Search function freezes Finder - any help?

i recently reformatted my computer. i wanted to upgrade to 10.4 but my disk for it just didn't want to work in my computer, so i simply put Panther back on. i am currently running 10.3.9 and most everything seems to work well. it takes a lot longer to boot up than it used to but otherwise no complaints EXCEPT:
my Search function doesn't work well at all. when i run a search (any type) my Finder grinds to a terribly slow speed or just totally freezes. i can continue to run any other programs, but Force Quit won't even pop up. i have to turn the computer off by hand.
this was a pain but avoidable until i went to install some software yesterday and found that when the installation program began to "search" my computer, the process froze up (despite repeated attempts).
is there a way to get Search back to normal?

Please explainn the procedure you used for this operation.
Were you using a Full Retail Version of the Tiger Install DVD?
How did re reinstall Panther?
Have you run Repair Disk & Repair Permissions?
What size is your Hard Drive, and how much space is available?
How much RAM is installed, and is it original or added?

Since it seems App related, I'm not sure what to offer you. I guess the only suggestion I have is for you to reboot your iPad and then try again. To reboot, hold the power and home buttons at the same time for at least 10 seconds (keep holding past the swipe to shut down bar if it appears) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will restart. You won't lose any settings or data, so it's worth a shot.

Oh no! I'm sorry to see there's a lot of confusion here and data shared, x-rayDon. We can definitely work to fix. This happens when two devices share the same Apple ID, so she will need to reset hers. She can do so by assessing this link Apple - My Apple ID. You will need to decide who will keep the account if want separate Apple IDs since purchases cannot be shared unless you do Family Sharing.

The 'Get Information' button in my printer driver dialog is grayed out. This happened when I upgraded my mac (and macbook). Can't find any help anywhere.

I recently upgraded both my imac and macbook pro to a new mac mini and macbook air. I have a networked (via airport extreme) canon ipf6100 printer that had been working great from my older computers (all running current mountain lion). The new computer's printer driver setups went well and the dialog says its online and ready. The problem is the 'Get Information' button in the 'Main' driver panel is grayed out. The driver cannot read the printer's configuration (i.e. roll or sheet paper) and therefore cannot print correctly. I have tried re-installing the driver (current one from Canon's website) and have tried connecting the printer to USB directly with the same result. I have not been able to find any help on this anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In System Preferences>Fax & Print, Right click or Control+click on the Printers list Sidebar, choose Reset Printing System.
if you hold option and click the "-" tab it resets the printing system.

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions.

Are you following these instructions.
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Source list, and then click Restore.

How to get the search function to find the correct files

i have long wondered if it was me or the system, but i am very clear finally that the search function *****.
1) i try to find a word in a document.
2) the system shows me several possibilities. chapters 16, 18, 21, etc...
3) i then bring up each one individually and search each one. some of them DON'T EVEN HAVE THE WORD OR PHRASE IN THEM THAT I AM SEARCHING FOR. what's THAT all about?
4) so i look at my real life book or search on the web. voila! there it is. chapter 14.
5) i try again. both finder search and spotlight. NEITHER SHOW ME THE CORRECT DOCUMENT. neither shows me chapter 14. they still show 16, 18, 21, etc.
this has always been VERY mysterious.
it has happened hundreds of times over the years.
i am VERY clear now it is NOT me and it IS the system.
what use is it to get a list of documents that do not have the correct criteria and NOT get the document that has the correct criteria?
is leopard as sucky?

i have been cursing this search feature for years.
i often try to find exact words in a particular book
that i have on my computer as .doc files.
and it often does not find what i want and it often
finds what i do not want. so i am very confused.
i went to system preferences. opened spotlight.
there is nothing listed under 'don't search here'...
and i have only a few things listed under 'search here.
i do not understand how that link could help my
problem.
when i search for the word inside a document or
inside a pdf, the programs find the word. but
finder/spotlight does not find it.
i still need more help.

Search Function in Finder is not working

I'm a MacBook Pro User. The problem which I'm facing is with Finder Search function
Its search function is not showing any result. I tried with the know file name and with the known location, but its search command is not working.
eg: I created a doc file and saved it on desktop, then in finder search box I used the same name of the file which I saved on desktop, but its not showing any result.
I have huge amount of data on HD and I want to locate one file which is making my life miserable, and I can not bear my mac to add insult to my injury.

Search function in Reader, please help!!! at wits end!

I have an excel file with multiple columns converted to a pdf.
When using search function in adobe reader how do I get search to
return a line of data from what was column a in excel to column f?
Now it returns partial data from one line and then wraps around
to the next line and returns data from that line also.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

When it goes from Excel to Acrobat, it "prints" the PDF.
As a printed document, Reader knows no cells, columns or rows. Only text.
I've found that if I export an xls to Word and set it in tables, the printing seems to be more compliant when it's printed to PDF and it's easier to work within the original layout's integrity.
That's the extent of what I can offer. I just don't set many excel workbooks to PDF.
Hopefully there's someone else here with more experience doing this.

1. Be sure your drive is attached and mounted.
2. If you have already written any data to the drive, back it up before proceeding to the next step.
3. In the Finder, choose Go > Utilities. The /Applications/Utilities folder will open.
4. Launch Disk Utility.
5. Click the icon for your external hard drive in the sidebar on the left.
6. Click the Erase tab along the top of the window.
7. From the Volume Format menu, choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
8. Enter a name for the external hard drive in the Name field.
9. Click the Erase button.
Make Sure that you choose the correct drive

In answer to your question, you need to be aware that the PHP server behaviors in Dreamweaver CS6 use the original MySQL functions that are scheduled to be removed from a future version of PHP. The server behaviors have already been removed from Dreamweaver CC. If you are planning to create a site using PHP and MySQL, do not rely on Dreamweaver's server behaviors. You must use either MySQLi (MySQL Improved) or PDO (PHP Data Objects) instead.

Automator "watch me do" function freezes finder

As I was creating a new service using the "watch me do" function in automator, my finder froze each time I tried to test the service I just created. As I was watching the recorded steps, the cursor would start to move extremely slowly and finally froze completely. I was able to reproduce this problem several times. This is in SL 10.6.

I am experiencing the same thing in SL 10.6.1. I was testing a very short and simple automator "watch me do" workflow to perform a simple cut and paste between iWork 09 Numbers and Filemaker 10. Cursor did not freeze but began to move extremely slow. The first and second iteration seemed to work okay. But, it took 87 and 108 seconds to complete third and fourth tests. Successive efforts had similar results. This workflow had only one step (watch me do) in it and nothing else. It was also not part of a loop. I was also NOT able to force quit out of this.
I never experienced this with Leopard. Is this a bug or is there something new with Automator in SL that I am not picking up on?
