Set new users' settings to mirror admin's settings

First off, I apologize if this is in the wrong section. Admins, please feel free to move it.
I am on the IT team at a university. We have recently updated the Macs in one of our labs and I am working on getting them set up for students to use. The local machine has only an admin account. All other accounts will be created by active directory authentication.
I want to be able to set up a default profile to serve as a baseline for students when they log in. I have figured out how to make the default dock be a copy of admin's dock, but I am having a lot of trouble finding how to change the default mouse settings. I'd like to set the tracking to something other than painfully slow (these are 27" iMacs), and I also have installed the Mouse Acceleration Preference Pane (http://triq.net/mac/mouse-acceleration-preference-pane-mac-os-x) to make the mouse "feel" better. I would like this to start automatically as well.
These machines currently have no users, so applying settings to previously created accounts is not an issue. Is there a master template somewhere I can tweak some values in?

Ok, so I've figured this one out. The problem was that the config was stored in a hidden file.
Show hidden files in finder by typing:
defaults write.com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall Finder
into terminal. Of course change TRUE to FALSE to put it back.
On the admin account, go to ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist. I don't think I changed the permissions on the file, but its possible I did. Open this in xcode and it lets you change the settings graphically. I assume opening it with a text editor works as well. Check that this file contains com.apple.mouse.scaling - this is the mouse tracking speed.
Copy the ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist into /System/Library/User\ Template/English.lproj/Library/Preferences/ - this is where the template for new users is stored. The template (and all subfolders) will definitely need the permissions adjusted unless you are working in terminal as sudo.
After making the copy, all new users are able to log in with a natural feeling mouse. It seems the Acceleration Preference Pane started automatically, perhaps something I did earlier by accident?

This problem wil happen only if you've created a user with an empty group id, and this issue is fixed for FCS .
You have two workarounds to use adminGUI for managing users:
1. Use CLI, and create a group id to this user, then you can use adminGUI.
2. Other option is remove the empty group id user from domain.xml, and then you can come back to adminGUI to create the user with some group id. I prefer the 1st option.

Set Default User settings in BRF Plus

Hi All,
We want to set some default setting for a set of the users for BRFPlus gui.
For Example:
1. We want to display row no in the decision table as the first column for all users.
2. In the decision table, we want some columns ( from result section)which are actually in the end on the right of the screen should be visible as first column.
I know these can be achieved using user settings. But we want to default this for all the BRF Plus users.
Can we create one setup and assign it or default it for all BRF Plus users? Like we do in SAP R3 defaulting menus for SAP users.

We have already used the blog to hide some features from users view in custom catalog. After your reply I revisited the our code and added few more lines of codes to display row number. But the Row Number was not displayed. Guessing if anything is missing.
Is it not possible to do at user profile level for mass users. Like we do it for SAP R3 Users?

New User creating through Exchange Admin Center -"Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation"

facing problem in creating new user through EAC. through shell its ok. but when i tried through EAC it stuck selecting OU with error

Why would you go for nested OU inside the default OUs? ;-)
i have more then 1 domain controllers and sites .. it was done to implement different policies on different DCs .. and to standardize the things in better way

no the error way bcos of my domain controllers were in nested OU .. i move them to root OU .. at the same time i remove
empty OU in my domain (it was for test purpose etc.). not sure if the empty OU were also causing problem .. but for sure it were nested OU under "domain controllers OU" ...

New user account pulling in Admin's email contacts

I've set up a new account on my mac for my daughter. In her version of mail, it is pulling in all my saved email addresses (they show up when trying to auto-fill an address) so now she could accidentally email clients of mine. It appears to have copied over to her icloud because they now show up in mail on her ipad too. My email contacts are stored in mail somewhere and not in my contacts app so I'm not sure where to delete these within her account making sure they are NOT deleted on mine. Any ideas?

We do have different accounts. I was set up as one user on the computer and then added her as a different user. I then restored the mac to factory settings so she would be the only user, but it looks like the email contacts were pulled into her icloud because she now has them on this computer again and on her ipad. Let me look into deleting the previous recipients on her laptop and see if I can delete them there. Any idea how to get them off the ipad?
The only contacts in the contacts app I have are phone numbers for my phone and the only contacts in her contacts app are her friend's email/text addresses.

Create a user and give the check box for 'Administrators' group and check.
If required give 'Presentation Service Administrator'group too.
In Settings->Manage Privileges you can restrict the user to the Answers.

How did you clear the iPhone 3G?
Was it cleared by restoring the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the iPhone's backup with iTunes on your computer, or did you use the erase all content and settings option on the iPhone?
If she is logged in to iTunes with her iTunes account on her computer and her computer has not been authorized with your iTunes account with iTunes, then your iTunes account should no longer be available on the iPhone.

Setting up new users on family PC?

I think this is really basic stuff, but im a bit dumb...
Whole family has been using the PC for several years, under the only login, as the administrator.
every time i get home from work, i have to undo all the system changes my kids have made.
Today, from Control Panel, I set up a new user account for each person, but lost my access to the original ADMINISTRATOR, and lost all files, my docs etc.
I performed a system revert to yesterday to remove new users and get the ADMIN log in back, it worked, all good.
So, when I set up a new user, that user desk top is vitually empty, & cant access all the programs / files etc they are used to using...
How do i set up seperate user logins,, and transfer existing files and programs from ADMINISTRATOR to restricted users?

Believe it or not, Microsoft already has these instructions posted, just not labeled so that you would ever think of it. Basically what you need to do is to duplicate the current user account several times, one for each family member.

I know that it does not match exactly, but the end result is the same. Once you get to that page you want to follow the instructions under Create a new user profile on the workgroup computer to create accounts for everyone (Think about making a restricted account for yourself as well) and then under Copy files to the new user profile to copy everything over.
That should do what you want.

yeah when i put * in the set online filter i am able to see the users which i have created in weblogic. After all the users appear then i select Action-> close. Now again when i try to cross check it once again i again clicked on manage->indentity->now i dont see the users. what could be the issue?

Full true Administrator Privileges and rights for New User?

I am wondering how to grant full administrator privileges to a newly created user?
Here is the environment:
Windows 2012 Server 64bit
Not part of a domain <WORKGROUP>
Here is the problem:
I created a new user we will call them "SecondaryAdmin", and made them part of "Administrators" group as well as the "Remote Desktop Users" group.
I login through an RDP session as "SecondaryAdmin", I go to a command prompt, and I run IISRESET and it tells me:
"Access denied, you must be an administrator of the remote computer to use this command. Either have your account added to the administrator local group of the remote computer or to the domain administrator global group."
Additionally, I have IE Enhanced Security turned off, but if I open Internet Explorer while logged in as "SecondaryAdmin" it still displays the IE Enhanced Security warnings.
Also, if I try to copy a file to the root "C:\", it gives me "Access denied error" forcing me to continue with elevated administrator privileges.
If I run the command prompt as "administrator" I can do an IISRESET without error.
If I run Internet Explorer as "administrator" I do not get the warnings.
If I run windows explorer as "administrator" I do not get the access denied.
However, I WOULD NOT trust this "SecondaryAdmin" account to install ANYTHING. Even if you ran the install executable as "admin", often times these install files will fire off secondary scripts that wont be fired off as "admin",
which may lead to incomplete or corrupt installs.
This changed from Windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012.... If I do the same exact thing in Windows 2008, I am able to do all the above things without prompt or error.
So how can I give a new user true, full, elevated, admin privileges without having to run everything as administrator? Some obscure setting in GPO? Some registry setting (already tried LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy)?
What I have tried:
UAC is OFF
Firewall is OFF
IE Enhanced Security is OFF
Remote Management/Desktop Enabled
User part of Administrators Group and Remote Desktop Group
Used "netplwiz" to verify user is Administrator
Please help!

I appreciate your answers, however, this is not what I am looking for.
I want the "SecondaryAdmin" user, who is part of the Local Admininstrator group, to have full Admin access.
I DO NOT want them to have to do anything special, or have any user intervention.
NO yes/no dialog boxes
NO clicking "Run As Admininstrator"
NO changing shortcuts or executable file properties to always "Run as Admin"
I simply want the "SecondaryAdmin" account, which is part of the "Administrators" group, to have the same access and run the same seamless way it did in 2008 R2, with no user intervention required.
This is what I am looking for.

Automate the import of company contacts to new users in Office365

I'm looking to find a way to automate the way I import our internal company vcard contacts to a new users Outlook 2013 contact list. Right now, I'm having to save each individual vcard manually into the new users Outlook 2013 contact list.
What I would love to happen is when I create this new user in the O365 admin portal that this user will automatically have these company contacts included.
Is this possible?

My problem: I wanted to import my addresses out of the thunderbird addressbook into my iPod Touch
Solution:
You need mozilla thunderbird with an addressbook stuffed with your contacts, an addon called "MoreFunctionsForAddressBook" (Altavista, Google, msn etc. are your friends to find it), outlook express
The steps
Create a folder for your vcards
Install MoreFunctionsForAddressBook as addon to your thunderbird
Open your addressbook
mark all your addresses, _*go to extras, export vcard and send them to the new folder*_
Mark all the cards in the new folder, copy them by pulling them into the addresslist.
Then you push the correct button in iTunes and it will do the rest ...

Exchange 2013: when I create a new user in 2012 AD no mailbox is created.

Hi,
I have two VMs both running Windows server 2012 R2.
S1-DC.domain.local (GC)
S2-EMS.domain.local (Exchange 2013 CU2)
When I add a new user account from the Admin Center on S1-DC.domail.local, no Exchange 2013 mailbox is being created.
I can add the AD user to Exchange 2013 manually, but I assumed a mailbox would be created automatically when an account is created.
What would be the cause of this?

There is no automatic provisioning of mailboxes when you create an AD user.
To have that automatically done, you can develop a Powershell script that will run periodically (Example: Every hour), will identify the newly created AD accounts and will provision a mailbox for them.

NavigationBar, HomepageResources and SearchScopes are also displayed via Permission MPRs.
You have to deal with UsageKeywords also. You can get an overview of how this works if you take a look on how this is done with the BasicUI Keyword to display the default elements.
As an example you can do the following:
1. Add the Usage SubAdminUI to the Navigation, Homepage and Searchscope elements you need.
2. Create a set for each of the 3 having a dynamic filter UsageKeyword = "SubAdminUI"
3. Create a set to combine the 3 sets to one using filter ResourceID in "Name of the Sets"
4. Create a Set "SubAdminUI Users" and add the Admin Users to them. (dynamic or static)
5. Create an permission MPR and grant SubAdminUI Users read to the Objects in Set created in Step 3
6. Perform an iisreset to clear cache
You should now see the Portal elements as the SubAdmin. Next you need make sure that SubAdmin can read and edit group resources. Create permission MPRs as well for this. How to do this depends on if you use the owner attribute of the groups or not.

How can I set up a new user account that has access to iPhoto data on Admin account?

I have set up a new user account for my son. I have set up his parental controls but I would like him to have access to the data in iPhoto and iTunes from the Admin account. I do allow him access to the applications with the parental controls, but they are empty. Thanks for your help!

Are these apps installed in the main /Applications folder?
Yes.
Are they App Store apps or installs from disc/download?
Both, but App Store purchases are a clear minority, and aren't much of a problem, due to the ease of re-downloading and activating. The downloaded programs are the ones that present the problems. I have not been good about archiving serial numbers and the like, mostly because I've never had a problem like this before.
What specific apps are you having trouble with? For instance, I know that MS Office and Adobe CS5 for perfectly well for all users on my MBP.
This is a very long list. Let me give you some of it, and if you really need all of them, I'll add to the list later.

Not much, since I have no idea where the problem is. I looked for some central repository of software serial numbers or activations, but didn't find one.

New users not showing up while trying to set folder permission settings

Server 2012
This is a new virtual domain server and file server in a starwind cluster, I just started migrating users last week.
This last weekend (two days ago) the cluster crashed while doing windows updates on this server. I have been unable to get it to download any updates since without crashing, not sure if that is related to this issue somehow.
I added some new users today and got them all logged in and their data transferred over. good. But then I went to this shared folder that everyone has a mapped drive too and tried to add them in the security tab of a sub folder but their accounts will not show
up when I search for them. Any account I added previously to last weekend show up, students, mine, etc.
even if I select the exact OU the accounts are located in, even if I type their whole name and domain. In AD the accounts are there.
If I log into the backup domain controller Their accounts show up there while in a folder security settings tab. They are listed in active directory on both domain controllers.
I have exhausted myself on Google search.
What the heck did I break?
Maybe I should run
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Not sure if I will lose any data doing that or what the repercussions would be..

If the DC is having USN rollback issue, we can resolve it by demote then re-promote or restore the DC using a supported method such as using System State backup to restore.
