which are the necessary servers for the functioning of the Web Intelligence?

Is this XI R2 or XI 3.0 ?
For XI R2, you need:
Central Management Server
Web Intelligence Job Server
Web Intelligence Report Server
For XI 3.0, you need:
Server Intelligence Agent (obviously)
Central Management Server
Adaptive Processing Server
Web Intelligence Processing Server
You will also need the Input/Output FRS.
Basically what Tim said is what you need.

Hi All,
We are facing an issue with Webi Intelligence document. Below are the details and our finding from different environments.
Problem in Production: When user runs the Webi report from Infoview, Report is coming as blank even though there is data,
Findings in production:
1. Checked on BW server transaction code ST22 it has session time out.
2. Switched on the trace and did MDX test using MDX query, even that is timed out.
Environment: BOXI3.1 RTM, Windows server, Web Intelligence and BI 7.0
When we are trying to run the same report from QA we are getting the following error u201CWeb Intelligence Server memory is fullu201D
Findings in QA:
1. When user is running the report from Infoview web Intelligence server memory is reaching 1.6GB and is getting hanged.
2. Checked on BW server transaction code ST22 it has session time out.
3. Switched on the trace and did MDX test using MDX query, it is running fine.
Environment: BOXI3.1 and Fix pack 1.3, Windows server, Web Intelligence and BI 7.0
Universe is built on BEX Query and it is running fine both in QA and Production environments.

Based on this :

The issue is outside of BO, but with BW query you're using - it returns too much data causing memory overflow and timeouts.
Optimize BW query !!
Also, upgrade to XI3.1 Sp2 Fp2.5 and latest servise pack for BW to resolve some of the issues with large queries that exist on your patch level.

What's happaned with Web intelligence report Server

Im making a document about the BOE XI 3.1 server and when i saw the services in cmc web app i dont the services:
Web intelligence report Server
Web intelligence Job Server
Dont this services exist anymore?

I believe they are called adaptive processing/job servers now, from the CMC services there should be a sub category for webi, the new names are listed under there.

WIJ 20002 If you cannot reconnect to the server, close Web Intelligence

Unexpected error. If you cannot reconnect to the server, close Web Intelligence and start again. (WIJ 20002), we are getting this error whenever we try to create a new report using WebI. Specific observations are this happens mainly with IE7 users. IE6 users can create reports without any issues. We have latest Java 6 version.
This error come specially when the number of objects selected are more than 10. We have Linux OS, version AS4 32 bit. Please let me know if anyone have any solution.

Find heap memory Size for Web Intelligence processing server in BO 4.0

Hi All ,
We need to gather data for sizing inputs.For Adaptive processing server , we can find same by going in CMC> Server > APS > Properties & check value for the parameter -Xmx . Could you please tell how to find the max heap memory allocated for a Web Intelligence processing server in BO 4.0 as for Webi server this parameter is not maintained. ?

Hi Abhinav,
The maximum threshold is a value which may reach on peak usage and Webi processing server cannot occupy memory beyond this value at any time.
In your situation 9 Webi Processing servers with 16 GB of RAM on server is not recommended. This is because consider situation with total 16 GB of host RAM.
4 GB should left for OS
Tomcat will need minimum 2 GB for 200 users
So you are left with 10 GB RAM for all BO services
Now 9 Webi Processing servers with 6 GB of Threshhost will not work here
For this configuration you can have 2 Webi Processing servers with default threshold should be running on single host.

Hi ltkin,
Unfortunately, it is not possible in Xir2 to create Webi reports from stored procedures.
Webi reports can only be created from Universe. So in Business Objects XIR3 we can create a special universe that enables Web Intelligence user's to access stored procedures residing in the database. This is the only way that Web Intelligence user's can access stored procedures.

"When i want to start "Web Intelligence Report Server" with CMC, i've got this error :

Please try to avoid posting duplicate forum posts.
This command :
bouser@v-bo-1 bobje$ ./ccm.sh -restart ras
Restarts RAS server and has nothing to so with WebIntelligence.
To be able to Start/Stop servers from CMC, you have to have rexec running on your Unix box.
Google rexec for more information on what it does and ask your Unix admin to enable it.

Reports crashing web intelligence server

There are a couple of reports that keep crashing our web intelligence server. Every time those reports are schedule or manually ran, the web intelligence server that runs the report will crash, and the server just hang at the starting stage, never fully recover. Has anyone been experiencing this or know the cause of this? My solution now is to have a script that checks the WIS every 15 minutes, if it's hang, then the script restarts WIS.

we facing same problem where some webi report causing server to crash.
when we open the report, web intelligence server crash afterward. We found that it happend when whe log as administrator and click the drill button, after the drill button clicked, webi server down.
our environment is solaris, BOXI SP2 + PP .
ps: How can I contact BO customer support representative, if I want to report this problem?

Web Intelligence Processing Server Stops

We are having an issue with BOBJ XI 3.1 where the Web Intelligence Processing Servers just stop on their own and are stuck in the "starting" state. We can't seem to find a pattern to when or why this is happening. The only way to get the server back running is to Force Termination and then restart.
Anyone else having these problems? Anyone have any ideas on a possible fix?

Check in the logs if there is any error.
or you can try with below steps.
Clone your webi processing server
Disable and stop the old webi processing server
edit properties of the new webi processing server and click all available checkboxes that called "Restore System Defaults".
Click save and close.
start and enable the new webi processing server

1) Go to windows explorer.
2) Go to C drive (or wherever your Tomcat is installed) c:\programfiles\Tomcat\webapps\businessobjects\enterprise115\desktoplaunch\WEB-INF\classes\webi.properties
3) open this file webi.properties with a notepad and add MAX_HEAP_SIZE=1024000000 as the bottom most line of the file.
4) Save the file.
5) Restart the tomcat server and webi as well.

Web Intelligence server busy

Hi,
When we are running webi reports (on top of SAP BW), we receive sometimes the following error message:
"ERR_WIS_30284: the web intelligence server is busy".
I checked in OSS and on SDN, but didn't find any solution.
Has anyone an Idea to fix the issue?

when i try to open the webi report i get error

(This works for xir2 and this is not the permanent fix I guess)
For Xi3.0 : XI3.0-WEB INTELLIGENCE SERVER MEMORY FULL - ERROR (WIS -30280)
Cause
The error message appears because the Web Intelligence server stresses the memory resources when processing many reports containing a large amount of data.
Resolution
To resolve the error message, it is necessary to increase the memory heap size value. Complete these steps:
Click Start > Run. The Run dialog box appears.
Type "regedit" in the Open text field. Click OK. The Registry Editor appears.
Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Session Manager.
Click Subsystems > right-click Windows key > click Modify.
Edit the SharedSection value from 1024,3072,512 to 1024,3072,1024.
Also, set this to a value higher than the Web Intelligence Report Server connection time out value found in the Central Management Console. This value is written in minutes. The default value is 20.
Close the Registry Editor.
Restart the Web Intelligence Report Server for the changes to take effect.
So gurus please suggest for any alternative or permanent fix ,as this seems to be workaround.

Need web intelligence server memory threshold settings for SAP BO BI XI4.0

Hi,
We have found that WIreportserver.exe process taking high memory in our BO systems. We are in SAP Business objects XI 4.0 SP 07 Patch 2 version now.
We have found that the Web intelligence server memory threshold settings to be changed in case of these issues.
But there are no documents that says about the recommended settings for SAP BO BI XI 4.0 version.
The XI 3.1 recommendations(SAP Note:1544103 ) can not be taken as its a 32bit server and the X14.0 is a 64 bit one.
Please let me know the recommended settings for web intelligence server memory threshold settings SAP BO BI XI 4.0 version or any SAP note that says about it.
Any suggestions/ recommendations are welcomed that will fix the issue.

There is settings for 'Web Intelligence Server Memory Threshold Settings' where we will set values for memory max threshold,memory lower threshold and memory upper threshold values .You can check the SAP note 1544103 which says the settings , but its applicable for 3.1.
and which ones have you changed already?
We have not done any changes in settings yet. We are actually searching for the recommended values.
what errors / symptom are you trying to avoid?
We are facing issue in 'WIreportserver.exe' occupying 100% memory.
Please suggest and let me know if any other information is needed.

Connection from Web Intelligence over Universe to SAP ERP without SAP BW

Hi there,
is there a way to create a Universe which ic connected to SAP ERP (ECC 6.0) ? I want to use Web-Intelligence to create the Reports for my ERP-Data. But i don't want to make the way over SAP BW.
Otherwise i have to use Crystal because Crystal + SAP ERP Integration Kit can handle a connection to ERP. But then i have to waste a lot of time for the accuracy to a pixel which i dont need and i dont want...
Any Ideas ?!

you have 4 options:
1) Load your SAP ERP data into an SAP BW system and use OLAP universes to build WebI reports.
2) Use Rapid marts for SAP. This product comprises Data Integrator mappings that will allow to load your SAP ERP data into a predefined DWH based on a relational data source (like DB2, MS SQL Server or Oracle). It also includes a universe based on the predefined relational DWH that will allow you to build WebI reports.
3) Use the Data Federator with the SAP R/3 connector. Please note that the R/3 connector is NOT a product rather a prototype tand will be used at own risk (SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence Reporting for SAP ERP [original link is broken])
4) NOT RECOMMENDED: Try to access the tables directly in the underlying database. Please note that this may work for some but not all of the ERP data. In several case the data are stored encoded in the underlying tables and there is no way to extract the required information. Additionally the ERP security will not be leveraged into the WebI report.
Crystal reports is the currently the only BO reporting tool, which supports direct access to SAP ERP data sources.
