Hi, does anyone know when AIR is going to support serial port connectivity? Or is there a link that shows upcoming features for the AIR roadmap?

das this version of the JDK support the access to the serial port (OS --> Windows)??

I mean does it support the access to the serial port, after installing the javacomm20-win32.zip ?
Or is there any other posible solution to my problem?
Does anybody know if a new (or updated) version of the javacomm20-win32.zip does exist, or if a new version of this "programm" will be released before july ?

Serial port access time slows in version 6 to 7 upgrade

Hi - I am in the process of upgrading an project from LV 6 to LV
7, the serial port access works well in LV6 but after the
upgrade, the serial port access is slow in LV if the application is
compiled into an exe. We are running Windows 2K on all machines
and have installed the LV7.0 runtime engine on the PC that is running
the executable. If I run the application on a machine that has
the full LV7.0 development software on it, the executable runs
just like it used to under LV6.0
What am I forgetting?? The application is built into one exe that
has all of the sub vi's included. I have checked the box on the
application builder that says included serial port support.
Help! - We have 3000 PCBs sitting in manufacturing waiting to go to test until I solve this problem

I just recently finished a project in which I had to upgrade code from LV 6 to LV 7.1. After I did that the serial port actually worked but all the Fieldpoint devices that were connected to the system didn't work. The problem ultimately was the NI Fieldpoint Drivers. After I installed the newest drivers from NI everything worked perfectly. I don't know why your problem is occurring, but I wanted to reasure you that there isn't a problem with the serial ports when upgrading to LV7.1 (I don't know about LV7).BTW, I had LV6.1 development system installed on the computer, but didn't have the LV7.1 (All I had was an EXE file).
So, try installing the newest drivers. Maybe that can help.

After a long process of doing an application that runs a serial port connection to a server and upload a file to it, i could'nt find the comm package that i could download for both MAC and Linux.... There is one for Windows and Solaris though... So i was wondering, is serial ports not supported by MAC and Linux. And if not, what other than the comm package can i use to have serial ports on those 2 platforms .......

Unable to capture data from Serial port using LVRT2010 in single core pentium 4 machine

I am using application written in Labview using windows Labview
Runtime environment 2010. Application creates a tunnel to intercept data from
Serial port.
My problem is, Currently, I am using single core Pentium
processor. When I am trying to intercept the data between COM1 and COM7 (COM 7
is a virtual port) it is not able to capture data.
When I am running Labview RT environment using dual core
processor machine it is running normally. I wonder whether it could be the compatibility issues with
single core Pentium processor.

Using a serial port under j9.. How?

I am trying out j9 on an ipaq. I am trying to get javax.comm to work.
When I call CommPortIdentifier.getIdentifiers ();
I get java.lang.string.NoSuchMethodError: java/lang/String.<init>([BIII)V
It would appear that the javax.comm package was implemented using a now deprecated String method, and that IBM has chosen not to implement deprecated methods in it's j9 vm (I get the same issue trying to run swing.)
One would think that what is needed is an updated javax.comm package. However, there doesn't appear to be a javax.comm package on Sun's site, let alone an updated one. Whats going on here? Can someone give me an idea of how Sun and/or the JCP thinks about developers who want to use serial ports?
Is there a workaround? A different way of talking to a serial port? Or should I abandon j9? I should add that I got my software running just fine on nsi.com's creme vm (javax.comm and swing too) and it worked without any hassles. It even understands jar files (is there a reason why IBM insists on having a link file?). However, the reason I persevered was that a) j9 is cheaper and more importantly b) nsi.com don't seem terribly keen on actually selling their product. I have lots of references to them selling their vm in bundles of 40 ($1000) which is a bit ouchy but hey I'm not paying for it. But, you'd think the nsi.com people would actually confirm this on their site?
So.. can it be done? And why, in the world of embedded systems (my field) and now lots of phones and pdas, is so little attention given to the humble serial port? It doesn't matter how fancy the protocol is, underneath it all is a UART. grumble

Java ME 8 Permission check failed when opening a serial port

I have a larger Jave ME8.1 application that was going well until I tried to add one last piece, reading and writing data from a serial port. This was left to last because it is trivial, at least in most programming languages. The is IDE NetBeans 8.0.2 running on a Windows 7 PC. The platform is a Raspberry Pi B or B+ (I have tried both) with the most current Raspbian (12/24/2014 I believe). To simplify the process I created a new app with just the open and close code and this generates the same error I am experiencing in the larger application. The program is as follows:

I have tried this with three different serial ports, /dev/ttyAMA0 (yes I did disable the OS from using it), an arduino board /dev/ttyACM0, and a USB to RS485 adaptor /dev/ttyUSB0. All of these ports could be connected and use normally with both a C program and terminal program in the Pi. The API Permissions were set in the project properties / Application Descriptor / API Permissions to jdk.dio.DeviceMgmtPermission "/dev/ttyAMA0". This of course was changed as I tested different devices.
I found a reference suggesting adding the line "authentication.provider = com.oracle.meep.security.NullAuthenticationProvider" to the end of the jwc_properties.ini file. This had no effect. I found references that during development in eclipse and NetBeans, the app is already elevated to the top level so this should not be an issue until deployment. This does not appear to be the case.
I am out of time and need a solution quickly. Any suggestions are welcome.

hi this is madhan. i m using lenova g560 ideapad. there is no serial port in my laptop. For my project i need a serial port. i heard tat in market USB to serial port converters are available. Does Lenova g560 support this change?? If so is there any driver to make support to serial port?????????

If you buy a Serial-USB interface/cable you won't have any problem. Usually this accesory comes with drivers. If you have Windows 7, mayte it will detect all automaticaly.

How to access the serial port on sdk 3.1.3 ?

I know that accessing serial port is not possible on firmware 2.x for non jailbroken iPhones.
But what about firmware 3.0?
Apple has focused firmware 3.0 on accessories, through bluetooth or through serial port. So, accessing serial port should be possible.
But I can't find any documentation / sample code for that.
Would you please help me?

Connecting direct to serial port

Hi to all!!
I need to connect flash direct to serial port to send and
receive data.
I know that i have to look for some API, but all that i fund
is some other software to do the interface, but i realy need is
distribut only the flash and not the flash and other software...
There is a way to connect direct to serial com?
If yes, how it works, were can i found information to do
this??

Flash to serial port

I have a piece of hardware that I need flash to react to
through a serial port. Does AS support this natively or will I need
to build a dll to handle this communication.

You may want to look into flash remoting, which would allow
you to push content to the flash movie. You could then write a
proxy between the source of your stream and flash the remoting
server.

Serial ports in Solaris 10

Hi all. Please help me to solve my little problem. I need to get serial ports names (com-ports) registered in my system. In Linux I use command "dmesg | grep ttyS" for that, but in Solaris dmesg output don't contains any data about ttya, ttyb etc...
And also one question. Does Solaris support USB->COM adapters, I have plugged adapters Prolific and FTDI, but they don't work.

Regards, Alexey.Talking extremely loosely, expect to find com ports as /dev/term/a , /dev/term/b ......
You may also file the 'tip' program appropriate on solaris.
This may be sufficent for you to progress ... or it may be you need something else.
I have not done these things recently ... and ohers may guide mor eauthoratively and better.
