Setting up static routing in sa520. Im stuck.

Hello,
I finally got my cisco router and all excited about it i tried to set it up. Everything went fine until i wanted a local machine to get its own IP adress that is reachable from the outside.
Basicly i used static IP setting in the wan/ip4v menu. This worked great and with the router assigning dhcp too all computers.
Now all the local computers has internet connection and they share one ip adress on the outside.
As for where im stuck. I have a xserve with 2 networkcards. It runs a FTP server which we use local but we also have customers needing to reach it from the outside. The local FTP works but im having difficulties assigning a outside IP too it. Our ISP has provided 5 different ipadresses.
I have tried to do this in 2 different ways where the second way is preferable.
first try:
Use the optional port as a second wan. give it the same settings as the first wan got but another ip-adress.
Then connect the xserves outside network card directly too that wan port and use dhcp. This did not work.
second try:
Assign a static routing from the wan2(optional port) too the local ipadress for the xserve.
Can someone elaborate on how this should be done?
Thank you.
Edit:
Later today i will try this firewall rule.
http://bildr.no/view/580301
Basicly i want to forward any connections from wan2 too 192.168.1.33 which is my server. Does that look correct?

Thank you for your quick reply.
Im using version 1.1.21.
Im actully quite sure that its a user problem rather then firmware error. It´s the first time i evern touch a Cisco router and i havn´t done that much networking.
I can show you how i did it on my xserve. Maybe you can elaborate on how i can do it the same way.
    redirect_port
            proto
            tcp
            targetIP
            192.168.1.50
            targetPortRange
            80
            aliasIP
            77.40.XXX.220
            aliasPortRange
            8888
Basicly it says push whatever trafic from ip 77.40.xxx.220 too 192.168.1.50 on the local network.
How can i do the same thing on my cisco router? It´s a NAT ip-forward rule.
Edit:
Screenshot shows what i have been trying.
I have chosen optional wan which is set to use another external IP adress but this does not work. It would be so much easier if i could just type in the external IP adress there and use the same gateway, dns as the main WAN.
Added config aswell.
Thank you.

  • Problems setting up static routing

    HI
I'm having a problem setting up static routing.  I keep getting the message "invalid static route".   I have an E1550 router and my frimware is up to date.  I have tried a few different gateway addresses ie 192.168.1.1,  127.0.0.1 and my router's address on the net, but I keep getting the same message.  Has anyone else had this problem and been able to fix it?

I think the E1550 router supports LAN to LAN routing provided that you have two local networks. If you only have a plain modem and the E1550, I believe you can't do Static routing on that type of setup. Found this link that might help: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=12a84336a124498eb5d6f0204b85191e_17589.xml&pid=80&...

  • Static Routing vs. Access Point

I need helping in setting up my media center. I have the Dlink 520 in wireless mode. I have the linksys WRT300N. And I'd like to set up a static route to my wired network's resources. This device is hardcoded with 192.168.1.X and I need a static route to the 192.168.0.X network. Is there a way to do so, so that my media server will be seen by the server on that network.  Please help..  I've looked at port forwarding and DMZ and they all have a hardcoded 192.168.1.X.  Should I just set this device up as a access point,  even though I have other wireless devices that benefit from DHCP.   Please advise.
    Thank you
    Mr V.

If you connect the WRT in gateway mode through its internet port to the dlink, you don't have to define any static route on the WRT. The LAN behind the WRT is inaccessible then unless you define port forwardings on the WRT.
If you connect the WRT in router mode through its internet port to the netgear you also don't have to define a static route on the WRT. You must define a static route for the WRT subnet on the dlink. The WRT will just work correctly as it is. You may also have to define a static route on the dlink to forward packets for the WRT subnet to the WRT instead of the netgear.
If you setup the WRT as I have suggested you don't need static routes on the WRT either because the internet port is not used and thus there is no routing on the WRT.
So, whatever you want to do I cannot see any reason in your setup why you think you would have to set a static route on the WRT. You only need routing if the packets have to go one more hop. But the WRT has only two sides and those two sides are your complete LAN. There is nothing else there...
You cannot define a static route for the traffic from inside the WRT LAN to the outside simply because this is implicitly defined with the configuration of the internet and LAN interfaces.
I don't have another suggestion. I think I have listed the major reason why it is beneficial to set up the WRT as access point, mostly because you'll only have a single LAN subnet instead of two. Two subnets complicate many things. One of those things is file sharing across the router which may be related to your problems.
I suggest you try to set it up as I have suggested and we see how it goes...

just like:sudo route -nv add -net 10.0.0.0 192.168.42.254

  • RV042 Static Routing Question

I am currently using RV042 in the two-WAN backup mode. However, I tried the redundant option and am finding it to give me more bandwidth and better performance than only one of the WANs.
My problem is that in the redundant mode, I am unable to use a few websites that I use on a regular basis. One of the sites is our internet hosted time sheet service and their site just goes crazy when I try to access it through the router set up in redundant mode. I am not even able to login to their site, and it is important for my daily work.
My question is - can I set up static routes for certain sites so that the router knows to access them through only one of my WANs? For example, if my timesheet software site is 123.123.123.123, and my prefered WAN gateway is 68.68.68.68, can I tell the router to only access this site through the given gateway, even if the router is configured to use either WAN?
I have tried static routes and it does not seem to work at all.
    For example:
    Site: 123.123.123.123
    SM: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway 68.68.68.68
When I save this and run the tracert to 123.123.123.123, it goes through the other gateway, and not the one I specified here.
    Any hints are appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Alex P.

If your using this in load balance mode, go to system management and scroll down to protocol binding.  Chances are your going to a secure site with both wans working and the site sees one connection with two ip addresses coming at it and breaks the connection.  You can do a protocol bind for all your https traffic to go out one wan for all the ip addresses in your network and this should fix the issue.  You can do this for mail and other protocols that would get messed up by the dual wan.  Hope this helps.

  • Seeking static route help

After having inserted my own router as the internet gateway router and relegated the Verizon one to be a secondary one that just communicates with the STBs I would like to know if any could explain to me how to set up static routes to be able to access it via a wired connection as I would like to turn of the wireless side of it.
Now have a double NAT'd setup as follows
ONT -> WAN Netgear subnet 192.168.0
Netgear Lan port 1 -> Wan VZ Westell subnet 192.168.1
                                                          Moca connections to STBs
Ethernet connections to exposed (Port forwarded) machines
Netgear Lan Port 2 -> Wan Dlink subnet 192.168.3
Dlink Lan port -> 1GB NIC desktop machine 192.168.3.99
From the desktop machine at 192.168.3.99 I want to be able to get to the admin pages of the VZ router at 192.168.1.1 and also to some exposed machines on the 192.168.1 subnet
I'm guessing I need static routes defined at the dlink router at 192.168.3.1 and the netgear router at 192.168.0.1
On paper this looks very simple but I cannot work out what the static routes are meant to say
Any have any hints that would help me out?

Fixed it. once I looked at the Westell logs
Finally realized that the static routes I built were fine and the problem is that I was being blocked at the firewall.
Can't put the router in the DMZ and can't port forward to the the router's lan ip address (192.168.1.1).  Allowed remote admin on the router and it works fine - would be nice if the router allowed you to choose some obscure port but I guess it's not really much of a sexurity risk as the router's wan port is inside the private network anyway.

  • Setting UP Static IP With WRT54G router

Setting a static IP shouldn't be a problem, since setting the static IP is done on the computer.  So why am I having such a problem?? Let me tell a little about my setup.
I have a DSL connection.  My DSL netopia modem uses PPPoe of course, and broadcast a DHCP connection to my WRT54G router.  3 computers are connected to this router. 1 desktop (vista) wired and 2 laptops (XP) wireless/wired. I'm attempting to create a static IP for the desktop and later for the laptops, but each time I do, I lose internet connectn nor am I able to connect to DSL modem at 192.168.1.254
Within the router I have changed the DHCP count to 5, with the starting IP as 192.168.1.1.  Linksys help advise to change IP to 192.168.2.1, but I still get the same problem when creating a static ip.
Within desktop (vista Home Premium SP1), I have changed the local area network to the following:
    IP          - 192.168.1.060
    Mac      - 255.255.255.0
    Gateway-192.168.1.1
    DNS      -192.168.1.1
Once I change the IP to above, from obtain auto, I lose the connection.
Later the laptops IP address will be changed to 192.168.070 and .080
Aren't static Ip address suppost to be outside the DHCP range?
Isn't the gateway address my router?
apoloize for the big questions, but tried to get all information within it.
     Thanks
    balltripii

Before doing this, In Windows go to run and type CMD hit enter. In the command prompt, type ipconfig /all and record your DNS server/servers if more than one. Not getting the proper DNS server information, will prevent you from going to websites like linksys.com by typing linksys.com in the address bar, instead you would have to know the IP of linksys.com to browse the page, not very user friendly and I can barely remember my phone number, let alone IP addresses of all the sites I go.
Log into your router. Leave your WAN settings alone, since that will determine your settings for the connection to the internet. Now configure your Network settings on the router. The 192.168.1.1  or 192.168.2.1 for the ip and leave the subnet mask 255.255.255.0 as is. Disable DHCP on the router. DHCP is a service that the router will use to issue out IP addresses automatically. This is the complete opposite of what you are trying to do with a static connection. Once these settings have been changed, you will need to configure the connection on the PC and any other connecting device to the router via wired or wireless since DHCP is now disabled. If not, you will just be stuck all day while the network adapter trys to get a network address and DHCP has a heart attack.
Configure your network adapters. Assign the IP address. If you used 192.168.1.1 then the IP will need to be 192.168.1.2 through 192.168.1.254 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 or if you used 192.168.2.1 the IP will need to be 192.168.2.2 through 192.168.2.254 with subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and enter the DNS server information as recorded from earlier. Default gateway will be whatever the IP address of the router you configured. 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 etc etc etc.
Just remember to not duplicate any IP address when configuring other devices and all should work well.
This worked fine for me earlier today when I needed a static connection.

  • OSPF down-bit set for a route originated as static?

If remote PE is redistributing a static route to VRF, local PE will get this route via BGP. Now suppose this local PE and CE is running OSPF and BGP VPNv4 route is redistributed to OSPF, will this PE set down-bit for type 5 LSAs advertised to CE?
I am bit confused by RFC-4576, it states that "When a type 3, 5, or 7 LSA is sent from a PE to a CE, the DN bit MUST be set", my understanding is that only if the route is originated from OSPF (at remote PE) then PE will set down-bit in LSAs advertised to CE.

    Niranjan,
IOS also set the tag to the BGP ASN on external routes as a loop avoidance mechanism as described in RFC 4577, section 4.2.5.2. According to the same RFC, this method has to be supported by default by any compliant implementation for backward compatibility purposes.

  • Set a static IP via Router?

Is it possible to set a static IP via my AirPort Extreme router? I am creating a World of Warcraft server and need a static IP address. Please give me directions if you know how to do this. Thanks.

You would either configure a static IP address for the WOW server at the server itself or use the AirPort Utility to reserve a DHCP-provided IP address to the server instead.

  • Default static route and Null 0

    Hi Everyone,
Need to clear some doubts  for below setup
Switch 3550A is connected to Internet Router and has OSPF nei relationship with it.
    3550A#                      sh run int fa0/11
    Building configuration...
    Current configuration : 272 bytes

Gateway of last resort is 192.168.5.3 to network 0.0.0.0

    3550A#
    All is working fine.
For testing  purposes i config below static route on 3550A
    ip default-network 192.168.1.0

Now i can not ping to internet as below
    3550A#ping 4.2.2.2
    Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 4.2.2.2, timeout is 2 seconds:
Success rate is 0 percent (0/5)
When we ping from Switch then source IP is always the Outside interface IP right?
So in this case Switch is using which IP as source?
Ping to internet is not working as default network is set to 192.168.1.0 and all request goes to this IP and then it goes to
    Null interface right?
Extended ping works fine as below
    3550A#ping
    Protocol [ip]:
    Target IP address: 4.2.2.2
    Repeat count [5]:
    Datagram size [100]:

    Validate reply data? [no]:

    Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 4.2.2.2, timeout is 2 seconds:
Packet sent with a source address of 192.168.5.2
    Success rate is 100 percent (5/5), round-trip min/avg/max = 76/79/80 ms
Second thing to confirm is this ping works because 192.168.5.2 is directly connected to Internet Router interface?
    Regards
    MAhesh

    Hi Mahesh,
When we ping from Switch then source IP is always the Outside interface IP right?
That is correct.  By default it is always the outgoing interface on the device unless you specify it differently.
Ping to internet is not working as default network is set to 192.168.1.0 and all request goes to this IP and then it goes to
    Null interface right?
That is correct. Null0 can't be used as next-hop.
Second thing to confirm is this ping works because 192.168.5.2 is directly connected to Internet Router interface?
No, that is because 192.168.5.0/30 is NATed. Remember 192.168.x.x address is a private segment and cannot access the Internet unless NAT is used.

  • How to set a static IP address for deskjet 6940dt

I have two HP laptops, both have WIN7, that keep losing the IP address for my 6940dt printer, each time power goes out to router.  I have an desktop PC connected to a NetGear router and RCA modem connected to Comcast cable internet.  I also have another desktop that connects wirelessly through the router....but this desktop never loses the printer IP address and I can't figure out why it doesn't and my laptops do.
I have had a fellow at the senior center computer club tell me that I need to set a Static IP address to make the laptops connect .  I don't know how to do this and I would need someone to explain it in a language that I can understand, like real basic.  I have searched the internet but the things I have found have been very complicated to understand.

Ooops, sorry, I forgot that yours is a wired-only network printer.
You are on the right track - just go to where you were and follow my directions - it all works the same with wired as it does wireless.

  • How to set the default route on a RVS4000 to point to a gateway in the LAN

    Hi
The dialog in the RVS4000 for static routes does not allow to set the default route to point to a gateway in the LAN. Clearly this is either a bug or a feature of the web-interface and not a restriction of the box, which runs some kind of linux. So my question is there a way around this problem rather then defining routes to n-class A networks to cover the internet? Like a terminal access to set the default route?
    Thanks and cheers
    Frank

    Hi David
Thanks for your reply. I did already the first part and it seems that I presumed wrongly that the RVS4000 can be used as a layer 3 switch, instead it is only a 1-port gateway. Not that there is a technical limitation from the hardware or the OS of the box. It does layer 3 routing e.g. for its VLAN's. The only point to stop it from having the capability which I expect from something called router is to set its default route to the right gateway independant which port might be connected. The reason why I want a LAN port pointing to the gateway and do not use the WAN port without firewall is of course the VLAN capability of the LAN ports. The idea of the RVS is to bundle two nets, including the one where the gateway is on, and send it to a WAP4410N box, which nicely makes them wireless with different SSID's. Actually I have two ports connetced to the core network, if I am forced to have only the WAN port connected to the core, due to this artificial limitation, I would have to reconfigure a bit. Therefore I try to find an easier solution setting the route by "hand".
    Cheers Frank

  • IP SLA, Tunnels, and static routes

Here's the scenario:  1 router will have a primary and secondary ISP connection.  I set up an SLA to track connectivity on the primary connection.  Here are the static routes:
    ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 Tunnel55 track 10
    ip route 12.54.X.X 255.255.255.240 GigabitEthernet0/0 track 10
    ip route 12.54.X.Y 255.255.255.255 X.15.115.X track 10
    ip route 192.168.32.0 255.255.240.0 Tunnel55 track 10
    ip route 192.168.48.0 255.255.252.0 Tunnel55 track 10
    ip route 192.168.56.0 255.255.255.0 Tunnel55 track 10
    ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 Tunnel56 254
    ip route 12.54.X.X 255.255.255.240 GigabitEthernet0/1 254
    ip route 12.54.X.Y 255.255.255.255 X.15.81.X 254
    ip route 192.168.32.0 255.255.240.0 Tunnel56 254
    ip route 192.168.48.0 255.255.252.0 Tunnel56 254
    ip route 192.168.56.0 255.255.255.0 Tunnel56 254
So I shut down the port (gi0/0) belonging to the primary port.  At this point, it seemed like it worked fine.  The routes shifted over to the backup routes.  However, when I re-enabled the port, only two of the routes switched back. The routes pointing to Tunnels stayed on the secondary tunnel. When I browsed my static routes, I saw this:
Gateway of last resort is 0.0.0.0 to network 0.0.0.0
    S*    0.0.0.0/0 is directly connected, Tunnel56
12.0.0.0/8 is variably subnetted, 2 subnets, 2 masks
    S        12.x.x.16/28 is directly connected, GigabitEthernet0/0
    S        12.x.y.20/32 [1/0] via x.15.115.x
    S     192.168.32.0/20 is directly connected, Tunnel56
    S     192.168.48.0/22 is directly connected, Tunnel56
    S     192.168.56.0/24 is directly connected, Tunnel56
Is there something special I need to do for Tunnels to allow the Tunnel routes to switch back automatically?

    Hello Ken,
I can see you are sending the probe packets to the same object ( using the track ID 10 )
After you bring the interface tunnel up, can you confirm if you can send traffic to that object?
    Regards,
    Julio

  • Cannot add static routes wrt350n

Router has latest firmware and was just set to default values. I cannot add a static route, says "static route invalid" no matter what address I input (keeping it simple, trying 192.168.1.XXX)
I have never had this problem with any other router and I'm thinking it's broken. Thought I'd ask here to make sure I wasn't missing a setting before I throw this thing out the window.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks, Nick.

Thanks for the help, it is appreciated...
I would like to use a static IP address for my LAN multimedia server, MythTV reccommends a static address for the backend server. I have also always used Static IP addresses for my LAN.
I am a little confused, and my networking is very rusty so please bear with me. Perhaps I have not provided enough information, because I do not fully understand your response. I don't understand how subnetting is relevant.
My network is a simple home network, with one router separating my LAN from the cloud. I have one LAN, no subnetting, 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0.
Every home router I have used before I have set up the LAN portion like this... And it has always worked in the past...
    gateway: 192.168.1.1/24.
static routes 192.168.1.(2-5)/24 for my stationary hosts.
dhcp range 192.168.1.(10-15)/24 for laptops and guests.
    In response:
    1) Yes it is LAN traffic, but the hosts still need addresses, right? Not sure what you're getting at here.
    2) Not sure what you mean... example host 192.168.1.20/24, and the router 192.168.1.1/24are both within the 192.168.1.0/24 network, right? So requests from the cloud are broadcast to all in my LAN, right? How is this relevant?
    3) I thought the gateway (on my only router) has to be part of the LAN addressing. By Linksys/Cisco default, the router LAN side gateway is 192.168.1.1/24 and it sends out dhcp addresses to 192.168.1.(100-149)/24.
Am I severly confused or are we just on the wrong page?
