Screen Sharing: Mouse click is reversed

I keep getting a problem when controlling another Mac via Screen Sharing where normal (left) clicking the mouse will right click on the computer I'm sharing (i.e. I'll click on a folder with the left button, but instead of selecting the folder the context menu will pop up).
Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know how to fix this?

Yes. I ought have stated originally that I don't have this problem all the time. It just seems to happen randomly. If I relaunch Finder it fixes it for a while.

  • When screen sharing,  mouse tracking preference returns to default

This happens when I launch ScreenSharing from a 10.9 machine and connect to a 10.10.2 machine.
When screen sharing,  mouse loses tracking prefernce on the machine being shared (10.10.2). It's a pain to have to go into preferences and reset the tracking to what I want. The other mosue controls are not affected.

thanks tjk. i had done all of the searches to no avail. i had only recently thought about repairing permission and tried that this morning. it didn't find much but perhaps something in there has been the cause. time will tell. besides this, i have done/tried about anything i could think of which is why i've started to wonder about a complete reinstall of the Apple USB drivers in case something there was messed up. however i'm not quite to a level on Mac tech support yet to quite know how to go about doing that.

  • IChat Screen Sharing mouse problems

I just bought a new iMac 20" for my mom for xmas with the thought that the iChat screen sharing will help me to remotely configure her system.
I am finding that once I have initiated the screen share I am have erratic mouse behavior. When I am sharing her screen and moving the mouse the cursor will jump around the screen. this happens even worse if I am click-dragging a window around.
Is there any way to improve this performance? At work I use Windows remote desktop with no issues such as this, and I would expect the same performance from OSX.
    Thanks

My first thought is that your mother is also trying to control the mouse.
I presume though you have exclude this.
iChat Screen Sharing does include an Audio component so the computer is doing an Audio chat at the same time effectively. This will have a impact on the processor usage particularly over the way iChat A/V chats use the processor. (they tend to dip in and out to spread the load and not hog the processor).

  • Screen Sharing and Drive Sharing

    Hey all!
I've got a Mac Mini that I am using to share files. I have an external drive attached via FireWire. The SMB and AFP shares only show up for the EXTERNAL drive when someone is logged in. Is this the expected behavior? Does anyone else have this happen?
This isn't all! I've noticed that when I use Screen Sharing and click "Return to Login" from the upper right corner, that I loose my Screen Sharing connection AND AM UNABLE TO CONNECT AGAIN. I've been able to reproduce this behavior on my Mini, MB, and MBP. Anyone else experience this?
    Thanks in advance!
    Jason

Thanks for the ideas! I kinda figured drive sharing wouldn't work from the login screen...seems kinda bogus though, but I guess if I want that, then I'd have to get OS X Server.
As for Screen Sharing, I disagree. When I connect to a Mac via Screen Sharing from the login screen, it lets me choose a logon and login. When I choose to go back to the login screen...the screen freezes. When I hook back up to the Mini from the console, the screen is frozen on a blue screen. No mouse, no keyboard. I believe it worked under a previous version of OS X 10.5...so I'm not sure if 10.5.4 messed it up...
    Thoughts?

  • Screen Sharing via iCloud on Lion Freezes at Login Screen

After updating to OSX Lion 10.7.3, screen sharing between two computers via the Internet allows me to connect to the remote computer and see the remote user's login screen, but as soon as I click on a user to login, the screen share image freezes before I can enter the user password.
Using iCloud Back to My Mac because all machines have the same Apple ID & password. Exact same setup worked before the 10.7.3 upgrade, but it could be coincidence.
    Details:
Can see the remote computers in my finder,
Can click on them and connect successfully using either the Apple ID or the name and password a user that is allowed under Sharing -> Screen Sharing,
When clicking on "Screen Share," the computers connect and I'm prompted to either "Ask to Share the Display" or "Connect to Virtual Display"Since there really isn't anyone using the computer, I select "Connect to Virtual Display"
After clicking "Connect to Virtual Display" the Screen Sharing window shows the remote computer's login screen, whcih shows the user names, their icons and "Sleep" "Restart" or "Shut Down" on the bottom of the screen.  One user has an orange circle with a white checkmark next to it.
Previously, I could click a user's name or icon, enter the password and control the remote Mac.  Now, not amount of clicking works.
Have tried disconnecting and reconnecting as different users or using Apple ID without changes in the perofmance. Have restarted both machines.
    Any help?

I'm having the same problem screen sharing to a Lion 10.7.3 machine, I get this message.
However, it works just like it used to when I screen share from a 10.7.3 machine to another Mac running 10.6.8.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

  • Screen sharing across internet

I had set up my Mac for screen sharing with Lion and was able to share the screen to another Mac on the local network, or VNC across the internet. Upgraded to Mountain Lion and screen sharing continued to work both locally and remote.
Moved to Mavericks and now the screen sharing works locally, but will only work for about 30 minutes across the internet. If I reboot the Mac, then I can access the screen across the internet for about 30 minutes, then the connection drops and I would have to reboot the Mac again.
I have screen sharing turned on by:
System Preferences -> Sharing -> Screen Sharing. Clicked on 'Computer Settings...' and checked 'VNC viewers can connect...' and gave it a password.
I can access this remote Mac across the internet using either JollysFastVNC, or the screen sharing app via Finder. Turns out that remote command line and Finder also can access this machine for about 30 minutes, then connection drops.
Has anybody else seen this problem, or have any suggestions on what I can try to keep remote access working for more than 30 minutes?

I don't have a solution (yet). I have the same problem with a Mac Mini remotely. After some short length of time, my ability to control remotely vaporizes. The Mini is running 10.9.1. It seemed to work ok earlier - although the previous version of Mavericks kept screen sharing from working if the firewall was enabled at all. The last system update from Apple fixed that.
But this isn't universal. I can connect with LogMeIn to the Mini after a fresh reboot, but eventually (30 min?) all I get is a black screen. I can connect with LogMeIn to a MacBook Pro on the same remote network as the Mini and it works just fine. I can even connect with LogMeIn to the MacBook Pro and then do screen sharing to the Mini on the same remote network - until that 30 minute? window has elapsed, and then screen sharing fails to connect without even telling me it failed (no black screen, no alert, nothing). Then that doesn't work either. File sharing from that MacBook Pro to the Mini on the same remote network continues to work, and server applications continue running fine on the Mini. For some reason the only problem is that I can't *see* the remote Mini on 10.9.1 for more than a short period after a reboot. All 3 computers involved are running 10.9.1, but only one (the Mini) is failing like this.
It sounds like the problem you are having. If I figure anything else out I'll let you know.

  • Buggy mouse cursor position (Jumps around to random spot on mouse click)

I've only noticed this annoying quirk in photoshop CS4. This only happens when using the tools in photoshop, and not in any other programs.
When using the tools in photoshop, every so often, some times more often then others, the tools will jump to a random place on (and many times FARE off) screen on mouse click. As in the tool is no longer where my mouse is, but is registering elsewheer.
A few examples. Working with the pen tool to line something, click a control point to set it, go to click to set another one and that point is now being dragged around well off my screen even though the mouse pointer is on screen.
Using the brush tool to color something in and click and the brush is coloring fare above my curser.
Select something and the selection is jumping here and there each time, go to crop? Click and drag and the grabed part jumps off screen.
It is random as to when it wants to jump, and where it wants to jump. Some times it happens all the time, others every so often, or times not at all,.
No settings are ever changed reguarding the mouse, it's just random and ONLY in photoshop with using it's tools. My mouse it's self is not jumping, just where the tool is drawing/putting down whatever is.
This jumping also seems to be a rather common thing, as I stream my drawing live at times and when it starts doing this I've had many people comment and remark that their copy also does the same thing. Posting a journal entry about it also resaulted in a lot of replies with people facing the same thing.
Is this a bug in CS4? People have told me to check my mouse settings under the control panel but that shouldn't have anything to do with it when every other program I use does not do this yet photoshop does. Flash don't, dreamweaver don't, illustrator don't. Painter, bryce, max, etc etc none of them do it. Only photoshop and only when I am using a tool. It's effects are still random.

    Hi,
I have the same problem as well. I don't think it's related to the mouse hardware at all- on mine the mouse curser stays in the same position but Photoshop registeres is elsewhere! If I let go (of holding the mouse button), the mouse is still where I left it. I've had this problem since Photoshop CS4 x64 but the problem still happens on Photoshop CS5 x64 (it was fine at first but after about a month of use now CS5 has started having the same problem).
I've had the problem for a while (almost a year now) and is really annoying! I dont have any tablets, and I've changed my mouse a few times. I am using a laptop with Windows Ultimate x64. It only happens in photoshop, it's fine in Adobe InDesign.
Hopefully someone might come up with a solution!
Thanks to anyone who can help me/us

  • Screen sharing bugs?

    Hi,
I have several problems with screen sharing:
    1. When closing the browser window the "Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro" tab on the bottom is still running.
When doing it several times I'm getting several tabs. (windows XP, Chrome).
    2. It takes several seconds for the screen sharing popup to show which might confuse users.
Are there events I can use to show and hide a loading indication like "loading screen sharing... please wait"?
Is it possible that the plugin will show this loading indication?
    3. Sometimes the "Start Screen Sharing" popup is displayed behind the browser window.
This is very confusing for the user that can't guess what to do.
It might happen if you focus the browser window or some other app, not sure.
    4. A user that tries to stop publishing is kicked out of the room.
         I've tried
         sspublisher.stop();
         or
         ss.publsher.stop(cSession.userManager.myUserID)
I'm using latest LCCS SDK and screen sharing plugin with Flash 11.1 under windows XP with chrome.
    Thanks

This is a reproducible example for the ScreenSharePublisher.stop() bug.
Win XP, FF9, latest SDK, latest Flash player
You login by calling the swf from javascript with login(roomURL, authToken) or replace it with manual authentication.
Trace messages are shown in FireBug. Replace it with something else if needed.
Click on the button to start screen sharing.
Click on the button again and see that the user gets logged out.
    Thanks

  • Mouse pointer/cursor clicking fails while screen sharing in Messages & iChat

Has anyone else had this problem?
My work partner is sharing her screen using iChat on OS 10.6.8 and I'm controlling it with Messages on OS 10.8.3 - usually working on Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
Every few minutes or so, I lose the ability to click anything on her screen. Audio/video works fine, and my keyboard commands run fine on her computer, I can usually even move the pointer fine but, clicking my mouse or trackpad has no affect on her computer. This is sometimes accompanied by a flashing stalled pointer.
We can usually fix it by having her click her mouse/trackpad a couple times and then I can continue with clicking again from mine.
But, sometimes she's not at the computer so there's no way for me to recover screen share clicking when her computer is unattended.
We both have high speed internet with 10+mb down and 5+mb up speeds.
I've also tried it with bluetooth off and still have the same problem.
Does anyone know how to recover from failed mouse clicking during screen sharing?
    Thanks.

    HI,
I have not see this but at the same time I do not Screen Share as extensively as you seem to describe.
One interpretation I could out on this from what you have written is that not only is your girlfriend getting bored and wondering Off  ( ) but her computer may also be going to sleep.
I have never waited long enough for one of my other computers to go to Sleep during a Screen Share to find out what happens.
    1) does the Share Screen go dark ?
    2) do you lose the connection as it closes the network ?
    3) Is a Screen Saver starting that you can see ?
    4) what does your girlfriend see when this happens ?
I would guess there is something about the VNC part of the iChat Screen Sharing that stops the Shared computer going to sleep.
However I am not sure if a Screen Saver can be active or if you are bumping into the time set for one to start.
I would also be interested in what the other computer is doing in a "behind the scenes" way.
Is something using up the Processor cycles and holding up the Share view as it were ?
I would guess her computer is doing something on it's own such as fetching Mail or similar or even the Time Machine Back up which can be known to cause the computer to be held up for a moment or two.

  • Screen Sharing and Right Clicking

When Screen Sharing to a Windows PC, has anyone managed to right click in Windows without using a two button mouse?
I've tried several key combination such as Shift-F10 but that evokes Expose and I'm not willing to change the default keyboard shortcut for Expose.

Thank you I have looked for days for how to do this. I used ctrl-shift then F10 (No fn) I wonder if there is a way to make a shortcut key to do this with one available fkey?

  • Is there a single click VNC/screen sharing server for OS X?

First, if this is posted in the wrong section then please forgive the error and relocate the post to the appropriate section.
I'm looking for a small distributable single click screen sharing system for tech support purposes. I generally support Windows users but sometimes need to quickly gain access to remote OSX systems from fairly clueless users. Every minute I spend explaining something that the user does not want to know or does not need to know is a waste of our mutual time. Thus I'm looking for something similar to UVNC single click for OSX. That is a distributable VNC server reduced to about 250KB or less that can be configured to automatically connect to a listening viewer on launch.
Is there a program or perhaps an executable script file that will initiate such a connection?

Start with Applications -> Automator. You can have it "Record" the setting up of the VPN server of your choice.
Then there is AppleScript, but for me that generally requires a book and Google searches to find examples close to what I want to do.
It may be possible to do some stuff via Unix shell scripts (sh, bash, awk, perl, python, ruby, etc...) and then invoke this via an Automator action, an AppleScript command, or just wrap the shell script using Platypus (search Platypus at VersionTracker.com).
If you need to configure the customer's Mac OS X firewall, that might also be an Automator action, or since the firewall is really the Unix ipfw (man ipfw), that could be a use for shell scripting.
If you need to fetch stuff from the web as part of your installation, you could use something like /usr/bin/curl in a shell script.
Setting up automation can be difficult and I'm not making light of the task. What might look like a good approach may find that the last 5 inches just can be done and you have to back track and use something else. And then there are the variables created by the fact that every customer will be different and you will find that some expected situation doesn't exist because the customer has customized something.
NOTE: The Vine Server (aka OSXvnc) can be setup to make a reverse connection. It may even be possible to use an Automator script to setup that connection for you, specifying the address.of.your.VNC.client and port number you are using.
Or create an AppleScript (which might be more robust than Automator).
Or establish an example reverse setup, then using "ps -axlww" see what the actual server command line looks like, then create a shell script wrapped by Platypus to do this for the customer.
OK, your turn to go chasing down dead-ends and practice backing out. After all you are the one that is going to get paid, I'm just doing this for fun
However, if you need to configure a customer's router that could be a problem as every darn one of them is different.

  • Accessing Muse via Screen Sharing has bizarre mouse behavior

When accessing another Mac using Screen Share... built in to the Finder, I can see Muse, but any attempt to edit a page displays strange mouse behaviour. Specifically, clicks down and up seem to be mis-interpreted as clicks held down by Muse, and only by Muse. Other apps don't show this behaviour. 100% repeatable, and easy to reproduce -- just click on an object and try to move it and you'll see how it's tough to unclick and stop dragging things around. Seems to be specific to Muse.
Using Lion on local machine, Snow Leopard on remote computer running Muse. Licensed on both locations, just sharing to give design advice.

    See this at MacFixIt.
...and 'Google' for, say, "screen sharing black window" and you'll have some suggestions.

  • Keyboard and mouse events during screen sharing

    I use OS X 10.6.8, my mom has 10.5.(8?).
Screen sharing used to work fine. I am always viewing her screen.
Lately, none of my keyboard presses or mouse clicks make it through the connection to her machine. I can 'influence' but not really control the placement of her cursor as viewed on my screen. She never sees the pointer move from wherever it was before I started trying to move it. I can see her screen fine, and even see some frame rate if she plays a video from an email message (but I don't get the audio stream). We can't continue talking while the video is playing though because our voice connection has too many dropouts.
She did change from using Comcast to using AT&T Uverse several months ago. I can't remember exactly when the troubles started, but it could have been at the time of that switch. She is getting a lower speed connection than she used to.
Are these issues strictly a problem of a too-slow connection, or is there something else to try. I'm most concerned about the keyboard and mouse loss, since that means I have to describe every action to her instead of doing anything myself. I can live without viewing videos over a screen sharing link...

    Hi,
It is worth doing  Speed check at both ends
    http://www.speedtest.net/
It may also pay to open the Connection Doctor (Video Menu) during a Audio or Video chat and checking the Bit rate and Framerate (on Video).
iChat in 1-1 Video needs "Real World" speed of 256kbps  (it will manage according to Apple at 128kbps).
This Min of 128kbps is the min for Screen Sharing as well.
The Connection Doctor will show you what iChat is using (your Bit rate) NOT what the Internet Speed is measured at.
It will be closer to the Upload Speed you have.
iChat will tend to settle closer to the slower speed of whichever Buddy has the slowest Upload (plus a margin for variances in the ISP's feed/service)
If the variances in the Internet Speed from the ISP varies too much then iChat will have difficulties.
It will drop Audio (As far as you as concerned) as it will start dropping frames to smooth the video out.
For this reason it can pay to go to iChat > Preferences > Video Section and try the Bandwidth Limit at 500kbps  (If for instance you have a 10Mbps Upload a 5% variance can be a whole 500kbps)
With both ends at 500kbps you can be below the Variance factor.
Try 200kbps if there still appear to be problems.
    NOTE:-
iChat's responses are determined by the Internet Speed (Or at least the portion that computer is getting = Bandwidth) and what else the computer is doing.
Depending on the Mac and it's Processor and the apps running at the time iChat may not get a decent use of the Processor.  (It is set to use it "last" a it were so Downloading, Playing Video elsewhere, or setting background tasks (Anit Virus scans, iMovie Rendering) may impinge on free Processor cycles).
Try to eliminate as much as possible.

  • Screen Sharing & Spaces : Left/Right Mouse Button Issue

I am using the Spaces and Screen Sharing feature of OS X 10.5.1 on my MBP to connect to my Mac Mini that is currently running OS X 10.4.11. I am able to connect fine and access the Mini without issue. However, if I switch spaces on my MBP to do another activity, and then switch back to my Screen Sharing session with the Mini, I am finding that the left mouse button is acting as the right mouse button. The only way to correct the problem is to terminate the screen sharing session are restart it.
Has anyone else encountered this? Anyone know of a fix?
BTW, the same issue occurs when the Mini is running OX X 10.5.1 so I do not believe it is an issue using two different versions of OS X.

Yes, I have the exact same problem and its frustrating as I am not as familiar with OS/X as I am with Windows.
When I had similar problems with Windows I would shoot explorer.exe from the TaskManager, wait for it to die and then start a new explorer.exe process.
I tried doing the same with OS/X. I sniggled around with mouse clicks and keystrokes until I got the Force-Exit window, highlighted "Finder" and the button would change to "Relaunch".
Another time I tried to solve this was with combinations of either Control, Option or Command and the tilde key ~.
It is frustrating and I want to avoid reboots (why go the Microsoft way?).
Hope this helps (even after months).
