Setting project start position

Hi - newbie question here: how do i set the project start position? At the moment I have a 'count in' which I would like to keep, but for the purposes of working with the rest of the project i would like to make what is now the second bar to show as the first bar (with previous bars as "minus" numbers. Any suggestions? It is possible?

I can't not set Poject Start Point, as described on p 151 of manual. "You can move the project start point to an earlier position" . Can anyone do this?

I'm unable to change the Project Start Point. ( I can change the end point easily)
On page 151 of the manual it states:

I can't find a way to do it. Are other able to change it. If so, please explain the procedure.

Anyway, try this:
For the sake of this demonstration start a new project.
Click the mouse pointer on the playhead in the ruler,
now the project start indicator should appear, hover the mouse pointer above it until this indicator appears,
when you see it left click, hold and scroll to the left.

Set Start Position to Calculate Travel Time in Calendars

Hi All,
I am quite impressed with the new traveling time feature in Calendars, however I cannot seem to get the best out of it.
Is there a way to reset the start position for the calculations, I am thinking about the following senario;
Three appointments in the same day Appointment one calculates OK but appointment two calculates the start from the office and not the location of appointment one. Same thing happens with appointment three.
What I want to do is set the first appointment, calculate travelling time, set the second and calculate the traveling time from appointment one and then the same with appointment three.
The only way I have found to do this is to jump back and forward between calendar and maps and manually calculate like I used to do before this update.

To set your starting location, Calendar first looks for your location in any events that are up to three hours before this event. If Calendar doesn’t find a location, it uses your work address during work hours and your home address during other hours. (Your work hours are set in Calendar preferences using the “Day starts at” and “Day ends at” menus.) If your card in Contacts doesn’t have your addresses, Calendar uses your computer’s current location.

How can i set the pointer of a resultset to its start position? newbie.. :(

i have a resultset of a sql query. then i wanna count the number of rows by doing a while loop:
while(rs.next())
count++;
then i wana do the same again, but it does not work anymore. i guess i have to set the pointer to its starting position, but i tried beforeFirst(), first(), absolute() and it didnt work. what method do i have to use for this?

Use the getType method to determine if your ResultSet is of type TYPE_FORWARD_ONLY. If it is
then you cannot reset the cursor. You may be able to obtain a result set that allows reseting the cursor by
passing the appropriate arguments to the createStatement method of your Connection. Whether your
will get one or not depends on the JDBC driver you are using and whether it supports them.

Can't reset project start point

I decided to add a four bar introduction to a song in logic, and dragged the 'project start' point back to -3 bars. Then I realised when I bounced, it began from 0, so I just selected all and moved everything forward four bars.
Now, I know I could have used cycle to set my own start and end points for the bounce, but now that I have everything starting at 0, why can I not bring back the project start point to 0? It stays at -3, and I hate having to wait 4 bars for my song to start after I hit O to play the song from the top.
Can anyone help? Many, many thanks if possible. I'm extremely frustrated!

Because there maybe is Automation happening before the 1 1 1 1 point. So open any Automation event list with a Keycommand - hit command+1 - a new Arrange page opens displaying the Automation regions - cut those regions at 1 1 1 1 with the scissor tool or by selecting them all and using the Keycommand for "cut at playhead position" and then delete everything before 1 1 1 1.

Start position follows playback

I am new to waveburner (and logic). I am looking for a way to set waveburner so when the transport is stopped, the cursor (start position) returns to the previous start position. In other words, you can start and stop playback repeatedly and the playback always begins from the same location.
The default behavior is having the start position follow the cursor during playback. I would like to change this...
Is this possible?
I know this is an option in both cubase and protools...

Hi Zak:
You can probably accomplish this by setting up a loop in Waveburner. (Do a search for Looping Playback in the WaveBurner manual). Loops can, according to the manual, be set up as follows:
To define a cycle area
In either time ruler, drag from the desired loop start position to the point where you want
looping to end.
Drag either of the cycle area handles to resize an existing cycle area.
You can also grab the center of the cycle area to move it, without changing the cycle
length.
That said, this used to work for me, but no longer does. I am going to post a message to that effect and find out if anyone has a solution.

How to set the X-position and Y-position

You want to change to x/y position of what? The main frame?
If it is the Frame class take a look into the CDC/PP specification:
"An implementation may prohibit resizing of Frames by a user. In such a case, attempts to make any Frame resizable will fail silently"

Project started from past

Dear all,
Could you help me on the following question?
Generally speaking, the start date of the project is today.
Now, my project started more than one year ago.
Although I set the start date of the project in 2006, the basic time of the network and activities still starts from today.
How can I make the activities and network start from 2006? How should I configure the scheduling? Please give me some clues.

In Planning Board under Settings->options, set "Start in the past" greater than 365 and run scheduling. When this entry is blank system rum todays schedule and reset the date to current date.

Across then Down with Start position

Hello All,
I am trying to print a label in a single page using multi-column (Two Columns) and Across Then Down option of Crystal. The result in my report looks like

3 4
But I have a parameter set ?startposition which takes input and guides report to print its starting position from that point. Lets say for the above data if i input 2 then data should print like
1
2 3
4
similarly if the ?startpositin value is 3 then output should be
(first Line is empty)
1 2
3 4
Please let me know if anybody can help on this.

have a look at the attached report. extract the contents and change the .txt extension to .rpt.
this is not a report that was designed as a Label report, but is a multi-column report. see the section expert for the Details section if you're not familiar with multi-column reports. note in the Layout tab the options used.
also note that there are 3 groups in the report to make this happen. each of the group headers are conditionally suppressed based on the parameter. the groups are 'fake groups' and not based on any database fields. this is also important. the fake group formula is whilereadingrecords; ''

Unable to Change Project Start Date in Project Server 2013

Dear All,
I have created new EPT in Project Server 2013. After that, when i am creating any new project in PWA 2013 by using newly created EPT, then i am not able to change Date as per my requirement.
Basically, EPT created on 02/18/2015 & even though i am changing Project start date then its again showing same date (02/18/2015)
Kindly suggest what i can do.

Does this new EPT have a project plan template associated? What happens if you set the EPT not to have a plan template then create a new project from this EPT? Does that let you update the start date? The start date should default to today (date the project
plan was created). If that works as expected, add the plan template back to the EPT (if you had one to start with) and test creating another project to see if that then works or you then get the same behaviour. This will point us to the cause hopefully.
Do other EPTs work as expected?

Set slider path position via calc

So I have a simple display icon (Icon title = Flash Movie
Position Slider) object set with the following settings:
Positioning = On Path
Movable = On Path
Base = 0
Initial = 0
End = 100
I know how to get the current position using PathPosition or
DisplayX, but how do I set it via code? I have tried using
SetIconProperty for LocationX, BaseX, InitialX but none work. Other
than just the user sliding the slider I want the slider to move on
it's own during the flash video playing. I have the calculation
down to set an X position based on the current frame, just cant
find that magic setting to specify a value to the path to make it
happen.
PS: This is not using the WinCtrls slider just a basic
Authorware path using a display icon.

The Flash Sprite help file will tell you how to get the

Project Start Date – modification after project was saved.

I created new project with a start date 01/April/2015 and saved it. Next, I change the start date to 14/April/2015 in the setup.
However still in statistics windows I see the start date as 01/April/2015. Additionally, every new task has start date 01/April/2015.
Could you please advise me how can I change that?

1.Firstly I set up project start date as 01/04/2015 in Project, Project Information and in File, Project Information and save document.
2. Afterwards, I modified start date into 14/04/2015 in the same places.
However, the date in Project, Project Information - Statistics was still 01/04/2015 (please check screenshot).
3. But finally, after several openings and closing of the document the date in Statistics is correct (hard to say what is the reason).

Actvities before the Project Start Date

Every now & then, we will get an activity which is a precursor to a project kicking off as a project start date so in theory from that start date would be known as either week 1 or Month 1.
So in this case, any actvivity starting a month for example before the kick off date should be shown in "- Month 1" but in Project 2013, it takes this new date as Month 1 even when the Project Start Date has not changed.
The earlier versions of Project, you could manipulate this so what's changed?...Is there a way around this?
I am not using Project server as will never use it to save myself from grief & stress!...prefer to keep it simple!

I couldn't test it with 2013 but with 2010 the week numbering starts at the project start date, so you can have a project start date on a certain date which will be your week1, and then set predecessors with no impact on the numbering.
If you confirm that this behavior jas changed with 2013 version, an option could be to enter as manually scheduled tasks with no dates the tasks prior to the project start date, using custom fields to enter the actual dates.

Help scheduling tasks from both project start date and from later deliverable dates

I am trying to set up a project scheduling template for a number of similar projects.
These projects will require initial work to be completed at the project start date, working through the critical path to an end date.
However. Certain milestones/deliverables are required on specific dates in teh project (they are recievable by internal customers on firm dates). I am having trouble scheduling my predecessors for these deliverables to occur as late as possible.
I.e. I want my procurement to start x-weeks (depending on the task) before the deliverable is due.
Trying to manually set the deliverable date and hoping project will work back and adjust the predecessors to fit isnt quite working... is this possible?

Actually this is probably a very common scheduling scenario. Schedules often have interim milestones, sometimes with fixed dates.
Just-in-time scheduling has received a fair amount of press in the past but in my view it has some very real negative downsides. I believe the best plans have contingency built in to allow for unknown problems. For example, let's say you have a task that
must deliver an item on a particular date and in order to build that item you need to order material. You know the built and test time, it's all done by machine, takes 10 days, and doesn't vary from item to item. The lead time for the material is 6 weeks,
so you set up the schedule to place the material order 8 weeks before the delivery date. However, there is a problem, the vendor who supplies the material has a problem at his factory and the material is delayed such that it won't be delivered in 6 weeks but
instead it will take 8 weeks. Because you have not allowed for contingency in your plan, your delivery date is now in jeopardy.
But to answer your question, one way to set up the predecessor you want is as follows. Using my example above, the Place Order task, let's say the delivery date task is task ID 5 and is a milestone. The place order task could have a predecessor of 5SF-40d,
or 5FS-40d will also work if the place order task and the delivery date are both milestones.
