Set up cost

Hi experts,
In a manufacturing organization where there is some activity for set up cost.
If we create an activity type "Set up" how we can practically segregate costs only related to setup?/  ( there may be both labour and consumables/spares cost for set up)
Or is it only possible with Activity Based Costing??
Please comment on this.

Good question.
There is a concept called Activity dependent planning and Activity independent planing.
In your case you can go head with activity dependent planning and according plan your labour and consumable cost on cost center with Activity type combination. Hence when you run KSPI system will accordingly calculate cost of KP26.
As you cannot post actual cost in relation to the activity types, you can use Activity splitting in this scenario to distribute  common cost incurred on more than one activity types on the basis of Actual quantity and you have to splitting as a month end activity and then do KSII execution to get cost in KBK6. System by default use Equivalence no to distribute the cost.

    I assume you want project to have a default cost rate, so why not set the cost rate details into A to begin with,  You could then set this as a template from which you initiate all your new projects see FAQ

  • Set up cost in Pricing

    Scenario:
    For drawing parts, we need to pay a fixed "Set-up" cost to the vendor. Irrespective of the quantity this cost will be fixed. Since same component is required in several end products and we get the requirements for these products at different time intervals, we can't combine all requirements into one single PO. We run MRP on daily basis and whatever requirements are noticed, they are converted into PO.
    Also economic order quantity is not feasible, as these are associated with high cost and demands are not consistent.
    However, many a times supplier is able to combine all these (atleast many of these) requirements into one single delivery and will charge us the set up cost only once against all these various PO's.
    We are not finding a solution, other than manually tracking the set up cost.
    I was just wondering do any of you had this situation and how it was solved.

    As already suggested, it should be 'D', as it copies the pricing elements unchanged with automatically determined or manually entered surcharges and discounts from the reference document (scales are not read again). This means that the value remains unchanged even if the billing quantity is different to the order quantity. Also, it does not redetermine the taxes

  • Ceating Sets for Cost Centers in GS01

    Could someone please guide me in the steps to take for creating a set for cost centers so when DP90 (Billing Request fro service order) is generated it looks at all cost centers...
    I went to GS01 created a name of Cost Center used table AD01ATTR and field KOSTL...enterered the from value XXX and the to value as XXX...
    This does not seem to be working....am i missing something?  Your direction would be greatly appreciated

  • Set Up Costs - Semi Variable

    Dear Experts,
    We incur set up costs that are semi variable.
    In other words for $1000 is incurred for every 500 units produced ( $2 per unit). Suppose a product is produced only 100 units in a month, that means $200 ( $2*100 units) is absorbed on the product and remaining $800( $1000-$200) will be unabsorbed.
    How this unabsorbed $800 , should be treated during correspondind month end.
    2. My set up costs includes Labour, Machine & Power . We have captured set up costs under a single activity type.
        Say we incurred $200 in a month, how can we split labour , machine & Power. what is the solution to split set up costs and post to  
       corresponding Labour , Machine and power cost center.

    1. When you calculate actual activity price: It will be higher than Plan Price of 2$ because of lower utilization... Later on when you revaluate prod orders from CON2, there will be No Under abs of overhead
    2. Usually, in your case, Set up cost is better represented by machine hrs than Labour hrs.. So, it is advisable to track Set Up cost as one single cost instead of Splitting up into three
    You can create 6 Act types i.e. Set Up - Machine, Labor, Power and Other Machine, Labor, power... But that will only complicate the things

    To define your own logic you can use BAdI IWO1_ORDER_BADI with method CHANGE_COSTRELEVNCY to set 'relevant for costing flag'. See also some information in note [649743|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/649743].

  • Setting of Cost Element category

    Hi Experts
    I have a query around whether to set particular accounts as Category Primary Cost Elements (1) or Revenue Elements (11).
    We are a financing business and generally split our P&L into Income, Expenses and Bad Debt.  Currently all cost elements under Bad Debt are defined as 1 Primary Cost Elements but this means that the business need to enter a cost centre when posting to the accounts.
    The business have argued that they do not need to analyse Bad Debt by cost centre - simply by Profit Centre, in the same way as Income.
    Can you tell me:
    Is it possible / advisable to change the Bad Debt cost elements from being Primary Cost Elements to being Revenue Cost Elements?
    What are the implications if we make this change?

    Apart from the process of changing the COst Element Category, is it advisable for 'Bad Debt accounts' to be classified as Revenue elements in CO?
    The accounts are expense accounts in FI.  Are there any implications in classifying them as Revenue elements?
    Will changing them to be Revenue elements:
    mean we are no longer required to populate Cost Centre?
    still enforce the recording of Profit Centre for transactions posted there?

    Issue 1: How to set the column of master cost center to required input in the maintaining position screen?
    Issue 2: some of position has two cost center, i have maintained two cost center(cost center 1:90%,cost center 2:10%) percentage in the tab of cost distribution with trasaction code ppome.when i post to accounting,it only post to master cost center 100%,it can not distribute two cost center, Could you please tell me the reason?

    Plz check with ur FICO Consultants as master Cost Center r desgined by them
    They will Loop group of Cost Centers to Master Cost Center.
    This concept has started in ECC 6.0 Version

  • Personlization:Set UNIT COST field in Miscellaneous Transaction as Required

    Hi,
    In Oracle APPS 11i Inventory module I want to set the UNIT COST field in the miscellaneous transaction as required.
    I have placed the cursor in the field and went to Help > Diagnostics > Examine.
    Block: MTL_TRX_LINE
    Field:TRANSACTION_COST_DISPLAY
    Next went to Help -> Diagnostics -> Custom Code -> Personalize:
    Trigger Event: WHEN_NEW_FORM_INSTANCE
    Context LEVEL USER: MINE
    Actions tab. target object is MTL_TRX_LINE.TRANSACTION_COST_DISPLAY which we had checked above.. I set the REQUIRED property to TRUE. Save
    When I go back to the form the field is required and the changes are affected.
    But, Once I close the form and reopen it I find the field reuired property is reset to FALSE.
    Can someone please tell me what's wrong exactly?

        I want to set the shipping cost for a particular product. Where to change it.
    By default it shows :- Shipping: $0.00
    I tried to change GroundShippingCalculator.properties  the amount property but it didn't reflected in the JSP.

    Correct the component path /atg/commerce/pricing/shipping/ShippingPricingEngine to /atg/commerce/pricing/ShippingPricingEngine.
    After this change also if not working,verify that ur changes getting reflected and enable logginDebug for /atg/commerce/pricing/ShippingPricingEngine
    have u added available shipping method(for current shipping group) to ur current shippingGroup? As suggested below.

  • Settement of cost of one GL (Cost element) to one single reciever GL

    Dear All,
    We have business requirement that we want  to settle cost of one specific GL (CELEM) to one specific GL only.
    So, I have tried to map the same in Allocation structure the same relevant cost element in sender and another one in
    Settlement cost element (to which this cost should settle).
    But I am getting error as :Specify original cost element ('OCE'), or enter a settlement cost element".
    The cost element which i am assigning as settlement cost element is already created as settlement c.Ele.
    Pls help me or Is there any other way I can map the same?

    What you are doing is not right.... The Settlement cost element that you assigned in the Alloc Str must be of Category 21/22... In your case, I think it is Category 01.. Is that right?
    The GL to which you want to settle must be the settlement receiver in settlement rule... It should not be assigned as "Settlement cost element " in Alloc Structure
    If you have posted to 5 GL accounts in Internal Order and you want to settle one out of 5 GLs to GL Account 1001, then follow the steps below
    1. In your Alloc Str, tick "By Cost Element"
    2. Create a Source Structure and assign it in the settlement rule
    a. Create 2 assignments in the Source structure, 10 and 20
    b. In the 1st assignment  10- Specify the 1 GL account
    c. IN the 2nd assignment 20, specify the other 4 GL accounts
    3. While creating settlement rule, create 2 settlement rules....
    a. In 1st rule - Specify Settlement receiver as G/L account 1001 and choose Source Str Assignment 10
    b. In 2nd rule - Specify the desired Settlement receiver and choose Source Str Assignment 20

  • KE350_We ticked "do not cost" in MM03 with KE4J setting, error in billing.

    Hi Experts,
    Most of materials need to be done costing run before creating billing in our company; therefore, we set "KE4J costing key for Type of Material (FERT) " to check if mat. already done cost estimate or not.
    But some of FERT mat. from old sys. and will not be produce anymore. Therefore, we tick "do not cost" in MM03, and transfer STD at accounting view 1 from old sys. by LSMW.
    When we've done billing, there's no accounting doc. produced.
    In VF02, release to accounting, we got these error msg.
    How do we solve this Q? (If we ticked "do not cost" and no need to check if cost estimates have been done or not.)

  • Cost center & Profit Center set up

    Hi,
    I am a Chartered Accountant by Profession. I just started my classes to eventually go for certification as FICO Consultant. I have the following question for you. I would appreciate if someone could answer this for me.
    THIS IS WHAT I WANT TO ACHIEVE AS AN END RESULT FROM CONTROLLING SET UP.
    Basic Premises:
    One Company is doing business in computers and has business area's already defined geographically.
    Products/ Profit Centers: Desktops & Laptops, Computer hardware like mother boards, RAM, Hard drives etc, Software.
    Cost Centers: Production, Ware housing, Selling & Distribution, Gen Admin.
    We can set up cost elements to match up with the expenses accts in GL. Say Cost of Production, Salaries, Stationery, Postage, Travel Etc. While setting up the cost elements we will not select a default cost center.
    We can set up cost centers for Production, Warehousing, Selling & Distr. and Gen Admin.
    We then set up Profit centers for Desktops & Laptops, Computer Hardware, Software.
    Now let us go with an example for a flow of an expenditure:
    We have incurred a Production cost for desktops 1,000 and Production cost for Computer Hardware 750.00
    If we leave the linking of cost centers with the profit centers, at the entry level we can select a cost center Production for both the expense of 1,000 and 750 and then select the profit center Desktop & laptops for 1,000 and Profit Center Computer Hardware for 750. This will solve and settle the issue.
    But  I have been advised that the cost centers need to be linked to profit centers. The flow will be
    1. Cost Element to Cost Center has to be done by the user ( Since we did not define a default cost center at the Cost Element level).
    2. From the cost center the expenditure should flow automatically (Since we can link the Cost Center to A Profit Center). This is where I am having a problem in understanding the concept.
    For a single cost center we cannot define multiple Profit Centers. In the above example say we link the Cost Center "Production" to Profit Center "Desktop & laptops". What will happen to 750 which actually relates to Profit Center "Computer Hardware". We can have as many Cost Centers as Profit centers to solve the problem, but that defeats the management purpose of wanting to know what is the production cost for all lines. Can we create Production in the second level under Standard Hierarchy and create cost centers for Production (Desktops & Laptops), Production(Computer Hardware) and Production Software, Drag and group them under the Second level Production that we created under standard Hierarchy. I do not know how this will affect the reports that are generated for cost centers. The reports for Profit centers will be fine.

    Cost center is defined as per requirement, In your scenerio cost center will be department wise like different product dept for example Desktop, hardware accessories, laptops etc.. So, every cost cenet should be assigned to profit center. As per reporting related to cost center and profit center both report has it own advantages like cost center is purely related to cost of the particular department wheras profit center is related to both cost and revenue, it is broad prospective related to profit or loss made for that particular profit center.

    Secondary cost elements are like production costs, material overheads, production overheads, they can be created and administered in only CO.  These are used in internal cost allocation, overhead calculation, settlement transactions., it does not flow to FI...
    When cost element carries cost with in CO, then they are called secondary cost element.
    Example.... - Take Product Costing
    On manufacture of the goods the cost of the above product (production order) is arrived at accumulating material cost + operational cost + overheads (%), additive cost if any.
    The cost of operation is accumulated in cost centre be it production / production service / service cost centres, while booking FI entries.
    Those operational cost has to be allocated to production order based on operational activities carried on and its cost involved in it. Those operation activities in CO are termed as activity types and has to link the same in KP26 with rates and cost centre (ie., sender cost centre and receiver production order).
    In order to find the production order cost, the allocation of cost from sender cost centre to production order for the operational activities carried on and its cost associated with it, have to be loaded, hence in CO the cost centre allocate that portion of operational cost to production order, and this cost is carried by a cost element (since there are no FI involvement and entries are flowing within CO by crediting sender cost centre and debiting receiver production order a cost element has to be created.... say "Operational Cost - Activity" the entry will be
    Operational Cost - Activity (Production Order) Dr Rs.XX
       To Operational Cost - Activity (Cost Centre) Cr Rs.XX
    The entries are with in CO. And the cost element created is secondary since it does not has an link with GL Account in FI correspondingly.
    In conclusion there is need to creatre a secondary cost element when when you want to disribute the cost with in CO module not in FI
