Security enabled distribution list in SharePoint

Hi All
How can we create a security enabled distribution list in ShrePoint 2010?
Does it means creating a SharePoint group with an Email ID and assign a permission to that group OR creating an Account in AD?.
If we assign an Email ID to that group in SharePoint whether that account will be created in AD automatically
Any Help on this would be highly appreciated
Regards
Mahesh

I got the answer for that,Here it is,
There is a distribution list you can see and use in outlook, but when you search for the same list in SharePoint it doesn’t show up in the people picker.
Chances are that the distribution list is not security enabled. This would need to be done by your domain administrator. He would need to change the ‘Group Type’ of the list from ‘distribution’ to ‘security’. Once this is done your SharePoint administrator
would need to run a profile import so SharePoint can pick up the change immediately (alternatively you can let SharePoint automatically pick it up during its scheduled AD crawl

Does anyone know of a decent script to mass create and mail enable distribution lists?  Either by excel or csv?  Thank you.

    Hi,
You can check the repository for pre-written scripts:

If you can't find what you're looking for there, there should at least be something you can take to start writing your own.

  • Mail for Access Request to O365 SharePoint site not received if a mail-enabled Distribution Lists' email address is provided.

I have the Access Request feature enabled in my O365 SharePoint site. This functionality is working fine for a single Site Owner's Email-ID and he is receiving the mail in his Outlook with an option to Approve/Deny the request. But when I specify the Email-ID
of a Distribution List (which consists of all the site owners), the mail is not sent to their respective members although the corresponding request is listed under the Pending Requests in the Access Requests list in Site Settings. Why is this happening and
if this not possible, kindly suggest a workaround.

can you specify the DL name instead of the email?

  • How to create a security group to manage a Distribution list in exchange 2013

    Hi folks,
We have AD synced with Online Exchange 2013. Dirsync is installed on AD. We would like to create a security group for a Distribution list(for instance: distribution list name is [email protected] and it is managed via a security group named "abc" ).
How can this be achieved? I do see an option under Online Exchange console using browser-> Groups to create a new security group but it doesn't allow me to add the group created in AD-instead it ask us to create a new one. If we create a new one in Exchange
online console- will it publish to our local AD?

    Hi TR,
    Thank you for your question.
Are there any errors when we could not add group which is in local AD.
When we could not add group which was created In AD, there are following options we could check:
If current user who logon Exchange server has enough permission to add it
The connection between Exchange server and AD
If we create a new DG in Exchange online, it will be published to local AD.
We could run the following command to create DG for abc.com:
New-DistributionGroup -Name "abc" -Alias abc -Type "Security" -MemberJoinRestriction open
We could refer to the following link to learn more about distribution group:

If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

  • Cannot expand distribution list if message moderation is enabled

    Hi all,
Trying to find a solution to resolve a problem(or it is a bug?) in Exchange 2010 with Outlook 2010.
Users in the company often expand distribution list. After migration from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010, i found that if i enable message moderation on distribution list, they cannot expand the list anymore and Outlook said that unable to expand public
    group.
If i remove moderation on the distribution list, they can expand without problem.
Someone have a solution to this?
    Thank you very much.

    Hi John,
    My Exchange 2010 Version: 14.01.0218.013
It's on all DG who has moderation enabled.
No expansion server is set. (I tried to define one but still have the same error message in Outlook).
    I dont understand.
The expansion server is a transport level feature, so it should not affect Outlook.
Is Outlook in online or cache mode?
Does it happen with both modes?
Is a manager configured? Does it fail no matter what moderation option is chosen?

  • Unable to manage Distribution list membership since moving from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010

    Hi,
We have recently started migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010.  One of our customers used to be able to manage a security group through the outlook address book.  This is a mail enabled security group where the customer is on
the "Managed by" entry and the "Manager can update membership list" is ticked.
Now that the users mailbox has been migrated to Exchange 2010, if they try and modify the membership using outlook by finding the group in the address book they get the error "changes to the distribution list membership cannot be saved. you do not have
sufficient permission to perform this operation on this object".
I have now added a test account to the managed by entry on the security group to test the problem.
    I have followed the article
http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2009/11/18/3408844.aspx that explains how to use the EMS to give users the right to amend groups that users own.  I did not run the script but entered the following commands:
    New-ManagementRole -name “MyDistributionGroupsManagement_Test” -parent MyDistributionGroups
    Remove-ManagementRoleEntry “MyDistributionGroupsManagement_Test\New-DistributionGroup” -confirm:$false
    Remove-ManagementRoleEntry “MyDistributionGroupsManagement_Test\Remove-DistributionGroup” -confirm:$false
New-ManagementRoleAssignment -name “MyDistributionGroupsManagement_Test-Default Role Assignment Pol” -role “MyDistributionGroupsManagement_Test” -policy “Default Role Assignment Policy”
All appears to have worked ok and I have seen no errors while doing this
If I use OWA and then use the ECP, I can now see the "Public groups I own" but no groups are listed.
I have created some new distribution groups in Exchange 2010 (One dist list and one security group) to test and added the test account as an owner of both and a member of both.  I still cannot amend the membership using outlook address book and the
ECP still shows no groups under "Public Groups I own"
I have seen a number of articles on how to do this and it looks like I am doing everything right and it has worked for plenty of other people.  I just don't know what's going wrong.
I would be very grateful if anyone can help.
    Matt

    Hi Rajith,
I deleted the outlook profile and recreated it but this did not work.
I have now created a brand new mailbox on Exchange 2010 added this to the "managed by" section of the Exchange 2010 dist lists and I still get the error.  I also do not see the groups listed when logging in as that user to OWA ECP and clicking on the
    Groups link.
I had a look at the link you sent me and I could see that from the Exchange server when I opened the User roles to get to the ECP, clicked on Roles and Auditing and then User Roles the only policy applied is "Default role assignment".  When I select
the details for this, under Distribution groups, "My Distribution Groups" is not ticked but my new one that I created "My DistributionGroupsManagement_Test" is.  So this looks ok.
    Any other ideas?
    Matt

  • Cannot "Send As" a distribution list in Exchange 2010

I'm trying to enable some of our users to send email as one of our distribution lists in Exchange 2010, and I cannot get it to work.
I have granted the users "send as" permissions on the distribution group in ADUC, both individually and as members of a security group. I also did the same using the "Add-AdPermission" PowerShell cmdlet.
I have ensured that the distribution list is visible to the GAL.
I have cleared Outlook's nickname cache.
I have tried waiting the specified two hours for Exchange settings to update, and I have also rebooted the Exchange server itself.
I continue to get bounce messages with "You can't send a message on behalf of this user unless you have permission to do so."
    What can I try next?
    Thanks,
    Jason

    Hi Jason,
I have a test in my lab. Here is the steps for your reference:
    1. Open Active Directory Users and Computers on Domain Controller. Click Users -> right click the distribution group -> click Properties -> click Security.
    2. Add the user that you want to grant "Send As" permission to the list. Allow the "Send As" permission.
    3. Click Apply, and then Ok.
Besides, we need to wait some minutes to take it effect.
    Hope it helps.
If you need further assistance, please feel free to let me know.

  • Distribution list, duplicate alias

I accidently deleted AD object for distribution list.
When I create distribution list from
"Chage group Settings" page and set "Create an e-mail distribution group for this group?" to yes, I get "The Directory Management Service reported the following error: Duplicate alias." I tried to delete distribution list from Central Administration -> Operations -> Approve/reject distribution groups, no luck either.
I tried stsadm refreshdms and got:
    Error in application.
    Any advice?
    Thanks,
    Young

    Brij,
Thank you so much to take time to reply. Here is the result:
Please check if you have any groups listed under Central Administration > Operations > Approve/reject distribution groups when you select "Delete Requests" view. If yes, please delete them.
I tried this before I posted my question. I tested this and found two things:
    1. A group doesn't get deleted if AD doesn't exactly match the data. Here is the situation. When I tried a distribution group called "IT group", unfortunately "IT group" contact email distribution existed. Of course, SharePoint gave me an error; somehow "IT group" appeared on Directory Management Service Approval List.
    2. Even I delete a group and the group disappears, I get the same error. One group for this post, I created one and accidentally deleted AD side.
Do you have OU created for these contacts and distribution groups in AD (Active Directory)? if yes, please delete this group from OU and see if that helps.
No OU has been created for this group.
Also check OU for any contacts ( created for email enabled lists/libraries or for any other purpose) with the same name(alias), which you are assigning to a distribution group. This seems to be the strongest possibility of the error message you are receiving.
So far; no luck. Couldn't find any group with the same name in AD.
If I create and delete a group, it works perfectly on all sides. Still looking for a solution.
    Thanks,
    Young

  • Import Distribution Group into SharePoint as "Audience"

I've been searching these threads all day for a solution, and I haven't located one that answers my question...
We are creating a SharePoint3 site which will have 4 different departments as the audience for it.  Due to the ingress and egress of employees & contractors, both onshore and off, attempting to maintain individual users
and permissions will be incredibly difficult.
Is there a way to add the Distribution Group into SharePoint so that all those people on the list can be provided access, with the same permissions, and maintained along with the DG?  There will be little to no emailing from the site itself, we just
need a way to import the staff without having to do it manually.
Can this be done? And if so, can you help guide me through the process?
    Thanks in advance.

Are you sure you want to use an audience? Audiences are for showing/hiding information, but are not to be used as a security boundary (permissions).
You can instead set up Active Directory Security Groups, then add those Security Groups to a SharePoint Group (or even down to individual lists/items). Add/remove members from the group (using ADUC, etc.) to allow/deny them access to the site.

  • Comparar colunas de duas listas do Sharepoint 2013

Pessoal, minha dúvida é a seguinte:

You can achieve in many ways, using InfoPath/Workflow/EventHandler etc.
The most effective way is transforming the list form to InfoPath form because other approaches only trigger after the data insertion in List A and no way you can prevent that if SCN does not match. But with InfoPath you can put a check before data instertion.
    My approach is stated below...
    1. List schemas...
      List A
Social Security Number | Single line of text
Term  | Single line of text
Person Name |  Single line of text
Registration Number |  Single line of text
     List B
Social Security Number |  Single line of text
Person Name |  Single line of text
Registration Number |  Single line of text
    2. Convert the listform of List A to InfoPath
    3. Add secondary dataconnection of List B...do not autopopulate at form load
    4. Disable default Submit and set the form with button submit using rules
    5. Add rules to submit button...
    Rule 1
Action : Query using data connection to List B
    Rule 2
Condition : If Any occurrence of SSN of List B is equals to SSN of current item in List A
    Action :
Set Person Name in List A from List B where (List B)SSN = (List A)SSN
Set Registry Number in List A from List B where (List B)SSN = (List A)SSN
    Submit using data connection
    Close the form
