Server side file

hi all
iam developing flex application connectiong with mssql server database throught dotnet web service
can i access a file on the server that does not occure in the web root of the application ?
my second question is : what is the maximum ability of flex web services? or how many connections can connect at the same time ? or is my application will be enterprise application that can be run over the enternet without problems ?
thanx in advance

hi
"can i access a file on the server that does not occur in the web root of the application ? "
not in a direct way, i mean they are not downloadable by the end user .
for reading a file located out side the webroot:
System.IO. StreamReader file;
file =
newSystem.IO.StreamReader(@"C:\sites\???\dummy.text");
string myText = file.ReadToEnd();

    You generally can't tell with Stream how many bytes are going to be available. You could download the whole thing into a ByteBuffer, for example, and process it from there.
    Or you can try opening an http connection explicitly (using URL and casting the connection to HttpURLConnection and see if there's a "Content-length" header.

  • Q abt. "Server Side File Tracking for Mobile Home Sync"

    I am following the steps "To optimize the file server for mobile accounts" which are listed on page 157 in Mac OS X Server v10.6 - User Management :
    In Server Admin, click the disclosure triangle for the server hosting network home folders for mobile accounts.
    If Firewall isn’t listed, select the server, click Settings, click Services, select Firewall, and then click Save.
    Select Firewall, click Settings, and then click Services.
    Choose the address range for your users’ computers from the “Edit Services for” pop-up menu.
    Select “Allow only traffic from ‘ipaddress’ to any of these ports,” select the Allow checkbox for Mobile Account Sync (port 2336), and then click Save.
    Select the server, click Settings, and then click General.
    Select “Server Side File Tracking for Mobile Home Sync” and then click Save.
    My questions is:
    In step 2, I added "Firewall" to the services. I continued with the following steps, but nowhere does it say to press the button "Start Firewall", so as of right now Firewall is listed, but not activated - it's gray and not green. Should I turn on the Firewall Service? In my setup, a cable modem/router is acting Firewall between WAN and LAN (small private home network).

    I can't get Server Side File Tracking to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Here's what I've done:
    1. Followed the instructions in "Mac OS X Server v10.6 - User Management" as per the first post in this thread.
    2. Tried turning on the Firewall Service - resulting in clients unable to log in to their network accounts.
    3. In Server Admin, under Firewall>Settings>Services, with 192.168-net selected in the pop-up menu entitled "Editing services for", I then chose "Allow all traffic" (instead of "Allow only traffic to these ports:") as my router acts as a Firewall in my setup. Now users can log in to their network accounts again, but Server Side File Tracking is still not working. How do I know it is not working?
    According to infinite vortex in this other thread, the syncing window is supposed to only show this:
    On my clients, you can see it scan through the home directory before the file copying/syncing actually starts.

  • Searching remote server-side files?

    I know in homesite your able to search remote files, I'm
    stumped on why your unable to search remote files from dreamweaver,
    it seems like they didn't implement this from they're older web
    development software. Or is there a way of doing that INSTEAD of
    downloading the whole entire site and searching it locally? Also,
    another thing that I noticed is that dreamweaver creates these very
    annoying extensions on the server .mine .r10059 etc etc.

    >Dreamweaver provides a number of protocols to connect to a remote host,
    >not just FTP. They include a variety of FTP, Local/Network, WebDAV, and RDS.
    >It's perfectly reasonable to assume a connection to a shared volume via some of those services
    I agree. For protocols that support it, it would be handy. In the context of the original post of this thread, FTP was being used.

  • Where is the database of "server side" sync items?

    Server 10.5.6 clients 10.5.5
    Problem: Server side file tracking for Mobile Home sync is on. Files are not syncing reliably. Desktop items don't make it back to the network home and other similar issues. The clients get several errors stating that there was a problem syncing one file or another and to contact the admin if it continues.
    Turn off Server side tracking. Files sync runs as one would expect, all files sync correctly with no errors.
    We use two off site subnets connected via site to site VPN. Sync now takes 10 minutes at those locations.
    Turn Server side tracking back on, assuming it might recreate the database automatically. Problems come back.
    Needed: How to delete the current presumably corrupt database on the server so that we can run server side tracking again?
    Thanks

    See

    As well, you might wish to hold off on updating your clients to 10.5.6 if you can, some have reported PHD syncing reliability issues.

  • Main.asc server side script not working

    Here the simple script i put at server seem like is not working also enclosed screenshot for the adminconsole

    application.allowDebug= true;
    application.onAppStart = function(){
            this.eventTime = (new Date().valueOf() + 10000);
            this.timer_int = setInterval(checkForEvent, 1000, this);
    function checkForEvent(app){
            var now = new Date().valueOf();
            if(now > app.eventTime) {
                    trace("something");
            }else{
                    trace("damn");

    The script is fine (at least i assume u want the timer working with no errors). The thing is that u can't put any code nor apps on the edge node. Put it on the origin and hook up your edge to that origin.

    Hi,
    Without some more details of the configuration, its difficult to know
    what's happening here. For example, what do you mean by client side
    and server side, and where are you running the upload Java application?
    If you always run the application on the database server system, but can't
    open the file on a different machine, then it sounds like a file protection
    problem that isn't really connected with the database at all. That is to
    say, if the new FileInputStream (binaryFile) statement fails, then its not
    really a database problem, but a file protection issue. On the other hand,
    I can't explain what's happening if you run the program on the same machine
    as the document file (client machine), but you can't write the data to the
    server, assuming the JDBC connection string is set correctly to connect to
    the appropriate database server.
    If you can provide some more information, we'll try to help.

  • How do I tell FMS to only serve a section of a file using server-side ActionScript?

    We have a bunch of mp3 files on our server and we'd like to serve only particular sections of particular files to users.  For example, hello.mp3 might be four minutes long, but when user 1 tries to play it, he should only be able to play the section from 0:30 to 1:00, whereas user 2 should be able to play the whole thing.
    I'm coming from a background using Wowza Media Server, where this is fairly easy to achieve: http://fmsguru.com/showtutorial.cfm?tutorialID=78.
    Wowza doesn't require any change to the player (it doesn't call any special methods), so I'm looking for the same here.
    I've been fiddling around with the main.asc file and the "Server-Side ActionScript" API to try and achieve something similar.  In particular I've found the Stream.play method, which seems relevant.  But I can't figure out how to attach a handler to a "play" event; all the examples I've seen only attach to Application.onConnect, which doesn't seem to include a connection to a particular file, which I need in order to determine the section that can be played.
    So I'd like to do something along the lines of this (this is completely made up and doesn't follow any of the APIs; it's just an illustration of what I'm trying to achieve):
    application.onConnect = function(client) {
       client.onPlay = function(stream) { // Client.onPlay doesn't exist; what should I do here?
           var section = getStreamSection(client, stream);
           stream.play(section.start, section.end);
    var getStreamSection = function(client, stream) {
       return { start: 30, end: 60 }; // Return value is based on the user's credentials and the file they're trying to stream

    Basically you need to concentrate on E_PLAY event and two fields F_STREAM_LENGTH & F_STREAM_POSITION. I am pasting below some code which you need to paste in your sample Auth Plug-in which you can find in : <installdir>/samples/plug-ins. You would have paste below code in case E_PLAY section in MyFmsAuthorizeEvent::authorize() function and compile it. You would basically get AuthModule.dll which you need to place in modules/auth and restart FMS.
    // Set the Stream to be played back only for 10 seconds starting from 10 th second
                                  // Stream will play from 10th Second to 20th Second
                                     float fValue;
                                  char buf[1024];
                                  if (getFloatField(m_pAev, IFmsAuthEvent::F_STREAM_LENGTH, fValue))
                                            float fLength = fValue; // in seconds
                                            sprintf(buf,"Original Stream length value passed from player %f\n",fLength);
                    m_pFmsAuthServerContext->log(buf, IFmsServerContext::kInformation, false);
                                            fLength=10.0;
                                            sprintf(buf,"Modifying Stream length value passed from player %f\n",fLength);
                    m_pFmsAuthServerContext->log(buf, IFmsServerContext::kInformation, false);
                                            setFloatField(m_pAev,IFmsAuthEvent::F_STREAM_LENGTH,fLength);
                                  if (getFloatField(m_pAev, IFmsAuthEvent::F_STREAM_POSITION, fValue))
                                            float iPosition = fValue; // in seconds
                                            sprintf(buf,"Original Stream Position value passed from player %f\n",iPosition);
                    m_pFmsAuthServerContext->log(buf, IFmsServerContext::kInformation, false);

  • When I open a file in Firefox, how do I get it to include server side inserts

    I like to test my html before putting on my server; I do this
    by using FireFox / File / Open File and pointing to the file
    to open; the filenames all end in .shtml, but server side includes
    are not processed; is this a Firefox issue or a Win XP issue?
    (Win XP, SP3)

    You can't use File > Open File to process server side includes. That will only work if you use File > Open Location and if there is a server that can process the file. If you use File > open File then you open that file directly in Firefox (bypassing a server) and only the HTML code will be processed and not SSI code.

  • RUN SERVER SIDE OS COMMAND OR ANY EXECUTABLE FILE FROM CLIENT

    Would you provide a complete example regarding execution Server side OS command or program from ORACLE SQL CLIENT OR FORM. This client may be a remote client.

    instead of just copying jvm.dll, I would recommend installing Java through the installer as there are most likely other files that jvm.dll is dependent on, etc.
    It's been a while since I have worked with HAL integrations (Vignette), but I believe you will need HFM client installed on the end user machine.
    If you have a lot of machines, this could be a bit annoying. Because of that when we used HAL, we made a custom web front-end that ran on a server with the HAL programs. It was more work to build the web U/I; however, from a management perspective, it was a lot easier to control/maintain.

  • Server Side Caching of pdf files

    Hi all,
    I've run into a rather odd problem that I can't find a way around. I've created some URL iViews to display some html files and some pdf files. I've adjusted the Load parameters for these iviews to the following:
    Allow Client-Side caching: Yes
    Cache Level: Shared
    Cache Validity Period: 12 hrs
    Fetch Mode: Server-Side
    I've found that the html URL iViews work fine like this, but the pdf URL iViews do not. The pdf ones seem to just hang.
    I've noticed that if I change the Fetch Mode to client-side for the pdf files, the iview then begins to work. However, I don't believe that this is the way that I want to configure my URL iviews. I believe that I want them all to be server-side cached.
    I've followed the instructions on 'setting up system properties for proxy server' (System Administration -> System Configuration -> Service Configuration -> Applications -> com.sap.portal.ivs.httpservice -> Services -> Proxy). After making these configuration changes, I've stopped/restarted portal services. The problem still occurs.
    Does anyone have any idea as to what may be causing this problem and how do I fix it?
    Thanks!

    Ok, here the code ...
    String myparameter = request.getParameter("paramname");
    String htmltemplate = "<html>\n"
                         +"<head><title>demo</title></head>\n";
                         +"<body>@parametertag@</body>\n";
                         +"<html>";
    String htmlpage = htmltemplate.replaceAll("@parametertag@",myparameter);
    File yourHTMLfile = new File("wheredoyouwannagotoday.html");
    FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(yourHTMLfile);
    fos.write(htmlpage.getBytes());
    fos.close();You're done.

  • Write to text file without server side

    Hi,
    I need to write data into a text file for saving data from my
    flash movie, but I didn't have the possibility to use a
    server-side.
    Because my flash movies are stored on a CD and it must be
    compatible with Windows and MacOS.
    Is it possible to write data into a text file?
    If no, can I use a third party software? Which one?
    Regards
    YamNet

    A SharedObject might work for you. Otherwise, you'll need a
    'wrapper' app.
    Adobe's own Director works very well for this, and AIR would
    work as well.
    There are also a good number of 3rd party apps, such as Zinc
    and others.
