Setting frame rate

I have some ProRes HQ files that are set as 30fps but the contents are really 24fps or 18fps. What is the best way to get the footage set to the correct frame rate?
These are actually 8mm and super8 films that were captured frame by frame and the captured files were tagged as 30fps, not the real frame rate.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Tim

I was able to create an image sequence and export an 18fps clip using AE. Unfortunately, FCP doesn't seem to allow a sequence with 18fps setting. If I put the clip into a sequence with a higher frame rate, FCP just generates an odd cadence -- AABBCDDEEFGGHHI (or similar for 30fps seq) and doesn't allow me to have frame accurate edits (unless I run through the cadence to find the break.) The bigger issue is I would rather have a smoother output than the odd cadence.
Is there a way to get FCP to generate an 18fps sequence that I can edit in and export from? Or maybe I need to switch to Premier Pro? I'll retime in Shake after the edits since it will generate interpolated frames and create a smoother final output.

    When saving an animated GIF in Elements 8 (running on Mac OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard) I can't modify the frame rate. It is set at the default .2 delay and can't be modified. Anyone know of a fix for this?
    Thanks.

    Thanks Barbara... I have used that very workaround already - but was hoping there was a solution so I could just do it in the app designed for this! So unfortunate that Adobe knows about this bug and hasn't fixed it!

  • Setting Frame Rate on RAW stream...

    Ok, how hard can this be. I have a live RAW video stream that I was to display at 30fps instead of the default 15fps. My camera fully supports 30fps because I can set this option when I capture from JMStudio. I have tried the setFrameRate() method from the FrameRateControl interface to no avail. Help is much appreciated!!!!!

  • Setting frame rate for project?

    I know this sounds like a dumb question.  I'm having a bad hair day today.  Just bought CoreMelt TrackX, and it isn't working properly.  Jump to Motion.  This is a Cinema 4K project.  I set the default in the preferences to Digital Cinema 4K, which is automatically 23.98 fps.  But.  When I look at my Project 'Properties' it tells me I'm running at 29.97 fps.  And the Inspector won't let me change the fps.  I imported a clip at 4K 23.98 fps, and exported it out as source ... and I get 29.97 fps.
    So, I'm just wondering where else I might have control over the fps in Motion?  Or why I might be having this illogical discrepancy?
    All ears,
    Ben

    Shut my mouth.  I set the presets to 4K.  Then created a NEW project, and the fps was as it is supposed to be.  I thought I'd done this twice before.  Maybe three times lucky.  So my question is answered, thank you, until further notice, touch wood.

  • How to determine the accuracy of the frame rate using a Basler sca640-70gm?

    To whom it may concern
    I am guessing that the time between each frame varies from a nominal set frame rate.
    How do I set that nominal frame rate?
    How do I determine what the actual (frame by frame) frame rate or time between frames was in post pressing of the "video" image.
    Thank you,
    Todd
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    It is almost impossible to measure the frame rate accurately by measuring the time between consecutive frames.  The latency of sending the images over the ethernet means they won't arrive at the computer with the same exact spacing they were taken at.  Also, measuring the length of one short interval in LabVIEW is also very difficult.  Windows latencies and other issues could make your measurement be off by quite a bit.
    The only way I can see to verify the frame rate is to use a digital input into a counter and wire the shutter signal directly from the camera into the digital input.  You could program the counter to measure between the rising edges of the shutter signal, and you would find out the frame rate is indeed very accurate and repeatable.
    The only other way I know to accurately measure the frame rate in LabVIEW is to measure the time over a large number of frames (thousands) and divide the number of frames by the total time.  Any minor errors in measuring the timing of a single frame go away with the large number of frames.

  • FrameRateControl to change frame rate

    I have created code that runs on both Linux and windows.
    The purpose of this code is to change the frame rate of capture device(webcam).
    I have created a processor, and player, get FrameRateControl, and use setFrameRate(5.0f).
    I have tried multiple combinations, just processor, just player, etc. and tried setting frame rate to different number, without success.
    stopping processor, stopping player, setting frame rate, the starting again, and frame rate does not change!!
    I have even created a ProcessorModel, with one format, specified frame rate, but still doesn't change.
    Any one have ideas, or suggestions????
    I can post code, but has lots of comments, and is messy, just a warning.

    tcp packets are always waiting for ack thats why performance are low - and the error correction mechanizem ensuring data will reach his destination is also not helping you -
    you will have to use udp - (rtp/udp)

  • Setting video frame rate

    Hi,
    Are there someone had been able to control frame rate of video chating with actionscript or somthing else?
    I have no preference which would be to set it in static or dynamic.
    Thank you
    Ono Keiji

    you can use your camera and microphone when connected to Stratus.  however, you can only publish your camera/microphone for direct connections (new NetStream(nc, NetStream.DIRECT_CONNECTIONS)), and subscribers must use the direct connect API to get the stream from you (new NetStream(nc, <your-peer-id>)).  in this mode, your video/audio stream never goes to the server, but travels directly from you (the publisher) to the subscribers.  that's the *only* mode that Stratus supports.
    because your stream may be received by multiple peers, you must choose a bandwidth (and other encoding parameters) that is likely to fit through the path(s) between the publisher and subscriber(s).  if the encoding parameters you've chosen exceed the bandwidth between publisher and subscriber, eventually frames will be dropped.  also in bandwidth exhaustion situations, because audio is higher priority than video, you may see audio and video go out of sync at the publisher.
    if you set a fixed frame rate and a bandwidth cap, then the encoder will vary the quality to fit within the parameters you've fixed.

  • Is there a way for the tracker to do key frames at the frame rate of the comp setting?

    I was doing some tracking in a 24fps project (yes my comp settings are correct) and I was really annoyed to see that the track looked to be generating key frames at 29.98fps. Of course this means crazy jittering.
    Is there a way I can change the rate that tracker generates key frames?
    Please help. I use CS3.
    Thank you in advance for your help.

    (I assume that you mean 29.97, not 29.98.)
    In all versions of After Effects, the motion-tracking keyframes are set at the frame rate of the footage item on which the layer is based, not at the composition's frame rate.
    Have you checked to see that your footage item is interpreted to be 24fps?
    Also, are you sure that this "jittering" that you're seeing is because of the rate of the motion-tracking keyframes?

  • How to set the Codec, Frame rate, Bit rate, and Resolution for iMovie 10.0.5

    To upload a video to Vimeo, I need to be able to set the codec, frame rate, bit rate and resolution to make sure the file is compressed to under 500 MB. Where in iMovie 10.0.5 am I given the option to adjust these settings?
    Thank you!

    Another question is in continuous mode, NI DAQmx uses Samples per channel to determine the buffer size. But according to the website you specified, it says if the acquisition is continuous (sample mode on the DAQmx Timing.vi is set to Continuous Samples), NI-DAQmx will allocate a buffer according to the following table. And for sample rate between 100 - 10,000 S/s, the buffer size is 10 kS. So if I set the sample rate to be 5000 S/s, and set the Samples per channel to be 20000, then what exactly the buffer size is? 20 kS or 10 kS?
    Thanks.

  • Need to set my own frame rate preset

    Where in Final Cut Express can I type in my own frame rate preset? I'm importing YouTube video at 640x480.
    Message was edited by: rsherid

    I scrapped Express and installed Final Cut Pro HD. I set the frame rate sequence preset at 640x480 (i.e., the frame rate of all my imported video) and it's still forcing me to render it. Could someone kindly walk me through the setup (Easy Setup, Audio/Video settings, etc.) so I don't have to keep rendering 640x480 video? It'd be greatly appreciated.

  • How do I set the frame rate to 12fps on my video, and it not change randomly?

    Hi, I imported a video layer from file then set the frame rate to 12fps, when I play the video it keeps changing the frame rate to random times. How do I keep it at 12fps

    Click the windows start button, then right click on computer, this will bring up a window that will tell you how much ram your system has.
    Also Start>Accessories>System Tools>System Information will give you all the details you need to know.
    As for Codec, That is an abreviation for code/decode it tells windows how to code when saving a video and how to decode when playing a video. Most formats are wrappers (avi, wmv, mov, rt) Each of these have a codec that you can choose from when saving a video, that codec then must be installed on the users computer to see that same video. Most formats come with a basic number of codecs and the creator of the video can purchase other codecs that provide better feature set.
    What the codec really does is takes the video and compresses it like a zip file then the user when playing require that codec to uncompress it.
    So each codec has its own strength and weaknesses. Some can compress more making a smaller file and perhaps inturn removes more data to get that compression and therefore has a poorer quailty video (just an example)
    I am sure you heard of a few codecs if you think about it. mpg, mp2, mp3, mp4, h.264 and so on. Mp3 is the only one I listed here that is for audio only. Yep thats right even audio uses codecs.

  • Setting jmf bit rate/ frame rate

    Hi!!
    I'm with some problems configuring my video settings.
    Where should I go to set the frame rate od my video streaming?
    I'm using H263 format, and the frame rate is variable and I want to set it for a lower value so that my video streaming can be more "fluid".
    Should I go to Control Panel of the Windows and change there at Multimedia codecs?
    Regards from Portugal

    Here You have sample how to specify frame rate (in this exampke - 10f). I use here data from video caprure and create processor with ProcessorModel. Then I send it by network (RAW_RTP - in this dimentions it id H263)
    VideoFormat vf = null;
    Dimension size = new Dimension(176, 144);
    vf = new VideoFormat("RGB", size, Format.NOT_SPECIFIED,     null, 10f);
    Format [] formats = new Format[] { vf };
    ContentDescriptor cd = new ContentDescriptor(ContentDescriptor.RAW_RTP);
    ProcessorModel proc_mod = new ProcessorModel(dsCapt, formats, cd);
    dsCapt is DataSource from my capture device.

  • Where is the frame rate setting control when making a slide show?

    I am trying to make a slide show using QuickTime Pro and cannot find the frame rate control.I put all my consectively-numbered jpegs in one folder. I then clicked on "File," the "Open Image Sequence," then a window opened up and I click on the first jpeg in the series of photos I want in my slide show. Then the first image appears in the QT Window. The instructions next say that I should be able to change the rate at which each slide/jpeg appears, but it doesn't tell you where to find the "frame rate" so I can change it. It doesn't appear at all on its own, so where is it? Anything else I'm missing? Thank you.

    What version of Photoshop Elements and or Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system?
    In addition, could you please clarify?
    It sounds like you are creating your slideshow in the Elements Organizer. Where are you seeing these distortions and blurs, in the Elements Organizer Slideshow Editor Filmstrip or in the Premiere Elements workspace after you have transferred the slideshow from the Elements Organizer 9 Slideshow Editor to Premiere Elements workspace?
    What are the pixel dimensions of the photos in this slideshow and how many of these photos are in the slideshow? What format are they in..jpg, psd, other?
    With regard to what you wrote:
    Also how do I transport them from Elements to Premier, it has a tab to do that but when I get to the elements file I don't know where to drag and drop into.
    If you are in the Elements Organizer Slideshow Editor and use the Output option Edit with Premiere Elements, then you would expect the automatic transfer of the slideshow to Premiere Elements, with a copy in video format (.psess) in the project media as well as on the Timeline. Nothing for you to drag and drop.
    For all those reasons, I am asking for clarification.
    Thanks.

  • Best sequence setting to edit 23.98 and 29.97 frame rates on???

    I'm making a documentary film that has source material at 2 different frame rates. Our cameras shot DVC Pro HD 720p at 23.98, however the stock footage which makes up about half the film is XDCAM EX 1080P shot at 23.98. Any suggestions on the best way to handle this. I tried converting the XDcam footage to match ours at 23.98 in compressor but it gets a strobey look to it. Would it be better to edit on a 29.97 timeline or ?????

    They are both 23.98 frame rates...so your topic doesn't make sense. If you have 23.98 frame rates, edit on a 23.98 timeline. WHy would you choose a 29.97 timeline?

  • Creating a Gif is different frame rate

    If I have an uncompressed .AVI file that I created in After Effects CS5.5 which is 23.976 fps, and load it in Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5, and tell it to create a .GIF of it, at an output fps of 23.976, when I load the created .GIF into Adobe After Effects it tells me the frame rate is 25 fps and there is a black frame padded on the end.  I want the frame rate of the GIF to be what I ask it to be, ie. 23.976, with no additional black frames.
    Here's what happened with screenshots:
    1. I load the uncompressed AVI file that was created in Adobe After Effects CS5.5 into Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5.  Note below that Adobe Media Encoder is saying that the source clip is 23.976 fps, and that the export settings are to create an animated GIF at 23.976 fps.
    2. After Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5 has said "done" (Encoding Completed Succesfully) for this export to a .GIF, if I take that .GIF file that Adobe Media Encoder has just created into Adobe After Effects CS5.5, this is what it says:
    As can be seen above, Adobe After Effects CS5.5 is saying the GIF file that Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5 has just encoded is actually 25 fps, not 23.976 fps like I told it to be exported as.  Also, the GIF Adobe Media Encoder has created is 10 frames long, whereas my original uncompressed AVI is 9 frames long.
    Edit: I've just been reading up on the GIF format and it seems it doesn't store a frame rate but instead stores a frame delay, which is in hundredths of a second.  If this is just an integer, is this the reason for the displayed frame rate discrepancy, ie. 1 frame at 23.976 fps  would be 4.1708 hundredths of a second I think, and 1 frame at 25 fps would be 4 hundredths of a second I think - both rounded to the nearest integer would be 4 hundredths of a second so would the frame delay be set to "4" for both 23.976 fps and 25 fps? (there is also the fact that some short time will be taken for the drawing of the frame)
    Though even with the above, it shouldn't be increasing the amount of output frames.  It converts it correctly (no additional frames) if I use VirtualDub to convert the AVI to GIF instead of Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5.

    Thanks.  Could you get them to also check other parts of the code too.  eg. when I had a work area set in Adobe After Effects CS5.5 and then loaded that project into Adobe Media Encoder (dynamic link etc.) and rendered just the work area I think it was about a frame out then too - I don't think it was a GIF in that case but another type (maybe AVI/H264).
