Secured router - signal dropped to next to zero

I've had this WTR54G for a few years. I used it abroad, and I've been using it here for a few months unsecured.  It was secure when I used it before, but when I set it up in this place after a year of not using it, I had to reset it because I had forgotten the password. I know someone else was using it because I would sometimes get booted off because there was "another computer on the network with the same IP address." I finally had the time during my fit of insomnia tonight to figure out how to secure it.
When it was unsecure, it had full signal. Now, the signal is so weak, I can only connect to it when I'm within three feet of it.
The network was called Lynksys when I secured it. I changed the SSID after I secured it. There is still an unsecured Lynksys network available at full signal, (and I don't think there was more than one when mine was still called Lynksys) but I can't connect to that. When I checked my WIFI setup and I walked my computer to my router, the Lynksys network moved toward the center. And there is a brand new network available called, "You can't steal my internet B----H!!!!!!" on a different line. I'm POSITIVE that one is brand new.
Did I damage the router when I was securing it and changing its name, or is something else going on?

To make any change on your Router... You need to Hardwire your Computer to your Router.... Disable the Wireless Network Connection on your Router... And then make the changes on your Router...
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
Click on the Wireless tab
- Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
- Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
- Set the Wireless channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select TKIP...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone and remember the key.
NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

We use one windows machine and two mbp's (post 2012) at home. We have a modem *** router from a  non apple vendor that airport utility finds and connects with absolute ease. But doesn't stay connected. The signal drops often, what can I do?

No, not all network clients -- only the two mac portables and they run together very rarely. The windows machine is hardwired to the modem router combo, and that's always sailing smooth. The mbp that is most used is perhaps 20 feet max from the router - and in another room. But it also happens when I take in into the same room as the router. On occassion, I have noticed while using network diagnostics, that one digit in the IP number sometimes appears to go awry. I then try to set up manually - and it works for a bit but is hugely erratic.
I rigged a hand me down airport express and set up a separate network for the two macs and it ran beautifully for some weeks, but that little piece is now dead and none of the retailers in my suburb seem to have one in stock. I don't want to be forced to buy an airport extreme and here in India, there's no trustworthy online ordering option.
The man from the ISP's been here several times and I don;t think it is a modem/dsl issue because the smartphone connects and the macbook drops when both are the same distance from the router? I am truly foxed and intensely irritated! :-(

  • AirPort Express Base Station signal drops on and off

My Airport Express Base Station signal drops on and off about every 2 minutes. It’s quite frustrating. I currently have a Windows XP PC, with a Linksys Wireless Router. I’ve taken several steps as prescribed in the support chats to no avail. I’ve switched channels, updated software/firmware (iTunes, Base Station and my Router), reconfigured my security settings to no security back to my regular security settings, I’ve placed the base station right next to my router in case it was due to interference, I’ve used headphones in the event it was my stereo, I’ve changed different utility settings (interference robustness, stream size, etc). I’ve opted to use the option “Create a Wireless Network” versus “Existing Wireless Network” and back to “Existing Wireless Network”. Again, all to no avail. Can someone offer some insight to help solve this problem? The problem is so annoying that I no longer use the base station.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rene
AirPort Express Base Station   Windows XP

Maybe Windows is trying to get an 802.1x authentication which should be disabled:
Ensure that the Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network check box is not checked.

It seems updating Windows XP to Service Pack 2 fixes that.

  • How do I prevent the Airport Extreme router from dropping with DSL when a call comes in?

I just installed a new Aiport Extreme 802.11n router. I am using DSL and it works great until someone calls me. When the phone rings and my answering machine answers the call the router drops and start flashing amber. My old router did not have this problem. Is there an option I can set that will prevent the router from dropping when someone calls me?

The AirPort Extreme should be configured to "create a wireless network" with the same WiFi network name, security type (usually WPA2 Personal) and password as your existing router. It should be configured as connection type Ethernet and be in bridge mode.

  • Bell TV receptor signal drop every 4 min caused by TimeCapsule

I just got my Fibe 50 installed here in Quebec, Canada, and every 4 minutes there is a signal drop. I had 2 technicians coming home and finally we discovered that there is a DHCP conflit between both of them. When I turn off the TimeCapsule and uses only bell router, the problem disappears. Does anybody had the same problem or know if there is any configuration to solve the problem? In the TimeCapsule settings I have already changed to allow 5Hz bandwidth but did not work. Thanks a lot.

If you are supplied a router then the TC has to be in bridge mode.. that is router bridge..
Open the airport utility and make sure in the dhcp and NAT section you have it set to bridge.
Then you can set fixed channels to the wireless that are different to the bell router.. or turn off wireless altogether.. you can still access the TC via the bell router.

  • Linksys WRT330N with Intel Wifi 5100 AGN causing signal drops.

I have been using my Linksys WRT330N for quite a while, and it has been wonderful.  I have 3 pcs, 2 wired and 1 wireless.  The wireless laptop died and was replaced.  The replacement is causing problems and I need assistance finding a solution.  The new laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1545 and it has an Intel Wifi Wireless AGN internal wireless adapter.  My two wired pc's can surf the net without the slightest hicup until the wireless laptop with its wireless N card gets into the action.  Once the laptop gets on, the hicups are frequent.

As you can see the signal drops show as the router resetting.  It was not me unplugging it.  The router as the only firmware which is available, v1.00.4 and the network drivers for the laptop's wireless wifi 5100 card are up to date.  A Dell technitian controlled my laptop and did it himself.
    Any suggestions?

  • Time Capsule wireless signal drops inexplicably

My MacBook Pro is less than a year old. I am online wirelessly via my room mate's brand new Time Capsule router, which is only 15 feet away. The Time Capsule has been here maybe 2 weeks. I always get 4 bars, except tonight the signal drops repeatedly to 1 bar. I can't see any reason why this would happen. I suspect a problem with 10.5.2.

A lot of things can interfere with your signal. A cordless phone operating at 2.4 GHz, a microwave oven, or another nearby access point will affect your signal strength.

  • Routing failed to locate next hop for ICMP from outside:10.60.30.111/1 to inside:10.89.30.41/0

ASA 5505 Split tunneling stopped working when upgraded from 8.3(1) to 8.4(3).
When a user was connecting to the old 8.3(1) appliance they could access all of our subnets: 10.60.0.0/16, 10.89.0.0/16, 10.33.0.0/16, 10.1.0.0/16
but now they cannot and in the logs I can just see
    6          Oct 31 2012          08:17:59          110003          10.60.30.111          1          10.89.30.41          0          Routing failed to locate next hop for ICMP from outside:10.60.30.111/1 to inside:10.89.30.41/0
any hints? i have tried almost everything. the running configuration is:

    Dear Darko,
The problem here is the overlapp issue with the Internal network.
    Since the VPN pool is:
    ip local pool OAKPRD_pool 10.60.30.110-10.60.30.150 mask 255.255.0.0
    And the local network is:
    interface Vlan1
         nameif inside
         security-level 100
         ip address 10.60.70.1 255.255.0.0
So since you have some NAT rules telling the FW that 10.60.0.0/16 is connected to the inside, we need to change that and force it to know that 10.60.30.0/24 is actually reachable to the outside.
On the other hand, yes you could point to outside interface, but is not a good practice.
    Thanks.
    Portu.

  • Airport signal drops randomly

I use Airport Express to connect to wireless Internet. Recently I've had this problem where the signal just randomly drops every few hours - if not every hour. Airport Express is showing a green light.
When I re-start my computer then it still won't show the signal bar at the top. So I basically have to turn-off the computer and unplug the Airport Express to get it work.
I don't have this problem when I use wireless at other places.
    Any advice on this problem?

I think my problem is fixed. You see I was using my airport express as a booster to my linksys, which worked for over a year until recent OS X update.
    The Fix:
Instead of just setting up my express to join an "existing wireless network" , which was my original set up....I opted to use the option "Creat a wireless network" and I gave it another name, and under WDS tap I enabled it as a remote base station and under the "main airport ID" I selected my linksys router. Using the airport express this way, now I have two network names, the name of my main linksys router, and the name of my air express. Of course you get a better signal from one versus the other one depending how close you are. You also need to manually switch to the one with stronger signal, but at least both of them work through out the house, and my airport express has not dropped of for 3 days now. It works. Not sure why, but I am glad it works. If you are using your airport express a signal booster or as a remote base, and you are having your signal drops off, try to set it up this way, and see if it works for you.
I hope apple can shed some light to this issue, and I hope this works out for you

  • Wireless Signal Drops Every Few Minutes; Impossible to Load/Use Chat Client

    Hi,
I have an iBook G4 laptop with an Airport Card installed under the keyboard (I guess it's Express? Not sure). At home, my roomates have a Windoze PC desktop using Verizon DSL connected with a Westell Modem and a Linksys Router for wireless access. This connection seems stable and is always on, as their AIM client is always running and shows no connection disruption. She also has an IBM laptop, which connects wirelessly through a Linksys card, and while I'm not sure whether she has any connection disruption or not, I don't think so or else I probably would have been asked to take a look at it by now Although, it isn't "always on" like the desktop, so I'm not sure.
I am accessing her DSL connection wirelessly, as I've mentioned, through my iBook. When I am browsing the Web however, I sometimes try to link to a page just when the connection is resetting, so I receive the "page cannot be displayed because you are not connected to the internet" warning. If I immediately refresh the page, it usually loads right away. Sometimes I have to reload 2-3 times, but it always works without having to tweak any configurations in Network at all.
This is a little aggravating, but liveable. Except for the fact that I am unable to run a chat client at all, since the signal drops intermittently and the client has to constantly resign on, and holding a chat conversation with constant disconnects would be impossible.
If I had to guess, I'd say the connection resets itself at least every 15 mins or so, maybe more.
I'm wondering if anyone else has any problem of this sort? Do I need to tweak some sort of settings? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you!

I am having a similar problem. I am using a Powerbook G4, with three airport expresses (one per floor on the house). Often, I get a messages saying that I am not connected to the internet and sometimes if I wait it will reconnect and sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, I check the settings on the Airport Express (AE). It seems that the password to get me on the network had duplicated itself so it's now 26 characters long instead of 13. I have two other computers on the network, a PC on Windows XP and a new iMac (when I say new, I mean two weeks old, already out of date PowerPC). ANYWAY, they work fine. I am thinking that they other computers are using signal from the two remaining AEs that are working closest to the base/internet connection.
I put a call into Apple three times and we basically just keep throwing out my system configuration files in my user, and then starting from scratch. So far that has not helped the problem.
I think the most important thing to note is that I have upgraded all three of my AEs to v6.3 and this is when the trouble started.
    Has anyone any solutions?
Also, what happened to the spell check feature that used to be here for posting messages?

  • Logitech security cameras are dropped constantly

Logitech security cameras are dropped constantly. am I just imagining this or did this start to happen when Comcast came out with its own security cameras? I reset my Logitech camera to work through the Comcast router about once ever

Well it sounds like they are wireless, are they?
if they are take a laptop and load the in home agent, and go to one of the locations where you have the most trouble, and run the wifi wizard from that location.
it will find if you have interference and automatically make an adjustment for you, then you can watch and retest it.

  • Signal drop

    Hi,
I recently set up a WiFi network at home. I have an ADSL modem, and so I bought an Airport Express unit to plug my modem cable into. It took 5 minutes to set up and works well....but....
The signal strength keeps dropping to next-to nothing. Safari takes minutes to open. If I reboot, Safari pops up as normal. Downloads run very slowly, and very quickly, and very slowly again.
In my menu bar, the Airport signal icon ALWAYS has all 4 bars filled, so it seems to be working continuously to the same standard. However, the signal is very variable.
I should add, the Airport Express unit is plugged in about 1 metre from my MBP.
Similarly, my iPod Touch signal strength also varies, so I don't think it's a problem with my MBP.
    Suggestions welcome.
    Cheers,
    Martin

Welcome to the discussion area, Martin!
The symptoms you are describing are likely being caused by some sort of wireless interference.
Cordless phones are a major cause of this type of interference because most operate in the same frequency range as most wireless networks. If you have them there, try moving them away from the AirPort Express, or better yet turn them off for an hour or so to see if your wireless performance improves.
Unfortunately, other cordless phones in the area can cause problems as well. For example, my neighbor....across the street...can cause my wireless to slow to a crawl if he's in his front yard talking on his cordless phone. You won't be able to do anything about the neighbor problem, but this is often the issue when you "try everything" and still have problems.
The next issue is nearby wireless networks. I suggest that you download iStumbler to display other visible wireless networks around you. Look for the network and the channels that they are using and compare that to your network. Are there any other network using the same channel or a close adjacent channel as your wireless?
I say "visible" networks above, because most modern wireless routers (Apple included) allow users to "hide" their network, so it can't be detected without more sophisticaged diagnostic tools). Unfortunately again, it's possible that another network that you cannot "see" may be interfering with your wireless.
In that case, all you can do is try different channels for your wireless until you either find clear airspace or run out of channels.
To do this, open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the icons
Adjust the Channel setting to try different channels
Please post back on your progress. There are other issues like microwave towers, other nearby electronics like televisions and amplifiers, etc. The list is endless.

  • Nokia E6 - Signal Drop after every call

    Hi,
I have started to face this problem for the last 8-10 days.
After every call is completed there is a signal drop for about 30-40 seconds. It drops to zero & then comes back to full strength again.
I have updated the phone software to the latest version and still have the same problem.
There is no problem if I use my sim card in any other phone.
Thanks for your solutions in advance.
    Cheers

    Hey,
Thanks a ton...working for me so far for the last 3 calls...
If only you had replied earlier ...it would have saved me from going to the Nokia Service Center, who told me to change my SIM card...which I did as well with no solution. LOL
I wonder where the nokia moderators are ..not even one reply for almost 3 days now..

  • Hi, I was working at home with my iPad, everything was going well. It went out battery and after this I am unable to connect to the wifi at home. Before getting out battery no problem, and now it sees the router signal but it is unable to connect to it.

Hi, I was working at home with my iPad, everything was going well. It went out battery and after this I am unable to connect to the wifi at home. Before getting out battery no problem, and now it sees the router signal but it is unable to connect to it.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • How do I use AO update in the Route signal.vi

    Hi support,
My goal is to create a waveform (to buffer it) and output it using the analog card (PCI-6713) N times and with the frequency F. Apperanlty this is done using a (actually 2) digital counter(s) on the PCI-6602 card.
This is done using route signal.vi using "AO update". However I have not managed to get it working. I only get error -10341. So my questions are how do I do it? More specificly how do I use AO update in the Route singal.vi Do I need to conect the cards in any perticular way (cabels or so)? Also do you have more information about how the vi route signal works (the help file does not help me much)?
    Grateful for all help.
I'm using labview 6.0 as developpement platform, and using the PCI-6601, PCI-67
13 and a PCI-7344 cards. Since the program is quite large I will only send a portion of it, the pulseGen is supposed to generate the waveform (loaded as a text file, also submitted) the digital output used is in case 1 (in pulseGen) the analog output is in case 3. The MissingWaveform.vi is just to ensure that a waveform is supplied to the pulseGen.vi
    Sorry about the mess.
    /Chatri

Cabling and Interfacing between Boards: You have capability for direct simultaneous connection between 6713 and 6602 (also 6601) via the RTSI bus, but you need to get a cable to connect between the boards. You can connect between the boards using the I/O pins of their respective signal conditioning hardware. These connections are slower. There are also PFI (Programmable Function Interfaces) connections that are set within the VI's.
All that said, it is not obvious why you want to use the RTSI. You can use the PCI-6713 to generate AO. Presumably you have some signal conditioning accessory; which ever pin of that accessory the AO appears on, you wire it over to the SC accessory for the 6601 and the appropriate pin for the counter gate or
    source you want to use.
Suggestions: Don't try to work in the context of your big VI for now. Get the AO bit and the counting bit to work together by themselves. Then shoe-horn them into the big VI. Also, consider a call to the NI help line. They are very good. 800.433.3488 (800IEEE488)
In case you hadn't noticed the DAQ cards and Counter/Timer cards come in different flavors and there are specific example VI's to suit. 6602 uses NI-TIO chip, but PCI-671X are DAQ-STC. Again the NI help people are good at catching this kind of stuff.
Your question is rather large and hard to manage. Perhaps if you break it down into small chunks the advise will be more free flowing.
