Scrolling/Sliding content in flash

Hi, I'm looking for tutorials that  show how to create scrolling content in flash, but instead of an auto  scroll, I would like to click and drag the content.
Similar to the link below.

  • Scroll script works in Flash 6, but not in 9

I have a simple scroller script that works fine for scrolling
a movieclip in Flash 6, but when I publish in anything later, it no
longer scrolls. Both are set to AS2. Is there an obvious reason
that anyone can see of why this should be? When I test the script
syntax in the actions panel, it says there are no errors in the
script. By tracing I can see that there's no trouble with targeting
the up and down buttons or scroll slider, and the slider still
drags, but the content MC doesn't move as it should. Thank you very
much for your help, in advance. Here's the script, in case the
answer isn't obvious from the description:

You were right! It works now, even as posted above. I just
remembered I had fixed an upper/lower case inconsistency just for
neatness since I last tested, never thinking that would fix the
problem! I just tested again and to my surprise, it works great. I
guess neatness does count!!! Thanks again, kglad!

  • Scrolling Marquee created in Flash 5.5 Pro not working in CP5.5

    Hi all.
I've created a scrolling marquee .swf within Flash 5.5 Pro which has the dimensions of 30x205.
This works perfectly both testing the scene in Flash as well as when you view the .swf on it's own.
However, when I import the .swf into Captivate 5.5 and run the project, the scrolling text starts perfectly but then doesn't stop, i.e. it is not bounded by the original size of the Flash project so I end up with the message sscrolling right across the screen till all the text is visible, when it disappears.
I'm not sure if this is a Flash problem where I have missed something or done something wrong, or a Captivate problem.
I'm really VERY new to Flash so I'm guessing it is something I haven't done.
I understand that you can force Flash projects to be bounded to an area of the screen by using AS3, but I have no coding experience and am stuck.
    Can anyone help?
I'm happy to share the relevant files if anyone wants to see what I've done.
    Thanks all.
P.S. I've also posted this in the Flash forum in case it is that.

Col, it's just one of the quirks in the way that Flash works.  Even though youv'e set your Flash document size to be only 30 pixels by 205 pixels, if you have the text starting off stage and scrolling onto the stage, then the REAL stage area (including the scrap area around the stage) MUST be larger than 30x205 right?
So what happens is that unless you mask the stage area to hide the bits you don't want to see, if you place that SWF into another SWF that has a larger stage area, then the scrolling text will be visible even before it gets to what you thought to be the visible stage area.
So you need to get your head around the concept of Masking in Flash to pull off what you want to do here.  With masking, you're actually looking through a window the same size as the mask to see the scrolling text.  Then even when you bring it into a larger SWF like the Captivate movie, all you're going to see is the area covered by the mask.
I tried to get to your FLA file but couldn't find it in Acrobat.com for some reason.  Message said the file could not be found.

  • Iframe not scrolling to content below set height in IE9

Because iframe height of 100% didn't render correctly (in any browsers) I chose a set height (600px) in which to display my clients' property listings within one of their site pages.
All works reasonably all tested browsers (double scroll bars in Chrome and Safari -- div and iframe -- despite that the div isn't set to have such, but I can likely fix that); IE9, though, is nonfunctional:  In IE9 I get a Y scrollbar, as defined, however it does not scroll past content that fits into 600 pixel iframe height.  That is, is does not scroll to show the rest of the iframe page.
I have tried separately defining x and y scrollers as well as simply calling for scrolling in general; no luck.
I have been searching for hours for a fix, and have tried every combination of style coding to the iframe itself as well as the overall style sheet (to the div).  I also read the soure for the page rendered in IE9, and the style coding was as I'd written it.
It has to be a simple fix, or others would be having this IE9 issue, too, right?
Have even added <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=8"> to the header; didn't change anything.
Anyone know what is going on -- and how to fix it?
I apologize for how jumbled both the CSS and source code is for this site.  If I were recreating the site today, I could do a much cleaner job.
    Here are a few tries:

    http://cbm1.com/retail_property_listings/costar3.html
This version (more info in the CSS, less inline) gets rid of the double scrollers in Safari and Chrome (while still working in FF) but still the same doesn't-scroll-beyond-the-600px-iframe-pane-height issue in IE9.  Tried moving the meta directive toward IE8 to immediately above the body tag as well as first meta tag on the page; neither resulted in any IE9 rendering change:
    http://cbm1.com/retail_property_listings/costar4.html
Happy to simply paste the inline + CSS coding alone in this window, if that's easier for anyone.

  • How to scroll the content of an XY chart?

Is it possible to scroll the contents of a chart? I want to keep a fixed Y axis and scroll the X axis. If the chart is placed inside a ScrollPane, then Y axis, legend, and chart title can be scrolled out of the view...

    John,
thanks for the suggestion. I could find that css selector with the help of a decompiler (most of the chart sources are not yet released). However, to reparent this into a scrollpane required me to subclass the chart. This is because the chart itself is the parent of the content but it does not expose its children (which are protected in the Parent class). The problem is now that the chart does not show. I can only see the title and legend, no axis and no content. What am I doing wrong?

unable to scroll iframe content in Safari on ipad

Try going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • Alternate content for Flash area

Hi.  Could someone give me the simplist, yet working method to display alternate content if Flash isn't installed?
What I have is a website with a Flash header that has the navigation buttons as part of the Flash animation.
What I TRIED to do is have it so that if Flash isn't installed, it displays an image, plus HTML nav buttons (to replace the Flash nav buttons in the SWF that is not there now).
I did this with a <noembed> tag... but testing it on an IPhone (...the bane of my existance...), it didn't work, and had nothing in the 'window' where the swf would normally be.  The <noembed> doesn't appear to work... unless I did it wrong, which is entirely possible, as it's already baffling having THREE methods of embedding (<object>, <embed> and javascript) present.
I COULD just put HTML buttons on the main body (but I quite like the animated Flash nav buttons I have in the SWF, and that would mean two sets of nav buttons, one under the other, which looks dumb..... So, I'd have to have a sytem where it's one or the other.... HTML buttons or Flash buttons in the swf....  which is what I tried, but it didn't work.
Looking up the subject online, I found lots of very intricate coding that just made my head spin.  I would rather not use coding that I didn't at least partically understand... in case something is not working, etc.
Could someone outline the easiest and best method to do this:
If the SWF doesn't show (Flash not installed/supported), it shows the image and HTML buttons (all within the window that the swf would normally be in).
Please give me the complete, idiot-proof explanation, as vague ones will probably go over my head, as my scripting knowledge is weak, at best... (assuming this involves scripting).
Would the <noembed> not work, or might it be that it is placed in the wrong spot or something?
Here's the code I have (...as far as the content of the table cell, which is normally the swf, but attempts to load the image 'noflashheader.jpg' and the html buttons if needed):
    <td width=920 height=120>
    <script language="javascript">
         if (AC_FL_RunContent == 0) {

Is there a way to have parallax scrolling and a changing slideshow? (so the slideshow looks still and it looks like you scroll your content over it again)

You can apply opacity to images or define key position for slideshow so that with page scroll the opacity changes and will bring the similar effect.

  • How to scroll the contents of the table without scrolling tab/colmn headers

how to scroll the contents of the table without scrolling table and column headers in WebDynPro.
I have set the table properties as
    footer visible = false;
    Visible row count = -1;
and have put the table into scroll container with some specified height.
I dont want to use the footer as I have used many tables in the container in same row and with same <b>Data node</b>.
I have used many tables in same row and with same context node to differentiate it with two different colors for that specific columns.
    I am using <b>NW 04</b> and not NW04s.
    Please help me regarding this.

To print the whole data of your table you have to do it yourself. The showPrintablePageBehavior only print what you actually see on the page. It does not traverse the data.
The normal way to handle tis is to use a report generator (like itext, jasper report, fop ...).

  • Redirected Application Data content and Flash cookies

How come that Flash has difficulties working with redirected Applicaion Data (redirected to the users home dir in a directory starting with a . (dot))? Problems occur placing the Flash cookies in Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects. So far all Windows Apps work fine with this redirected content exept Flash!

You have met one of the major flaws in Photoshop CS3.
This behaviour slows the application down severely when any involvement of a network occurs. The commonest example is printers. Many users have to avoid having a networked printer as default and, because of the way XP treats printers, even local printers attached to the user's computer can cause severe slow-downs. The cure in this case is to make a generic printer driver the default.
I know this is not your problem but in my opinion it is due to the same flaw in Photoshop and probably also related to the introduction of the Bonjour service with CS3.

  • Can you have a shallow page, yet have anchors scroll deeper content behind.

Is it possible to have a deep page, using anchors to jump down the page, BUT to only have say 500 of the depth visible and the rest hidden. So you see the header at the top, footer at the bottom and anchors scroll the content up and down within 500 pixel deep page content.

File don't have to be 1024x768, but a common approach is to use 1024x768 source files in InDesign and add them to 2048x1536 folios (or just leave them as 1024x768 in PDF image format). As you suggest, you can also create 2048x1536 source files and add them to 2048x1536 folios, but you don't really gain anything. Either approach works.
In your case, you want to add a Smooth Scrolling article that's 7200 pixels long in a 2048x1536 folio. You can create a 1024x3600 source article and add it to the folio (the content scales up nicely as Bob L suggests), or you can create a 2048x7200 source article and add it to the folio. But don't create a 1536x7200 or a 768x3600 source file for a horizontal-only folio. I think that's causing the error you're seeing.

  • Windows doesn't like my 1 page scrolling site containing some flash. Please

Please would anyone with a PC be kind enough to try my one page scrolling site that I am testing:
    http://angelakane.co.uk/scroll3.html
I am quite keen on the idea of a big one page site that you scroll vertically and horizontally.  I am testing some flash content (3 pages down, 1 & 2 across) which works perfectly well in Safari, Firefox, Opera  but I recently tried it in Explorer after loading Parallels on my mac and it does strange things on the row with the flash.
Most people I know have macs so I don't know whether the problem is with my set up or whether PCs in general will not cope.
Anybody any idea why?  I will take out all the flash if it means PCs are going to have problems.
    Thanks.

Well..I went to your site again today and to be yet honest yet again it is SLOW! I have one off the fastest connections to date (for my line of work) and I lost my patience waiting. With today's standards on speed it was slow. I will also hate to tell you that your idea of such a large one page site is not new. This is why the web is what it is today. Studies have shown that users lose their patience with scrolling which is why you are seeing more and more sites even trying to avoid vertical scrolling. If you look around the web you will also notice that content such as text are also getting narrower within pages...meaning that the users eye does not like to travel long distances west to east while reading text. Shorter lines and longer columns of text are much easier to read...much like a newspaper.
Those are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to usability and functionality issues with large one page layouts. I have not even mentioned the issues with mobile devices that it would have (which is the true future for us all web designers).
As far as the new Apple Mouse. Mice have been able horizontal scroll for years so that is nothing new...that is just another case where Apples marketing has made it sound like a fantastic refreshing idea. Just because something can do something does not mean it is good. I have a horizontal scrolling mouse and never use it.
I don't mean to crash your party. The site does look good and I also tested it in IE8 an 7 and seems the flash is ok so I'm not sure of the issue your are having. I think the site would be a much better place in pages.
    Good luck
