Scroll bar with external text file

Hello all,
I need to make a flash movie with a graphic background with
text from an external file.
Ideally:
1) The text file would NOT have to be imported into the flash
movie. It would simply be in the same web folder as the flash file.
2) Even better the text file would have a separate css file
so I can change font size etc, while I tweak the movie, and get
client approval.
If 1 and 2 are not possible, then I can live with importing
the text file. But CSS would sure be a nice addition!
BTW I have Flaxh MX Professional 2004.

Hey, I had to do a VERY similar thing for a student project a
few months ago. If you go to
Flashkit.com, you can find
tutorials on how to import XML and CSS or XSL. I was able to do it
and I don't know a lot of actionscript. If you want to see how I
used it, go to
the University of Scranton's MIT
website.

I'm trying to create a scroller bar with external text on Flash, but not suceeding much. I want to do it in AS 2.0, as my whole website is created in AS 2.0. I found a tutorial on Kirupa for Flash MX 2004, but does not work with Flash CS4, which is what I'm running.
What I need is, basically, to have a scroll bar to scroll up and down an external text (XML or .txt). I just don't seem to be able to do it. Also, is there a way of customizing the scroll bar?

Adding scroll bar to a text box

Is there a way to add a scroll bar to a text box? I am designing a website using ID (in the web view) which I am then giving to a web person to implement. I have one page that is longer than the others, where I would like to be able to scroll the text. I would really appreciate a step by step instruction on how to add a scroll bar to this text box.

The point is that exporting to Flash makes creating the webpage in ID seamless. I am not familiar with a
way to import an ID file into a Dreamweaver HTML. ID relies on pages that get converted to
frames on the Flash timeline which makes switching between pages, if you know enough ActionScript, a breeze.

How to load external text file into a Form?

Hi,
I made a menu with 1-5 in a Form and 5 external text files. I want the user who is able to view the text content of the text file when he chooses one of them from the menu. And the text file screen has a "Back" command button to let him go back.
How can I do it and can it support other languages such as Chinese and Japanese?

Sorry, I made the mistake about the subject, it should be loading local file, not external file through http.
I wrote a method but it throwed an exception when the midlet was run.

Scroll bars onto a text box

Hello,
I've got a dynamic text box in my flash file that reads a txt
file in a directory for information. I'd like for it to have scroll
bars like the ones in the component scrollpane.
In the help file, it says that the scrollpane can be added to
a text box, but when I click on it further for more information it
only says it can hold swfs, jpgs etc...
is it possible to make those flashmx default scroll bars onto
a text box?
I'm using Flash MX 2004.

You can do that but you would have to install the MX
componentes into MX2004 first. They used to be availabele at
Macromedia for downlaod, I guess they are somewher to be found at
Flash donloads at adobe still now.

Appending an external text file

Hi everyone. I need a little help. I'm trying to append an external text file. I'm able to read it using the "in.readLine()" and "BufferedReader" commands but can't figure how to append it. The reason being is I'm trying to add new information to each new line. For example my ext. text file looks something like this:
Homer Simpson 3489 Evergreen Terrace Springfield
Marge Simpson 3489 Evergreen Terrace Springfield
Bart Simpson 3489 Evergreen Terrace Springfield
Please note that I'm not using a string tokenizer to read the text file. If someone could please give me an example to append information to each new line I would greatly appreciate it. Also please note that the text file is being read into a vector to hold the information. Thank you.

Find Change through external text file

I am bit pretty in InDesign scripting so could you please look into this.
How can i change any particular text field in Indesign CS3 document from text file.
I do have find change script but for each InDesign document specific text file is assigned.
So each time i have to modify find change GREP property that is also repetetive of work. Is there any way to get find change information should be extract from external text file.

In the FindChangeByList script, you could customize the function myFindFile(myFilePath) {...} as to search the FindChangeList text file in the document location rather than the script location. That's an example. The question is: given a document, where will you have the corresponding FindChangeList?

Add one character at a time from External Text file

Hi,
I'm using Flash 8, and I have created a standard Dynamic
field that pulls the text from an external text file using the
LoadVars function and it works fine.
To get the correct effect for the design, I would like to be
able to create the illusion that the characters are being typed out
when the page loads as if someone has started typing and also hear
the "Typewriter Clack" each time a character appears.
The only place I have found an example is on the Syphon
Filter Game website which seems to have created the illusion
perfectly:

I could create a Movieclip and add a character each frame
but, I would like to be able to edit the text when required via a

Swf with external .as files not working in Captivate

Hello,
I am using Flash Professional CS5.5 & Captivate 5.5 (purchased with eLearning suite).
When I insert swf animations into Captivate that have external .as files they do not work.
Tried both insert animation & insert animation slide - same results.
I placed the .as files in the same file as my Captivate project and have tried multiple setting options.
The FPS are set to 30.
I had the same problem with external audio files and had to embed the audio into my fla to get it to play in Captivate.
Does Captivate just not allow external files?
Any help/insight is appreciated!!

The most likely reason for this failure is that since your SWF is now embedded into another SWF (the Captivate project) the paths to the AS files need to be altered in Flash to allow for this.
You need to investigate how this would be done in AS code if your Flash SWF was a symbol inside another Flash SWF.

Adobe Captivate 4 Adding a Scroll Bar to a Text Caption

I have a lot of text information to show on one slide and I'd like the user to have the ablility to stay on one slide but scroll down.
Is there any way to add a Scroll Bar to a Text Caption to allow this to function as described?

There is no way to add a scrollbar to a normal Captivate text caption.
There DOES however exist a widget that provides something simlar:

Why is there a vertical scroll bar with short page export from FW CS4?

When I view my exported page that is 400 pixels tall, I see a vertical scroll bar on the right of my IE7 browser even though the page is no where near the bottom of the browser. How do I eliminate that scroll bar?

Unfortunately this is not working in IE7. Below is my body tag (I edited the SLICES.XTT to prevent the margins) where I've added the overflow option:

But I still see the vertical scroll bar with a 400 px image exported as html, see attachments.

Help! Every app crashes when interacting with plain text files

I recently bought a 13" i7 MacBook Air. I love its design and I found OS X Lion unbelievably fast on it, yet I find myself in a very dark situation, now.
From the Finder to iA Writer, to TextEdit, every single app crashes when working with plain text files. In Finder’s column view I don’t even have to open them: the instant one .txt is selected, Finder crashes.
Creating a new user account seems to fix the bug for that account, but I just spent one whole day copying files from my old work MacBook (where Lion opened .txt files without a problem) to the new account and losing another entire day of work because of a stupid bug is out of question. Also, I feel it would be a very temporary fix. What if the bug presented itself again? Would I have to create a third, a fourth account, and so on?
I didn’t use any migration tool because I wanted a very clean installation.
On top of that, the machine is as App Store–only as one could be. The only “internet” apps I have on it are Chrome (for the occasional Flash video), Movist (I can’t work with Quicktime’s flying controls), and nvALT. I didn’t even had the time to install the Creative Suite on this one. I can’t for the life of me think this is app–related. I suspect it’s some weird OS bug.
I work in advertising, and I do some work in Adobe’s Creative Suite but *all* my copy is stored in plain text files. I always did it that way so that my files would be future–proof. It is kind of ironic now. So please, if anyone as the slightest idea of how to fix this, please, please, help. I find myself with a brand new computer I can’t use for work.

Dynamic Text with external .txt files

I need help getting dynamic text to display. I've used the
following tutorials (among others).

In Flash 8 on last frame of maintimeline of movie, I have a
layer with a background image, 2 buttons and a dynamic textbox
(made scrollable) with scrollbar component. Textbox is given a var
of "content", and an instance name of "textBox", which is
referenced in scrollbar parameters.
I have created 3 text .txt files, and saved them to same
folder with movie .swf file. Text in files is preceeded by
"content=" on line preceeding text to correspond with var of
dynamic textbox. The files were created in Rich text format on Mac
OSX4.11 and saved with .rtf extension, then file extension was
changed to .txt (wouldn't save as .txt)
I've added the following actionscript to this last frame:

When I test movie, I can see buttons on last frame of movie,
but they don't load any text when pressed, and "undefined" text
appears in upper left corner of text box before I press either
button.

No more output errors, buttons still not working, but I got
my intro .txt file to load in textbox that loads with frame using
