Setting up object cache.

Hi Team,
we are scaling a new SharePoint farm and have 16GB servers with following configuration.
SP2013
SQL 2012
Window  Server with 2008 R2 enterprise
3 WFE(internal)
3 APP Server
2 WFE(External)
RAM 16GB
Publishing template site
65000 User includes around 5000-8000 concurrent users
We have configured Super Reader and Super User and have enabled BLOB cache in our farms. Since we are scaling the environment we want to know the best figures for stting up object cache.
current object cache Configuration
<ObjectCache maxSize="100" />
Thanks Help appreciated
Thanks Ba$va

How are you measuring the performance? How are you simulating (or actually placing) a load on the infrastructure?
As with most things performance-related there isn't a specific setting that is the best. It all depends on your specific use. Your specific use can also change over time depending on the volume of users and the types of content you are publishing.
From Designing and Developing High-Performance SharePoint Server 2007 Publishing Sites (It's written for SharePoint 2007 but the object cache functionality remains
the same in 2010):
The configuration of the output cache for each site collection enables administrators to set how much memory the object cache
can use. Use the ASP.NET 2.0 performance counter Cache Hit Ratio to determine whether more memory should be allocated to the object cache. If the hit ratio is below 90 percent, which means less than 90 percent of the time objects are not found in cache and
the server has to go to the database to retrieve the content, consider increasing the amount of memory allocated to the object cache.
I would use this guidance as a starting point. Monitor the ASP.NET Output Cache Hit Ratio performance counter and increase the memory allocated if this counter is regularly reporting below 90%. This means the output cache is used to retrieve content less than
90% of the time, or to put it another way, SharePoint is going to the content database for retrieving more than 10% of the content.

  • Setting the property "Cache Level" of the pcd object to "None".

    Hi all
    I have an EP 6.0 on NW04 SPS 17. I need to solve a problem and found note 960975. My question is, how could we change the setting the property "Cache Level" of the pcd object to "None"? Where should I go? Is it on the NWA, Visual Admin, Configtool or somewhere else?
    Many thanks before.

    Hi Agoes,
    By using the tool Support Desk -> Portal Content Directory -> PCD Administration you can do this. Please note that this tool should only be used in debugging situations.
    There is a new section "Release a Unit from the cache cluster wide" in this tool. With this new functionality, you can remove an object from the cache on all nodes in the cluster. If the object is still in use, it will be reread immediately from the database
    Releasing the entire PCD cache can severely affect performance. Hence, if there are inconsistencies suspected with a single object, e.g. a role or an iview, the new section "Release a Unit from the cache cluster wide" can be used to evict the given object from the cache on all nodes in the cluster.

  • How to get first row from View Object cache.

    hi,
    I am using Jdeveloper 11.1.1.6
    can we get first row from View Object cache??
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi Frank,
    Thanks for reply!!
    My case is:
    I have a Query based ViewObject.
    One of the field is LOV and remaining fields are in ADF table. the LOV field is out side ADF table when i insert first record in ADF table and i choose LOV  filed the value is selected.
    when i create second row LOV value got refreshed because both are in same VO.
    I need to get the LOV value of first row and set same value to second Row.

  • Lifetime of Object in the Object Cache on selects

    On inserting an object (corresponding to user-defined SQL type), I can use a stack-allocated struct for the object and its indicator structure, and pass these addresses to OCIBindObject.
    But on selecting an object (by value, not ref), the doc says one must let the OCI runtime allocate the object struct and its indicator struct in the Object Cache, and call OCIObjectFree when done with the object. But it's unclear whether one needs to free the object for each row of the result set processed, or only once all rows have been processed.
    By looking at the cache-allocated addresses of the object/indicator structs, it looks like the same "instance" in the cache is re-used for every row (addresses remain the same for every row). This tends to indicate the same object is reused, as opposed to a new one being allocated. I added a single OCIObjectFree after processing all rows, and things look OK... (read no crash, no complain/error from OCI).
    But I feel a little uneasy about this, because unlike in my case, when the object has secondary allocations associated to it (because the type contains strings, collections, or other objects members), if somehow I need to OCIObjectFree for each row, and I don't, then I'm leaking all the secondary storage from previous instances of the object.
    Can someone please shed some light on the subject? I find the OCI doc often a little sketchy on these very important lifetime issues. I'd appreciate some advice from someone with Object-Relational aspects of OCI.

    when I have to select objects by value :
    * I let oci allocate objects in the object fetch arrayI don't think we have a choice here in fact. At least the way I interpret the doc.
    * I have different addresses for every entry in the array after the fetchBut even an array fetch is done is a loop. You fetch 10 rows at a time, and you get say 25, so you have 3 iterations / fetches.
    Of course the 10 object entries of a given fetch are different, but is the address of the 6th object the same in the first, second, and third fetch?
    * I call OCIObjectFree() for every entry of the
    array.If I have retreived object based attributes
    from the object, i call OCIObjectFree() on the
    object attributes recursively.To made it easier to understand my question, please find below the pseudo-code of what I'm doing (all error checking and most boiler plate arguments OCI requires are omitted, to concentrate on the control flow and the calls made)
    create type point_typ as object (
      x binary_float, y binary_float, z binary_float
    create table point_typ_tab (
      id number, point point_typ
    struct point_typ { // C-struct matching SQL User Type
        float x, y, z;
    struct point_ind { // indicator structure for point_typ
        OCIInd self, x, y, z;
    static void select_objects() {
        Environment env(OCI_OBJECT);
        env.connect(zusername, zpassword, zdatabase);
        OCIHandleAlloc(OCI_HTYPE_STMT);
        OCIStmtPrepare("SELECT id, point FROM point_typ_tab");
        ub4 id = 0; OCIDefine* define_id = 0;
        OCIDefineByPos(&define_id, 1, &id, sizeof(id), SQLT_UIN);
        OCIDefine* define_pt = 0;
        OCIDefineByPos(&define_pt, 2, 0, sizeof(point_typ), SQLT_NTY)
        OCIType* point_typ_tdo = 0;
        OCITypeByName("POINT_TYP", OCI_DURATION_SESSION,
            OCI_TYPEGET_ALL, &point_typ_tdo);
        point_typ* p_pt = 0;     ub4 pt_size = 0;
        point_ind* p_pt_ind = 0; ub4 pt_ind_size = (ub4)sizeof(point_ind);
        OCIDefineObject(define_pt, point_typ_tdo,
            (void**)&p_pt, &pt_size, (void**)&p_pt_ind, &pt_ind_size);
        sword rc = OCIStmtExecute(0/*row*/);
        while (OCIStmtFetch2((ub4)1/*row*/, OCI_FETCH_NEXT) has data) {
            if (p_pt_ind->self == OCI_IND_NOTNULL) {
                // Use p_pt. Value of p_pt same for all iteration
        OCIObjectFree(p_pt);
        OCIHandleFree(OCI_HTYPE_STMT);
    }As you can see, I do a single OCIObjectFree after the loop, and as mentioned previously, p_pt's value (a point_typ address) remains identical during the iteration, but the values in that memory chunk do change to reflect the various point instances (so each point instance overlays the previous one).
    Are you saying I should be calling OCIObjectFree(p_pt); inside the loop itself?
    And if so, should I call OCIObjectFree(p_pt); even if the indicator tells me the point is atomically null?
    That what I do in OCILIB, and it doesn't seem to leak.Reading your post, I'm unsure you free of points in the array after the loop, or inside the loop. I hope the pseudo-code I posted above help to clarify my question.
    BTW, OCCI is just a wrapper around OCI. Because OCCI
    first releases were buggy (it's getting better) and
    just few compilers (and compilers versions) are
    supported, OCI remains a portable and workable
    solution for dealing with Oracle ObjectsAs I wrote in a separate reply in this thread, I also agree OCI is the way to go, for various reasons.
    Thanks for the post. I'd appreciate if you could confirm or not whether what I'm doing is consistent with what you are doing in OCILIB, now that I'm hopefully made my question clearer.
    Thanks, • Proxy.cfg [Object Cache] section

    In the [Object Cache] section of Proxy.cfg I have questions on two parameters:
    cut thru no CLH length - The default is 51200 (Proxy Console #63) but Craig's Proxy.cfg sets it to 0. TID 10063926 talks about this but I wonder if this problem isn't fixed in NBM 3.9 SP1 and therefore doesn't need to be set to 0 now? Other TID's (10075563, 10069305 for instance) talk about setting it to 5120. What should be the correct setting for 3.9 SP1?
    disk management factor - the default is 400 (Proxy Console #63) but Craig's Proxy.cfg sets it to 4000. Can someone tell me what this does and why it should be set to 4000 instead of 400?
    thanks,

    OK - this is not something that is in proxy.cfg at all. These are
    settings in NWADMN32/iManager. For instance, the max hot nodes @ 7000
    is a default value that is too low for busy servers. (Recommended is
    50000). This sounds like you have not configured the server per the
    proxy tuning tid, or my BMgr books.

    Find the parameters in NWADMN32 (or iMan in BM 3.9) and check the help
    there. Also see the proxy tuning tid.

    It seems odd at the moment - I've not really looked into it. I know
    that when the proxy.cfg setting came out, it fixed a lot of problem
    sites at the time. I've left it at the setting which worked for the
    time.

    Got it, Craig. I did forget to update some of the settings for the Proxy Cache in iManager. I'll leave the cut thru no CLH length at 0 for now.

  • Object caching

    Hello,
    Is there any way to keep an object in Toplink's cache indefinitely ? I have some objects that have to be in cache all the time, but I can't use a FullIdentityMap cache to store all objects since it will clog the memory.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    A cache invalidation policy in which no objects will expire. The only way for objects to become invalid in the cache is for them to be explicitly set to invalid through method calls on the IdentityMapAccessor. This is the default cache invalidation policy.
    A QueryResultsCache policy dicates how a query's results will be cached. It allows an invalidation policy and a maximum number of results to be set.
    QueryResultsCachePolicy.setMaximumCachedResults(int maximumResultSets)
    Set the maximum cached results. This defines the number of query result sets that will be cached. The LRU query results will be discarded when the max size is reached.
    Hope this helps.

    Vinay

  • Error ACLContainer: 65315 does NOT EXIST in  the Object Cache for parentID:

    Expert,
    I did the following steps to upgrade the OWB repository from 10g to 11g
    • Created a dummy workspace in the 11.2 repository
    • Created users in the destination environment
    • Run Repository Assistant against the 11.1 source database
    • Then selected *“Export entire repository to a file”* and selected the MDL(10g) to import
    After 99% of completing I have got the below error
    Error ACLContainer: 65315 does NOT EXIST in  the Object Cache for parentID: 65314
    Please let me know the solution.
    Thanks,
    Balaa...

    Hi I had the same error and worked on it for almost a week with no success but there is few work around for this try it it might work for you.
    Step 1>Run a health check on OWB 10.2 enviroment(make sure you clone your OWB 10.2 enviroment and then do this healthcheck ,these checks are tricky )
    refer
    Note 559542.1 Health Check of the Oracle Warehouse Builder 10.2 Metadata Repository
    This will give you info about your missing ACL
    Step 2> download these two scripts fixLostACLContainer.sql ,fixAllACLContainers.sql
    please refer :
    Note 559542.1 Health Check of the Oracle Warehouse Builder 10.2 Metadata Repository
    OWB 10.2 - Internal ERROR: Can not find the ACL container for object (Doc ID 460411.1)
    Note 754763.1 Repository Cleanup Script for OWB 10.2 and OWB 11.1
    Note 460411.1 Opening Map Returns Cannot find ACL Containter for Object
    Note 1165068.1 Internal Error: Can Not Find The ACL Containter For for object:CMPPhysical Object
    It might resolve this ACL issue but it did not work for me.
    If none of these work then
    Perform export from design center of OWB 10.2 and import through design center of OWB 11.2.(ONLY OPTION)
    It worked for me.

  • How to set up automatic cache purge

    I am using the event polling table for setting up automatic cache purging.
    I have created a table 'event polling table' in the database with the following fields:
    CATALOGNAME
    DATABASENAME
    OTHER
    SCHEMANAME
    TABLENAME
    UPDATETIME
    UPDATETYPE
    LOAD_ID
    with TABLENAME, UPDATETIME, UPDATETYPE as non-nullable fields.
    Then I have imported the table to the physical layer of the rpd, set up 'Oracle BI Event tables' in the Utilities as this table and set up a polling frequency of 15min.
    I have created a report with 2 columns (DeptID, Saleamt) from 2 tables (Department, Sales) respectively. Both these tables were made 'cacheable' in the physical layer with cache never expires. Now the saved report is ran by logging in once again. So a cache entry is registered. My NQSCONFIG file enables cache.
    I have added these 2 tables to the event polling table after the cache entry was registered. Technically after 15min, this cache should be purged automatically as the request created was from these 2 tables. But that does not happen. Even after half hr when I log in and run this report a cachehit occurs as cache still persists. My cache folder is the C:\OracleBIData\cache. I also check entries in the Repository (Manage ->cache).
    Please let me know where am I making a mistake.
    My goal is to get cache purged automatically every time there's an entry in the EPT. (To test when I create an entry in the EPT, I give the tablename and updatetype (=1), the updatetime is obtained automatically as sysdate.
    Thanks
    ===================================================
    For reference I have copied an earlier posting here:
    ===================================================
    lets look at all your questions one by one
    As the event polling table gets a row added for each table whose data is updated at the end of each ETL run, when exactly does the BI server purges cache related to that table - As soon as the polling happens and it finds a new record in your table
    Lets say I set up a polling frequency (in Tools -> Utilities -> Oracle BI Event Tables) to every 60 minutes. At the end of every 60 minutes does the BI server restart by itself or does the polling take place without restart. - Polling takes place only when the server is up (there is no need to restart)
    At the end of every 60 minutes does the BI server poll the event polling table whether or not any new rows are added to it? -(Yes )
    What exactly happens when a new record is added to the event polling table in the database. - (The cache is purged )
    If at the end of the ETL run data in 3 tables has changed, would 3 records be added to the event polling table in the database. - (yes , after the polling happens)
    Let me know if you have more questions ...
    Another way you can set it up is to create a batch file which would purge a table as its updated (use a procedure to capture the tables which have a value of 1 for update_type or use triggers to populate a table with these table names ) ...once purged you can set up your cache by using ibots (use javascripts) .
    =============================================================================

    I seem to have all the steps running except #3 - which is clearing the cache!

  • 1.5 How to globally set the System Cache location

    FROM ANOTHER USER ON ANOTHER BOARD:
    This one did not get answered completely.
    ************************* Question:
    Hello,
    I want to deploy JWS on a client PC with Microsoft XP OS. This client have multiple users. JWS put a file deployment.properties in the directory "documents and setting" for the current user.
    How can I create a uniquely file deployment.properties for all users of this client (new and existing profiles) ?
    Create a directory "documents and setting/all users/application data/sun/java/deployment/" with the file deployment.properties don't work.
    Create a directory "documents and setting/default user/application data/sun/java/deployment/" with the file deployment.properties is working but is not good for the existing users. This is good uniquely for new users.
    is there a solution ?
    King regards,
    funchung
    ************************* ANSWER:
    For windows, the system config file is at:
    {Windows Directory}\Sun\Java\Deployment\
    The value of the {Windows Directory} is determined by using the Win32 API GetWindowsDirectory.
    So for example, on XP, the system config file is:
    c:\WINDOWS\Sun\Java\Deployment\deployment.properties
    The settings in this system config file will be used by all users on the system.
    ***************************** HIS REPLY
    I've tried this and it doesn't seem to work.
    I've also tried createing a deployment.config file as per the http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/deployment/deployment-guide/properties.html article and this doesn't work for me.
    Has anyone done this successfully??
    ******************************** MY REPLY:
    This is true.
    I can get the system install to work if I add the parameter:
    deployment.system.cachedir=C\:\\testcache
    to the deployment.properties file found under:
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment
    but it will NOT work by adding it to the:
    C:\WINDOWS\Sun\Java\Deployment
    directory. It just creates a new default one in the user's folder.
    What am I doing wrong?
    If there is not a way to globally set the System Cache location, then this isn't much better than the user cache for being able to "install" the software once on the PC and let any user that signs in access that application.
    We had high hopes for this, since this functionality was taken away from us once the java cache started being stored in the user's folders.
    More details:
    I just tried setting the mandatory=true setting and it tells me that it is not allowed to start because it can't find the
    deployment.properties in the same folder (full path is displayed) but I know it is there, because it is the same folder. I even double checked the spelling.
    Maybe there is a bug in the way it finds that properties file, or maybe I need to include something in that file that I didn't find in documentation?
    All it has in it is the one line:
    deployment.system.cachedir=C\:\\testcache
    Can anybody help shed light on this?
    It seems to be a bug that it can't find the deployment.properties file in the 'system' folder.

    I will connect to server and monitor the remote server JVM , There is a object of User, I want to change its value by the Java Debugger Interface by client.
    so how to set its value by the client, and I can not got the User bean at client.
    I know the basic type filed value changed as follows:
    Value newValue = vmMachine.mirrorOf("change var value");// this field is a string.
    stackFrame.thisObject().setValue(field, newValue);
    But a Object , how can I change its value.
    Thanks Advanced.

    ObjectReference.setValue() is the method for chaining the value of an Object's field. First you need to find the specific Object you want to change, though.

  • How to set Principal object?

    Hello,
    I have two web applications. The "app1" is the one we are developing and retrieving the Principal object. The "app2" is a black box web application which we have no way to modify. We can only add parameters in web.xml. The business flow is that once the Principal object is retrieved in "app1", the "app1" calls "app2". The "app2" is looking for User_Principal object. The document says "USER_PRINCIPAL = (The user name is retrieved from a call to getUserPrincipal().getName() on the HttpServletRequest object for the current request in a servlet or JSP)". If I understand this correctly, the "app2" is going to look for "HttpServletRequest". How can the "app1" set Principal object so that "app2" can retrieve it from "HttpServletRequest"? As far as I know there is not "setUserPrincipal()" method in "HttpServletRequest". So the app1 cannot use "HttpServletRequest".
    Thanks in advance,
    Mustafa

    The UserPrinciple is set by the server after the user has been successfully authenticated. You should force the user to login to the second application using the <security-constrain> entry in web.xml. If your user has already been authenticated in your first application than make sure that you have the Realm the user is authenticated to available for both web apps.

  • Usage of Object Cache for Java in J2EE apps

    Hi,
    we are investigating on whether we can use the Object Cache for Java
    (OCS4J) for our requirements. The question we have come across is:
    What is the designated way of integration for the Object cache to fit
    into the J2EE environment? Unfortunately, although the current manuals
    group OCS4J into the "Oracle Containers for J2EE Services Guide" and the
    suggested package name for the whole thing in JSR 107 seems to be
    javax.util.jcache, there is very little documentation on how the
    designers would like J2EE programmers to use the cache from within a
    J2EE app and all examples given are not from within a J2EE environment.
    We are in particular thinking about a hierarchy of several cache
    "compartments" (Region->Subregion->group) for different topics and using
    the hierarchical name of the cache (region.subregion.group) as the
    primary key for BMP Entity beans, each of them having their own
    CacheAccess object. Then we would have an API of stateless Session beans
    on top of that, which would be determining the cache "compartment", get
    the appropriate Entity Bean with the Cache Access object and then do the
    required operations on the cache.
    But then we immediately run into the question of how the mapping between
    Cache Objects and CacheAccess objects will be done etc.
    So is there anybody that can give us any hints how to use the OCS4J in
    an EJB scenario?
    Thanks in advance for any help!
    Andreas Loew
    [email protected]

    We have Java client requesting over HTTP to application server. We would like to cache some of the objects created by the servlet while serving the request. Can I use the OCS4J for caching the Java objects. Do I require any software or just copying the JAR file and importing the class would serve the purpose?
