Setting DatabaseName in Report is ignored by Crystal Engine

CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
Hello.
I have a VB6 application using CR8.5 that i am currently migrating to CRXI. I connect to both SQLServer 2000 and Oracle 10g databases via ODBC. I have some reports on my PC which use a database
named TEST. On the production machine i have a database named LIVE. I also have the following variable in my application:Public cReport As CRAXDRT.ReportChanging the ODBC connection DSN using cReport.Database.Tables().ConnectionProperties("DSN") or cReport.Database.Tables().ConnectBufferString was successful. I cannot change the database name though.  Even though i set the cReport.Database.Tables(*).ConnectionProperties("Database") property to "LIVE" at runtime, the Crystal Engine is still trying to connect to TEST. Even setting the ConnectBufferString directly does not help. I would appreciate any ideas on how to change the database name at runtime.

Thanks TST,
I had to do a lot of drilling and exploring but found the location based on your suggestion.  For the record, the mod is in  the "Enter Row Cell Data" VI.  I have included a screen shot of the mod.

  • Crystal Reports Server 2008 (Linux) - Crystal Reports/MySQL/ODBC Issue

    Hello,
    I have successfully installed CRS '08 on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 server.  All services run fine.
    In the CMC, I have uploaded a Crystal Report that connect to a remote MySQL server.
    I have installed the My SQL ODBC 3.51.11 and .12 Drivers as a System DSN.
    I have proven that the reports run fine in Crystal Reports 2008 directly against the remote MySQL DB server.
    (in Windows but with the same 3.51 ODBC Drivers)
    I have also proven that the database connection works okay from the CRS '08 Red Hat server to the remote MySQL DB server, when also creating a system DSN (using bash ./ODBCConfig)
    The problem is that when I log into the CMC or InfoView, and when I run the Crystal Reports from there, I get an error message:
    "Error in File <MyCrystalReport>: Failed to load database information"
    Is there something wrong with my specific Crystal Reports' Database Configuration? (Right click- Database Configuration)
    I see the driver was registered correctly in the /etc/odbc.ini file
    Am I supposed to set any other ODBC environment variables?
    Is there are firewall issue (port 3306 is already open)?
    In summary, the install was successful, and Crystal Reports can be uploaded and viewed via CMC or InfoView, but I cannot run the Crystal Reports against the database.
    Please advise, Thanks!

    Hi, I'm facing a similar problem. My ODBC DSN never works with CRS. Here are the details:<br><br>
    (1) I  installed the CRS 2008 in /opt/crystalreportsserver_2008_v1/ on a Linux platform. The CRS works well. I created a report with Crystal Reports 2008. This report directly connects to a MySQL server. After I published the report and manually modify its database configuration, I can browse it from InfoView. I'm sure that CRS, MySQL, and a report connecting to MySQL are all good.<br><br>
    (2) Then, I created an ODBC DSN on a Windows platform. This DSN connects to a MySQL server. I created another report with Crystal Reports using this DSN. The report can show the data within Crystal Reports.<br><br>
    (3) Then, I published the second report to CRS, but when I try to browse it, I always get such a message: Failed to open the connection.<br><br>
    I have configured the ODBC for CRS on the Linux server and I think the configuration is correct. This is how I do that: I edited the /opt/crystalreportsserver_2008_v1/bobje/odbc.ini file. In the file I added a data source called ods_telstar. Following is the content of the file:<br><br>
    [ODBC Data Sources]<br><
    CRSQLServerWP=DataDirect 5.3 SQLServer Wire Protocol Driver<br>
    CRSybaseWP=DataDirect 5.3 Sybase Wire Protocol Driver<br>
    CRText=DataDirect 5.3 Text Driver<br>
    %SYBASEDSN%=DataDirect 5.3 Sybase Wire Protocol Driver<br>
    ods_telstar = MySQL<br>
    <br>
    ... <br>
    <br>
    [ods_telstar]<br>
    Description     = ODS on telstar<br>
    Trace       = Off<br>
    TraceFile   = stderr<br>
    Driver      = /opt/crystalreportsserver_2008_v1/bobje/enterprise120/linux_x86/odbc/lib/libmyodbc5.so<br>
    SERVER      = xxx<br>
    USER        = xxx<br>
    PASSWORD    = xxx<br>
    PORT        = 3306<br>
    DATABASE    = ods<br>
    <br>
    In the middle I removed some data source definitions that are by default in the file. Note that I use "xxx" to replace the server name, user, and password. Such information is for internal use and I'm sure the original information is correct. The MySQL ODBC driver file has been put in the correct location. Correct access permissions has been assigned to the file.<br><br>
    I've tried to restart the CRS server, but still the report using ODBC DSN cannot be viewed.<br><br>
    The reason that we want to user ODBC DSN is that we may have many reports to publish. When we design the reports, we specify that they get data through an ODBC DSN such as ods_telstar. If we configure the same DSN on CRS, then we don't need manually modify each report's configuration after we publish them. If these reports are directly connecting to MySQL, then we have to manually modify each one's database configuration after we publish them.<br><br>
    I've no idea what's wrong with all the setup. Any suggestions and comments are appreciated!<br>

  • Upgrade from crystal report 8.5 to crystal report 2011

    Hi All,
    Currently we are using crystal report 8.5 (PEAPI and dictionary files) (with VB6) to generate historical data for our product. Reports can have millions of records. We are using 2-tier architecture ( our client resides on windows machine and database
    - Oracle10g dedicated server- resides on linux server).
    We are planning to upgrade it to CR2011(with .NET)
    My understanding is :
    Crystal report designed in SAP Crystal Report 2011/SAP Crystal Reports(version for Visual Studio 2010)/.NET SDK for CR2011 and developed in VS2010 will use Crystal Reports(version for Visual Studio 2010) runtime.  Please comment.
    Is there  any way to use PE APIs in Crystal report 2011 ? If not which is the best way to upgrade  ?
    Please comment.
    Thanks,
    Gaurav

    Hello,
    Not sure which viewer you are using, should be CR.Windows.Form and in code using RAS ( Report Application Server ) you'll get these options which are now controllable by you to allow all or just some:
    private void ViewReport_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
        rptClientDoc = rpt.ReportClientDocument;
        //crystalReportViewer1.ShowProgressAnimation(false);
        crystalReportViewer1.ShowGroupTreeButton = false;
        crystalReportViewer1.EnableDrillDown = false;
        //rpt.Refresh();
        crystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = rpt;
        // next line causes a delay due to the engine having to go to the last page.
        //rpt.FormatEngine.GetLastPageNumber(new ReportPageRequestContext());
    // set up the format export types:
    int myFOpts = (int)(
        CrystalDecisions.Shared.ViewerExportFormats.RptFormat |
        CrystalDecisions.Shared.ViewerExportFormats.PdfFormat |
        CrystalDecisions.Shared.ViewerExportFormats.RptrFormat |
        CrystalDecisions.Shared.ViewerExportFormats.XLSXFormat |
        CrystalDecisions.Shared.ViewerExportFormats.CsvFormat |
        CrystalDecisions.Shared.ViewerExportFormats.EditableRtfFormat |
        CrystalDecisions.Shared.ViewerExportFormats.ExcelRecordFormat |
        CrystalDecisions.Shared.ViewerExportFormats.RtfFormat |
        CrystalDecisions.Shared.ViewerExportFormats.WordFormat |
        CrystalDecisions.Shared.ViewerExportFormats.XmlFormat |
        CrystalDecisions.Shared.ViewerExportFormats.ExcelFormat |
        CrystalDecisions.Shared.ViewerExportFormats.ExcelRecordFormat);
        //CrystalDecisions.Shared.ViewerExportFormats.NoFormat); // show no export types
        //int myFOpts = (int)(CrystalDecisions.Shared.ViewerExportFormats.AllFormats);
    crystalReportViewer1.AllowedExportFormats = myFOpts;
    Only change is the Excel Export formats have changed, and no option to use the old Excel types available in CR 8.5. Search Kbase for Exporting to Excel, there is a great article on how to optimize your reports for best output.

  • Default setting for Budget Report S_ALR_87013558

    Dear All,
    In Budget Report S_ALR_87013558, when it is executed every time when we enter, 2 number formats are displayed, one in Lakhs (Factor 1,00,000) and one in units (Factor 1). When I change it to Factor 1 through "Number format", then it comes as per selection.
    This is only in prod server, dev server is ok.
    How can I make it default to normal for all users on client level, i.e. to Factor 1.
    Thanks
    Shubham

    Execute the report, now change the number format as per your requirement, now after changing, Press Ctrl+S, this will save the setting to this report. so if you execute the report system will take the number format which you saved as default setting.

  • Issue while exporting report in PDF using crystal report XI

    Hello,
    I am facing issue while exporting a report to PDF through crystal report XI. Reports are generating properly in the crystal report browser but when I am exporting the reports in PDF or trying to get print by clicking on print button, reports not generating properly.
    Allignment in the exported PDF reports getting changed and reports margin is also changes. Due to this some part of report is chopped and printed on the next page.
    I have deployed my application on IBM WebSphere 6.1 server and I am getting following error which might help to identify this issue.

    The stack trace is caused by whitespace in your CrystalReportViewer.jsp file.  Look up SAP Note 1199025 for the resolution.
    It's not related to the PDF formatting issue.  There's been changes to the formatting with the most recent version - Crystal Reports for Eclipse 2.0 - so if you haven't already, I recommend you upgrade.
    Note that there's differences in font metric calculation when using Adobe PDF format such that there's no way to get exact agreement between output of the CR and PDF.  But the latest version helps greatly.

  • SAP B1 Crystal Reports Add On and Crystal Report 2008

    Hi,
    I have posted the question at SAP Reporting Forum, but not much luck.
    The following reports is created in Crystal report 2008.
    From  http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/cr2008V1/en/CR2008_SP2_Fixed_Issues_en.pdf, I tnocie there could be moemry leak for Sybase Connectivity, but we are using ODBC.
    My client is using SAP 2007 SP00 PL49, SAP Crystal Report Add on is 2.0.0.7 and they have Beas 6.70.07
    They have encountered problem "The request cannot be submitted for background processing" after printing about 8 times of the same reports consecutively.  It is a work order reports which my clients prints for one operations at a time, with each operations generated 8 pages of output.  There are 5 jpeg on the report, which is not huge.
    Yes, I am aware there could be any problem related to that.
    What I notice is, on the workstation with SAP Business One client running, whenever user print a report named "Work Order", in the temp folder it creates one .rpt and 26 tmp files (Note that I have made up the number)
    Work Order {C0ECP901-C6F6.......}.rpt
    ~cpe{51DD9109........}.tmp
    ~cpe{71DD9109........}.tmp
    ~cpe{52DD9109........}.tmp
    ~cpe{53DD9109........}.tmp
    ~cpe{54DD9109........}.tmp
    At the moment, for a temporary solutions, everytimes when the error comes up, my client have to log off from SAP Business One, clear the temp folder and then relogin before they can print the same report.
    Anyone encounter the problem and manage to resolve. it.
    Edited by: Shwu Hua Gan on Aug 12, 2010 8:43 AM

    In case anyone is interested.
    I managed to drill down and get around with the following solutions.  Still in progress of monitoring, but seems to solve part of the problem.
    1. Open up the JPEG in Accessories--> Paint and notice that the JPEG is too big and cannot be seen without adjustting the scrolling bar.  Reduce the image size seems to work.
    2. The report is using dynamic graphic and reading JPEG path from a UDT with column 'type' and 'path'.  Subreport is used with record selection Type='Precheck'. When there was no Precheck type JPEG, it seems to crash.  We have asked client to add in type='precheck' and hyphen in path when it is not applicable.  In that sense, it will return something to the report.
    3. We also have subreport that read material issues.  when there was no material issue in the subreport, it crash.  So, we do the following:
    - section express - tick suppress blank section
    - right click subreport, tick suppress blank subreport.
    - in Subreport, at report option, we select suppress printing when no records.
    Note that workaround in point 3 does not seem to work for pictures.  So, it might be worth suppressing with formulas.

  • Crystal Reports 2008 connecting to Crystal Server 2011

    Hello SAP Experts,
    I am new with the Crystal Client/Server platform and the only knowledge I have with the infrastructure is from the Crystal Server 2011 documentation I have pulled from SAP's website.  I have looked at a lot of online resources but very few have the answers that I need.
    I built an instance of Crystal Server 2011 running on Windows Server 2008 R2.  Our clients are currently using Crystal Reports 2008 client where they connect directly to a SQL 2008 Data Warehouse to pull reports.
    For security reasons, they want to implement Crystal Server 2011 to connect to the SQL 2008 Data Warehouse as a single point of entry, instead of having several Crystal Reports 2008 clients connecting to the SQL Data Warehouse.
    The idea is to have the clients connect to the Crystal Server; the Crystal Server will then connect to the SQL Data Warehouse so clients can pull reports from it.
    My questions are:
    1.  Is it possible to connect a Crystal Reports 2008 client to Crystal Server 2011?  If so, how do I accomplish this?
    2.  Do I need to create a Universe in order for the Crystal clients to pull data/reports from the SQL 2008 Data Warehouse?  Or is there a way I can create a connection without a Universe?
    Any help offered is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Check our site for more info but in general CR fully respects all DB security, if the user does not have permissions on the table used in the report the report will fail to run.

    Based on the error message, the data source 'Warehouse Datasource' cannot be found. Please check, did you have add Warehouse Datasource.rds file in the same folder? In your case, it is located in: D:\Depot\Internal\BDW\BDW_Phase4\Src\BDW_R4.17.2\Reports\BDW_Reports
    If the issue is persist, please feel free to ask.

  • Writing 14 versions of report in one main crystal report

    I am new to working with crystal reports. I would like to know way(s) to  write 14 similar detail reports.
      I will be passing parameters from a vb.net windows application to a crystal report that will have 14 detail reports that are similar but the columns may be different based upon the selection category passed by the parameters.  Each version of the detail reports will be similar but vary depending upon the category that is selected.  The parameters past by the vb.net program to the crystal report will tell the crystal report what version of the report needs to display the data.
      The reports will only one one major selection criteria on them. These reports will be emailed out to each user user the request the detail infomation.
      Thus is there a way with crystal reports to have the reports similar but different based upon one major selction criteria? This would be similar to using cascading styles sheets on the web or writing a .net method that has the same name, but different parameters that can be passed to the 'methods' in .net.
       Thanks!

    I recommend posting this to the Report Design forum. To start off, you want to make the report to work in the CR designer. Once it is working there, you can move on to .NET development.
    BTW., see the [Rules of Engagement|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/wiki?path=/display/home/rulesofEngagement]
    Step 2 Asking Your Question; Provide Enough Information
    You may want to start with version of CR you are using, database you are using, DB connection type used, CR patch level and eventually, when the time comes, the version of .NET used.

  • Crystal Reports 7 ASP to Crystal Reports 2008

    Hello,
    Many many years ago my company wrote applications using ASP VB6, reporting was done using Crystal Reports version 7 and we used the Crystal.CRPE.Application object to generate and display crystal reports in our web applications.
    Some of our customers are looking at purchasing the new version of Crystal Reports 2008, my question is, can we still use the current API? Does Crystal Reports 2008 only support .NET applications? We would like to do this without a complete re-write of reporting for these legacy applications, and after searching the net and trying out the trial versions of 2008, I cant seem to get anywhere!!
    If anyone could shed some light on this it would be much appreciated.
    Kind Regards
    Andy Rayner

    Hello Andy,
    Direct CRPE API calls were retired long ago (with the release of v9 or v10). The Report Designer Component (RDC) was the last Crystal COM based development component that would work with VB6 and classic ASP.  The RDC was retired with the release of CR2008.
    The suggested migration path from classic ASP and VB6 is to move to the ReportDocument .NET object model.  There is also the Crystal Reports for Java (CRJ) component.
    There is quite a bit of information on the SAP website that will help you get started with Crystal Reports and Visual Studios .NET.  Here are the links:
    The [SAP SDN Network|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn]
    The [Business Objects page on the SDN Network|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/businessobjects]
    The [SDK Developer Library|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/sdklibrary] - Under .NET SDK look for the "Crystal Reports .NET SDK" Developer Guide link and API Reference link.
    [Code Samples|https://boc.sdn.sap.com/codesamples] - Look for the "Crystal Reports .NET SDK" link under .NET SDK's column.

    If you have specific questions about migrating to .NET please start a new thread for each question. If you need further clarification on the retirement information please reply to this thread.

  • Interactive Reports filter ignoring case

    Is there a way to have the built-in interactive report filter ignore case? I am currently passing the 'LIKE' filter to my interactive report to search for employee names. I want it to ignore the case so 'SMITH' would be the same as 'Smith' when doing search.
    ie. upper(:P1_NAME) like upper(EMP.NAME)

    But I'm not capturing the time. The default format is DD-MON-RR.
    This is crazy, I have used other Adhoc tools that didn't treat dates that way.
    Seeing as the operators change depending on the data type selected by the user, the option must be controlled in the application. Oracle is excluding it for some reason, but they really need to let the administrator control that.
    This is in Interactive Reports. The users don't want to have to format the dates, or anything else. They just want to filter the data to a certain date and the = sign should be allowed. If they are capturing time, then the administrator can truncate the date and make it available via another field/column.

  • OBIEE Answers does not display the result set of a report query

    Hi,
    We have a pivot table type of report in Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition v.10.1.3.3.2 Answers that has the following characteristics:
         3 Pages
         3 Sections , 4 Columns
         18363 Rows in the result set
    As per the NQQuery.log, the query for this report executes successfully resulting in 18363 rows. However, nothing comes up in the display on Answers. Moreover, no error is reported. The instanceconfig.xml file has the following setting:
    <PivotView>
         <CubeMaxRecords>30000</CubeMaxRecords>
         <CubeMaxPopulatedCells>300000</CubeMaxPopulatedCells>
    </PivotView>
    Even with these settings, Answers just returns a blank page - nothing is displayed in the name of the result set of the report query. Has anyone encountered this problem scenario before?
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Piyush

    Hi Fiston / Pradeep,
    Thanks for your inputs. A few points to note:
    -> I am actually not getting any error message in answers or the NQQuery log. Moreover I am not getting any errors related to "query governor limit exceeding in cube generation" also.
    -> I have other pivot table type of reports in the same repository that work fine. In fact the report which has this issue even works sometimes - what actually is happening is that if I alter the number of sections from 3 to 4, then the result set changes from 14755 Rows to 18363 Rows and as per the NQQuery.log in both cases the query completes successfully. However, when the result set has 14755 rows, I get to see the output in Answers; however when the result set is 18636 rows, the Answers screen just goes blank and does not show any output or error. This makes me believe that there is some parameter in instanceconfig or the NQSconfig file - I have tried a lot of changes but nothing works !
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Best Regards,
    Piyush

  • Comparison between Crystal Report Server XI R1, Crystal Report Server XI R1 , Business objects Enterpirse XI R1 and BOXI R2?

    Hello Everybody,
    I am new to Business Objects Enterprise. I need to know what is differnce between   Crystal Report Server XI R1and Crystal Report Server XI R1 ; Business objects Enterpirse XI R1 and BOXI R2?
    As a beginner, it will be very much helpful for me to learn in a better way and to go in the right track.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards,
    Annapoorani

    Annapoorani,
      I will start off with the basic difference beteen Crystal Report Server and Business Objects Enterprise.  We can continue on after this initial bit of information.
      Essentially, Crystal Report Server is a much like a subset of the full Enterprise Product line.  Whereas CRS is used for storing and scheduling Crystal Reports,  the Enterprise product extends this usability to also include Desktop Intelligence Reports as well as Web Intelligence reports.  There are also added features available with the full Enterprise Suite (depending on the licensing and installation) that also provide Performance Management, Dashboards and other enhancements.
    In the sence of XI vs XIR2,  XIR2 is more up to date with fixes and service packs.  You will find the original XI products to be closer to an end of lifecycle when it comes to support.
    As well, the newest release not mentioned in your line of questioning is Business Objects XI3.0.  Currently this is a java based deployment, but there will be a .NET version forthcoming.  Many new features have been added and you can find more information directly at www.businessobjects.com pages.  There is a full section on the website that outlines the various products.

  • Running multiple Crystal engines

    Hello,
    Currently, we have an application that has worked quite well with multiple crystal engines installed.  A client can have a report that exports as they expect in say Crystal Reports 10 and also create new reports against Crystal Reports 11 (or Release 2).  The client specifies (within a table in the our DB) which version of crystal to use with a given report and we have a report engine factory that returns the appropriate crystal engine to use for processing the report.
    Now the problem...
    I recently brought down the trial version of Crystal Reports 2008 and have attempted to create a .NET factory to deliver this report engine.  If I only have Crystal Reports 2008 accessed from our application, it will work as expected (for the most part - some features from the RDC no longer exist - but that is another story).  As soon as I attempt to run a report that requires a different crystal engine, the next engine in always fails.
    For example, if I run a Crystal 11 report after a successful Crystal 2008 report I will receive an "Invalid TLV record" error during the call of the "OpenReport" method.  At first I thought this was a possible bug in my code, but if I do the opposite (run the Crystal 11 report first then Crystal 2008), the Crystal 11 report will work without problems and then a Crystal 2008 report I will receive the error "Retrieiving the COM class factory for component with CLSID XXX failed due to the following error: 80000003" during the "OpenReport" method.
    Has anyone else experience this problem?  If so, is there a way to work around it?
    Thanks in advance any help you can provide,
    Tom

    Jason,
    Thanks for the response!
    OK, so I still think this is a problem and I've proven it by only writing .NET code.  Here is what I did.  I created three C# projects within a solution:
    1. A Crystal 11 Release 2 project that simply implements an interface that has three methods on it (OpenReport, RecordSelectionFormula, and CloseReport).  This project implements the .NET Crystal objects from Crystal 11 Release 2).
    2. A Crystal 2008 project that simply implements an interface that has three methods on it (OpenReport, RecordSelectionFormula, and CloseReport).  This project implements the .NET Crystal objects from Crystal 2008).
    3. A Windows project that simply calls on both of the above projects (both are referenced in this project) and calls "OpenReport", then "RecordSelectionCriteria" (in a MessageBox), and finally "CloseReport".
    "OpenReport" - uses ReportDocument.Load.
    "CloseReport" - uses ReportDocument.Close - extremely slow process!!!
    "RecordSelectionFormula" - uses ReportDocument.RecordSelectionFormula (my interface implements a set/get)
    As you can see I'm using NO COM at all.  When running this test project, I get the "Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID XXX failed due to the following error: 80000003." error even in this case.
    Below is an example of the "Windows project" code.  I have the entire example in a zip file that I can deliver to someone if they want to see exactly what I'm talking about.  I just didn't see a way to attach the example zip file with this post.

    using System;
    using System.Collections.Generic;
    using System.Windows.Forms;
    namespace TestProj
        static class Program
            /// <summary>
            /// The main entry point for the application.
            /// </summary>
            [STAThread]
            static void Main()
                Application.EnableVisualStyles();
                Application.SetCompatibleTextRenderingDefault(false);
                try
                    TestProj.CrystalEngine crystal11Release2 = new CrystalEngine();
                    crystal11Release2.OpenReport("Place your report name here...");
                    MessageBox.Show(crystal11Release2.RecordSelectionForumla);
                    crystal11Release2.CloseReport();
                    // You will see this error with a COM error even though no COM is being used in the project???
                    TestProj.Crystal2008 crystal2008 = new Crystal2008();
                    crystal2008.OpenReport("Please your report name here...");
                    MessageBox.Show(crystal2008.RecordSelectionForumla);
                    crystal2008.CloseReport();
                catch (Exception excep)
                    MessageBox.Show(excep.Message);
                Application.Exit();
    =====================================================================
    Just to reiterate, I have no COM implemented in this example and yet the same problem occurs.
    Any assistance with this problem would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks again,
    Tom
