Setting properties on pooled connections

If I get a connection from a pool and call setReadOnly(true) and setTransactionIsolation(ex:
read uncommited)
Do I have to manage resetting these values back myself at the end of my method?
OR
Does the pool automatically reset the connection back when it is returned to the
pool?

JasonWhat version of weblogic are you using? We will reset the isolation level
when you close
the connection (putting it back into the pool). I don't think we reset
the read-only status,
and this is a gap in our coverage.
Joe
Version is WL 6.1 sp4.
So, if transaction level is reset, but not setReadOnly() - perhaps I just need
to reset the 'readOnly' attribute on the pooled connection in a 'finally' block
at the end of the method to ensure it is reset.That would be perfect. Thanks.
Here's the safest form of a finally block:
finally
if (conn != null)
// each call in it's own 'try' so all are definitely done
try {conn.setReadOnly(false);} catch (Exception ignore){}
try {conn.close();} catch (Exception ignore){}

    actually, no, the thin driver reacts badly to being told a server. It tries to
    become the type-2 driver and use the Oracle OCI stuff. If the customer can
    make a standalone program connect to the DBMS with that driver and URL,
    then maybe they need to alter the classpath of the server to have that
    driver come before any weblogic stuff. We ship an older version of the
    driver, and that may be being used because it's ahead in the classpath.

  • What are the correct parameter names for a JDBC pool connection?

    Looking in the admin console I notice the differences in the properties name (type casting) of PointBasePool and __TimerPool pool connections properties and the create wizard properties.
    PointBasePool and __TimerPool uses this name parameters: User,Password, and DatabaseName.
    Create wizard uses these: databaseName, user, password.
    So, then, what is the standard names for a connection in SOA8? What is the standard for JDBC?
    For example, Tomcat 4 uses username, password, url, driverClassName as parameters names.
    Please help,
    This is getting more and more confising,
    Thanks,
    Lorenzo Jimenez

    The properties that you specify when creating the connection pool are unique to the vendor.
    Any or the properties that you specify user,password, url...etc we expect to have setters (setUser, setPassword, setUrl)

  • Best practice for auditing a SP 2010 BCS scenario with a SQL Server pooled connection.

    I'm using SP 2010 BCS to connect to a SQL Server db. For this, I've used SSS and am passing SQL credentials to take advantage of pooled connections. I'd like to pass the user context (user ID/User name) to the database so that I can do auditing, such as
    created by and last modified by. What is the best approach to make this work while still using a pooled connection?
    I've thought about modifying the external list forms so that I capture and pass down user context info, however, I'd like not to rely on this in case the external content type is consumed by another consumer such as an Office product, etc.

    Hi,
    There is no good way to do it.
    You can set the created by and modified by columns as input parameters for the create and update operations and using ajax to set values for both of columns.

    Hi, i have a problem with OMBPLUS:

    Hi Mohan. This is a sybase-only issue. If you set the drivermanager's
    log stream to system.out, and make a connection in a simple standalone
    program, you'll see the same output. The issue may be that the driver
    is submitting what it expects is it's local character set, and the
    DBMS is saying that the cheracter set is not installed in the DBMS.
    You should ask this in the sybase public newsgroups. The workaround may
    be as simple as having your DBA install the charset the driver wants.

    Folks,
    I see the following warning in the weblogic jdbc.log every time
    a database pool connection is made. This is not causing any
    problem but it is very annoying. How do we stop this. Is there
    any sybase setting that needs to be fixed. Any help is
    appreciated.

  • Getting Pooled Connection with username and password

    hi,
    I am facing problems in getting pooled connections to MYSQL
    database.I am using Tomcat server.
    I tried the example given in Tomcat doc "JNDI how to", it
    works fine with one set of username and password which is
    given in server.xml. Now can anybody guide me thru the steps
    to get pooled connections to the same database with multiple
    username and passwords.
    Thankyou all in advance

    Now can anybody guide me thru the steps to get pooled
    connections to the same database with multiple
    username and passwords.Nope. Can't be done -- at least not that I've seen yet.
    Database/JDBC driver vendors seem unconcerned, or don't
    care about this scenario. I ragged on Informix years
    ago for this very feature. It should would make database
    admins jobs a lot easier if they could know "who" that
    connection belonged to that is running the outrageous
    SQL query without having to divine it by way of tracing
    socket/IP connections back thru the network to some machine.
    The only way I've seen to do it is to create your own
    connection pool code that handles user/password connections.
    -- but then the problem becomes you have a collection of
    mini-pools for each user. i.e. if you have 200 users, you
    end up with 200 connection pools with a couple/few connections
    in each sub-pool. Kinda defeats the purpse.
    So, apparently, everybody just deals with the single
    "generic" user/password connection pool.

  • Need help with setting up a PPTP connection

    Hello all,
    I am having trouble setting up a PPTP connection in Mac OS X "Snow Leopard". The ISP has provided the following info:
    — Protocol: PPTP
    — Login
    — Password
    — IP Address
    — Subnet mask
    — Default Gateway
    — IP Address of the VPN Server
    I am using the Airport Express as rounter, so here's what I entered in the Airport Utility on the Internet tab:
    Connection: Ethernet
    IP Address (as provided)
    Subnet mask (as provided)
    Router address (from Default Gateway)
    Then I went to Connections, and created a new PPTP connection, setting the properties of the latter as follows:
    VPN Server (as provided)
    Account name (from Login)
    Authenrification->Password (from Password)
    and chose "Send all traffic over VPN connection".
    The Airport is reported to have connected successfully, but the specified VPN Serverd does not ping, and when I try to connect via PPTP, an error is displayed saying that the PPTP-VPN server did not respond. Playing with different Encryption types did not help.
    This same connection, when set up on a Windows machine, works well so I think I must have goofed with the Mac OS X settings. Could you help me find out what I could have done wrong?
    Thanks in advance,
    Anton

    Pete Corelio:
    {quote}You do have more network devices, at least a dsl or cable modem and maybe a switch connected to it. Are your PC and the AX connected to the same modem/switch?{quote}
    No. There's only the Ethernet cable leading to some central (building-wide, or even wider) device. It was routed to my friend's apartment by the ISP people.
    {quote}It's a bit uncommon to manually set the IP address within the TCP/IP section of the VPN network settings like you did. That's usually set to automatically get an IP via PPP... Please try a quick test using PPP instead.{quote}
    Having the AX using DHCP and VPN using PPP makes part of the ISP settings unnecessary... Hmmm. Anyway, I did try PPP in VPN connection settings, to no avail. Alas.
    {quote}It's also suspicious that you cannot open a connection to port 1723 with the telnet command. Are you sure the VPN type is PPTP and not LT2P over ipsec?{quote}
    Yes, I am sure. The ISP's support confirmed it over the phone. Also they said they hadn't been able to set up any Mac with their network, but I am loth to believe the latter statement. And I clearly remember it was PPTP (not LT2P) in the Windows settings.
    {quote}lease verify the IP settings on your PC...{quote}
    OK, will do this Wednesday. Also I'll take a closer look at the VPN settings.
    {quote}So your PC is on the same network and the VPN works from there? Is the PC using 3rd party VPN software or the built-in software?{quote}
    No other clients, just a VPN connection configured using Windows built-in tools.
    Anton
    EDIT:
    {quote}'m assuming the Mac gets an IP in the 10.x range and gets online OK right? {quote}
    The AX is saying it's connected but there's no internet. This ISP is providing access to the internet through that VPN. The same AX works well with my MacBook at home, although I am using PPPoE.

  • OMBPLUS - Setting properties of objects in Collection.

    Hi All,
    I am trying to set the Deployable property of objects in a collection in order to automate our deployment process. Basically, we use collections for our releases, and I want to set the property as above before running our deployment script which looks for objects that are marked as deployable.
    see below my attempt at this:
    #logging file
    set OMBLOG C:\\CORT_BAUV_13\\OMB\\omblog.txt
    set fParams [open Params.lst r]
    gets $fParams OwbUsername
    gets $fParams OwbPasswd
    gets $fParams Hostname
    gets $fParams Port
    gets $fParams Database
    gets $fParams StgUsername
    gets $fParams OdsUsername
    gets $fParams ClnUsername
    gets $fParams DwhCrtUsername
    gets $fParams DwhLdwUsername
    gets $fParams CtlUsername
    gets $fParams DwhAdmUsername
    gets $fParams Passwd
    gets $fParams resetAll
    gets $fParams Collection
    close $fParams
    #REPOSITORY CONNECTION
    set reposConnection $OwbUsername/$OwbPasswd@$Hostname:$Port:$Database
    #CONSTANTS
    set projectName MI_HEAD
    puts "Connecting to: $reposConnection"
    OMBCONNECT $reposConnection
    puts "Connected to Repository..."
    OMBCC '/$projectName/'
    OMBCONNECT CONTROL_CENTER
    set dtaList [OMBRETRIEVE COLLECTION '$Collection' GET DATA_AUDITOR REFERENCES   ]
    puts "Resetting Data Auditors $dtaList"
    foreach dtaName $dtaList {
    OMBALTER DATA_AUDITOR '$dtaName' SET PROPERTIES (DEPLOYABLE) VALUES (1)
    OMBCOMMIT
    OMBDISC
    Currrently, I get this error:
    OMB01004: Current context is not an Oracle module context.
    Any ideas?

    thanks david...
    the main problem is getting the module to switch context to..
    the result of the puts "Resetting Data Auditors $dtaList" is as follows:
    Resetting Data Auditors /MI_HEAD/TGT_STAGE/VALID_BUSINESS_AREA_AUDIT
    /MI_HEAD/TGT_STAGE/VALID_DRAWDOWN_AUDIT /MI_HEAD/TGT_STAGE_LD/VALID_LD_CONNECTION_AUDIT
    the result above does show the module of each object but how do i dynamically change context to each module
    i.e
    foreach dtaName $dtaList {
    OMBCC $dtaName
    OMBALTER DATA_AUDITOR '$dtaName' SET PROPERTIES (DEPLOYABLE) VALUES (1)
    i tried OMBCC$dtaName
    OMBCC '..'
    to get into the context of the module that holds the object, but that still did not work...
    thanks,
    Olu

  • Setting properties

    hi,
    is it possible to set properties on one java class and then acess them from another?
    setting on one
    <jsp:useBean id="employee" class="com.Database.Employee scope="page"/>
                                           <jsp:setProperty name="employee" property="forename" value="Helen"/>
                                           <jsp:setProperty name="employee" property="surname" value="McArthur"/>
                                  </jsp:useBean>setting on another:
         <jsp:useBean id="empskill" class="com.Database.EmployeeSkill" scope="page">
             <jsp:setProperty name="empskill" property="sname" value="Java"/>
         </jsp:useBean>
         so that i may call this?:
