Server or Peer to Peer?

I am running a small business and am going to be switching to Mac from PCs running on a network.
We only will have 3 computers that will share an accounting file and share printers.  Is it a waste to get a dedicated server vs. just peer to peer networking the Imacs together?

You probably do not need a server for just 3 machines. However without any real information what I'd STRONGLY recommend you do is visit your local Apple Store and request to speak to their Business Specialist. They can help you tailor a complete solution that will fit your needs.

  • SAP Business One 8.8 running on a server with Peer to Peer

Can SAP Business One 8.8  be install and run in a server with a Peer to Peer Operative system?

You have more than one Oracle Release on the Server. hence more than one ORACLE_HOME.
Check which is your default ORACLE_HOME on the server and check which of the homes PERL5LIB environment variable is pointing from both command prompt and in Windows.
That could explain the funny bahaviour. If you change ORACLE_HOME, that could help.

  • Is there any way to get total peer to peer PSTN calls report for a particular duration in Lync Server.

From monitoring report I can find complete peer to peer audio calls details but I would like to get a report of only PSTN calls. How can I get that report.

    Hi,Askwizard,
Great you figure out it by yourself!
Yes,the audio call details provide different types of audio call details and you also can additiona call details report, check

  • SQL Server Expres 2008R2 on Windows 7 peer to peer network using MS Access to connect - ODBC Login Timeout

    Hello,
I have had a Microsoft Access database that was running on Windows XP against a SQL Server 2000 database.  We are running on a peer to peer network.  This all worked fine.  Recently I upgraded all the systems to Windows 7 and the Access database
to Office 2013 and setup SQL Server Express 2008R2.  I am running into strange problems trying to connect the access database to SQL Server Express.
SQL Server Express was setup with mixed authentication mode.
What is strange to me is that if I run the Access database on the same server as SQL Server Express 2008R2, everything works fine. However, if I run the Access database from a separate system (Windows usernames and passwords are identical on all systems
for all accounts).  I get a spinning circle, then after 5 minutes or so I get an error box that says "Connection Failed SQL State S1-T00 - ODBC Login Timeout Expired.
I click OK and then there is a ODBC login box,  It has trusted connection  box checked.  So, I just click ok and everything runs fine.
I have checked with the Access database the ODBC connection string (How do you change this to imbed a username and pwd?) and the connection specifies that trustedconnection = yes.
I have tried setting the odbc connection up to use a SQL Account, I have setup all of the security in SQL so that Windows accounts have access and either works on the system that is hosting the SQL database.  But when I try to connect from a separate
machine we have to wait with the timeout and then click okay.
    Any Ideas.
    Thank you!!!

I have TCP/IP and named pipes.
I will take a look at the kb article.
What puzzles me is that odbc connection is set for trusted connection, the access database is set for trusted connection.  But yet it seems that it wants to do a SQL authentication.  Then it fails, and then if you simply hit okay to do the Trusted
    Connection then it is fine.
I will read about setting the UID and PWD in code.  Been a long time since I have done that, but very doable.  Then see if the Access DB is setup with the UID and Pwd in the odbc connection string, then switch the odbc connection to be a SQL Server
connect, then maybe it will work..  Crossing my fingers.
I will be back on site next week and will give it a try then.
I will check the ports, but suspect they are fine as it works fine after it has it timed out and you hit okay to connect with a trusted connection.
    Thanks for your ideas.

  • Creating Peer to Peer connections using intermediate server

I want to connect two clients (via TCP/IP sockets in Java). The clients can discover each other using an intermediate server. Once the clients discover each other, there should not be any involvement of the server.
I made some study about this and found many people suggesting JXTA. But I'd like to create the protocol myself from scratch (because in future I might have to implement the same using WebSockets as well (when my client is a Browser)). Currently, my clients can be Desktop applications or mobile applications.
    My questions are:
    1. How will clients discover each other at the server? If the server sends the global IP address of the clients to each other, will that information be enough to create a peer-to-peer connection? What if the clients are on the same LAN network and the server is on a different WAN?
    2. Client have dynamic IP address. Can their IP change all of a sudden even if it has an active socket?
    3. Is peer-to-peer connection is reliable for transfer of non-continuous data (like in chat application)?
[*NOTE*: by peer-to-peer connection I mean establishing a client-server TCP/IP socket connection by making one of the client as temporary socket-server]
    Thanks in advance.

two clients (via TCP/IP sockets in Java). The clients can discover each other using an intermediate server. If you only have 2 clients, it's hardly worth putting a server between them; a client 'discovering' the server is as much work as one client discovering the other.

The local firewall has one VPN configured and the remote has 2 (1 working and the other not): Local Firewall is Base licensing with 3DES.  As far as I can tell they have the same VPN parameters but maybe the remote has pfs1 turned on?  Ive played with various settings and cant seem to get it to work.  The cryptomap has the same firewall rules in it (obviously reversed on remote). Any help much appreciated!  I Have a third site doing exactly the same thing (once again also works on another site to site but not this one).  It's weird because I used the IPSec wizard and got it to work and rebooted the ASA and tunnel came up yet again but now my debug log is just full of this info and tunnels never come up.....the only time it was up was for a few hours then wont come up anymore...odd..

  • How to make a peer to peer connection in a network using sockets

My Project is about a multi agent meeting scheduling system.. I've kept the DB in the server and I only use the server to retrieve data from the database. I have used sockets to communicate with the server.
Each peer in the network is an agent for a perticular user and these agents will be communicating with each other for negotiation purposes..
The problem I have is that, I couldnt communicate wit other peers using sockets.. I couldnt find any sample java code of sockets to overcum this problem.f sumone has a sample code plz send me.
And if there is a more efficient and easy way I can connect these peers except sockets, plz tell me and if u have a sample java code plz be kind enough to send.
This is my final year project in the University
    Thank you

    Hi Sajinidesilva,
I think you'll find more support in the [JXTA Community|https://jxta.dev.java.net/] for your project. Also, there's an interesting article to start with : [Introduction to the Peer-to-Peer Sockets Project|http://www.onjava.com/pub/a/onjava/2003/12/03/p2psockets.html].

  • Windows 7 Home Premium Peer-to-peer network over a switch

Sorry for asking such a basic question here. I am trying to setup a small office network. There are 5 computers all running Windows 7 Home Premium. Using a switch I want to connect all 5 together. I have a software package running on PC1, which will contain
a database. The other four computers, (PC2, PC3, PC4, PC5), will have a client running on them that will be able to access the database on PC1. I also have two printers and a router for internet access.
I have pulled the cables, managed to cap them correctly (tested them with a cable tester), and have connected the PC's to the switch via the cables.
I have looked on the internet for how connect the PC's together but I am getting confused, between all the videos and websites mixing XP with Windows 7 and Vista and wireless to cross-over and and and.....
Could someone please let me know what I need to do next?

    Hi,
In a peer-to-peer setup, every computer are both client and server. each computer communicates directly with others in the network. It's much more common in the home.
You need have a router (possibly with wireless capability) and the necessary Ethernet cords to run the router to the modem and from the router to all of your computers.
Then add them in the same workgroup or HomeGroup.
Here is a detailed guide, please follow that step by step:

  • PEER TOO PEER WITHOUT SERVERS

I was intrested in making a peer too peer program that would act as client and server. I already have a server program and a client program, but the problem with this is that the client must know the servers ip adress. So I would like a program that I run, and somebody else runs anywhere else on the world so that the program could detect the other persons ip on the net, is there any way to achieve this by every host acting as a server and a client together and scanning a range of ips, could that be possible.

Imagine that you want to telephone your friend, but you don't know what her telephone number is. What do you do?
    1. Start dialing numbers at random until she answers.
    2. Find a telephone directory and look up her number.
    3. Contact her some other way and ask her what her number is.
Choose the ones that make sense, then translate them into your problem space.

  • How to create a program that enable peer-to-peer connection

I'm currently doing a college project which is a instant messenging system. The system will have the client-server network and peer-to-peer network. The client-server network part has been finished but i still facing the problem to write the code to enable two pc communicate with each other by using a server that use in the client-server part .
I very hope someone can help me.
    thank you!

    Hi,
I think that i can help u in this respect.
Let me see what you are suggesting.
You have two or more servers which need to be aware of on another.
you have clients which can be connecting on any of the servers.
you need these clients to be aware of each other.
well....to do this you need to take a lot of factors into account.
    1. you can use a central server and redirect accordingly.
    2. use distributed servers.
this is the more difficult part as you need to keep track of the server timezone.
you need to keep track of the up and downtime of your servers.
when servers are up or down you need to distribute clients accordingly.
The second approach is more robust and known better as load balancing.

  • Can we disable/avoid peer to peer traffic?

We have dozens of offices which all connect to Lync 2013 in a central datacenter via edge.
Most offices have two ISPs - a cheap high-bandwidth option (typically cable modem) and a pricier, low-latency EoC or bonded T1 connection.  We use static routes to ensure that traffic bound for the Lync edge and reverse proxy interfaces goes over the
low-latency line.  The default route is the cheaper line so all web/email/etc traffic goes out over that.
This works great except for peer-to-peer calls and video calls, which of course go out over the cheaper line and often experience quality degradation.
Is there a way we can force these peer to peer calls to instead route through the edge and avoid this issue?  The extra load is less of a concern than the call quality issues.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Please note that: As a general rule, Quality of Service applies only to communication sessions on your internal network. When you implement QoS, you configure your servers and routers to support packet marking; however, you configure these devices to support
packet marking in a particular manner. You cannot assume that Quality of Service will be supported on the Internet or on other networks. Even if Quality of Service is supported on other networks, there is no guarantee that QoS will be configured the same way
that you configured the service on your network.
More details about QoS in Lync Server 2013:

  • RTMFPTurnProxy for peer to peer communication in proxy connection

Which server ip i have to mention in mms.cfg against Rtmfpturnproxy either the fms server ip or the deployment server for peer to peer communication
For peer to peer communication, it is said to add a variable RTMFPTURNProxy in mms.cfg and assign the value the ip address of the turn server. The mms.cfg file is not in the specified location in my windows 7 system. It is mentioned that Flash Player only supports IETF BEHAVE TURN draft 8, not the current TURN RFC. So i create the mms.cfg file with the UTF-8 format in textpad and add the function RTMFPTURNProxy and assign the value of the AMS server ip. Still I could not connect to the server and received NetConnection failed message in proxy internet connection.
My doubt is which ip address the RTMFPTURNProxy should refer. The AMS server or the application deployed server or something the assigned public address. Should I need to do anything regarding the mms.cfg file. What are the conditions I need to check for peer to peer communications in proxy connection? My heartfelt gratitude for any helping mind. Thanks in advance.

The provider system in soamanager must have the same name as in table BBP_BACKEND_DEST field SLD_SYS_NAME (System Landscape Directory Name).

    Thanks

    Hi Ajay.G,
I’m writing to follow up with you on this post. Was the problem resolved? According to your description, the error 2812 usually occurs in the following situations.
    1. The stored procedure which you executed does not exist.
    2. If it does exist, it may occur that you do not fully qualify the procedure name. Or the procedure is not owned by the user attempting to execute it.
    For more information, see:
How to: Configure Peer-to-Peer Transactional Replication (SQL Server Management Studio).
There is a similar issue about error 2812, you can try to clean up the database from any replication settings on the publisher and distributor, then recreate publication and check if it can succeed, You can review the following post.

  • Windows XP connecting Peer-to-Peer to Windows 7 with HP LJ 4000 through USB-2-Parallel port

I am running a Peer-to-Peer network and cannot connect my Windows XP computer over the network the 'quasi-server' running Windows 7 that has a connected HP LaserJet 4000 printer connected via a USB-2-Parallel port.  The HP LJ4000 works just fine from the Windows 7 box (and serves ONLY as a backup printer) but connecting from either Windows XP PRO boxes will not work.
I have tried opening the Windows 7 Printers window and then updating the printer drivers, like it says it will, and that fails as well.
    ANY suggestions would be appreciated!
