Screen resets after init system is finished [solved]

Hi, how can i prevent the system from resetting the screen after booting up, so i can see the messages and all that stuff permanently?
I don't think it looks ugly and gentoo didn't reset it either. I checked some of the /etc/rc* files but found nothing..
Thanks in advance

It's done in /etc/issue. The escape code ^[[2J does a screen wipe (try it yourself (ctrl-v, escape, [, 2, J)).

  • After iTunes Update (10.3) mouse and keyboard settings reset after every system reboot

Since I updated to the iTunes version with cloud support (after Jobs' Keynote where the iCloud was introduced) my mouse and keyboard settings (see image) are being resetted on every system reboot.

I don't know if there is a connection between the update and the resetted settings.
Does anyone know a solution to fix this problem?

  • [SOLVED] config in /etc/systemd (ssh, getty) resets after system upgr.

I've made changes in /etc/systemd/system/getty.target.wants/[email protected] (don't clear console at boot as per https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … r_boot.3F) and /etc/systemd/system/sockets.target.wants/sshd.socket (changed ssh port) but they keep getting reset after a system upgrade (not sure by what package, pacman -Qo file says that no package owns them)
I'm starting to wonder if above places are the correct place and even way to do mentioned changes.
    What I want to achieve;
    1) simple way to not clear console after boot
    2) change what port ssh (systemd ssh socket) listens at
    3) make them changes permanent and durable even after a system upgrade
    My setup is pure systemd.

  • [SOLVED] GNOME login screen freezes after 3 seconds

    Hello,
today I installed Arch-Linux the first time. I had some issues during the installation (following https://wiki.archlinux.de/title/Anleitu … Einsteiger (its the german version, seems to differ a little from the english version)), but everything went good until I installed GNOME. Now the login screen freezes everytime after quite exactly 3 seconds, unless I press [strg]+[alt]+[f2] fast enough to switch in tty2. Then the screen will only freeze when I switch back to tty1. Once the screen is frozen, I can't switch to tty2 anymore.
I think the problem has something to do with my nvidia hybrid graphic system. During the installation I installed the packages bumblebee, bbswitch and primus, but uninstalled them because I thought they could be the problem. But although I uninstalled the packages, the "Stamina-Mode" status led is turned on after the system has started and the "Speed-Mode" status led not. I think that's a little bit strange, because I can't imagine which process is controlling these leds.
    So I ran just
    pacman -S xorg-drivers
and I had to create the xinitrc-file (because I could not find this file in /etc/skel). Now the default GUI appeared after I ran
    startx
(I saw some windows and a clock). After that I installed gnome, changed the xinitrc-file in my userhome and got the freeze after a reboot.
I don't know if it has anything to do with my problem, but I get the following error-messages everytime I boot:
[drm:ibx_irq_handler] *ERROR* PCH transcoder A FIFO underrun
[drm:intel_dp_start_link_train] *ERROR* too many full retries, give up
[drm:ilk_display_irq_handler] *ERROR* Pipe A FIFO underrun
interl ips 0000:00:1f.6: thermal reporting for required devices not enabled, aborting
    Hoeman
P.S.: Because I'm a total beginner at linux I probably missed the most important informations, but I can give you more if you tell me how

Ok, I could solve the problem myself by installing the latest nvidia driver. Now I guess the intel grahic card is not used anymore, but I don't really know...

You will need to do a DFU restore by holding the home and power buttons down (while the device is plugged in to your computer) until the device's screen goes black and as soon as the screen goes black, count down from 3 and release the power/sleep button, but keep holding down the home button. Then, iTunes will say the iPod needs to be restored. The restore process will take some time and even though the iPod may appear to be frozen, don't interrupt the restore.

To make sure that this is not software related, set it up as new device, explained in this article:

  • [Solved] Screen bug after display sleep

    Hi,
I have a Asus N55SF (Intel HD and Nvidia GT555M with Optimus).
When my screen wakes up after DPMS off (I mean only the screen suspend, not the system one), it's totally white, and I see leds becoming grey then black (like a cloud). Then it stays like this, the only way I found to make it working again is to put the computer in sleep mode and wake it up.
I can reproduce it, just waiting for the screen to turn off, or manually typing:
$ xset -display :0 dpms force off
    I found a similar issue here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions … ost4501106
    Any idea?

    Hello.
You'll probably have to add the printer again. You can do it like this:
System Preferences > Print & Scan. Click on the '+' icon and choose your printer.

  • Keyboard system preferences resetting after restart

    Greetings,
I began with 2 similar problems.  My menu bar and keyboard system preferences would reset after each startup.  I fixed the former with https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6028346?tstart=0
Still, every time I restart or logout my keyboard system preferences reset to the default.  These defaults interfere with the software I run- Logic & Pro Tools, so while not the worst thing to have to remember to reset them each time, it is a drag.
    Any help will be appreciated
    Thanks

The procedure below will reset the permissions of a user's home folder in OS X 10.7.4 or later, including 10.8 or later. If you're running an earlier version of 10.7, update to the latest version first. This procedure should not be used under OS X versions older than 10.7.4.
Back up all data before you begin.
    Step 1
Click the Finder icon in the Dock. A Finder window will open.
    Step 2
Press the following key combinations, in the order given:
    Command-3
    Shift-command-H
Command-I (the letter "I" as in "Info.")
The Info window of your home folder will open.
    Step 3
Click the lock icon in the lower right corner and authenticate with the name and login password of an administrator on the system. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
    Step 4
In the Sharing & Permissions section of the window, verify that you have "Read & Write" privileges. If not, use the "+" and "-" buttons in the lower left corner to make the necessary changes.
    Step 5
By default, the groups "staff" and "everyone" have "Read Only" privileges. With those settings, the files at the top level of your home folder will be readable by other local users. You can change the privileges to "No Access" if you wish, but then your Public and Drop Box folders will be inaccessible to others. Most likely, you don't need to change these settings.
    Step 6
If there are entries in the Sharing & Permissions list for users or groups other than "me," "staff," and "everyone," delete them.
    Step 7
Click the gear icon at the bottom of the Info window and select Apply to enclosed items... from the drop-down menu. Confirm. The operation may take several minutes to complete. When it does, close the Info window.
