I would like to ask for help in planning a Bridge script.
I am a beginner Photoshop and Bridge developer.
Script behavior:
Check for selected thumbnail
Open the selected thumbnail/s from Bridge in Photoshop.
Run a set of Photoshop actions
Save the changes to the file
Close the file
How do I approach these tasks programmatically?
What are the sequence of events to necessary to execute the script?
Applying photoshop scripting as a model I can come up with this sequence which can be scripted with the if else statement.

I have looked at IPP V3 script and the Bridge CS6 SDK SnpOpeninPhotoshop.jsx script.
I find them overwhelming and not easy to extract the functionality that I ma trying to build.
Will try again to see if I can get further.

Is my plan advisable?

I want to set up a wireless network in my home linking the following: Verizon FIOS Broadband, Nintendo Wii, Mac iMac G5 (hard cable Ethernet connection), and (soon) Apple TV. My question is that, since the Wii and the Apple TV use different WiFi standards, will the Apple Extreme 802.11n be able to maximize transfer speeds to both of these devices?

Do you mean the new 802.11n AEBS or the AirPort Express (AX)?
You could configure the new 802.11n AEBS to work at 5 GHz and allow the FiOS base station to operate at 2.4 GHz. Then the Apple TV would connect at full speed without any impact from the Wii.

apparently, cost_centre doesn't exist in your table h (GL_JE_LINES_DFV).
you might want to take a second look at that..
but if you have a different error returned, please post additional info.
or the error log itself.

Database uptime monitoring by either snmp or active monitor script anyone?

Has anyone previously setup any type of active monitoring script through whats up gold or an snmp informant type of monitoring script to advise when a database is down or specific process is down?
An example would be like ORACLE_PKG1, and the process is named ora_smon_hrprd88.
This is what the HP-UX “ps” shows:

Not sure if the extra info helps, but you never know. We can set it up to send us database up alerts, but the problem I have is when the listener service is down I can't get my script to finish no matter how I change the values of my script around. I can provide my script if that would help as well. If someone has already done this and is willing to share great!

I would suggest you install OEM Grid Control to monitor your databases. For basic monitoring function it's free. OEM GC works great, it's a little overweight though. It's also use SNMP.
Or you can choose any third party tool like

How can I stop Firefox hanging continuously because of unresponsive scripts?

This has been happening for months, on previous & current installations.
I have tried every remedy from Firefox's Troubleshooting pages to no avail.
I have tried remedies from other forums (which often give totally opposing advice to that on the Firefox ones!), also to no avail.
The issue happens when I am visiting any site that streams videos (BBC iPlayer, 4OD, ITV Player, etc) and in Facebook.
It hangs for at least 5 minutes before the "Warning: Unresponsive Script" message appears, & even when I click "stop script" it continues to hang & freezes the whole computer.
I have updated all my plugins, tried Firefox both with & without add ons installed.
I have tried "Yes Script" as advised by the Firefox Troubleshooter, but with that installed the pages won't load at all.
This is driving me nuts, it happens all the time. Using Facebook is nigh on impossible - it takes 20 mins to write a sentence!

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Service story

On Thu 7/19, about 3:00 PM, we had a close lightning strike.   Evidently hit a tree close to the house. Almost immediately afterward, discovered no phone service / no DSL. Check on several phones in the house, no dial tone at any.
Called Verizon. Explained that we did have a lightning strike and that phones / DSL out (no dial tone). OK, rep runs a line test says everything OK must be inside the house. I object and go outside and check at the NIC box. No dial tone there. Rep now agrees issue is outside the house. Tells me the first available appt is Tue 7/24 in the afternoon. Not happy. Explain I work from home and no DSL is a real issue for me. Also, I've just gotten over being one of those folks without power for 8 days and also had a four day phone/DSL outage then. My sob story does no good. Rep says he can't do better than five days out for a service call but then, he didn't even try to see if he had some avenue to do better.
OK. Next day I check with some neighbors. Guess what, I'm not the only one with no phone. So I call Verizon back to see if there's possibility of getting earlier repair since multiple folks are out. All the rep can say is that my outage has been attached to a group outage but can't tell me anything about possibility of repair earlier than 7/24. OK, I'll be patient and wait.
Tue 7/24. Wait all afternoon for someone to show up. Wife and I are home all the time (remember - I work from home) and we have two very noisy dogs that would let us know if anyone came up the driveway. About 6:30 PM I get an automated call from Verizon asking me to take a survey on the repair person. Asks me if I'm the person who interacted. When I press 2 for no, tells me they'll call back later when that person who interacted is available. Absolutely no option to say 'never showed up'.
So I call Verizon. Explain to the rep that I waited five days for a repair person and just got a survey call but that no repair person ever showed up. Rep is 'sympathetic' (obviously playing to a script) and advises the case has been been closed with repair person saying service @ 4:57 PM. Tells me the best he can do is to schedule another appt. Tells me that he can get a repair person out Sat 7/28. I was livid ! I waited 5 days for the repair from my first call, tech doesn't show up at the house and now I'm being told I have to wait another 4 days. I was not nice. What really galled me was no attempt (other than script pablum) to get me fixed. Rep told me best he could do was to call 'dispatch' and see if they could get someone hear earlier. I told him that I wanted a supervisor to call me back with 1) an explanation of what the tech did and 2) plan to have a technician here the following day.
About an hour later, supervisor calls. Tells me that dispatch says they can't send anyone before Sat. I went ballistic. I advised her that was not acceptable. Questioned that I could not believe they had no process to handle this kind of scenario.   Advised her I wanted her to pursue it and that I would, if necessary, expedite this to whatever the highest local executive level in our service area the next day. I was extremely persistent and not polite (gave up on that several calls ago). Tells me that they can 'forward' my number to another phone temporarily. I let her know that DSL is also out, I work from home so I'm hosed. Sheepish 'Oh' from her side. She agrees she'll pursue it further and call me back within an hour.
While I wait for her call, I get another 'survey' call on our 'repair person interaction'.
OK, about 1/2 an hour later supervisor calls back. Tells me that I will have repair person on Wed 7/25. Amazing !! After being told several times 'we have no way to do this' they make it happen. Tells me that the repair person had checked something on a pole (all our service is under ground, nearest pole is 1/2 mile away) and he thought it could be a cable problem. I asked why did he then close the ticket without a) checking with us to see if issue was resolved or b) forwarding to the 'cable' folks for a follow up repair and advising us of status. Couldn't answer. Did ask me if we had recently had a storm in the area and I told her that I told the rep about the lightning strike on my very first call !! I did thank her for her diligence and that her final behavior (and result) is what customer service is supposed to be about.
About 15 mins after I get off that call, I get an automated call from Verizon telling me my problem has been corrected. Can you believe that !!
This morning, bright and early, I get a call from the tech who's supposed to show up today and telling me when he expects to be here. That's the way this should work and I'm hopeful I'll have service by the end of the day.
Anyone from Verizon care to comment ? If you do, make it a meaningful answer with some depth. If all you're going to do is give a canned reply, don't bother.

Resolved !! Tony showed up at 1:00 (1 hr before he thought he would get here). He started working from the NIC box back. Within an hour I had phone service / DSL back. Lightning had blasted some connections in a culvert service box at the bottom of the driveway. Thanked Tony profusely and let him know that Verizon should be thankful they have employees like him.
So Verizon - why didn't the repair person who was supposed to have fixed the problem yesterday find this when Tony found it so quickly. Oh yes, that repair person didn't even come to the house !! And why did I have to 'kick and scream' with the call center folks to get someone out today when Verizon clearly screwed this up by not servicing the problem yesterday.

Create a two-way link (using AppleScript?) in Numbers '09

We are migrating to iWork '09 for our business needs and seek an Applescript expert to advise us as follows.
Our team has successfully used VBA in Excel for Mac 2004 to "two-way link" two cells in differing spreadsheets such that anything entered in cell 1 shows up in cell 2 and vice versa. However, neither Excel for Mac 2008 (which most of our company uses) nor Numbers supports VBA, and Numbers seems like the best overall app to use IF we can get two cells to link as described. Typical formulas do not work as a cell cannot be both an input and an output cell.

How to auto start services like apache in a zone when i boot it

Current i have a zone that has a web service configure and it runs fine with "/etc/init.d/apache start"
but i would like to auto start it like a service when the zone boots.

I suggest taking a closer look at http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-1985/6mhm8o5n0?a=view which explains the whole booting process in detail.
Apart from that you may also want to check the "ln" manualpage (ln(1)) which explains how to make symlinks on Solaris. After that it should be relatively easy; you basicly create a (sym)link in the right directory and then you're homefree.

Save As - Not Allowed Security Error

Hello,
I have a script to save a livecycle form with a predefined path and file name.
However there is a Not allowed Error: Security settings prevent access to this property or method.
I am not sure why the security error is still there when a trusted function is used.
Can someone please provide some assistance with the script to advise where it could be going wrong?

Firstly the main page in the form is not named, which makes referencing it difficult. If you call the page "page1", then remember that javascript is case sensitive.It should look something like this:

Considering you don't want to go for controller extension..
A way is to use java script in personalization.
Simply create a RawTextBean using personalization and add the java code to change the properties.
Java script plan:
Get the handle of the items to change (like here drop down)
selectTags=document.getElementsByTagName('select') --gives list of all the select tags in the page
get ID of the select tag whose value you want to change (loop throug selectTags array).
or get it directly by getElementsByName method or getElementsByID mETHOD.
Say its handle is changeItemID.

Type expected error

I am writing a Java Application and the compiler said:
/Macintosh HD/Michael/Java/Lessons/Lesson 2/Excercise 15/Sheboyganeeze.java:44: Type expected.
return newstring;

The definition for newstring is:
String newstring = newstringchar[];
and the definition for newstringchar[] is:
char newstringchar[] = NULL;
In previous compilations it threw an error about NULL not being defined. I retyped the line and it did not throw the error again however I think it might be affecting it in some way. It also said that I couldn't create a new string variable from a character array, however after restarting the computer this error went away as well. If anyone can help or needs me to post the script please advise as such. Your help in this matter is most appreciated - we are stuck!

The definition for newstring is:
String newstring = newstringchar[];This is invalid - The assignment is illegal as you're trying to set the String reference to refer to a char array.
Assuming your method has a return type of String then returning newString will be valid as long as the declaration for newString is valid.

Workflow into and out of After Effects

I’m just starting to learn how to use After Effects CC, with the help of the associated Adobe “Classroom In A Book” to get me started. Naturally, I’m keen to start using AE myself with my own projects, but this raised a question I can’t find the answer to.
First, apologies if I’ve posted to the wrong forum, I’ve target the AE forum because this is where I’ve become stuck, and hence the question. Basically it’s about overall workflow. Before I ever used After Effects, I’d organise my video clips, and do whatever was needed completely within Premiere Pro. Ultimately, my finished Premiere Pro project would be exported off to Media Encoder and job done!
If I’m working on a clip in Premiere Pro that I feel needs work done to it in After Effects, do I stop working in Premiere Pro and work on that clip in After Effects, bringing the finished clip back to Premiere Pro? Do I complete my project in Premiere Pro, and import the finished video into After Effects, resuming work on the sections of the finished video that require it?
Workflow wise, I’m just not sure how the process should be followed. I always work out in advance what I want my (finished) video to be, and when I was working just with Premiere Pro, it was pretty straightforward. I’m just now sure how to proceed efficiently when After Effects becomes involved.
Any advice most welcome.

As Mylenium said, you basically work on your effects shots the way effects shots have always been worked on. Since the days of Georges Méliès and other pioneers in the film industry, you edit the material you have to create your first cut or rough cut of your movie, then you decide what shots or sequences need effects, then you send those shots to the effects department for them to work on it. Only the tools have changed. What was originally a couple of rewinds, a viewer and a splicing block has become the NLE. Animators, matte painters, and special effects departments have been changed to compositing and motion graphics products like AE and Nuke. The workflow, has not changed. Beginners usually foul up the workflow and don't work as efficiently as they could, but an efficient production process is still the same. Script, plan, schedule, rehearse, block, shoot, rough cut, add special effects, refine the cut, do the final sound mix, do the final color grading, and render the movie.
For simple effects you can use dynamic link to simplify moving your effects work to AE and back to Premiere Pro, but I would recommend that any effects shot that requires more than a half hour to complete be rendered and the footage in AE be replaced with your render. Make sure you include enough handles on your effects shots so you can fine tune the editing for the final cut.
