Setting ID of VO through a service layer method
I have a VO based on EO which has mandatory ID field. Now i want to set this ID from a method in my service layer while creating new row of VO. How i can do this because when i presses submit button on my view, it gives me validation error that ID is required. Help me
You can set the id field type to be dbsequence - this will place a temporary value in it, that you can overwrite later.
Or you can change the component in your UI to remove the required property from it.

This layer provides ALE with an interface to R/3 to originate or receive messages containing data to or from external (or other R/3) systems.
Processing in the ALE layer consists of the following steps.
Receiver determination. If the receivers are not known, they are determined from the customer distribution model. If a receiver is not found, processing ends. For each receiver identified in this step,
the following steps are executed.
1)IDoc filtering. If an IDoc filter is specified in the distribution model for a receiver, values in the filter are compared against the values in the IDoc data records. If a data record does not
meet the filter criteria, it is dropped.
2)Segment filtering. For each sender and receiver combination, a set of segments that are not required can be filtered out.
3)Field conversion. Field values in data records are converted by using the conversion rules specified for the segment. Values can be converted to global values or converted to specific values for the receiver. For example, storage location 0001 can correspond to storage location 1000 in the receiving system. The rules specified here are also available in the EIS (Executive Information System) module.
4)Version change for segments. Segments are version−controlled. A new version of a segment always contains fields from the preceding version and fields added for the new version. Thus, the segment can communicate with a back−level system by blanking out the new fields. Read
the version specified in the Seg. Release in IDoc Type field of the partner profile to determine the version of the segment to be generated.
5)Version change for IDocs. IDocs, like the segments, are also version−controlled. A new version of an IDoc always contains segments of the preceding version and segments added in the new version. Thus, the IDoc can communicate with a back−level system by deleting segments that do not exist in the version specified. The version is determined from the Basic Type field of the partner profile.
6)Communication IDocs generated. The final IDoc generated for a receiver after all the conversions and filtering operations is the communication IDoc. One master IDoc can have
multiple communication IDocs, depending on the number of receivers identified and the filter operations performed. Communication IDocs are saved in the SAP database. At this point, a tangible IDoc that can be viewed by using monitoring tools has been created in the system.
The IDoc gets a status record with a status code of 01 (IDoc Created).
7)Syntax check performed. The IDoc goes through a syntax check and data integrity validation. If errors are found, the IDoc gets a status code of 26 (Error during Syntax Check
of IDocOutbound); if no errors are found, the IDoc gets a status code of 30 (IDoc Ready for DispatchALE Service).
8)IDocs dispatched to the communication layer. In the ALE process, IDocs are dispatched using the asynchronous RFC method, which means that the sending system does not wait for data to be received or processed on the destination system. You read the setting in the Output
Mode field of the partner profile to determine the timing of the dispatch. If the mode is set to Transfer IDoc Immed., IDocs are immediately transferred to the communication layer; if not,
they are buffered until the next run of dispatch program RSEOUT00. After IDocs have been transferred to the communication layer, they get a status code of 03 (Data Passed to Port OK). This status does not necessarily mean that IDocs have been dispatched to the destination
system. -

The technology set we are supposed to use is Jdeveloper 10g with ADF. Currently ADF business service layer offers following set of technologies. The question is which of following technologies meets these four criterias the BEST? (1) Security, 2)24x7 Reliability and Maintenace overheads (3)Speed /Performance of the server response to client requests (4) integration with Oracle database.
Please advise. Any technet/metalink oracle document that compares these various business layer technology would be great indeed.

Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) Session Beans
Since most J2EE applications require transactional services, EJB session beans are a logical choice because they offer declarative transaction control. Behind the EJB session bean facade for your business service, you use plain old Java objects (POJOs) or EJB entity beans to represent your business domain objects. JDeveloper offers integrated support for creating EJB session beans, generating initial session facade implementations, and creating either Java classes or entity beans. You can also use Oracle TopLink in JDeveloper to configure the object/relational mapping of these classes.
JavaBeans
You can easily work with any Java-based service classes as well, including the ability to leverage Oracle TopLink mapping if needed.
Web Services
When the services your application requires expose standard web services interfaces, just supply Oracle ADF with the URL to the relevant Web Services Description Language (WSDL) for the service endpoints and begin building user interfaces that interact with them and present their results.
XML
If your application needs to interact with XML or comma-separated values (CSV) data that is not exposed as a web service, this is easy to accomplish, too. Just supply the provider URL and optional parameters and you can begin to work with the data.
ADF Business Components.
These service classes are a feature of the ADF Business Components module, and expose an updateable dataset of SQL query results with automatic business rules enforcement.

As I was able to make out from the error that this is issue related to tablespace but the tablespace set by DBA is autoextendable with a max size of 8 GB and the table space size currently was 1 GB. Do you forsee any other problem here.

The current JTA transaction is aborting due to an user rollback fault being thrown. The upstream component should retry in a new JTA transaction upon catching this fault.
This exception was caused by a global retry fault being thrown from downstream component. The user had directed the BPEL engine to roll back the current JTA transaction and retry within new JTA transactions for the specified number of times and retry interval.
There is no action recommended.

Question about service layer design
I have a question about the design/architecture of service model layers, specifically the task service layer.
Could a task service be a small "action", ie an operation that doesn't require composition? So if I have a requirement to allow customers to update their personal info, like address, would I have a task service named ChangeCustomerMailingAddress, that in turn calls the update operation on the Customer entity? Or would it be better to call the entity service directly? Another example would be retrieving data, like RetrieveCustomerBillingHistory, would that be a separate task service, or just a get/read operation on the Customer entity service?

Now talking about "application design", I'm not sure what you mean. Are you talking about graphical user interfaces? In that case you would want to look into Swing, and that is indeed part of the standard edition API set. -

Creation of folder and subfolder in library through web service
Hi,
Facing an issue in creating folder in library through SOAP service.
I'm sending a request to sharepoint site for creation of folder.The folder gets created in sharepoint but service returs error as "Error id=2, failed"
And when i'm trying to create subfolder under the above folder service throws an exception saying "FolderNotFound"
The same service is working on other env.

Define the receivers in your distribution model for this message type or deactivate distribution for these message types.

How is this possible and is this in fact possible?

I don't know how to explain this in an easy way, so instead let me put out the scenarios i have tried:
Local System with EnableRbacReporting=1 Without any SPN's registered other than the ones the system makes for us:
When this is the case we cannot remotely access the reportserver and pass variables to the reports (using the
HTTP://Servername/ReportServer.aspx?blabla), but we can access the report and manually give the report the parameters.
Execution time: ~8-10 minutes.
Local System with EnableRbacReporting=0 Without any SPN's registered other than the ones the system makes for us:
Everything works as it should. We can access the report, and pass the username and device variables used in our URL.
Execution time: ~20-30 seconds.
Service Account EnableRbacReporting=1 with SPN registered on the username both with a port given and without a port given (in total 4 SPN registrations):
We can access the report server and pass the variables given to the URL which we need and everything in regards to Reports work as they should.
BUT, the Web Services which we also have on this server does not work, and no SPN registrations changes that (it run's under other user accounts).
Execution time: ~8-10 minutes.
So, as you can see it's not a matter of the execution time when we run on a service account, it's a matter of the remote usage.
In regards of your 1% overhead, this is NOT the numbers we see in this environment.
I can't see how changing the queries do much, when i can conclude that when simply changing the registry changes the execution time. (also, it's a builtin report).
So if we should look into something in that regard, it might be better to look at the stored procedure running the RBA? (or am i off here?)
The installation is as follows:

Server B: SQL 2008 R2 SP2 CU13 / Reporting Services
Server C: WSUS
Server D: MP
Server E: MP
DP's in total is about 80
And this is not a subject to change.

I would very much like it if we used the RBA, but to this customer, it gives him NO value, and i cannot possibly see how i can keep using the RBA other than if i get the other web services off this machine.
And this is not in scope atm.

Well i have just installed NSU and ran it for the first time and this is the error message i am getting while the splash screen is displayed.
"Nokia Service Layer Host Process has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
everytime i get this.
I've seen the topic about an "internal error" and tried the dll fix but that didn't work.
any suggestions?turned out it was my firewall which was preventing the application to connect to the net to check for anything.
i turned off zonealarm but somehow it still locked it out so i had to keep zonealarm running and give the NSU access when it ran.
Kinda strange that zonealarm locked it when the firewall wasn't running but its fixed now.

Vertical photos in CS4 gallery creator
Ok, so I know that when you take a photo and change its size by a percentage thats not 12.5%, 25, 50, 75 and 100% the image becomes distorted and lines become jagged. I have all my images edited and converted to JPEG to put into a gallery in Bridge C
