Screencast in Gnome Shell doesn't work

Hi folks
I tried to record a screencast in the Gnome Shell using the built-in feature, but it's not working; there's no red dot and no file in my home directory. Is there a package I need to install? Or is it possible that the Keyboard-Shortcut is in conflict with another program, if so does somebody know how to change it?
Thanks

I've installed all gst plugins -- and that worked.

Just wonder which ones plugins package is responsible for screencast recording? Does gst and gstreamer packages may conflict with each other when they installed together?

  • Gnome-shell doesn't remember favorite application

    Hi all,
    since some time gnome-shell doesn't remember the favourite application. When I'm pressing the super-key and start typing for example "F", it should select Firefox immediately, but it's always searching in the standard list instead. I already googled it, but i couldn't find anything to help me. Any ideas?

    Hmm, since yesterday I'm fumbling around with those settings too. It seems this is not settings related at all (at least not to old package settings), but rather to nautilus' behavior. Just a few minutes ago I've set "view all hidden files" to true in it's settings. It instantly crashed. After a reboot gnome-shell is gone. This is really annoying.
    Also there is no taskbar, no menu bar, no nothing in fallback mode!... Is this even fallback mode?
    Trying to launch gnome-shell from terminal then gives:

  • [Solved] Nautilus bookmarks - Gnome Shell Doesn't Start

    Hi there.
    I've tried to search and have been scratching my head by what probably has a really simple solution but I have not found it so far.
    I've made a fresh install of Arch, system is up to date, with Gnome 3 (shell and whatnot).
    I've set my locale in /etc/rc.conf to pt_BR and have properly generated locales.
    $ locale -a
    C
    en_US
    en_US.iso88591
    en_US.utf8
    POSIX
    pt_BR
    pt_BR.iso88591
    pt_BR.utf8
    Gnome is localized to pt_BR
    Everything is fine and dandy except for a really annoying thing.
    xdg-user-dirs-update
    Creates folders with incorrect characters when viewed on Nautilus (but appear correct on Nautilus sidebar).
    I tried editing the .config/user-dirs.dirs file with gedit, it showed the wrong characters but allowed me to write the correct ones. Saved it and ran xdg-user-dis-update, the output is borked characters. Tried editing it in nano, same results.
    I've managed to manually delete and create the correct folders using
    xdg-user-dirs-update --set MUSIC /home/$USER/Foldername
    but, while it displays properly on nautilus when navigating, it doesn't display properly on the sidebar.
    I'm linking to a screenshot so it is easier to understand. The music folder should read "Músicas". You can see I'm inside the Videos folder but the sidebar name doesn't match the folder name.

    Any ideas?
    EDIT: After this post, I rebooted and gnome shell would no longer start - at all. I would get it to log in and display the wallpaper but that was it. I could get into xfce4 from gdm so I knew the issue was with gnome.
    Nonetheless, I went ahead and did yet another reinstall (I always assume I borked a package or hard-to-find-configuration).
    Feeling frustated but being a tad wiser I noticed a weird behavior on ~/.xsessionerror
    [Error initializing libicu support]
    This went on forever until I aborted the command.
    Changing my locale on my rc.conf from pt_BR to en_US fixed gnome-shell. I was once again able to boot into it without a problem. I then, from within gnome, choose portuguese as the default locale (gnome-control-panel, not rc.conf). This fixed the Nautilus issue above and has not stopped gnome-shell from working. I don't know *how* they implement their localization but heck, it works.
    Solved and maybe it might help anyone with the same issue.

  • GNOME Proxy Doesn't Work ?

    Hey There,
    Because of my work, I sometimes have to join some networks that I have to use some proxies to connect to the internet.. Because of this, I generally have to set all programs' settings seperately and then back when I'm home let's say... Instead I really would like to use GNOME Proxy settings so that each program that I use would use those settings.. Is this possible ?
    Even Pidgin, Firefox etc.. doesn't work with it..

    Make sure you have FAM enabled in your /etc/rc.conf.  Look for this line in your rc.conf
    DAEMONS=(syslog-ng network crond hal fam)
    and just make sure FAM is included in that line. Fam is needed by gnome.

    It doesn't work on a lot of computers. Its because the BIOS is handling your brightness instead of GNOME. I don't think there is a solution. You'll just have to use the keyboard.

    I have the same issue with a 2 month old Galaxy S4 and I noticed it after the last push from Verizon whihc may have been the 4.3 update. Proximity sensor won't light up the screen again when you move it away from your face.  Verizon told me to do a factory reset, Samsung told me to do a soft reset then clear the cache.  Did all and still have same problem. Had a call yesterday and person on other end did not hang up so I had no way to hand up on my end.  Am turning off the proximity senson durring calls for now but it will use up more of the battery with the screen lit more.  They need to fist it.

  • [SOLVED] Gnome Shell doesn't search through recently used items

    A while back I ran chattir +i on ~/.local/share/recently-used.xbel because of a bug that gnome shell had where it would crash while searching for recently used items. Since I've now updated to 3.4.1, I figured the bug might have been fixed, so I ran chattr -i to allow writing to the file again. The file has since filled up with my recently used items, but they don't seem to appear in the gnome shell search.
    Sorry if this is a bit brief, but I'm not sure what other information to give on this problem.

    I believe this was removed with 3.4.
    Here is the bug report: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=670150
    And here is the gnome-shell commit: http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-shell … 8c68782d54

  • Ck-launch-session gnome-session doesn't work

    I go
    ck-launch-session gnome-session
    I'm told
    ** (gnome-session:3792): WARNING **: Cannot open display:
    What's going on? Why doesn't it work.

    @falconindy
    Fair enough. I'll see what I can do. Now if only there was more understandable documentation I wouldn't have this problem.
    Also what is your take on the following related problem?

  • Disney Gnome Village doesn't work after installing the new iso 6 upgrade

    Just updated the new iso6 and the Disney Gnome Village applications does not open up. Have tried uninstalling and then reinstalled with no change. Other applications are working fine. any ides?

    From the developers: " Gnome Village We are aware that players who have updated their device software to iOS6 are experiencing loading issues. We are actively investigating this issue and hope to have it resolved soon. If you have encountered this issue and would like to submit a ticket, please be sure to include information about the device you have been playing on. Example: iPad 2, iOS 6."

  • Open files from terminal (gnome-open doesn't work properly)

    How can I open files from terminal? On Ubuntu, I used xdg-open. On Arch, I have gnome-open, but I can only open directories with that, not files directly. This sucks bucause I like navigating through my files using the terminal instead of a file manager, which doesn't make that much sense if files can't be opened directly.

    If you want to see the syntax, here is my defaults.list (so far my Xfce installation hasn't tried to switch over to mimeapps.list):

  • CPUFreq gnome applet doesn't work.

    Hi, i have a problem with CPUFreq gnome applet.
    I'm following this instruction: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GN … n.27t_work and frequency scaling still not working, but I can change this manually (cpufreq-set). When i run startx as root this works pretty good.
    My rc.conf:
    CONSOLEFONT="lat2-16.psfu.gz"
    CONSOLEMAP=
    USECOLOR="yes"
    USELVM="no"

    lo="lo 127.0.0.1"

    Any idea?

    Hi!
    You've written acpi_cpufreq twice there:
    MODULES=( fglrx acpi_cpufreq acpi-cpufreq cpufreq_powersave cpufreq_ondemand cpufreq_conservative cpufreq_userspace )
    You've forgotten cpufreq in your daemons array:
    DAEMONS=( syslog-ng cpufreq dbus @crond @acpid @alsa @sensors !network )
    Check here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Cpufrequtils

  • Gnome-Bluetooth doesn't work after Gnome 2.28 update.

    It seems that gnome-bluetooth package is broken.
    Before the update I have started bluetooth by Fn+F5. Now when the bluetooth is on the output looks like this
    [szelek@IBM ~]$ bluetooth-applet

    ** (bluetooth-properties:19017): WARNING **: Failed to change RFKILL state: Błędny deskryptor pliku
    The button says: Turn Bluetooth On.
    Bluetooth-preferences looks all the time the same. I can click on this button, it becomes grayed out (unavailable) but nothing happens afterwards.
    I tried running bluetooth-wizard but it says that bluetooth is off even though it supposed to be turned on.
    Maybe there are some problems with bluez configs after the update? Well I hope that someone have a solution for this one

    I have a similar problem: I do not use bluez-gnome, just bluez and blueman, but after the dbus update I get this error in /var/log/errors.log:

  • Gconf- Warning: no gnome-session or gnome-shell

    I have just installed Arch_amd64 and I am using GNOME as my DE.
    I get to the gdm login screen and I login.. However, for desktop I get the striped wallpaper and nothing else... mouse works and keyboard too (alt+ctrl+del).
    Looks like gnome-shell doesn't load, I am guessing.
    However during installation of gnome I got following warning:
    GCONF- WARNING ** : Client failed to connect to the D-BUS daemon:
    Unable to autolaunch a dbus daemon without a $DISPLAY for X11
    Any pointers to help me resolve this?

  • Wayland backend per user for Gnome Shell?

    Hello, I've been trying to set environment variable with Wayland backend for Gnome Shell on Wayland but this per user just doesn't work.
    I tried to put:
    export GDK_BACKEND=wayland
    export CLUTTER_BACKEND=wayland
    to files like .profile and .bashrc but Gnome Shell doesn't tolerate these two. Without Wayland backend everything just run in XWayland "mode".
    Weston tolerate this backends but it is highly "underfetaured" and sometimes it's just crash (some breakpoint trap).
    Any response appreciated.

    I have had a brief look and I think there may be a way in to add/change things via .desktop files.  It looks like whenever gnome loads a .desktop type file it should look in $XDG_CONFIG_HOME home which, by default, would be $HOME/.config first before loading it from one of the standard system directories.  The standard session definitions are desktop files (though with a .session extension) so putting a copy on $HOME/.config should enable user specific reconfiguration.

  • [SOLVED] gnome-shell-extension-user-theme doesn't work.

    gnome-tweak-tool shows that I have the gnome-shell-extension-user-theme extension installed and I can turn it on and off, but it has no effect. I still can't choose a theme. The exclamation mark next to the drop down selector is still active when the extension is on. Any idea what might be wrong?

    trusktr wrote:@alexcortes and @Unia, Is it just me or do things seem a little discombobulated now with both gconf-editor and dconf-editor in the mix? Why not just keep one *-editor? It seems like this and many other little "issues" would be easier to catch with just one *-editor. What's the point of two?
    Well yea I agree, but atm it's not going to happen. Anyway, since GS won't work with Catalyst for now I resorted to DWM and try to avoid all the gconf/dconf stuff. Works quite well
