Server OS migration

Hi,
I have a file and print 2003 server deployed on a VM. Would like to migrate to 2012R2. Is there a source where is can get a step by step method ? Please suggest.

Hi,
You can't upgrade (in-place) straight to Windows 2012 R2. Since you mentioned you are running virtual you could stand up another VM with 2012 R2 OS and then migrate the roles you have from the 2003.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn303416.aspx
For shared folders you can use robocopy and preserve share and ntfs permissons. For print server i think there is  backup and restore/import but i am not very sure.
If you are on DFS then you could add the 2012 R2 server as namepace member, but here there is more to talk depending on the configurations you have.
Hope it helps.

Calin

Project Server 2013 migration workspace error
    Hello all,
I have just completed my Project Server 2010 to 2013 migration. All look OK until I tried using Project Professional 2013 and opening a project with about 25
Users (Enterprise Resource) . Opening took about 7 min. I tried creating a new project with 5 users and still took longer then is should.
I decided to run the below command and I received a lot of errors about missing workspace.  Please help if anyone can.
    Thank you in advance !!!

  • Server Replacement - Migration Path?

    Hello,
I currently have 2012 R2 deployed with the Essentials role installed and configured. The server it is deployed on is coming up on end of life, with a new server on its way. What are my options in terms of migrating from the old hardware to new? Any guidance
available on this? I think I see the following choices:
    - Just move the hard drives to the new box and pray to the PnP gods
    - Install new server in migration mode, deploy and reconfigure various features to suite
-- Would be resource intensive, and require a change to data paths (as it would be a new machine name)
    - Stage a temporary swing server for identity data, promo down existing server and remove from environment, promo up new server
    -- Install/reconfigure functionality as required
-- Could keep existing name/IP address
-- Restore from backup could be a tangent to this, though I'm not 100% on how well the restore would work.
Any thoughts on this are appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
Based on your description, I understand that you want to migration from old server to the Windows Server 2012
R2 with the Windows Server Essentials Experience role installed. Please refer to the following TechNet article and check if it helps you.
Migrate from Previous Versions to Windows
Server 2012 R2 Essentials or Windows Server Essentials Experience
If anything I misunderstand, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
    Hope this helps.

  • Exchange Server 2007 migration

    Hi everyone,
I have exchange 2007 server with all the roles installed on single server.
I want to do the transition from exchange 2007 to exchange 2013
Please do provide me with necessary articles and screenshots.

  • Exchange active sync cannot connect to server after migration mailbox user from exchange 2007 to exchange 2013 coexistence

Hello, everyone, my name is rafl
I have a problem with exchange 2013 active sync.
I have installed exchange 2013 coexistence with legacy exchange 2007, I have to migrate user mailboxes: [email protected] from exchange 2007 to exchange 2013.
but any problem with active sync connection on the mobile device after moving mailbox user. I reconfigure the exchange ActiveSync external connection domain (latest.domain.com) on mobile device replacing legacy exchange ActiveSync external connection domain
    (legacy.domain.com)
the process of moving mailboxes successfully without error.
Access OWA for exchange 2007 and exchange 2013 is running normally
access mail from Outlook running normally
Certificate request has been installed and has no problem with it
The OWA virtual directory is configured for internal and external connections and different from the legacy exchange
The autodiscover virtual directory is configured for internal and external connections and different from the legacy exchange
ActiveSync virtual directory is configured for internal and external connections and different from the legacy exchange
user mailboxes are still on exchange 2007 is not problematic.
only problem with Exchange Active Sync on mobile devices, where I set up an email with android, iphone, windows phone. the error message: cannot connect to the server.
but, if I create a new user and create user mailboxes directly in exchange server 2013, ActiveSync can run without error on mobile device, access through OWA, MsOutlook, Outlook Anywhere also run normally.
only the results of user migration from exchange 2007 to exchange 2013 which is troubled with exchange ActiveSync connection.
any ideas for this problem, and what should I check on the exchange server ..?

i have run the activesync test connectivity and get some error :

  • What to do when SLS - Lion Server Upgrade & Migration Fail

    Hi everyone,
I've had a tough time over the past week trying to updating my SLS to LS. (It was a slow week at the office so despite the warnings in these discussions I wasn't disturbing anyone, so I thought I'd try...) Both an upgrade to the current running system and a clean install on a wipe of that hard drive stall at the "Configuring Services" "Upgrading services" screen of the set up process. The migration path eventually fails, and as far as I can tell, it seems that the upgrade path just stays there forever.
Don't worry - I'm doing this all on a Super Duper! clone of my primary drive, so I can go back to SLS whenever I need to.
BUT, I can tell that the server's status is at least partially okay, even in this stalled setup state - iChat seems to work on various clients, and I can use Server Admin to see stats and services, etc.
So despite the discomfort of a failed install, part of me feels like I'll be fine with the LS if I can just figure out how to move my old data into the right places for the new system to use it. But I can't find any guidance for that. I'm looking to migrate OD (seems to have migrated fine), iCal, iChat, Address Book, Wikis, Time Machine, and File Sharing (which should be trivial to set up, I reckon).
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks very much,
    Willhaus

Okay, so I've had some marginal success.
After leaving the hung install for a ridiculous amount of time (24+ hours), I realized that I could click the help button, and from the help window click the "further info about Lion Server" link to launch Safari. That gave me access to Software Update from the Apple menu, which then let me install the latest Safari update which conveniently enough requires a restart.
After restart, the Server Migration Assistant kicked in again, but failed quickly in the upgrading services stage. Another restart, and the sever finally booted more or less normally.
The strange thing was that although chat services worked fine during the hung install, all OD-related services stopped working after restarting. Turns out there were no users or groups in OD. Importing them from an OD archive, though, restored them.
So now iChat works great (even the old chat longs migrated successfully), and AFP is properly sharing our volumes across our studio's network. So our server is limping along.
The other services we need that aren't up yet are Wiki and iCal. Some info about those:
Wiki: administrators can log in and see all wikis just fine. That's awesome because it means the data migrated successfully. Any non-admin users can log in, but are then get a wiki-styled page that says simply "No wikis found". It's as if they don't have permissions to see the wikis, even though in Server.app they belong to the groups that the wikis are associated with. I've tried removing and re-adding users to groups, but that doesn't seem to do it. Any ideas how to fix this?
Calendar: While I can't get this to work, it's not like it's completely lifeless. An account in a client Lion iCal configured with the proper Lion settings returns an error that reads:
"The Server is Busy or Unavailable.
"The server at myserver.com is currently unable to handle the connection for account “ Calendars” due to a temporary overloading or maintenance of the server. If this continues you should contact the server administrator.
"You may try to connect to the server again or take the account offline."
As a logged in administrator, in a wiki clicking on Calendar in the nab bar goes to the calendar style page with an unending dialogue box that reads "Getting events from server". And clicking on Calendar from Home page footer takes me to the URL https://myserver.com/webcal with an error that says:
    "Service Temporarily Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.
    Apache/2.2.20 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.20 OpenSSL/0.9.8r DAV/2 Server at myserver.com Port 443"
Again, at least I'm confident that the data migrated properly -  I can find all the calendar data in it's proper new location - but either the service won't start or something's not configured correctly. I've tried chaining the hostname and restarting the service about a billion times. I've got no idea what to try next. Any ideas?
    Thank you so much,
    Willhaus

  • Howto deploy a temporary exchange 2013 server for migration between two Office 365 accounts?

    Objective:
We plan to migrate our office 365 from our current tennant (E3) to a new tennant (M) to drastically cut our annual costs for the same services, while retaining the mail and group memberships of all our users. This will involve installing an exchange server
to download and upload mail from the old tennant to the new tennant.
    Background:
We are a longtime O365 customer, and have been a customer since before the "Midsize business" plans existed. There is no "cookie cutter" migration path from E3 to M. Microsoft currently recommends deploying an MS exchange server and off-boarding
the mailboxes from your E3 subscription and then On-boarding them to a new account under the M plan.  As ridiculous as this is, this is indeed the path our company has decided to go. It isn't cool/fair that we're being shackled to the E plans (that are
vastly more expensive) when we're a small/midsize business that has been a longtime customer of O365, while new customers of equal size to us can expect to save over $4000 annually. The services (when compared) offered are nearly identical.
After calling MS support several times for guidance for this issue, I am advised that we should contact a 'partner' and ask for their support in doing this migration. We did as requested and were provided a quote to the tune of approximately $15,000 to do this
migration for us. Obviously this is unacceptable, and thus our business has decided to rely on my abilities to get it done. Again, involving an MS partner is not an option.
    Environment:
    1 MS AD domain:
    - Original FQDN was @contoso.ca of this domain and UPNs were [email protected]
    - UPN has been changed to [email protected] to allow for ADFS
    - ADFS has been deployed and SSO works for all users with UPN [email protected]
    - An "On-Prem exchange server" does not yet exist
1 O365 Account where main tennant FQDN is @corp.com
    - There are 5 registered domains
    -contoso.ca
    -corp.com
    - contoso.legacy.ca
    -deprecated/will be deleted
    -deprecated/will be deleted
    - There are 40 E3 licenses, all using a @corp.com UPN
    - There are 5 E1 licenses (we acknowledge that these will be upgraded to an M following the migration) that use the UPN contoso.legacy.ca
    - No accounts currently use contoso.ca for email
    - O365 was upgraded to 'the latest version' sometime in summer 2013.
    Migration Plan (High Level):
Setup a local windows server (trial license)
Deploy an exchange 2013 server (trial license) on the aforementioned windows server  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/hh973395.aspx
      Prepare and deploy Dirsync Deployment
    of Dirsync
Add exchange to office 365 and begin replicating the mailboxes from the cloud to the exchange server. Wait for synchronization to complete.
    More information: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh534377(v=exchg.150).aspx
    http://help.outlook.com/en-us/140/ff633682.aspx
Evaluate total time it took to sync data.
Time it takes to download data to exchange should be relatively similar to time it takes to restore mail to the new service.
Open a new office365 account under the M plan.
Plan a 1 hour mail & contoso.ca domain login outage
temporarily change all user UPN's to match the new tennant
perform a dirsync to the new tennant
disable dirsync after all accounts have been auto-created/provisioned
      re-establish UPN + mail access.
Plan a date and time for the cut over.
remove the exchange hybrid server from the old tennant.
Point MX records directly to the exchange server.
      Cut office 365 service.
After the 30 minutes ~ 1 hour 'mandatory' wait time imposed by MS to 'register' the domain with O365, add @corp.com to
    the new tennant
fix all user UPN's in the cloud to match their real UPN's.
This can be done with powershell.
attach exchange hybrid server to new tennant
Point MX records to the new tennant
Migrate all data from the local exchange server to the cloud under the new plan.
    Current progress (Lab):
I have created a sandbox (Lab with no internet access or connectivity to production) environment in VMware and cloned the following servers to it:
1x Domain Controller (DC) running windows server 2012 (named DC02)
    1x DC running windows server 2008 R2 (named DC01)
    1x windows server 2012 R2 - prepped with all the pre-requisites to install exchange 2013. (named EXC01)
Where I am stuck / Problem:
I have installed exchange on the server EXC01 in the lab environment using my account. I am a domain administrator in the contoso.ca domain, but my UPN is [email protected]
After the installation of exchange, I notice that my email address in Active Directory changed from @corp.com to @contoso.ca. By default, I do not see @corp.com to be an available email address to select as my email address, and changing it in AD does not resolve
    the problem.
In the exchange portal, I found "Mail flow ---> Accepted Domains", and believe I should add @corp.com to the accepted domain list. Questions:
    1) Must I add corp.com and the other domains that exist in office 365 to the local exchange before I go through with the hybrid wizard?
    2) If I must add them to exchange, I am provided with three choices:
    - Authoritative Domain
    - Internal Relay Domain
    - External Relay Domain
Given that the domain is currently in office365 and is authoritative there, which of these applies?
    3) Most documentation I have found has been about a one way migration from on-prem to the cloud. I have had a hard time finding a step by step guide for cloud to local (new server) and then back to cloud. Does anyone here have any good documentation for this
process? Would love it if it took into consideration multiple UPN/email addresses.

    Hi,
Here are my answers you can refer to:
    1. Yes, we should select the primary SMTP domain for our organization and any other accepted domains that will be used in the hybrid deployment:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj200787(v=exchg.150).aspx
    2. It depends on the usage of the specific accepted domain. And Exchange version has no influence.
To determine it, you can firstly check the function of the three types in the following article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124423(v=exchg.150).aspx
    3. Here are some reference about the migration from on-premise Exchange server to Office 365:
    http://www.msexchange.org/articles-tutorials/office-365/exchange-online/configuring-exchange-2013-hybrid-deployment-migrating-office-365-exchange-online-part1.html
Additionally, since the issue is related to Exchange online, I recommend you ask for help on our Exchange online forum to get more professional help:

  • Hyper-V Server 2012 Migration Questions

    Hello All,
This is my first post here, but I have used these forums many times for information. Sorry in advance for the long post.
I have a few questions regarding migration to Hyper-V server 2012 for my production environment. I have done quite a bit of reading, but I have a few direct questions and I would like to get some direct answers.
My current production environment consists of one PowerEdge 2900 with 2 Xeon X5460 Quad Core 3.16GHz CPUs, 24 GB of RAM and a RAID 10 consisting of 8, 500 GB HDDs for a total of 2TB of storage. I am currently running Server 2008 R2 Enterprise w/ GUI as the
Hyper-V host OS. I have 4 virtual machines all also running Server 2008 R2 Enterprise. The 4 virtual machines consist of 1 domain controller, 1 Exchange Server with Exchange 2010 Standard, 1 Server running SharePoint 2010 Enterprise and the remaining server
running IIS with FTP and HTTP.
The network topology is as follows….
Hopefully it is clear from my diagram that the Hyper-V host OS is connected to the same physical network as the domain, but is not a joined to the domain. I set it up this way because I had concerns about connectivity and manageability because the domain
controller is a guest VM. Also, the IIS server is on a completely different physical network independent of the domain.
What I would like to accomplish is the migration of the above environment to Hyper-V Server 2012 as is. I want to keep my existing guest VMs unchanged and running Server 2008 R2 for now as well as keep the existing network topology intact.
I have 3 additional servers in a separate test environment that would be able to serve as temporary storage or whatever is needed for the migration process.
Here are the two main things I would like to accomplish with this migration…
    1. Make the transition from Server 2008 R2 to Hyper-V Server 2012 as a host OS.
    2. Migrate virtual hard disks from .VHD to the new .VHDX format.
All that being said, I have finally come to my questions regarding this process.
First and foremost, I would obviously need to back up my current setup in case something goes horribly wrong during the migration. My question regarding the initial backup is would it be better to do a bare metal backup of the Hyper-V host or should I do
individual backups (bare-metal?) of the Guest VMs from within their operating systems?
Second, since I plan to use Hyper-V Server 2012, I will have to manage the host OS using the RSAT from a domain joined client running Windows 7 Professional. How much of a pain is it going to be to setup RSAT and manage the non-domain joined host from a
domain joined client? Is there a better way without using SCVMM or using Server 2012 w/ a GUI as the host OS?
Third, are there any concerns I should have, precautions I should take or procedures I need to do before, during or after the migration regarding the existing VMs and the new virtualized hardware environment on the same physical host?
Forth, should I use the trial version of SCVMM 2012 SP1 (or another previous version) to perform the migration? What should I be aware of using SCVMM for the migration and then discontinuing its use after the migration is complete and moving to management
    using the RSAT?
Fifth, if I don’t use SCVMM for the migration, what is the best procedure for moving the VMs? Should I just copy the VHDs to a temporary storage location, install Hyper-V server 2012, copy the VHDs back, create new VMs and attach the VHDs or should I use
    the export/import process?
Number six, when is the best time to migrate the VHDs to VHDX format and what would be the best method?
And finally, do I need to worry about USN rollback with a single domain controller? From my reading, this seems to be a point of disagreement. Some people say it could happen while others say it won’t. Is there any point during the migration process where
it could occur either during the copying of VHDs or from the switch to VHDX?
Again, sorry for the long post and thanks for staying with me this far. Any information would be much appreciated

    1) As Jens said below with Windows Server 2012 you can simple copy the configuration files and VHDs from a 2008 R2 server to a 2012 server and import them - they one caveat to this is that any vlan configuration is lost and you have to simply re-create it.
Optionally you can also export the virtual machines from Windows Server 2008 R2 and then import them on Windows Server 2012.
    2) Remote management in a workgroup does have some caveat's associated with it - take a look at
http://blogs.technet.com/b/jhoward/archive/2009/08/07/hvremote-refresh.aspx.  Generally I would recommend joining the Hyper-V management operating system to the domain - not just because of these issues but for a number of other features to work properly
    (see below)
    3) I always recommend validating the hardware and environment after the installation before migrating critical workloads to it - testing networking, backup etc... to make sure they function as expected.  Also ensure that you upgrade the integration
components in the VM's after the migration.
    4) That is an option - though you might find you like SCVMM
    5) Recreating VM's using existing VHD's has some issues for example the BIOS GUID changes, all of the NIC's are re-plug and played etc... When possible copying the configuration or using export is much better.
    6) The sooner the better - VHDx has a number of significant advantages, you can do the migration using the Hyper-V manager UI (edit disk) or via powershell with Convert-VHD.  Do keep in mind that during the conversation you need 2x the space (for the
    original and the new VHDx).
    7) In the past you could get into trouble if you for example snapshotted an AD virtual machine and than reverted it - taking one offline and then brining it back online was never a problem.  In Windows Server 2012 we addressed this with a feature called
    generation ID's.
Domain considerations...  A few things to keep in mind regarding the choice to not domain join the Hyper-V server.
    - You can't live migrate virtual machines
    - You can't utilize Hyper-V over SMB
    - Management is more difficult and less secure

  • Bulk Project Site option isn't working in project server 2010 migrated from PS 2007.

    Hi,
I am doing a test migration from epm 2007 to epm 2013.
So first, i need to migrate the project server 2007 to project server 2010. i have 2 separate environments for EPM 2007 and EPM 2010).
there is no problem in migration process and i successfully migrate entire PWA 2007 to 2010, except Workspaces (Project sites).
Bulk project site option is not helping. I have tried 4-5 times with different PWA 2007 databases (PWA1, PWA2...) but this option did not work. and errors in queue are WSSWebDoesNotExist(16405) and GeneralQueueJobFailed(26000).
Then next time while migrating all over again i kept the same port and same PWA name then bulk project site option worked.
Question is, Do i need to keep the same PWA name and same port for the new upgraded PWA??,  one more issue regarding this is that if don't keep the same PWA name and i open the project site and click on the "Project web app" back link, it
redirects me to old PWA site which doesn't exist and give me page not found error (Obviously).
Below, you can see the both scenarios.
my previous PWA 2007 site, say  - http://epm2007:2222/PWA
When  -  migrated PWA 2010 site, say  - http://epm2010:3000/NewPWA    (Bulk project site update just doesn't work)
When -  migrated PWA 2010 site, say  - http://epm2010:2222/PWA    (Bulk project site update worked)
Whats the solution of this problem. is there any utility or query to link all project sites correctly?
Will i face the same problem while migrating PS 2010 to PS 2013??
    Thank you.
    sandeep

    Hi,
I would say it is easier to keep the same PWA name between 2007 and 2010 (no need to have the same port).
If you want to move to a new PWA URL maybe you can use stsadm backup/restore as detailed in this article?

  • Users report no email messages after migration from Lion Server to a clean Mavericks Server with Migration Assistant

We have a Mac Mini server running Lion Server.
We bought a new Mac Mini server and installed OS X Mavericks and the Server app onto it.
We then ran Migration Asssitance on the Mavericks machine and migrated from the Lion server in target disk mode.
The migration seemed to run OK and all the user accounts seem to be working, however users are reporting that there are no email messages in their mailboxes.
Confirmed this behaviour by adding their accounts to mail (via IMAP) on a separate laptop.
Did we miss something? Is there an extra step to move the email service data?
Any insights would be grately appreciated.
    Many thanks, Tom.

  • OOF not working for mailboxes homed on Exchange 2010 server during migration

    Hi There
I'm troubleshooting an issue during a exchange 2010 to exchange 2013 migration where the OOF is not working for users homed on the exchange 2010 mailbox servers. This applies to users using outlook 2010 and outlook 2013 .OWA works perfectly and you can also
    enable OOF via exchange powershell.
Users homed on the exchange 2013 servers does not have any issues.
The exchange 2010 servers is on SP3 rollup 4 and the 2013 servers on SP1 only without any rollups installed.
So my question will be - have anyone experienced this issue during migration and will patching the exchange 2010 servers to rollup 5 or 6 and the exchange 2013 to sp1 rollup 5 fix the OOF issue then? If requested the client to patch to these levels, but
in the meantime I'm checking if anyone else had similar issues.
    Any pointers will be welcome.

    Hi ,
1.Please check the problematic exchange 2010 user account can able to access the ews virtual directory internal url and you can check that via browser's.It will prompt for the user name and password , please provide that .
EWS url wopuld be like - https://mail.youdomain.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx
2.Then the second step would be autodiscover check for the problematic user account.you can find that via test email configuration .There you came to know whether outlook is fetching up the proper url for ews and autodiscover.
3.Then please un check the proxy settings in browsers and check the same.
4.please use the command to check the auto discover

  • PAB to Address Book server dynamic migration

    I'm using JES3, 2005Q1.
I was able to apply the batch migration from PAB to Address book server as described in the Communications Express 6 2005Q1 Administration Guide. In the same chapter (Chapter 7), the dynamic migration is described. This migration happens only when the user logs in.
In the documentation it is stated that there is an attribute called "mepabmigration". This attribute is essential for dynamic migration. But I couldn't figure out how to get this attribute, as it is not predefined nor there is a description on it anywhere.
Any idea about this? especially the mepabmigration attribute.
    Regards,

    "attribute" implies LDAP.

  • Oracle 10g/11g to Sql Server 2005 Migration

    Dear All,
I am a beginner to this migration Activities..
We have designed one Application which is havin Database as Oracle 10g.
and We had another small Application which is having Sql Server 2005 has Database.
Daily we need to convert DB of Oracle to Sql server DB in order to acces recent updated data..
Pls help me how to convert Database in Oracle 10g/11g to Database in sqlserver 2005..

    Hello,
this is an Oracle forum and we are handling here migrations from foreign databases to an Oracle database.
For migrations in the other direction, in your case from Oracle to MS SQL Server, you need to read the Microsoft pages, e.g.:
    http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2005/en/us/migration.aspx
Daily we need to convert DB of Oracle to Sql server DB in order to acces recent updated data..Normally a migration is not a daily process, so I guess that you just want to transfer data from Oracle to SQL Server on a daily basis. If that is the case, you should consider to use our Gateways. Please start reading here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/gateways/index-100140.html
Using the Database Gateway for MS SQL Server (DG4MSQL) or the Database Gateway for ODBC (DG4ODBC) you can copy your data from your Oracle database to your SQL Server database, using a database link in the Oracle database.
Please let me know whether this answer helped you.

  • Issues using Oracle SQL server Developer migration work bench

    Hi all,
We are trying to migrate the application databases from SQL server 2000 to Oracle 10g using Oracle SQL Developer 1.2.1.32.13:
Following is the list of issues that we faced while trying out this migration on dev environment.
    1. The data migration was successful for only around 90 tables out of the total 166 tables present. No error message was logged for the rest of the tables but still it was completed.
    2. Some of the tables which had got the data inserted did not have the full data. Only some of the rows were inserted for these tables. Error message was logged only for few of the rows and not all.
    3. Few error messages were logged which said problems about “Inserting ' ' into column <tablename>.<columnname>”. There was no such constraint in the target database that the particular column can not be null or can not have only a space. Please check the logs for the same error messages.
    4. The status box at the end of migration had shown only 3 errors.
    5. The total data for migration was around 500MB. The time taken for migration was around 75 minutes. Are there any optimization techniques that will improve the performance?
Please note that there were no Foreign Key references for the source schema or target schema.
Any pointers/info/resolutions related to above mentioned issues will be much useful for us.
    Thanks,

    Hi Adam,
There are 2 sets of scripts created for you.
    1) For SQL Servers BCP to dump out the data to dat files
    2) For Oracles SQL*Loader to load the dat files
You run the SQL Server BCP scripts on the machine with SQL Server.
The dat files will be dumped out on that server.
You can then move the dat files to your Oracle server.
Then run the Oracle SQL*Loader scripts to load the dat files into Oracle.
Give it a go and follow the doc and viewlets.
    Your Questions:
So the datadump from the source location would be saved on my local disk?it will be saved on the same machine you run the bcp scripts from. Usually the same machine SQL Server is on, because you require SQL Server BCP tool.
So once it is migrated to the destination database will that dump be created automatically? Or do I need to modify the script to take care of this?I dont know what you mean by this, hopefully above clears things up.
The only modifications you need to make to the scripts are adding in the databasename username password servername. These are outlined in the scripts themselves. I would want to do something fancy like dump the dat files to a different directory, then you can modify the scripts, but you should understand what they do first.
Most people would have 500MB of space on their discs , so I can see the problem creating these dat files . The same goes for your 30 GB database.
I hope this helps, but as always you wont get a good idea of how it works until you give it a go.
    Regards,
    Dermot.

  • Help: SQL server 2000 migration to Oracle 10.1.0.2

    Hi all,
I need to migrate databases from SQL Server 2000 to Oracle 10.1.0.2 on HP-UX.
I read the SQL Developer documentation, but it doesn't seem to be available for HP-UX (only Windows, Mac OS, and Linux).
If I can't use this tool, what do you suggest to do this migration?
    Any info. would be appreciated.
    SI

Stored procedures will have to be converted manually--T-SQL is far enough removed from PL/SQL that there is no choice.
DTS generally handles the data conversions ok, for standard data types, I'm not 100% sure on blobs. Standard indexes and views should come accross as well.

  • SQL Server 2000 Migration to Oracl 10g

    Hi,
We are plannig to migrate the SQL Server 2000 to Oracle 10g. I have following queries.
    1. Does the Oracle SQL Developer tool is the one that to be used? (Previously OWMB used to support SQL Server 2000, but it is no longer supporting.)
    2. When I tried to migrate using Oracle SQL Developer tool, there were some errors for @@spid and the tool did go further?
    3. In OMWB it used to provide the details like how many DB objects migrated successfully and how many failed, how to generate similar reports in Oracle SQL Developer?
    Please let me know.
    Thanks
