEL> :: line 1" data: no]
There is no difference if I use "Show a blank page" or "Show my home page" where home page is set to "about:blank" for "When Firefox starts".
BTW, I am using Windows 8.1

    Short addition:
After the new window is opened I can type a few characters (max 5) into the searchbar. Only from then the hang begins.

  • Internet dropping. Works for a few minutes, sometimes seconds. Then cuts out completely and hangs.

Since doing a clean install of Mountain Lion on my 2011 iMac. The internet connects on startup, works for a few minutes, then hangs as if it's getting stuck.
Everything is up to date and I've tried numberous ideas to fix it (Renewing the DHCP, editing the MTU). Nothing works.
It's still fully connected to the wifi and says there's an internet connection but nothing will load, not just the browsers but also anything else to do with the internet also doesn't work.
I've seen others with the same issue also.
Any assistance would be highly appreciated as my iMac is pretty much rendered useless currently.

Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in serach tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop.
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
Click Here to configure your router with DSL ISP.
Thanks for the instructions Mort and clong but before I update my firmware, I was able to connect to the internet on my computer with the router at last! But there is still a problem. Whenever I try to connect my PS3 to it, it would stop working for both my PC and the PS3.

  • Network hangs after streaming music for a few minutes

I have a strange network problem when I stream iTunes music from my MacBook Pro, via an Airport Extreme base station to an Airport Express with speakers connected. The MacBook and Airport Extreme both have a wireless connection to the base station.
After the music has been streaming for a few minutes, it is no longer possible to access the internet or local network from the MacBook (e.g. with Safari, Mail). Even a ping to my router fails to respond. However, the music continues to play over the remote speakers all the time, so there is apparently a network connection to the base station.
Simply stopping iTunes does not fix the problem, but if I turn the Airport connection off and on again on the MacBook, the network comes back to life for a few more minutes. I can access the Internet via the Airport Extreme using my iPod Touch, so the base station must still be working. When I am not using iTunes streaming, the network is fine.
I tried replacing the Airport Extreme by another Airport Express, so that I had an Airport Express as the base station and another Airport Express connected to the speakers. The problem no longer occurred, even though the Airport Express and Airport Extreme had the same firmware version (7.4.1) and were configured with all the same settings. This leads me to think the problem is with the Airport Extreme.
I also tried connecting the MacBook to the Airport Extreme using an Ethernet cable, instead of the wireless connection. With this configuration, the problem did not occur.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I have the exact same problem. My entire computer stalls for a while until the music comes back. I've tried streaming the music through Airfoil instead of through iTunes but the same problem occurs, although it seems to be less frequent through Airfoil.

  • After changing the battery in my iphone 4s, the phone will not boot up. I only see the apple and when it sits for a few minutes, a code shows above it. What is going on? Did I damage the phone by replacing the battery?

My sister gave me her iphone 4s for my son. It needed a new battery so, I bought one and replaced it. after doing so, it will not power up. I can only see the apple on the screen and when left for a few minutes.... 10 lines of numbers and codes show up at the top of the screen. Did I ruin the iphone by replacing the battery? Was a simple switch so I don't understand what is going on. Have never had one of these before.

    iPhones are not user servicable.
Take the device to a competent repair person or buy a new one.

  • How to automatically lock my computer if I step away for a few minutes

What is the best way to secure my computer if I walk away for a few minutes? Having the screensaver come on? Or is there another way to lock out the current user if the computer is inactive for 5+ minutes?
    Thanks!

If you choose "Show Status in Menu Bar" from Keychain Access > Preferences > General you will get a little padlock in the Right Hand menu bar. This has a menu "Lock Screen, …" which will automatically switch to the screensaver and require entry of a password to get back (it does allow switching to another user if Fast User Switching is enabled).
That way you can set security immediately. It would, though, be a good idea to trigger the screensaver after a minute or two (whatever suits you) in case you forget
