[SOLVED] config in /etc/systemd (ssh, getty) resets after system upgr.

I've made changes in /etc/systemd/system/getty.target.wants/[email protected] (don't clear console at boot as per https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … r_boot.3F) and /etc/systemd/system/sockets.target.wants/sshd.socket (changed ssh port) but they keep getting reset after a system upgrade (not sure by what package, pacman -Qo file says that no package owns them)
I'm starting to wonder if above places are the correct place and even way to do mentioned changes.
What I want to achieve;
1) simple way to not clear console after boot
2) change what port ssh (systemd ssh socket) listens at
3) make them changes permanent and durable even after a system upgrade
My setup is pure systemd.

  • [SOLVED] How to cancel systemd-fsck during reboot after power failure.

    Hello
If power fails (or if I, for any reason, force a physical shutdown ) on my computer, it will display during boot :
systemd-fsck[171] : arch_data was not cleanly unmounted, check forced
And then hangs for a long time (10 minutes ) while checking arch_home partition, wich is a 1T ext4 partition.
    then finish the boot.
Sometimes i want this behavior, but i may need to have my computer up and running as fast as possible, and i don't seem to be able to cancel this fsck.
Ctrl+C, or escape have no effect.

Maybe you can add a menu item to the grub boot menu so you can pick it from the menu instead of editing the grub line by hand?
I'm using syslinux, but I can have menu items that only differ in e.g. 'quiet' parameter:
    APPEND root=/dev/sda3 rw init=/usr/lib/systemd/systemd quiet
    APPEND root=/dev/sda3 rw init=/usr/lib/systemd/systemd
    Everything else is the same.

  • [Solved] systemd[1]: getty@tty7.service.d/autologin.conf

I've been using Automatic login to virtual console for some time, using "[email protected]".
Today I tried the new way, which looks much cleaner.
    cat /etc/systemd/system/[email protected]/autologin.conf
    [Service]
    ExecStart=
    ExecStart=-/sbin/agetty --autologin leo --noclear %I 38400 linux
    Type=
    Type=simple
At startup I get the error:
systemd[1]: [/etc/systemd/system/[email protected]/autologin.conf:4] Failed to parse service type, ignoring:
The only difference I can see is that I use tty7; I start Xorg from zprofile. (I'm old fashioned that way)
I could just drop the "Type=simple" altogether, but since it is in the wiki, I thought I would ask here first.
Last edited by Leo Laursen (2013-06-06 17:58:33)

There is no need to add Type=, because Type is valid only one time in an unit. Instead for ExecStart=, since is valid to add more than one, If you need to clear all previous commands, then you need to specify ExecStart= in blank first.
This is what I done in archiso

  • [SOLVED] Systemd stuck at "Starting File system check"

    Hi all
    Backstory
    My hardware:
Mobo: Gigabyte X99 2011v3 with UEFI and dual bios.
GFX: MSI GTX 970 4GB Gaming OC
HDD: Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SSD
    CPU: intel 5820k
I have been using arch for about 2 years now. I recently bought new hardware, Gigabyte X99 motherboard uefi dual bios. I have tried a couple of times to install arch the old way, i.e. legacy mode or normal bios mode, however after a successful install, when I reboot my bios says "Select Proper Boot Device". Then I decided to put everything in UEFI mode and install arch using the uefi install disc. At first, I was not very successful, because I followed the arch wiki to the bone but when it comes to UEFI, instructions are a bit vague. In any case, I managed to install Arch and get uefi to work 100% by using this guide http://jorisvandijk.com/2014/installing … pt-system/ .
    Problem
After installing arch successfully using UEFI mode, arch starts booting up, everything shows [OK] at the side, no errors, however, it hangs after a line that reads "Starting File system check ". I am not at home right now, however I thought I could start troubleshooting and maybe get some ideas.
    I have tried the following.
    - Chrooted back into my arch install using the live cd and mounting my partitions.
    - Updated and synced pacman.
    - Removed all journal log files.
    - reinstalled Systemd.
    - rebuilt kernel modules.
none of the above worked. It still hangs at "Starting fiel system check"
    Any ideas.
    SOLUTION
    Solved by using
    nolapic
Still had other problems after that, however, the initial problem was solved.

    Hi Jason,
thx for your help so far. I have printed out the Arch beginners install and followed it to the bone and focusing on the UEFI parts. Arch installed without a single error, everything went smooth. Aftwerwards, I exited from the chroot environmount, unmount and reboot and again, it hangs on the startup. This time I took screenshots.
I present to the board, exhibit A, arch starting up after a fresh install :
    http://oi61.tinypic.com/2m4x82o.jpg
I now present to the board, exhibit B, arch starting up for a second time, after restarting the pc :
    http://oi59.tinypic.com/10ehvki.jpg
Afterwards, I restarted again. Went into bios setup and checked my boot priorities. This is what I saw:
I now present exhibit C, my bios boot options :
    http://oi62.tinypic.com/24ys0bd.jpg
I tried all the options listed for my Samsung SSD, with and without UEFI as well as the option that was the default aka Linux boot manage". Each one did exactly the same.
    I have a few ideas :
    1.) Leave out swap.
    2.) Disable fscheck.
3.) I have a feeling that my SSD is reading/writing too fast and that fscheck is having trouble ?
I am now trying option 1. In other words, I am reinstalling arch, again, following the beginners guide to the bone and focusing specifically on the UEFI parts. This time, I am leaving out swap. (I have 16GB of DDR4 memory). I have about a 70% feeling that the outcome will be the same. However, I will be back after that to comment on the outcome. Please leave feedback and help me through this where you can ! Thanks

  • [XFCE]Keyboard layout config sometimes gets reset after suspend/resume

After I got suspend/resume working thanks to the help here, I have still another little problem with it: After suspend/resume the keyboard layout configuration in the corresponding xfce-panel plugin is sometimes reset to US. The keyboard layout should be Russian/German with switching the layouts with LCtrl+LShift. In the xorg.conf everything is fine, but it seems to be disregarded:
    Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "Keyboard0"
    Driver "kbd"
    Option "XkbRules" "xorg"
    Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
    Option "XkbLayout" "de,ru"
    Option "XkbVariant" ",winkeys"
    Option "XkbOptions" "grp:ctrl_shift_toggle"
    EndSection
The settings that I make in the panel-applet via its configuration dialogue work though, but they sometimes get reset after a suspend/resume.
The XFCE session is started via following command in ~/.xinitrc:
    exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch xfce4-session
    Thanks for any hint,
    PhotonX

I see. Then you should maybe add debug output to check whether the script is run at all and if yes, where it fails. Like
    button/lid)
echo "lid action caught" >> /home/lid.log
    case "$3" in
    close)
    logger 'LID closed'
    # Suspend and lock the screen
    /usr/sbin/pm-suspend &
    DISPLAY=:0.0 su -c - miki /usr/bin/slimlock
    echo "lid closed" >> /home/lid.log
    open)
    logger 'LID opened'
    # Set the keyboard layout again on IT
    setxkbmap it
    echo "lid opened" >> /home/lid.log
    logger "ACPI action undefined: $3"
echo "something wrong happened" >> /home/lid.log
    esac
and then check /home/lid.log after lid close&open.

  • [Solved] Problems with net-auto-wired, no interent after install

    *Background*
I am returning to Arch Linux after being away for about a year. I have finally had a chance to install Arch on my new laptop. Since I am new to systemd and the new installation process I followed the beginners guide very closely.
*Description of the Steps I followed and the Error I encountered*
When I came the the "Configure the Network" Portion of the Beginners' Guide, I chose to follow the net-auto-wired setup. This was partly because I found the warning to be confusing and could not understand why the Guide included a command that "won't work". Additionally I the "net-auto-wired" method seemed given the language of the Guide to be the superior alternative. So I followed the following steps:
    # pacman -S ifplugd
    # cd /etc/network.d
    # ln -s examples/ethernet-dhcp .
    # systemctl enable net-auto-wired.service
These commands returned no errors, nor did the net-auto-wired daemon fail to initialize on reboot. I simply did not have a connection with the internet, even after confirming that all the wires were securely plugged in.
    *Question for the Forum*
I was able to establish a connection with via several means as well I will likely be installing dbus and wicd to manage my internet connections. So my question is less about how to get connected and more (a) how to trouble shoot net-auto-wired and (b) what language and procedures can we change to the Beginners' Guide so that this issue is not encountered by beginners in the future.
    *Information I have Uncovered*
When the net-auto-wired daemon failed to establish a connection. I immediately tried running the following command:
    # systemctl enable [email protected]
The output of this command (what is following) showed me what the warning was talking about, how it rename the symbolic link to eth0.service and not enp4s0f2.service as it should have.
    ln -s '/usr/lib/systemd/system/[email protected]' '/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/[email protected]'
I attempted to resolve this issue by creating the symbolic link with the following command
    # ln -s /usr/lib/systemd/system/[email protected] /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/[email protected]
After reboot, the appropriately started the dhcpcd@ deamon and established an internet connection.
It also hit me that the netcfg profile "ethernet-dhcp" would be pointing to the wrong interface. I edited the profile to interface with the enp4s0f2 not eth0 and was able to establish a connection manually with the following command but net-auto-wired still failed to work.
    # netcfg ethernet-dhcp
At this point I checked the status of the of the net-auto-wired daemon with the following command which uncovered what is most certainly the issue.
    # systemctl status net-auto-wired
net-auto-wired.service - Provides automatic netcfg wired connection
    Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/net-auto-wired.service; disabled)
Active: active (running) since Thu 2013-01-24 14:47:12 EST; 36s ago
    Main PID: 421 (ifplugd)
    CGroup: name=systemd:/system/net-auto-wired.service
    421 /usr/bin/ifpluged -i eth0 -r /etc/ifplugd/netcfg.action -fIns
Jan 24 14:47:12 ragnarok systemd[1]: Started Provides automatic netcfg wired connection.
    Jan 24 14:47:12 ragnarok ifplugd[421]: ifplugd 0.28 initializing.
    Jan 24 14:47:12 ragnarok ifplugd[421]: Using interface eth0
Jan 24 14:47:12 ragnarok ifplugd[421]: Initalization complete, link beat not detected.
Obviously the issues with this are it use of eth0 and not enp4s0f2.
I do not know where to go from here but I am curious if the issue of dhcpcd@ misnaming the symlink is some how related to this issue.
Thanks for all your insight and responses.
PS. This is the third time I have written this post. I finally typed it out in a separate text editor and then copied it in. Twice my login has timed out before I could submit and thus when I submitted I was logged out and my post lost. I do not post often with the forums but I was just frustrated to have lost so much effort. Has anyone else encountered this?

Yes, it seems that after a period of inactivity (5 minutes ?) the forum software automatically logs someone out.
After that happened to me for the zillionth time, i installed the firefox addon ReloadEvery .
Now i always open 2 tabs for arch forums : 1 that just shows the index, and has reloadevery enabled with a time of 1 minute.
The 2nd tab is for reading/answering etc.
Haven't been logged out automatically since.

Since I updated to the iTunes version with cloud support (after Jobs' Keynote where the iCloud was introduced) my mouse and keyboard settings (see image) are being resetted on every system reboot.
image: this is how I want my settings, but they're resetted to system standard when I reboot my MBP
I don't know if there is a connection between the update and the resetted settings.
Does anyone know a solution to fix this problem?
