Seperate storage server for DMS

Hi,
we are in sizing for a DMS project for our ECC 6.0 system. Could you suggest some names of saparate storage server for DMS ?
SAP K-Pro ?
IXOS ?
Tivoli ?
Where can I find a list of certified software ?
Regards.

Check your ERP installation discs. You will find the SAP content server there. Install it and then point CSADMIN at the repository and you are done.
ERP comes with it's own content sever that can be installed on a separate box. No need to buy more.

  • Using a single Content server for DMS and also for Archive link documents

    Hi,
We have Planned for a single content server for managing the documents in DMS, parallelly as DMS Standard SAP objects are not available for all SAP transactions, i have proposed for making use of SAP Archivelink funtionality to maintain the documentations where Std SAP DMS does not provide a Solution.
    so here the question is
can a single content server be used as a content repository for Both DMS and archivelink,
can any one having done this pls state if it is possible to create different or Many Content repositories for DMS, Archive link in the same server,
is this a virtual creation or can we assign each repository a specific storage space which it should not exceed.
    Thanks and regards
    Sathish

    Hi sathish,
-- Through the ArchiveLink docuemnt Management interface, an SAP sytem can use various content servers as storage media. similarly, one contnent server can be used by multiple SAP systems.
-- A Content server always has a single database assigned to it. A database can therefore be used by only one content server.
-- A databse is split into as many repositories as necessary. The design of the repository is mapped in the SAP system.A repository contains documents.
Depending on your requirements,(if u have limited documents or with low requirements)  you can use the same content server for both DMS and Archivelink.
The number of documents stored on the content server is limited only by the size of the database.
Its better to have an external content server for archiving purpose, if your database size is increasing. Since the archiving systems storage is not dependent on the database.
U can also refer to the below thread :

    hope this helps....

  • Sharepoint 2007 as content server for DMS?

    Hi,
Knowing Sharepoint 2003 is not able to act as DMS content server.
Does any know if the new Sharepoint 2007 has this function to act as DMS content server?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Ronald

    Hi Espen,
iam also coming across the same requirement where in client is already using SharePoint as a common document Managing software,
in your Case as You have solved the Problem, did you buy a new server and installed content servewr in it, and integrate it to Share Point server?
or did you use the Same existing  share point server to install content server on it,
i guess in that case there will be duplication of all the Original files,
one, the original file is Available in the Share Point server. and Secondly, the same original file is checked in into the storage catagories if the same share Point server is defined as Storage medium for SAP DMS, ie same Share Point server acting as Content or Archive server.
please help me in Understanding the things clear iam little bit confused,
Alternatively to access the Documents in the Share Point server and Store the same original File in the Content server (or it can be the same SharePoint Server acting as Content server(installing the content server CD on the Share Point server)). can we go to create 2 Datacarrier and Datacarrier types,
one to Bring the original document from the share point server to the DeskTop of the User.
second to check in the Same document through SAP transaction CV01N, here again should we define another Data Carrier and Data Carrier type, (like the share Point server or Content server used again to check in the original Through SAP DMS CV01N,
iam  confused as i have only worked on storing external files which is in the Frontend system in to an Content server only,
    Points for Sure,
    Thanks in Advance,

  • Server for DMS

    Hi there,
In case we suggest the client for a differrent DMS server looking the size of the document that they are going to work on ........ do client need to maintain each DMS server linked to Production , Quality & development server.....
I mean that they will have to maintain 3 servers related to DMS linked with respective R/3 system ....
    Please suggest me
    Regards
    Kaushik

    Hi,
DMS is not a separate server, it will available in ur R/3 only, only thing is U need to have separate content server to keep all ur physical files, so that data retrival will be fast and there no much extra load on ur SAP server. To achieve this, follow some steps,
    1. Install Content server
    2.Create Content repository
    3. Create storage category in content repository
    4. U need to send certificate to r/3 server, throug which both ur content server and ur r/3 server will communicate each other.
contact ur basis team for  installation of content server, once completed u need above configuration from r/3 side.
    Reward points if useful

  • Seperate storage server

i am new to DMS configuation, and now I have a task to enable DMS service. My situration is the SAP server space seems not very well, can i set files stoarge in another storage location. Thanks!

    Hi manoj,
    sorry if iam interfearing
    1) Some client are not kneen on going for a new Content server, as if the Documents are stored in Content server, iam not sure the content server will allow access of the stored document with out Logging in to SAP, can you please clarify if i'm wrong.
    2) if at all the common server is used for storing original files it has to be defined as Vault, if iam right, so as told by you how will it increase the load on SAP DataBase?
    3) in this case,  if document are stored in Vault with out SAP CV01N checkin, (like normal window copy in system) can these original files be Accessed or viewed in SAP.
ie... there are some files in the Vault server kept there physically for many years can this documents be Accessed and viewed in SAP transactions, or they have to be checked in through SAP to view them in SAP.
    please Clarify

  • Difference in storage method for DMS and Services for Object

    Hi-
Our R/3 version is: 4.7 Enterprise.
In most (if not all) of the transactions users execute, there is a feature where they can attach a file using "Services for Object" from their PC to the associated record (i.e. material master, purchase orders, service notifications, etc.)
What I would like to know is where the document is stored.  From what I found on help.sap.com it says that it is a link from the user's PC.  But I would guess it is storing a copy of the file as a blob on the R/3 server somewhere.  Is this true?  Or is there a risk if the user's harddrive dies, that the file is no longer available for viewing?
I am trying to determine the difference between using the Services for Object feature vs. DMS and setting up an object link for the specific object type (i.e. material).
    Thanks!
    -Jenn

I found the following about Services for Objects:
    Business Workplace
The documents that were appended to an object using Create attachment and Create note are stored in the Business Workplace. There, for example, you can make settings for where the documents should be stored (R/3 System or Web Server) and which document classes may be loaded in the SAP System (for example DOC, but not EXE).
Sending is also carried out internally using the Business Workplace. Messages are created that contain a link to the object as an attachment. By double-clicking on the attachment, the users can call the default method of the object. This is normally the display method.

  • Using DMS Content server for Archiving HR documents

    Hi SAP Gurus,
with the details gathered from the forum we could suggest the client to go for Archiving there Documents for storing there HR related Documents, like Resumes, salary hike litters, leaves etc....
but as we do have DMS here and intending to get a Content server for DMS, can we use the same content server for archiving the HR documents also,
or the other way round if we go a Big archiving server, can we store DMS documents there using it as Content Server,
    Thanks and Regards,
    Priya S

Yes, you can use the content server. Just create an ArchiveLink Repository on the server and you can use it for HR.

  • What storage solution for backups?

    austin janey wrote:
would recommend you to look into building your own storage server for the backups that runs some form of dedupe and scrubbing something like btrfs would be really nice or zfs if your savvy to it. BtrFS does dedupe?

Most of these devices are designed specifically so that you can add additional JBODs. It depends upon the configuration, but usually the new disk system will be connected to an external port, so it's just a case of adding to the existing setup. The maximum numberthat you can addwill again depend upon the original device, but most of them support multiple boxes. However, I would also suggest that it's worth checking to see if some of the backups are no longer required; and don't forget to test the backups to make sure that you can actually recover. Although this may sound crazy, I know of a place where they were backing up about 60 TB; and when I asked, they had performed a check in sometime other than to restore a single file or folder and insisted that this was sufficient evidence that it worked. When they had a major problem with two...

  • Netwearver WAS version 640 of the content server for PLM DMS

    Hi,
We have SAP R/3 4.7 version & have implemented PLM-DMS with content server on WAS620.We are contemplating to use distributed content server for our requirement. Has anyone used multiple content servers? if so, could you please share your experiences.
Also, if anyone has anyone upgraded the content server to version 640, i would like you to share your experiences with me.
    Thanks,

    Sap R/3 4.6C - CS630 (patch-lvl15)
We do not use SapDB or MaxDB to store the document on the content server, we store the documents directly in the file system.
Our Content servers run on win2003 servers.
In my company we've currently got 15 different content servers in 10 countries.
We've got one content server and one cache server at each location for one SAP system. One physical server has 2 content servers and 1 cache server. One for our SAP production system and one for our SAP Quality test system. They use the same cache server (first we created 2 cache servers, but it was not possible for SAP to destuingish between the two, so both cache servers got used by both SAP systems)
We have also implemented a couple of add-ons:
    1. Conversion and viewserver (by Seal AG). conversion server converts office documents to pdf when documents are released. Currently use only 2 conversion servers, planning to increase when the volume gets larger.
Viewserver adds stamps on pdf-files when you view or print a document.
    2. Document Distribution Manager (by CENIT AG). Makes it easy to schedule prefill of cache. Also possible to move documents from one storage category to another. And Rules for transfering documents from one site to another can be made (Ex. "not allowed to move files larger than 20 MB between <certain> sites")
Perhaps I could be of assistance?
BUT, anyway, the reason I post this is because I have problems upgrading my CS630 (lvl15) to CS640 (lvl6).
Asked SAP via an OSS, and they said it was like a regular patching (stop webservice, copy *.dll files, and restart webservice). But when I try this, I can't get contact with the content server via CSADMIN in SAP. I get "HTTP error: 500 Internal Server Error"

  • Storage issues for Proxies using Final Cut Server

    Hi there,
we have a fairly high amount of material that is just being put into Final Cut Server to be archived again.
I dont mind the Xserve being busy to create these proxy files, but they tie up too much space!
(Maths: 500 GB / 40 h of DVCAM footage result in more than 100 GB proxy files).
We have those 40 h running though more than once a month plus a whole LOT of material from the last 2 years - and our Xsan is only 7 TB in size.
Although we could theoretically buy another fiber raid this solution is not really future proof - it just pushes the time when we have to buy the next one a couple of months forward.. on top of that I cannot afford to have expensive, fast fiber channel storage used for proxies of files that are long archived and have only very limited use (and IF we need them, stick in the archive device and done).
Any ideas how to get rid of proxy files from archived assets?
I dont really want to take pen and paper and delete the proxies of the files by hand from the bundle.. dont think FCSvr will like this either.
    thanks for any advice
    tobi

So I'm not sure how your math is adding 100GB of proxy files
Are you creating VersionS and/or Edit Proxies of everything?
I ask because using the default Clip Proxy setting gives you file sizes similar to the ones below. These numbers aren't accurate because the default Transcode setting uses Variable Bit Rate (VBR) encoding for both video and audio, but assuming you had a relative constant 800kbps stream here's how large your Proxies.bundle file should be
    800kbps * 30secs = 2.4mb
    800kbps * 60secs = 4.8mb
    800kbps * 60secs * 60min = 280.8mb per hour
    280.8mb per hours * 40= 11.2GB
Also note, that deleting an asset from FCSvr doesn't delete the proxy files so you could have a lot of proxies left over from a few historical scans.

  • Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Client restore for UEFI Bios Error

My surface pro 3 has been backing up successfully to a Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials for months now.  I now need to restore the Surface Pro 3 to backup created last week.  However I cannot get  the Surface Pro3 to boot from the
Recovery stick created by the Recovery Tools task.  I also can't get the Surface to boot from an external dvd drive.  The Surface seems to just ignore the External DVD drive.  Maybe there is a problem with it.  I will try it somewhere else.
However the error I get trying to boot from the USB is the following.
    Window Boot Manger
    File \EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD
    Status: 0xc000000d
Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.
How do I fix this issue and get the Surface Pro 3 to restore from backup?

    Hi,
Please try to disable secure boot in BIOS and check Enable Legacy Option ROMs under Advanced Boot options to resolve the issue.

  • Server Config for DMS

    Hi All,
We're having SAP ERP ECC 6.0, and are going to implement DMS soon. Can anyone guide me about server configuration required for the same.
Can we use 32bit servers for DMS and integrate it with existing 64bit servers for ERP?
    Ashish

    Hi,
DMS is part of ECC 6.0, you will only need content server to store DMS documents. It is possible to use 32 bit content server which talks with SAP (your 64 bit install) through http protocols. You need to plan one server for content server, on the same server you can install TREX search engine provides the RAM permits it.
