Screen resolution yet again

Although this forum has taught me a lot about screen
resolutions, view ports
etc. I am still struggling.
I am on a broadscreen laptop with screen resolution 1440 x
900 - at the moment
perhaps uncommon, but possibly gaining popularity.
I have a relativeley positioned div containing an absoluteley
positioned div,
that has an image in it, all in a table with fixed width.
The image in the absolute pos. div shifts as I change the
view port. Why is
that? I would expect it to always sit the specified px's away
from the
container div.
http://www.spinsister.nl/blog/index.php
, I am talking about the two pictures
in the entry 'Vanuit de verte', at the moment at the top of
the page.)
Sorry to have to ask about this yet again. I read Nadia's
article several times
and thought I understood, but obviously don't.
Regards,
Adriana.

Anyhow, you need a) to validate the page, and b) to put a
valid and complete
doctype on it so that you get out of quirks mode.
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="#ffffff"><table width="770">
<tr>
<td valign="top" bgcolor="#ffffff"><div
id="entryview">
This is clearly invalid code, as is this -
</tr>
</tr>
Also, you have HTML in your CSS files (there should only be
CSS in CSS
files) -
<style type="text/css">
I see what you are experiencing, and my experience tells me
that something
on the page is working in ways that you don't expect.
Personally, I
wouldn't use a table-based layout at all, but I realize you
are already
committed to it. Also, try adding borders to this rule -
.gallerycontainer{
position: relative;
/*Add a height attribute and set to largest image's height to
prevent
overlaying*/
and you'll see that it's not being expressed at all. That's
likely the
source of your problem.

  • My AT&T Yahoo email gives me an error message saying that my screen resolution is too low, but it is at 1600 x 900. This only happens in Firefox, not in IE.

    When I try to use Firefox to access my ATT.NET account I get an error message about my screen resolution being to low to support the site.My resolution is not low its at the highest available. I also use IE9 and do not have this problem. I am running Windows 7 and Firefox 15.0.1. This has been an ongoing problem. I am using a Toshiba laptop 15.6 screen with 4GB RAM. I see other complaints about this specific problem but have yet to find a solution. Thanks for your help.

    Please see added comments on the question. Its not a zoom issue its all about the new ATT design email and Firefox, I agree with Noah there a bug between the old and the new and firefox only.
    UPDATE:
    I stand corrected. I went back in again and did the reset zoom and it appears to eliminate the error. Problem solved but I am not sure why I never set up zoom and didn't have the problem on any other site. Will it need to be done each and every time I go into that page or is it now corrected?

  • T420 Screen Resolution Change Issue

    My T420 laptop is capable of 1600 X 900 screen resolution. After changing the resolution temporarily to 1024 X 768,
    I tried to change it back a couple of hours later to 1600 X 900. However, now I do not even see 1600 X 900 as an option.
    The highest option is its' current setting of 1024 X 768. Can someone tell me how I can get the 1600 X 900 resolution to show up
    again as an option so I can change the screen resolution back to its' factory setting? I do not know what could have happened
    except for maybe a windows update took place before I attempted to change the screen resolution back. Any help
    would be greatly appreciated.

    hey Quinn,
    welcome to the forums. could you check the graphic card version on your unit and compare it to the version available on http://support.lenovo.com .
    is it the same or is the one on the support site ? If both of it is the same, uninstall the graphic driver from your unit and then download the driver from our support site.
    do not install it yet, set your unit to diagnostic mode via msconfig first and then only install.

  • Minimum Screen Resolution for Premiere Pro CS3

    I want to be able to run the package on my laptop when out and about, but the
    screen resolution is only 1024 x 768. Can anyone tell me whether it will run under said resolution, but with a crowded screen or will it simply not work. I have not yet bought the product yet, and this could be a deciding factor.
    Thanks in advance for any help.
    Maurice

    That's what I am running and it has been awesome over the last two days with the only exception being a "Desktop Display Mode has been reset because the video card returned an error." I thought I had this problem licked until I got it again this afternoon and now it won't go away.

  • Problem with AE CS5 and laptop screen resolution during install..

    Hello everyone,
    I bought AE and I am very disappointed.  When I went to install the  application, I got the following errors and it stopped installing.
    Exit Code: 7
    -------------------------------------- Summary  --------------------------------------
    - 0 fatal error(s), 54 error(s), 52 warning(s)
    WARNING: Display requirements not met for  {DA1B174B-4297-467C-9EF8-0AB8D4D5171E}
    WARNING: Payload cannot be installed due to dependent operation  failure
    My max screen resolution is 1366x768 and the requirement is  1280x1024.
    I don't plan on buying a screen that large.  Is there a fix for  this? perhaps editing the registry? I won't mind the small work area.  I  can manage.  does AE CS4 have this resolution requirement?  I have an  opengl capable graphics card in my laptop so I don't think that is an  issue here. any help would be much appreciated. thanks

    ok I think I was able to bypass the " Display requirements not met for {DA1B174B-4297-467C-9EF8-0AB8D4D5171E}" error during install. I hooked up an exteral monitor with the required resolution and I did not see that error message again.  However, I am still getting the following error messages
    <code>
    WARNING: Payload cannot be installed due to dependent operation failure
    </code>
    could it be that my graphics card does not support opengl? how can I make sure it supports opengl 2.0?
    the graphics card that I have is an integraded intel media graphics accelerator.  I am quite sure it would support opengl2.0. any thoughts? thanks
    My brother has a screen resolution of 1240x780 and yet he was able to install AE CS5 without any errors at all.  He has an ATI mobility Raedon Graphics card.  whats up with that? also, he cannot hear any sound from avi videos in AE.  He has tried everything even raising the decibals level in the track.

  • Anyone have their iPhone 6 screen replaced yet?

    has anyone had to have their Iphone 6 screen replaced yet at an Apple Store? Was it pain free? How fast was it?

    I hope yours doesn't break anytime soon. Because I have found out that no one can repair them yet locally at least. unless you send them to Apple.
    After leaving dinner 2 nights ago  My iPhone 6 dropped out of my pocket as I was getting into my car.  It was less than 2 feet and I had a case on my phone and still my screen shattered. I have to say I was  really shocked that it even broke. My iPhone 5 was dropped dozens of times on all kinds of hard surfaces and never broke.
    I figured that I would get it take care of if I called Verizon the next day, but they told me they couldn't do anything. Then I remembered the local Apple store helped me last year when my suspend button wasn't working on my 5 and those Apple guys made myself, a cautious and doubtful customer walk out very happy with my first experience with Apple. I really didn't expect to have had a resolution when I went, but I did and they exceeded my expectations and I told my friends how great the Apple store and support was.
    So I called the store and was put on hold, after waiting a a couple of minutes to talk to someone, I figured I would just create an appointment and take  an hour lunch, so I could get there, and see if the local Apple store could fix my iPhone 6. I figured I didn't need to call. Why wouldn't they be able to help me?
    So I made it to the local Apple and met with one of the  Employees and showed him my iPhone 6 which had  tape and a screen protector on it to keep the glass from falling  apart. The employee told me that they could replace the screen for $109, that was great news, only  the store didn't have the equipment to fix it yet and probably wouldn't for a couple weeks, but If I wanted they would swap mine for a new one for $299. Unfortunately I didn't have the money to shell out for that, I just got the my iPhone 6 the other week. The guy said well if you can live with it just check back in a week or 2 and hopefully they will have the equipment. Needless to say I left there a little disappointed.
    I really needed to get my phone fixed. When I got back to the office I called around and found that nobody could repair them yet.  The guy at Batteries Plus even said that he hoped that they would be able to repair them soon, because he already had people calling and stopping by wanting to get the iPhone 6 screens repaired.
    I figured I wasn't going to give up. I thought that maybe if I get in touch with the someone directly through Apple.com, there might be another solution.  I got in touch with them through the chat support  and I could send it in for repair. I told them that I only have one phone and I can't send it in and and be with out a phone for 5-7 day while my screen is fixed. I felt like this script went back and forth a little bit and then I was told once again that I could send it in and have it fixed and that I could just use another phone. I had to once again tell her I didn't have another phone and that I just traded my iPhone 5 in to get the iPhone 6 and had I know that I was going to have these kind of problem I would have just kept my iPhone 5. I thanked her for her help and told her that I was getting frustrated.
    I was told the she was going to transfer me to her supervisor. I was told by Ali, "The Supervisor" that he was reviewing the chat and he would be right with me. I thought great he will see what has already transpired and hopefully I can get my phone fixed without having to send it in. Nope same script as the girl before.  I was also told to try another Apple store an hour away from me and maybe they could replace my screen. I am sorry, but maybe they could replace it? These are Apple stores! How is it that Apple does not know whether one of its store can fix my screen or not. So I am a  little more frustrated.  I told them I work 11-12 hour a day 6 days a week. At some point I was told something like I could pay $299 then I would get reimbursed after it was fixed and only end up paying $109. Really It was some crap like that. I guess he missed were I said I didn't have $299 otherwise I would have replaced it at the store.
    Really though by this time I was done, the frustration was not worth it. I figured my phone is taped up no more shards of glass to fall off or stick to my finders. I will wait until whenever they finally get the equipment that they need at my local Apple store to repair my screen.  You guys probably should have had that equipment ready at stores when the iPhone 6 was released.
    Good Luck!

  • Using Mini DisplayPort to VGA, screen resolution distorts.  How do I fix?

    When I use my Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter, the resolution gets too big for my screen (mbpro 15") and the same thing appears on the projector I use. I'm not sure if I should change my screen resolution while I use the projector or what?
    Also, the first (and only) time I used it, it seemed as if the signal wouldn't even send. After a while of fiddling around, the screen finally showed up on the projector (distorted) but we didn't do anything different to change that. It just kind of did it on it's own. Is this common for "first uses" or will this happen every time?
    I plan on using this again Friday.

  • Xorg 1.6, nvidia and screen resolutions

    I just upgraded to xorg 1.6 from testing, including the nvidia drivers and kernel from testing.  Everything is working great (and it fixed the libxi keyboard layout problems I was having), except that I can no longer select the screen resolution I want from the nvidia-settings application.  The set of resolutions is very limited and I'm getting a horizontal stretch due to an incorrect aspect ratio.
    I've tried manually adjusting the xorg.conf file after saving it in nvidia-settings, but it makes a mess of the file and I couldn't get it working.  Does anybody know how to add screen resolutions into the nvidia-settings application?
    Thank you!
    Darin

    Happened to me with most recent 1.5 update, I downgraded back to previous one to get working again. And now same happened with 1.6, this time I downgrade again without any further testing until someone else gets it solved

  • [SOLVED] Updating Xorg screwed up my screen-resolution.

    After doing pacman -Syu earlier this evening, my screen-resolution was screwed up. One of the packages that was updated by pacman -Syu was X to 1.7.1-1 and all of its depencies.
    I downgraded xorg (and its dependencies) to 1.6.3.901-1 and after that everything is working fine again.
    I'm trying to figure out why the update failed, but to be honest I don't know where to look for clues. The only thing I can come up with is that maybe it would be better to update X without X running.
    Before I try this solution I need some feedback on this. So if you could please give your comments/advise towards the following issues:
    1. Is it better to update X without X running?
    2. Where would I have to look for clues to find out why the update of X failed?
    Thxs.

    I have a similiar problem except that my X hang the whole computer. I have an Intel card and maybe thats the reason for the hang. To answer 1., I did my upgrade without X running, so that doesn't prevent bad things from happening. I downgraded to the previous version, as you did, and now everything is working again.
    With respect to 2., I looked into Xorg log and found nothing relevant to this problem.

  • Windows XP Pro Desktop - Screen Resolution and Color Quality

    When synchronizing my Zire after many successful and no problems the XP Pro screen resolution reverted to the lowest profile.
    I can reset the resolution to the True color 1024 x 768 but after a minute or two it reverts again.
    1. Reinstalled driver for Intel video on Compaq D510C motherboard and get same problems as well as corrupted looking graphics on screen.
    2. Switched to a known good monitor and same problems (which I did not think was the problem but did to verify).
    3. Installed new gForce5200fx graphics card and video still reverts and is corrupted looking even when in higher reset resolution.
    4. Created new user to see if user profile was corrupted and still reverts and is corrupted looking even when in higher reset resolution.
    Any suggestions?????

  • Is there any way to change the screen resolution in Front Row?

    Hi all,
    I've got a Mac Mini plugged in to my TV, and I want to be able to change the screen resolution depending on the content I'm watching (as some content is in 4:3 aspect ratio, some is in 16:9, and I'd prefer to have the picture filling the screen completely). Unfortunately, the TV doesn't have a "stretch" mode for making an 4:3 picture fit a 16:9 aspect ratio. If I know what I want to watch in advance, I can set the resolution accordingly using system prefs on the mac, but if I'm just sitting back choosing what to watch with the Apple Remote, it's annoying to have to leave front row, walk over to the computer and change resolution once I've decided what to watch, open system prefs, change resolution, re-launch Front Row and find what I wanted to watch again.
    So I was wondering if anyone had figured a way to allow the screen resolution to be switched from within the FrontRow UI. I've seen that people have written python based plug-ins such as PyeTV and Understudy that allow different types of content to be added to FrontRow, but I've not found any utility plug-ins such as what I'm looking for on the net (nor could I find SDK documentation on this API in the stuff that comes with XCode).
    I guess the other approach might be quick keys: has anyone had any success hooking up quick keys macros alongside front row in response to apple remote events? (seems too few events to be able to choose from, but I've never tried it, so I won't assume!) Or how about is there a way to trigger an AppleScript from within Front Row? And, of course, I'm very open to any other ideas you might have!
    Thanks very much in advance for any ideas on this.

  • Screen resolution in Windows XP

    Hi all,
    I have a iMac 24", with a screen resolution of 1920x1200. I installed Windows XP with Bootcamp. The problem I have now is in Windows, the highest possible choice for screen resolution is 1600x1200 which doesn't look good at all.
    How do I change that into 1920x1200?
    I am a complete newbie when it comes to windows so help is appreciated. (I only installed it to run SolidWorks during work).
    Thanks,
    Veronica

    Hi Veronica,
    just to rule ou the obvious:
    Have you installed the BootCamp Windows Drivers from the OSX DVD yet ?
    If not, while in Windows pop in the OSX DVD and the Driver Installation should start automatically.

  • Screen Resolutions in OSX 10.8

    Maybe someone can help, but if not - Apple, please sort this out, I've read complaints all over the net going back years...
    Screen Resolutions. This isn't difficult Apple. The video card in my 2008 Mac Pro (a geforce somethignorother) can display all manner of resolutions - pretty much anything under 25**x1*** (whatever that res is) is supported. I know this because nvidia state as much on their website, and also because every single video card since the beginning of time (which, for me and computers, was circa 1996) can do it.
    So why, when I connect a 24" Acer LCD screen (with a native resolution of 1920x1200) via VGA (vga because it's what I've got running under the floor) do the video resolution options in OSX only include 4:3 and 16:9 formats? I don't want 1920x1080. It's pathetic. My 2006 mac pro running 10.5 has no such problem. This 2008 Mac pro had no such problem while running 10.6 a few years ago.
    Here's another example. After giving up with the 24" Acer (being advised to BUY a bit of software to access a resolution is ridiculous), I plugged in my 32" Sony LCD screen, again via VGA. This was interesting. Sony on their website stated that 1360x768 was the highest resolution accessable via VGA, despite the TV supporting 1920x1080 via digital inputs. As soon as OSX detects the TV then surely, 1360x768 is the highest offered resolution. But, if I boot the computer without the TV being on, then switch the TV on, I can set it to 1920x1080, and all is well. Work that one out Sony. A combination of Sony trying to limit their cheap tvs, and Apple interfering.
    Anyway, my basic argument and complaint is this: I hate little more than computers that think they're smarter than the user. Even if we disgard the Sony example (which is doubtless a line of code written in the TV, rather than a technical limitation (as I own the 37" version of the TV, and it works at 1080p via VGA no probs - doubt they've engineered two different VGA circuits...)) - there is no excuse for OSX wrongly detecting a screen and displaying incorrect resolutions. Have an idiot mode by all means, but let me adjust the resolution beyond that. Give me access to all resolutions at all times.

    Apple doesn't routinely monitor these discussions.
    Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Photoshop CS5 Screen Resolution

    <START OF RANT>
    Having recently decided to upgrade all my design software, I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I was (and still am) to find that after spending £231.12 GBP on buying Photoshop CS5 (upgrade from CS2) I'm unable to "Save As" and access some other features on my Acer Ferrari One due to the minimum screen resolution requirement. And before you start preaching that I should have checked, blah, blah, blah, and that it's my own fault then I only have 2 words for you: F*** O**!!! Why am I reacting like this? Simples, both Photoshop CS2 and Dreamweaver CS5 (for a mere £219.95 GBP) work fine on the very same netbook without any problems!!!
    Having spent hours upon hours browsing the tinternet (a.k.a. world wide web) and finding countless of people in the same boat as me making futile attempts to get Photoshop CS5 to work on a smaller screen resolution (the most common being 1024x600), it seems that short of changing the screen it will not work properly.
    Allow me therefore to put the following questions to the developers/coders of Photoshop CS5:
    1. Why do Photoshop CS2 and Dreamweaver CS5 work on the same netbook without fail yet Photoshop CS5 won't (unable to "Save As", can't see full screen of the "Save for Web" screen, etc.)?! WHY??? And please don't start with the lame excuse that they are different programs for different purposes because at the end of the day it's the same company. You don't buy a Mercedes C-Class and a Mercedes S-Class to find that the steering works on 1 but not the other, do you?!
    2. Are your heads so far up your place where the sun don't shine that you have forgotten about the fact that people FIRST pick a PC/Mac/Laptop/Notebook/Netbook and ONLY THEN PICK SOFTWARE?
    3. Do you want people to keep buying your software?
    If the answer to question 3 (above) is YES, then PULL YOUR FINGERS OUT, get your act together and do something about these issues, pronto. Else, rest assured you will lose custom to the competition (e.g Corel) - even loyalists like myself (who started & stuck with Photoshop since 1997 - that's 14 YEARS OF LOYALTY should one be incapable of doing the math). In this day & age any company would be wise not to make mistakes which could cost it market share - Adobe is making that mistake with Photoshop right now!!!
    </END OF RANT!!!>

    <Start of Reply>
    Why are trying to get Photoshop work on a display that is smaller then the programs was designed for. Adobe publishes screen requirements.  Next you'll want it to run on a iPod Nano so you can have it on hand all the time.
    <Just keep on RANTING if it make you feel GOOD>
    CS2 Works the Problem is all YOU
    So same to you and you foul mouth.
    Why blame Adobe Why not your net book maker fot not allowing you to set a resolution more then the display has. I have worked on machines the could the just scroll the display over the larger image that way you can see the whole image.  CS5 would work on a machine like that. Of course I want it always at hand!!! Do you even live in this world?! Have you noticed for example that phones have better cameras than the best camera available en masse 5 years ago let alone longer e.g. 10 years ago? Note how small it is!!!
    Of course I want to edit my pictures using the program of my choice and 14 years ago I did make that choice choosing PS, hence the decision to purchase the Acer Ferrari One - CS2 works like a charm.
    As to the point that I'm problematic, please read my post carefully before making statements that make you come across as foolish.
    Hobotor wrote:
    1. Serious ps users make sure their hardware meets their program's system requirements.
    2. If you decide to buy you bigger Mercedes and it won't fit into your garage anymore, I'd say that's your own fault.
    3. ALL software evolves, if you insist on using your old hardware, stick with the programs that were built to run on your old gear.
    1. OLD Hardware?! Please do your homework before replying. The Acer Ferrari One was released beginning of last year and is a top of the range netbook - more powerful than any netbook out there and any laptop that is over 2 years old. FACT! Even some of the new laptops benchmarked could not out-do this little beast. FACT!
    2. Unless one is buying a Mercedes Van or Truck it will fit in the garage (even the ML320 fits) - CS2 fits and so do other Adobe CS3 & CS4 products. So why not the PS CS5 - its no a Van or Truck. In fact it's more comparable to an S-Class.
    3. Hardware also evolves - it's getting smaller and more powerful. I could run PS on the water-cooled, Phenom X4 & NVidia GeForce 9800 GX2 powered stationary PC connected to a 32" LCD by HDMI, running Linux Mint 10 x64/Windows 7 x64 (dual boot) with MacOS X running virtually by use of VMWare on both. Instead I choose to be mobile editing my pics as soon as I have taken them (patience is not always a virtue)! As humans we also need to evolve and judging by most of the replies so far it's not looking good for human evolution (albeit some replies do make valid & intelligent arguments and are as such well received).

    It would of course be better to maintain decorum, though, even while ranting.  But does a rant really demand a sharp response?  Rise above it and just don't say anything if you really have nothing to add.
    To Julian:  You should return the software for a refund ASAP before you're stuck with it for good.

    You are right: I do mean to offend Adobe and hope they are offended!!! However, do accept my apologies for losing composure (and my manners along with it). Unfortunately, in this day and age it seems to be the only way to reach the audience of those who can assist with problem resolution of this kind. That is of course unless the very same decide to provide the PS CS5 source code which would enable me to address the issue at hand without the need to contact Adobe or rant.

Photoshop is a professional image editing application used by professionals. Professionals do not pick up a cheap low-power netbook to do their image editing. Casting the concept of 'professional' aside, Adobe expects buyers to be literate to notice the system requirements prior to paying large sums.
    If all that you are doing is web design, you should be using GIMP, which is free, requires much less resources, and is better suited for preparing web images (PNG8 with alpha anyone?).
    RE: rants... GIGO
    In fact, it would be better for you not to speak at all considering your assumptious and pompous nature. Adobe will pay attention to this post as long as it attracts traffic (you can find a simple explanation of the term 'traffic' in this context using this link). As to your ideology of the professional image editor, it is of little interest here and beside the point. Thus, please refrain from participating any further in this discussion while not in a capacity to speak on behalf of Adobe or offer anything other than remarkable insights into what one should or should not use for image editing.
    If I have not replied to anyone, please accept my apologies - I will find the time to do so another day but I wouldn't want miss Love Never Dies at the Adelphi now would I.
    Good night and good luck

  • Yahoo is giving screen resolution error for my Sony Vaio laptop at 1600 x 900

    My laptop display had no screen resolution problem before upgrading to 3.6.10. The error states I should set to 1024 x 768 pixel resolution. This is less than that I already have. I don't understand why this occurs.
