Serial number problems and lack of apple store

so a couple of days ago i posted saying that my keyboard was pretty much ruined, and that certain keys i need to type in my password don't work, so i'm sort of blocked from entering my computer. i let it dry out, followed all advice...but i think it's done for good. i tried hooking up the only mac keyboard i could find, but i was one of those old yellowish beige ones with the round connector plug with the pins sticking out of it (i'm not so technically inclined, maybe you've noticed).so that didn't work. the computer just acted like there was nothing attached to it.
so i've decided to give in and buy a new one. new problem (yay)...my serial number doesn't seem to work. i found it, in the battery niche on the right hand side, following ''S/N''...so i'm assuming it's correct...but when i type it on the order-a-replacement-part page, it says its unverifiable. i don't think it's bad to post a serial number on the web (it's not like people are going to call me in the middle of the night on my computer), especially when it doesn't seem to exist according to mac, so here it is and maybe someone smarter than me can tell me if there is something obviously wrong with the format or something...

with the 0 i've tried both 0 and o (like...the letter and the number) and neither worked.
another problem. i'm in switzerland, there are no apple stores. and reading apple's free phone help policy (or whatever it's called) kind of scared me because i doubt i qualify for any free help, seeing as this computer's at least 4 years old. so i'm a little afraid to call apple, and there is no email helpline that i can find. anyone here able to help me?
powerbook titanium g4   Mac OS X (10.3.2)

Hi, helveticallas. You're in a difficult spot. The old Mac ADB keyboard can't be used with a Tibook, and I hope plugging it into the S-Video out port (the only one on the Tibook that its plug might might physically fit into) didn't do any further damage to your machine. You can't do any testing with that keyboard — only a USB keyboard would be useful.
Knowing nothing about the availability of Mac parts in Europe, I can't advise you on finding a replacement keyboard through any third-party vendor. I assume there must be such vendors in Europe, but I don't know for certain. I will try to round up some advice for you from European contributors to these Discussions, but I can't guarantee anything.
The serial number you posted may be removed by a Discussions host; posting serial numbers here is generally Not Done. I copied and pasted it into the search box on a href=http://www.apple.com/support/>this page
and recieved the following information about it: "Our records indicate your estimated date of purchase was 14-Mar-01. Based on this data, your product is not covered by Apple service warranty. Please register this product today."
Apparently your Powerbook was never registered, or its serial number was entered incorrectly when it was registered. The estimated purchase date is based roughly on the production date associated with the serial number you posted here, whether or not it's actually the number of your PB. I know it's possible to register a Powerbook under the wrong serial number, because I've done it myself (by mistake, obviously). Having it corrected after I discovered the problem was a bit of a hassle, but it eventually got sorted out.
In any event, your four-year-old Mac is not covered by any warranty, and you aren't entitled to free support from Apple for it, especially after spilling liquid into it (which wouldn't be covered even if you still had a warranty). If you want to talk to Apple about it, you'll have to pay whatever Apple charges for such calls in Europe — there's no way around that. Here are Apple's Swiss contact phone numbers:
Switzerland
(French) (41) 0848 000 132 www.apple.com/chfr/support
(German) (41) 0848 000 132 www.apple.com/chde/support
Han on for a day or two to see whether anyone else shows up with better ideas about where you might order a keyboard.

  • Serial number problem and downloads

I had to do a hard re-set of my Centro to remove Versamail since the Palm OS can't recognize the GoDaddy cert on our server.  When I attempted to reload my bonus software, namely documents to go, the program said my serial number was not valid.  When I originally installed the software last December there was not a problem with the serial number being recognized.  I have tried every imaginable combination of "O" and "0" in the number and with all caps and no caps.  Nothing works.
    Please help.

Hello and thank you for using the Palm Help Forums!
    Strange....
Well, I do apologize for the inconvience. If it helps there are no "O's" in any Palm serial number. They would be zeros. You may need to talk to godaddy if it's still not recognizing your serial number correctly.

  • My speaker isn't working is this a common problem and will the apple store replace my phone for no charge?

I play a lot of music on my phone, for about a week or so my speaker was cutting out. Then day before yesterday it cut out again and won't work for ringtones or anything.
I was wondering if I'm the only one with the problem and of I took it to the apple store would they fix it/ replace my phone for me.

is there no sound from the phone at all? i'm just checking because many people think there are 2 speakers on the bottom of the phone when in fact there is 1 speaker and 1 microphone. also, have you tried resetting the phone by holding the sleep/wake button and home button until the phone restarts? does it have sound thru the headphones? sometimes the phone gets stuck in headphone mode and you can try plugging and unpluggng the headphones a couple of times.

Are you buying from the correct Print Products Store?  If you are using the wrong store, your AppleID may not be valid.
Is the Print Products Store set correctly in iPhoto Preferences > Advanced?  It should be set to the  same country as your billing address and delivery address, and match the settings of the Apple ID you are using.
And you are using iPhoto '09 or '11, right?  you can no longer buy books from earlier versions.
When you reenter your settings as LarryHN described, don't forget to enable Express Checkout. It is required.

Hello, Eva. For CS4 problems, you need to ask in the Photoshop forum (this is the Photoshop Elements forum). It's here:

  • Aperture 2 install - serial number problem

Disclaimer: I'm pretty good on a pc. Absolutely terrible on Mac, never had so many problems with tech :/
So...I have my serial number from the back of the Aperture 2 "Installing your software" booklet. Checked that I'm entering "I's" not "1's." Got dashed between the sequences. Capslock on etc. Searched forum, quite a few posts on serial number problems. None matched.
Enter serial number. Second window pops up stating I've entered an upgrade serial number (I only have the expired trial version of Aperture installed), and requesting my "serial number."
I'm lost now. Checked my original docs, there's nothing on Aperture trial version. Fired up the trial and I see what looks like a license key (to Apple, not me) on the launch screen. That's not accepted by Aperture 2.
    Any thoughts on this appreciated.

    M_Austin wrote:
Thanks, think you solved this Wish the label said something like that, the box only says Aperture 2, not upgrade license. So I'm guessing I have to pay $199, and keep this $99 package to upgrade it? I hope not. I'll ask at the store.
There is a tiny label on the bottom edge of the box. Mine says "Aperture 2.0 Retail". The tiny label on my box for Final Cut Express 4 says "Final Cut Express 4.0 UPG". Does yours not say "UPG" on that little label? If not, you should be able to return it for the full version (plus pay the difference, of course). If it does say "UPG" you might be out of luck as most open software can't be returned.

  • According to our records, this serial number is registered to another Apple ID.

I bought an iMac from an ARC thrift store that had been donated.  When I try to register the iMac to my AppleID to see if there's any Applecare left I get the message "According to our records, this serial number is registered to another Apple ID."
So how does one register/re-register a device that someone else no longer owns?

You will need to contact Apple by phone and get your issue resolved.

  • Aperture forgets it license and asks me for the serial number over and over again

    Hi,
This is getting ridiculous to the point where I'm thinking of just ditching Aperture.  It's continually forgetting is license and asking me for the serial number over and over again.  I have the original serial number and an upgrade number when I upgraded to v3, but right now, it's not  accepting either of them. What's going on and how do I fix it permanently?
    Thanks,
    Rob

Rob, have you upgraded to Aperture 3.4.3? This is supposed to have fixed the serial number problem:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1610
    About Aperture 3.4.3
Addresses an issue that could cause a licensed copy of Aperture to prompt for a serial number with each launch
Be sure to enter the serial number, when you are logged in from an account with Administrator priveleges - otherwise can it not be stored.
Aperture is installed for all users on your mac, so the serial number is written to the system library, not the user library, and this requires read/write access for administrators. Do you enter your serial number using an administrator account?
When did this start? Have you migrated your system from from another mac? Then you still may have an older ProAppSystemID file  or Aperture cannot write to the System Library.
To stop Aperture asking for the serial number, first check, if you still have an old file "ProAppSystemID" in your System Library.
    Quit Aperture.
Go to your MacintoshHD and open the folder "Library", then "Application Support", then "ProApps".
Remove the File "ProAppsSystemID" to the Desktop, if it exist and restart Aperture.
Reenter your serial number, hopefully for the last time.
Sometimes Aperture writes this file to a temporary directory, when it cannot write to the Library. If the above does not work, look at the temporary directory /tmp
    Use the Finder's "Go" menu
Go > Got to folder    and  enter /tmp into the textfield. If you see the file there, move it to its proper location.
In this case you may want to repair the permissions on your system drive; you can do this using the "First Aid" tools in "Disk Utility" (located in Applications > Utilities)

  • Aperture was originally installed from the app store, now its asking for a serial number. how do i download the serial number or reinstall from the app store?

Aperture was originally installed from the app store, now its asking for a serial number. how do i download the serial number or reinstall from the app store?

The App Store version of Aperture will never ask for a serial number so something got confused on your system. Did you ever have a non App Store version of Aperture installed? Did you download the trial version for some reason?
You can try moving Aperture from the Application folder to the desktop and then going to the App Store. Log in with the same Apple ID you used to purchase Aperture and you should be able to download it again.

  • Goods receipt MB01 with serial number problem

    Dear MM Experts,
Iam a PM Consultant and this problem faced me while doing goods receipt from external maintenance order so i will appreciate any help regarding this issue,
In serial number profiles i did the stock check indicator to give an error message if there were incosistinces in stock data,
    now this is the scenario:
after doing an external maintenance order and creating a PO with reference to the maintenance order PR, and also entering the specified serial number in the PO:
    1) Goods Issuing: i used MB1B with movement type 541 and as the serial number already exist and not wrong so it didnt show any error messages and by checking the stock data in MMBE the material was in stock provided to vendor.
    2) Goods Receipt: when using MB01 with movement type 101 and when entering the serial number of the material it gives an error message ALTHOUGH it is the same serial number issued and the same serial number in the PO
This is the error message :
Stock data of serial number G081 not suitable for movement
    Message no. IO231
    Diagnosis
The current stock information for the serial number G081 contradicts the stock information of the movement to be posted. The following stock information is valid for the document and the serial number:               Batch Number Stock data Serial data   C2
Only the first different field for the stock data/serial data is assigned. However, further data may also be inconsistent. To determine whether this is the case, you can start an analysis.
    System Response
Two system responses are possible (set using Customizing): If the case of an error occurring, the assignment of the serial number to this posting procedure is not possible. In the case of a warning, you can, if necessary, transfer the notification.
    Procedure
Assign a serial number which corresponds in your stock information to the stock data of the posting. You can display the serial numbers which can be used using Select serial numbers.
    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
A possibility to fix serial number status is by running the report RISTEQ07 in SE38 transaction. Please run this report as mentioned in the SAP Note 316868 (point 2).
While running the report please consider following points:
The report does not set any locks on the records to be corrected, in other words, the report should only then be executed in the correction mode if the master records (within the client) are not being used in another (changing) access.
During the search for inconsistent serial numbers, the system assumes that the stock segment is correct and the existence indicator might be incorrect.
In the correction mode, the existence indicator is adjusted (depending on the existence of the stock segment).
The report provides a test option (LP_TEST); if this option is active,  the system only checks whether inconsistencies exist. Corrections are  only carried out if the test mode is deactivated. Option LP_EXTD for the enhanced check should remain deactivated for the first run. In particular, if no inconsistency is recognized, the run should be repeated with the activated option.
Another possibility is to create/post a physical inventory document for the affected material and serial number.
Determine which material serial number is really on stock (physically on stock). You can do this, by either analyzing the history of each Serial Number or by carrying out a physical inventory.
Before posting the Physical Inventory the stock validation of the serial number profile of the material has to be switched off in OIS2 transaction (if it is switched on).
When you do this, you will get a Pop-up, please read the long text and execute the report RISERNR9 which is mentioned there.
After executing this report the inventory can be posted. When this is done please switch stock validation on again and execute report RISERNR9 again.
Perform this inconsistency correction only when you are sure that no one else is working on the system otherwise it could lead to more inconsistencies while the stock validation is switched off. Check SAP Note 612132 for further details.
In another words, you have to:
    Create a physical inventory in MI01 transaction;
    Enter a counted quantity in MI04 transaction;
Define each serial number to each qty on stock.
I hope this information helps you.
    Good  luck,
    Fábio Almeida

    Hello,
I'm looking at the same problem here. I found the table SER03 in which you can enter the the material document. This returns 1 line in this table and from this one you need the OBKNR element
You can copy this data and paste it into table OBJK element OBKNR and this returns all serialnumbers for the relevant material document.
My problem is that i can't get these items on the sapscript. (WESCHEINVERS 1,2 or 3)

  • Serial number problem with CS6

This morning, after running for over a year, the serial number that came with the copy of CS6 that I bought last August stopped working. I got an "invalid serial number error" and that was the end of CS6. I tried getting help from Adobe, but to no avail. The website was full of deadends or irrelevant pages. When I finally got into the chat cue, and I still don't know how I found it because I haven't been able to find it again, after an hour of waiting I had to go to work. With only 9 other people in line ahead of me.
So I've uninstalled and reinstalled CS6 twice, but it keeps telling me I have an invalid serial number. It is the serial number I registered with Adobe last year and that has worked since then. It is the same number that shows up when I look up "installed products" in my AdobeID account. Regardless, it is now inexplicably invalid. I found a post suggesting I run CC Cleaner. I did it--twice. I also adjusted file folder permissions on the Adobe program folder based on someone else's advice, but neither solved anything.
My impression is that it isn't an installation problem but that due to a mistake on Adobe's end, maybe due to an Adobe or MS auto update, my serial number now really is invalid, though it is paid for. This would mean there is nothing wrong with my installation, but just the serial number. With that in mind, and also that I don't want to deal with the aggravation any longer, I bit the bullet and bought...another copy of CS6. That's right, I will have paid twice for one copy because of a problem that is likely Adobe's fault. Congratulations Adobe! I came onto this forum so I could get an answer to the following question: who do I send the bill to? Who at Adobe reimburses their users when this kind of thing happens? If customer support had been better I might have been willing to hang in there while waiting for a fix, but it is obvious that none of the options available are made to assist customers so much as to drive them away. If I had known of an alternative software that could replace PS, Illustrator, and InDesign, I would have bought it instead.
    AP

I know I won't get reimbursed, the question was rhetorical.
I bought the software through my university supplier of all our software, so it is legit. The point is that I paid for it, I should be able to use it. If it doesn't work, there should be a way to tell Adobe. I wouldn't be angry about it now if not for the fact I couldn't even send the information to Adobe.
This same thing happened with my copy of IBM SPSS and QVR's nVivo X10 software. The problem is that the way these software keys are installed happens to be very sensitive to system changes or even updates on the other end, at the developer's servers that maintain licenses. I understand why they have the keys, but the way they are implemented ruins the user experience for me. When I spend about two weeks every year fixing software glitches like this, that's my whole Christmas vacation , they need to improve the software because it is becoming more trouble than it is worth.
I wish there was a competitor for Adobe because I would love to spend my money there, even if it costs more, just to switch to another application and remind Adobe that their monopoly on the market could crumble if the customer experience starts going south.

  • How can I get my serial number for my iPad from Apple?

My iPad 1 was stolen and I need the serial number but the box is not available to me at this time. Does Apple have the serial number?

Having the serial number does no good.  Apple does not attempt to track lost devices by serial number.  Of course if you are trying to fill out an insurance form for reimbursement of a stolen device, then that is another matter.  It all depends on where you bought the device.  The seller would have to have a record of the sales, one that includes the serial number.  Contact the seller.  Better still, search for your receipt.
