Screen problems - Horizontal gradient brightness - Satellite R25 Tablet

Hello all
I have some strange problem with my screen. When I use two lowest brightness levels my screen is not constantly bright it has horizontal gradient. Looking from left side I have very dark screen, near middle there is normal brightness, after middle dark again and in the end/right side o screen it's bright.
This anomaly is most notified only on two lowest levels of brightness, when I want to extend my battery life time.
I was replacing my Windows XP but without any positive result.
Does the screen need to be replaced, or is there another way to fix it?

I am afraid it is hardware issue. I cannot say for sure that display is defective but if you bring it to the service technician can test it with special diagnostic tools.
As you can see fresh OS installation didnt help and it cannot be software problem. Sorry but I don't believe there is anything you can do alone to fix it. If possible continue to use display with acceptable brightness level.

  • Screen Problems horizontal lines

    Hi,
since I use Windows 7 X64 on my T500 2241, I have problems with many horizontal small lines on the display. The same I have on an external monitor. With Win XP 32 bit I never had such problems on this computer.
May this problem is related to the video driver. I'm using: Intel Mobile 4 Series express chipset driver version 8.15.10.2302. I have made the latest bios update for my computer.
Nothing helps. Is there an better idea?
    Many thanks

  • Touchsmart IQ 790.uk - screen problems

Starting today, on start up, the monitor on bootup displays only a light green screen / white horizontal gradiented lines. The graphics card in the PC died a few months ago, and I've been operating on the motherboard's VGA ever since.
I want to determine whether the LCD screen is the problem or the motherboard. I have a VGA monitor from an old computer which I'm able to connect to my TouchSmart via a mini-VGA convertor, and I wanted to try and see if I could get the PC running off this, because if I can, the problem is with the monitor, not the motherboard.
But my issue now with this is that I would like to know whether anybody knows of a way to get the PC to boot so that it runs the VGA monitor rather than the inbuilt monitor, without being able to use the inbuilt monitor (which is kaput).
If this isn't possible, I might just have to remove the hard drive and get a new machine, but I'd like to avoid that if at all possible.
So if anyone has any advice on how to do the above, I'd appreciate it!

You can also take the Hard drive out and put it in a friend's PC (with SATA) as a second drive and copy the data off:

Please post rather than send me a Message. It's good for the community and I might not be able to get back quickly. - Thank you.

    Hi,
I hope this ends in the right place. I need a software download for my Satellite R25-S3513, I'm not sure if it is a toshiba software or not, but it was located in the control panel window and it's called tablet and pen settings(it's use to control the buttons locate it on the left lower side of the screen). For some reason I still have the driver, because I see it on the right bottom of the taskbar but when you click on the icon it only said tablet button enable or disable but it doesn't let me make changes to the buttons or it does take me to properties windows to make changes either....
please any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!

    Satellite R25-S3513
it was located in the control panel window and it's called tablet and pen settings
The Tablet and Pen Settings applet in Control Panel is supplied by the tabletpc.cpl file in this  folder..
       C:\Windows\System32
Open Run from the Start menu, put tabletpc.cpl in, and see if it opens.

  • Screen problem - dark patches at the bottom, overall brightness reduced

I bought my MacBook in September 2008 and about 11 months later some dark patches (rather like large thumb-prints) started to appear at the bottom of the screen. The overall brightness of the screen has reduced as well. The patches are more noticable when turning it on in the morning (i.e. when it's been off all night for 10-12 hours), and they fade slightly after a few minutes. The brightness of the screen however, does not improve. It's not ridiculously dark, but the difference is still notable, and when compared with another, one can clearly see mine is a lot darker.
I took it back to the retailer (while within warranty) and their repair company do not think there is anything wrong with it. I know the basics about computer hardware, and my guess is that the backlight has malfunctioned.
Does anyone disagree? If so, what do you think the problem is? I'm not interested in fixing anything myself as that would involve me forking out. Plus I want to get as much out of the retailer as I can for messing me around for over four months!
    Cheers,
    Ben.

I know this is a bit late but when you say you took it back to the retailer are you referring to and Apple retail store or a third party reseller? If it's still under warranty take it to an authorized service provider.

  • Black screen problem on Satellite 1800-921

    Hi there
My satellite 1800-921 has started giving me a black screen after i turn it on. It loads up fine, goes to the desktop and then the screen goes blank and nothing i can do will get it back. You can just make out the dialogue boxes on the screen so I am not sure if its a screen problem or the things i see on the screen are just ghosts...
    It's a bit worrying!
Has anyone else had this problem? So far it only seems to happen when i turn it on. I usually have to turn it off and start again to get it back and then it works fine.
    thanks
    Nancy :)

    Hi,
at older series it can be that the FL inverter is broken or the backlight tupe is damaged. In both cases you can see the screen but without backlight!
To differi if it is a hard- or software based error you should start the notebook and press immediately ESC to enter BIOS. Then the machine should run a half hour in BIOS. When the failure occures it is quite safe that some hardware is broken. Otherwise it is software based and a recovery with the Toshiba Recovery CD should solve the problem!

  • Nokia N97 LCD Screen Problems - a never ending sto...

    Hello.
I recently purchased a new Nokia N97 smartphone. Everything about the phone is awesome, such as GPS, decent camera, good audio and video playback, etc, except for one thing. First thing first, I always see ghosting or 'burn-in' of images on the screen - quiet clearly on bright backgrounds. This is one of many annoyances as it often is visible when your watching movies and will only go away if the screen is off long enough. Another fault with the screen is that it appears to not refresh fast enough as I can often see what appears to be 'scan lines' running horizontal (if the phone is horizontal). Last, but not least, there appears to be diagonal lines crossing the screen from the top left to the buttom right as well as little matrixes of dots, however they do not seem to be on the LCD itself but rather the resistve layer. This may be just a feature to make the screen more reponsive, but I don't know and it is only visible in bright light, but when it is, you can diffently notice it. Does anyone else notice these strange effects? Will a Nokia Care Center help fix it?
And yes, screen proctectors have been removed.
    Naito.

I have the exact same problems... Some other problems two.
When I get a call and my correspondent quits the communication before I do, the phone freezes and I m forced to turn the phone off to deblock it.
This is really annoying. Some times, just while navigating between menus the screen gets stuck between two menus.
I purchased the phone 2 days ago and as you sed, its a great phone but not worth the pries, far from it.
I m goanna bring it back to the shop to have it change to see if its my phone who has a problem or the entire N97 series.
If that's the case I ll go for an other phone. I have always used Nokia phones, and was happy about them but this time I m am really disappointed.
I ll let you guys know if I get these problems fixed or if it gets worst.

  • The screen on my macbook has malfunction. When I change the brightness to zero and return to the first level of brightness it works briefly but then the screen starts to flicker brightness and quickly extinguished.

The screen on my macbook has malfunction. When I change the brightness to zero and return to the first level of brightness it works briefly but then the screen starts to flicker brightness and quickly extinguished. It seems to be a bad contact, it would not be normal for a quality product that should have, he has less than two years of use. Not because of the bad use or crash. Someone with the same problem or can help me? It's really a contact problem? I've done all the procedures recommended by the online support. Thanks.

    Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP!  Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process.  Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal.  No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
(Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
Let me know if this works for you!

I ended up calling Apple Support twice. After first time when we checked drives etc, the second time they said we had done everything and it must be a hardware issue. It had to have a logic board replaced.

  • 24" screen problem -- hellish experience

Well this certainly has been a long road through **** that Apple has dragged me through with this 24” aluminum iMac. After a number of calls, and hours of my time to AppleCare complaining about the left side of my screen being twice as bright as the right side, they insisted that I do an erase and install to make sure that I wasn’t having a software problem. That alone is not a pleasant experience, and consumed more hours of my time. Finally, AppleCare agreed that they should send someone for a site repair. The first replacement of the screen somehow resulted in a dead computer. The technician had to come back again and install a new power supply and logic board. At that time the technician was told by an Apple engineer that non-uniform brightness problems on screens are usually due to one of those two boards anyway. Well, it made no difference. After talking again to Apple, he was told to replace the the video board, so he had to come back a third time. It’s time consuming opening these things and putting them back together, so this literally consumed three afternoons of my life and time off from work. In the end, there was no improvement, so the technician had to call Apple again and tell them that there’s still a problem. At that point, Apple decided to send me a new computer. Needing to erase my personal information on the original one before I sent it back, I was going to do a reformat of the hard drive. However, when I attempted to insert the install disk, I discovered that the optical drive curtain had been mangled by the last repair, and it wouldn’t go in. I was forced to pick through all of my directories selecting stuff to move to the trash in order to do a secure delete. This consumed another several hours.
So, I returned the original, and got a new one several days later, which strangely was mailed directly from California and arrived with an odd serial number beginning with a “QP”. Now the new one has the same problem. At first I was encouraged in that it seemed to be better than the old one after a short warm up, and I decided to give it a few more days. Well, it got worse and started behaving just like the old one. So last week I emailed someone from the AppleCare Admin team who had sent me information about the shipment saying, basically, that I just wanted to return this defective thing, but never received a reply. I also called his extension yesterday asking for a call back, and that hasn’t happened, and as yet, I’ve received no response. So, I had to start at the bottom of the food chain again, calling the usual AppleCare number. This time, I got someone in India rather than California. After attempting to explain what has been going on, she seemed to ignore what I was saying and immediately launched into the old “power down your computer, unplug it, etc.” Good grief, we’ve already been through this several times. After I explained that I just wanted to return it, she actually had the gaul to suggest that I take yet another morning or afternoon off from work and haul this thing to the nearest Apple Store for evaluation by an “Apple Genius”. (That terminology turns my stomach. I’ve known a number of truly brilliant and accomplished people in my life time, and they never refer to themselves or other people as “geniuses.” It’s trashy) At that point, I asked to talk to her supervisor. After a pause, she said, yes, and I was transferred to a number that rang and I was confronted with the dreaded menu again which finally led me to a number that rang and hung up. I called AppleCare back again, and was told it would be at least 15 minutes, so I just hung up again. I feel like a character stuck in a nightmarish Kafka novel.
This has been a hellish experience. Hours and hours of time, and tons of stress, and I’m nowhere. I have a serious chronic medical condition, and this stress is not doing me well.

I only had my 24" Alu for 3 days, but after reading these forums and from being in IT for 13 years, I just knew this was no Circuit Board or software issue. ****, just reading all the people that are having problems tells you this is no circuit board or software problem, especially when they are connecting a second display up to the external port which works fine, suggests there is a major flaw in the iMac screens.
It's a real shame too, because after using my dads White iMac 20", which is a dream to use, I was really looking forward to these new iMacs, but with this major screen flaw, it gives me a headache and I just wasn't going to accept this as normal, so took it back, checked the swap out machine which also had the problem and just got my Money back.
It appears Apple really need to take notice of this problem, because it could very much hurt them a lot, and it's quite possible what Apple needs right now is a good kick up the rear because they need to acknowledge this as a very real problem.
Not sure if you're from the UK or not Arielle, but I wonder how these screens would stand up to the Trade of Goods act, being that they are not fit for purpose, which is displaying a uniform picture at an acceptable brightness that can be achieved on a lot cheaper screen and PC combination.
I hope they are going to fix it, because I would like one, but if Apple aren't going to show any care for it, then I will end up getting a PC upgrade, which is something I didn't want to do.

  • Screen problem on iPad3

I have a screen problem with my iPad3. Something  has caused the screen to get extremely bright and all the colors to appear wrong. It's as if they have all reversed.  I have both restarted and reset it a number of times but it won't correct. All apps have been closed out completely. Operating system is 6.1. This has happened twice in the past but a reset corrected it. I have no idea what might have caused this either time. Any ideas for help would be appreciated.

  • IPod Nano 5th Gen Screen Problems

I have only been using my nano 5G for less than a month and I'm facing screen problems. Two horizontal lines appear about one centimeter from the bottom of the screen similar the where the older nano 4G screen borders. Anyone else faced this same problem? I really hate to have to put all my music back after getting it repaired.

When you reinstalled iTunes 8, did you use it on one of the newer 5th gen ipod Nanos, or a previous model ipod?
From all I'm reading everywhere, this new iTunes 9 is a real mess! I'm planning on re-installing back to
iTunes 8 soon ... I can't stand the slow speed and crappy user interface Apple did on this latest version. It looks like a bunch of high school kids put iTunes 9 together, definitely not an Apple quality
    product.

  • Why new firmware may be a good fix for screen problems

When I read on the Internet Thursday that some people had reported that the firmware had fixed their dark screen problems, I wondered if this was possible, and was this a good fix. I had taken my Touch to the Apple store earlier, and had the screen problem confirmed, but no exchange was possible at the moment, because the Touch was out of stock.
Where I work we have a number of small LCD screens that have a narrow viewing angle like the Touch, but being commercial monitors, also have knobs to control brightness and most importantly contrast. I started playing with the contrast and was surprised that I was able to exactly duplicate the problem my Touch had, just with contrast. The contrast adjustment on this narrow view LCD controlled viewing angle, and I could duplicate the negative image thing perfectly. I now had great hope that the firmware would in fact fix my Touch.
When I got home from work, I installed the firmware update to my week 36 Touch, and was thrilled to see all video issues gone. We need to remember that Apple has a lot more control over the LCD display through software than we have. We only have brightness! I mean if you had to adjust the contrast knob on your new computer monitor would you label the monitor as defective?
I believe that Apple knew by serial number which Touches needed adjustment to the video based on LCD origin, and applied them with this software. They merely tuned the contrast knob, and some other video settings that we don't have! (It would be nice if they added a contrast slider, and maybe color saturation level, to the brightness level already included!)
I have no intention of returning my Touch now for exchange, will count myself as lucky that my video got tweaked to perfection, and I have no dead pixels in my week 36 Touch. I understand that some people are never going to be happy with all of this, that in a perfect world everything would be great right out of the gate, all the time. But...
Enjoying my Touch a lot. A great gadget.
Now if we could only have those 3rd party applications!

This is true. With any LCD screen you can adjust contrast and color temperature which seem to be the combination working against week 36 and 37 owners. It makes sense Apple could control these settings through a software update. I suspect as you have stated, the 1.1.1 firmware upgrade does a serial check and selectively alters certain settings to compensate for the difference in the screens.
I say this because I still strongly suspect that Apple did change screens, screen coating or something in the hardware betweent he 37 and 38 lines (or early on in the 38 line) because there are reports with screen shots to confirm inconsistency int he effect of the 1.1.1 firmware update fixing the problem.
If the firmware update works for you, fantastic! If it does not then I would return it. If I recieved a week 36 and week 37 device from an on-line order I would return unopened to the nearest Apple store to avoid a restocking fee. If I didn't have an Apple store I would do the return through whoever I did the on-line order with.
The reason I would do this is that I am a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to displays. I feel like if I'm paying $300-$400 for one of these devices my desire to have the best screen would take priority over my need to own the device quickly, but that's just me.

  • What is the technical 'cause' of the infamous iMac black screen problem?

Can anybody shed some light on what technical malfunction exactly causes the infamous iMac black screen problem? The common solution seems to be a logic board replacement. But what exactly is broken on the logic board? Is it the Geforce chip? Some kind of external driver circuitry? Or something completely different?

I was referring to the many problems also described in this thread (and also in many other places):
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=196774&tstart=0
In specific I am referring to machines where all of this applies:
    - internal monitor stays black after power-on
    - computer boots normally

  • Early MacBook Pro (Week 8) screen problems

    Hi Everyone,
My MacBook is working great except for the hissing/whine from the screen - I know it is related to the screen because when I change the brightness to low the whine goes away - the screen also flickers when the brightness is down low. This MacBook is one of the earlier models from production (Week 8). I've been putting up with the whine because I use this Mac for work. I am wondering how long it takes to get your Mac back after sending it for service. Many thanks. I'll be calling Apple Service tonight.

I've had the same problem with a hissing/high pitch sound since I got my MacBook. It usually only happens with it is coming out of sleep or a low power state; which makes me wonder if the screen systems are drawing too much power. When I adjust the screen brightness to a lower level, the hiss goes away. I haven't had any other screen problems. However, sometimes the ambientlight sensor has a hard time remembering my custom keybaord backlight settings. Just some minor problems, but eventually I would like to see these issues resolved.
