Screen no longer working.

Hello everyone,
My iPad's screen is no longer working. It displays images the way it should on one side of the screen and everything on the other side appears blurred with the screen looking dark almost as it was turned off. The line the separates the two sides runs along its vertical dimension and the "good" side takes about one third of the screen with the "bad" side taking the other two thirds.
I have already done a reset pressing both buttons on the iPad and have also tried to restore it from iTunes but both attempts have worked.
The iPad was only purchased two years ago so it is obvious I wouldn't expect a product this expensive to last only two years.
What do you think it may be ? Any idea of what can be done to fix it ? Will Apple offer any type of repair or warranty for this product ?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi, Meg.
I've contacted Apple as you suggested and they have already taken care of the problem.
Thank you for your help and reply.

  • Music buttons on the lock screen no longer work with ios7.

on my 4S, when ios 7 was loaded, bluetooth music play buttons and the music buttons on the lock screen no longer work.  Hence, I can neither use the music buttons at the lock screen nor can I use the control on my car (bluetooth...) to change songs.  Volume adjust at the lock screen appears to work.  Can't pause/play or move to the next/prior music.

I did see a reply on a similar post:
    You can try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
However, some onther users have reported the same problem so it it may be a bug in iOS
I did the RESET DEVICE only to mine (i.e., did not reset all settings...) and it did work to fix the buttons (haven't tested on the car, but it'll likely be OK now...).  Certainly there is a bug somewhere that needs fixed...

Is there an easier way of refreshing the system so that it will recognize the pen? Is this an operating system issue, I have vista currently.

  • HP Envy touch screen no longer working

Not certain when but my touch screen is no longer working on my HP Envy?  Think it might have occurred during the Windows 8.1 upgrade.
Please provide a simple way to restore.  Pen and touch is no longer installed?

    Hello again dmcarswell,
Thank you for responding to my post requesting additional information. I am going to recommend that you review and follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Using HP Support Assistant (Windows 8), which in the section "Software and drivers installed" has the instructions you need to follow. As long as the drivers are available and you have an internet connection the HP Support Assistant should automatically find, download and install the drivers for you.
Now if you are still experiencing the same issue after doing this you may have to go into the Device Manager and manually uninstall the Graphics driver (ensuring it is deleted). Once you have done this manually download and install  the driver from the HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j063cl Notebook PC Drivers page.
Please re-post if you require additional support. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!
Please click the "Thumbs Up" on the bottom right of this post to say thank you if you appreciate the support I provide!

  • 'screen' no longer works in Yosemite - Resource Busy

For many years I have used USB serial devices to connect to external machines, using commands like
    $ screen /dev/tty.usbserial-FTFZXCV 115200
Since the upgrade to Yosemite, this no longer works.  The screen commands give an error
'screen cannot open /dev/tty.usbserial-FTFZXCV for R/W - Resource Busy'
There was a similar question from April but that talked about using lost to identify an orphan session.
$ lsof | grep usbserial   # no output
$ pgrep screen # no output.
    The permission seems sensible:
    $ ls -l /dev/tty.*

    crw-rw-rw-  1 root  wheel   18,   6 21 Nov 19:42 /dev/tty.Bluetooth-Modem
    crw-rw-rw-  1 root  wheel   18,   0 21 Nov 19:42 /dev/tty.usbserial-FTZXCV

In regard to your inquiry, compatible drivers for MAC OS Yosemite will be released by the end of this year.

My touch screen on my phone has stopped being responsive, however, I have noticed that there is now a voice which states whatever I press, though the phone will not take me into that application, i.e. if I tap contacts, it says contacts and yet I remain on the home screen.  My question is therefore,
    1) How do I turn this function off and
    2) is it this function that has messed up my phone or does it just no longer work?
Thanks for any assistance which will save me having to send the phone back to blackberry for a few weeks

  • 160gb iPod Classic, Screen No Longer Working

    Hello,
So I have a 160gb ipod classic. I dropped it a few weeks ago by accident and now the screen does not work. No backlight, no lightup, no nothing. It will sync up to my PC just fine and if I plug headphones in and navigate to a song by memory it will play. I hoped it was just an issue with the connector coming loose inside the ipod. So i took it all apart since I got it in like 2010 and was out of warrenty. Unfortunatly, to my dismay, the issue was not the connection to the logic board. After doing a little more research I took it apart even more to see if there was a tear in the lcd connecter anywhrere, there wasn't. So I put it all back together and I was still getting the same issue. Great. My next thought was to get a new lcd. I had an ipod classic 80gb in like 2007 with a broken hard drive so I did some research and found they were the exact same lcd. So instead of buying a new lcd, I just took it out of that one and replaced it in the 160gb ipod. It worked!! well... sort of. I still get nothing on the display screen, but now, when I touch the clickwheel, the backlight lights up. Again, I can select songs from memory and it syncs up fine, but I cannot see anything on the screen. So thats a start, isnt it? I'm not sure. I tried to restore it in iTunes but kept getting an "unknown error 1514." Did some reserch on that and wasnt very helpful.
If anyone could help me out anymore that would be great. I am kind of at an end for what else to do. I'm out of ideas and after looking through this forum and others I have not found a real solution. ANY advice would be helpful. Thanks so much!
I am seriously considering ditching hard drive based media players, as the second they get dropped its all over. But I love being able to carry around all 100+ gigs of music and 30+ gigs of movies with me in one small device. if they made a 128 gig flah memory itouch id be all over it...

  • "Layout" option on print screen no longer working?

    Hi,
I've been using the Layout menu on the print dialogue to create 6 slide per page handouts for some time now. However, I just decided to do a clean install of leopard (computer had leopard installed before wipe, too). Now, the Layout option no longer works. I can select a layout, and then Save to PDF as I always have, but the PDF that results only has a single slide per page. I have no idea why this is happening. Does anyone have a solution?

Bumping this, hoping someone can answer. It's a serious hinderance to my workflow. Just as a bit of extra info -- it happened to BOTH my wiped and reinstalled macs.

  • Screen no longer works, help getting set up with external LCD?

So my Titanium Macbook Pro's screen went out yesterday and it's no longer covered so I've been trying to figure out how to get it to work with an external LCD monitor.
I can get it to boot up, and I can even get it to open itunes via Spotlight and hit play and hear music, so I know all else is (hopefully) fine.
The monitor I have is an "Acer LCD Monitor AL1916W A" and I have the adaptor going out of my MBP to a VGA cord that then connects to the Acer.
I read this page to get the idea to do this: http://osxdaily.com/2010/12/21/broken-macbook-pro-screen-turn-it-into-a-desktop- mac/
But I cannot get the Acer screen to recognize the MBP and show an image. The Acer powers up and shows it's logo but then says 'no signal'.
I tried to blindly Spotlight > System Preferences > Displays but can't get anywhere from there. I tried to restart it and close the screen but no-go.
    Help?

  • Satellite L450D-11v screen no longer works

    Hiya,
A few days ago I noticed my laptop would no longer go into any power options mode then I started to get flickering across the screen before the screen went blank. I would have to press the power button to turn it back on again but the problem still persists.
I turned the brightness setting down to the lowest option and the flickering stopped and it no longer turned itself off. This lasted for one day then the problem continued. Everything else works fine and I can see the images on screen but it's very very faint.
I was wondering if it's worth replacing the inverter board? I have had a look at it and it looks ok, no wires loose or liquid damage but would appreciate some advice before buying one if this is the correct option to do as I am replacing my laptop but if I can get it working again without it costing a lot of money it's not worth spending I can use it as a backup.
    Much appreciated,

    > Everything else works fine and I can see the images on screen but it's very very faint.
For me it sounds like FL inverter issue.
Its a small part controlling the display backlight.
Recommend asking an notebook technician to check this small part and to replace if its really faulty.

  • Came home from dinner... MacBook Pro screen no longer working!

I came home, hit the spacebar to wake up the machine and get back to work. Repeatedly pressed and held the "increase brightness" button, and the "decrease brightness" button too. No change in the completely dark built-in LCD.I held down the start button, heard the clicking whine of restart, heard the "dong" sound of restart, typed some keystrokes after a minute and heard the telltale sounds of the hard-drive opening new windows. Still no change in the completely dark display.
I repeated the hard restart for a grand total of six times. Always twiddling keys after restart, always the same dark result...
So what should I do? I'm covered under Applecare (can't find any paperwork on the subject however). There's an Apple Store in town.
Is there some obvious thing I'm missing?

Jason, the paperwork shouldn't matter as I presume you registered with Apple. They keep pretty good records of where machines have been sold, etc.
Start from the original installation dvd by holding the C key at startup. Assuming you get the normal startup screen with the 'Select your language' screen, do so. The next screen will have in the menu bar 'Tools'. Choose Disk Utility and open this. Select your drive and do a Disk repair. If there are repairs done or a message 'Unable to repair...' you are on the way to recovery. Hopefully it won't be the second message! If repairs have been done successfully repeat the process until you no longer get any errors.
If unable to see your hd from DU you have a serious problem!
If unable to repair, you should get back to us with the result you did get.
If no errors are found, do a Repair permissions from the same window. If this shows some repairs having been done things might be better. Again repeat this process if repairs have been done until there are no more.
After all this restart and see what happens. If you get your screen back I suggest you download the combo 10.5.2 update from Apple/Support/Downloads and instal that. Use Disk utility on your hd to again repair permissions. After all this use Software Update to check for further updates and proceed with these again repairing permissions after they have finished.
Let's know how you get on.

  • Screen no longer works after Graphics Firmware Update

I received my new IMAC 20 inch a couple of days ago. Worked like a charm. perfect.
I received a request (software update) to update the Graphics firmware for the ATI 2600 processor.
I performed the update, but I can no longer use the IMAC. The screen just stays black, no longer displays any information. I hear the hard disk working thru the startup process, but the screen just stays OFF.
I zapped the PRAM, and restarted many times. No success.
Please help. It worked so fine before this major trouble.
    Patrick

The iMac Graphics Firmware Update 1.0 states:
This update is for 20-inch and 24-inch aluminum iMac computers with the ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO graphics processor, running Mac OS X 10.4.10 or later with iMac Software Update 1.2.1 for Tiger, or Mac OS X 10.5 with iMac Software Update 1.3 for Leopard.
Perhaps you meant OS 10.5.1. The above update also states:
Note: If you are running Mac OS X 10.5.1, iMac Software Update 1.3 is included.

  • Touch Screen No Longer Works After Windows 8 Install on X220 Tablet

I was previously running Windows 8 Preview and did not have any problems with the touch screen.  I have tried two separate clean installs of Windows 8 Pro, and the only thing that will not work is the touch screen with my finger.  The pen still works, but not the finger touch.
The driver installation for both the pen and the multitouch fails with and error saying "A supported tablet was not found on the system."
    Help Please.

  • Yoga 2 Pro touch screen no longer working & intermittent USB issues

    Hey.
Got the Yoga 2 Pro 2 weeks ago. The touchscreen does not work at all today. I've reset/shutdown many times.
Here are the issues I have had in order of occurrence:
    - webcam intermittently not coming up during verifice login on resume from sleep (probably ~ 10 times)
    - touchscreen went mental, registering hundreds of touches per second all over the screen. Sleeping and waking stopped the mayhem. This happened JUST after plugging in a USB flash drive (which I have used before successfully).
    - touchscreen does not work at all. Last night I had my phone plugged in to the laptop for a couple of hours. Touchscreen worked fine I unplugged the phone, but this morning on wake it is not responding at all no matter how many reboots I do.
The first two issues on their own I probably would have ignored, and this ccurrent issue I could imagine being some driver thing. But I worry that the two of them together imply some sort of big USB fault.
I'm not sure what the touchscreen is meant to come up as in device manager, but I've inluded a screenshot below.
Pretty desparate right now. I'm hoping this isn't a  hardware fault because I need this laptop for work =$
Anyway, any advice/idas would be greatly appreciated.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

As an update for anyone else experiencing this problem...
I left the laptop charging, put it to sleep, and went away for an hour or so.
I just came back and woke it from sleep. The battery is now at 92%. The touchscreen now works fine.
Checking device manager, there are now additional devices listed under "Human Interface Devices". See attached screenshot.
Although it is now working, this and the other issues have been super annoying and I'd like to know if anyone else has anything similar happen, or if there are any fixes.
