"send error report" when I try to open iTunes

Whenever I try to go to iTunes, it tells me it won't work and that I should send an error message. I've reinstalled and it still does this. It said the problem has to do with quicktime.

is that an "itunes has encountered an error ..." message, wumbo?
the first thing to check for with one of those is a broken quicktime. does your QuickTime currently launch, or does it give you an error message when you try to launch it?
if your QT gives you an error message, let's try a careful standalone QT 7.0.4 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.0.4 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.0.4 Standalone Installer
if the install goes through okay, will your itunes launch properly?
keep us posted.

Thank you for clarify I'm supposed to read the ENTIRE article. I thought I was just supposed to read the title and magically everything will fix itself. I appreciate you taking the time to help me however I do not appreciate the caps and the way you have addressed the situation. If you are not going to kindly help people/make suggestions just don't try! And for the record my conclusions are not illogical, the iOS7 thing is on the website in small font (which I got by reading the ENTIRE thing) and you should really find a new hobby because your socialization skills need some help! • Error Message when I try to open itunes

When i try to open itunes it gives me the error message "Windows cannot access specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item" It was working fine yesterday afternoon and this morning i got this message.

I didn't mean do the devices work, I meant does Itunes work if they are plugged in.
Could you confirm that you have a default installation of iTunes and that you do not use the server for itunes?
If not then it sounds like something got corrupted and may be it is worth trying a full removal of iTunes and related programs followed by reinstall.
Here is a method for doing this including cleaning up if any of the uninsatlls fail. *if you are unable to delete any of the recommended files or folders report back with details*.
    == uninstall with cleanup ==
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Save the files on your PC.
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
(To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install)
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

OK, then tell us the text of the error message and give us the following information:
    Operating System/version
    Processor
    Photoshop version number
    Amount of RAM installed
    Hard drive(s) free capacity
    Video card make and model

  • Error report when I try to use iTunes

    Hi,
A few days ago I was trying to work out how to get a different modem to work with my computer. I got a friend to try to help me and we did a few things which didn't work. (I later bought a new modem which is working fine.) Either way it could be irrelevant as he assures me we didn't do anything to cause this.
Whenever I try to open iTunes (and, incidentally, QuickTime and Trillian, too), I get that annoying Error report window popping up (you know the one, where it asks you if you want to send an error report or not), and iTunes doesn't open. I uninstalled it and re-installed but no joy. I did a scan for viruses and got rid of a couple of things. Still no joy.
    Can anyone help?!

Hello?! Just wondering when someone will answer my
question - I'm getting desperate! Thanks!
    This worked for me!

  • Help Plz--I get an error message when I try and open iTunes

My PC crashed and I had to reboot to factory start ups. Luckily, it kept all my files including my iTunes library. The problem is that everytime I try to open iTunes I get a message saying iTunes had encountered a problem and needs to close. I tried reinstalling the iTunes software but it still says the samething. Does anyone know how to help?

I removed iTunes and downloaded the new version but I'm still getting the same message. Do you think it's a problem with quicktime? The only other thing I can see is that I had some Japanese music and the Kanji has been changed to little squares in my library. Could one of those be the problem?

  • HT1338 my macbook crashes and cant send error report, when i try, it says "error report failed"

My macbook crashes and when I start it again, there's a crash report and I click on send to apple, after a minute or so it says failed to send to apple. It has happened many times and I think it's getting worse since I can't send any reports.
    What should I do?

    Hello Firah,
Don't worry or even bother sending the report, Apple doesn't want to hear about 10.5.x at all... if they eer did.
Copy & Paste a few lines here, maybe a couple dozen, we'll take a look.

      Windows XP

    hi SENSEIMACK!
    error number:0x80040707
description: DLL function call crashed: QTInstallCode.code.QuicktTImeUnInstallProc
that's a known complication of a broken QuickTime. in this context, it usually means the installation configuration information of the QuickTime has been compromised.
    here's what we'll try first.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next use the QuickTime component of the complete uninstall instructions in the following document as a guide to a manual removal of leftover QuickTime program files and folders.
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or QuickTime software in Windows
once we've got all the existing QuickTime scraped away, let's try another careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall. (the link i gave above to lizabler actually goes to a 7.1 standalone ... that showed up for us yesterday afternoon.)
does it go through properly this time? if so, does your itunes launch properly again?

  • Run time error message when I try to open itunes?

I cannot open itunes afte using it for 3 years.  I receive a run time error message.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT) as you start iTunes, then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turing off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.
