SG series switch smart port macro issues

Hi there,
There seems to be a problem with some switches that it doesn't allow us to change the untagged VLAN in the smartport macro.
This causes a problem: if we change it manually when we apply the smartport it works fine but if the switch reboots the smartport is reapplied with the VLAN set in the macro, this puts the port onto the worng VLAN which is not good.
Please help.

Hello Gerrard,
This is actually a currently known issue.  When you try to update the native VLAN on a smartport macro it looks like it has taken effect, but never really gets updated.  I have confirmed the same issue on a device here in the lab.
Give us a call at 1.866.606.1866 and we can create a support case for you and try to get that issue resovled.
Thank you for choosing Cisco,

  • Series 200 Smart Switch not communicating, DHCP blocked

I have a small, simple small business network.  There are 2 switches - an 8-port switch connected to my main Windows server (which is the DHCP provider for the network), and a 24-port switch which is plugged into the 8-port switch.
I replaced these switches (Dell unmanaged switches) with the Cisco 200 series smart switches (the 8-port and 26-port models).  When I plug the 26-port switch into the 8-port switch, it is unable to get its DHCP address from the Windows server.  Also, any device plugged into the 26-port switch cannot communicate with any other device, and all of the ethernet port lights flash at the same time at the same frequency - quite a light show!
If I plug the Windows server DIRECTLY into the 26-port switch it receives a DHCP address.
I have tried a 2nd Cisco 26-port swtich and it does the same thing, so I assume it is not a hardware issue.
What is the solution to this problem?

    Louis,
Try this, go into the first 200 series switch that is connected to the server and go to the spanning tree tab.
Under the spanning tree tab properties, set the bridge priority to 0.  This makes this switch the spanning tree root.
Try this and see if the second switch passes traffic and receives and ip address.

  • Port Security MIB on SF, SG series switches

I need to setup some parameters related to port security features on my SG, SF series switches via SNMP. I've found that it is possible with port security MIB (1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.315). I found out my devices has support of this MIB downloading archive with MIBs from cisco site. But when I try to read some parameters from this MIB via SNMP, for example "cps if port security status" (1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.315.1.2.1.1.2) device answers with: "No Such Object available on this agent at this OID". But it is possible to do with web-interface in Security->Port Security section
How is it possible to read/write such type of parameters ?

The OID you mentioned cpsIfPortSecurityStatus has Read-Only permissions and hence you cannot set anything.
You can only poll this object to know the operational status of the port security feature on an interface, which will result from one of the three status :
    1 : secureup
    2 : securedown
    3 : shutdown
For more details check OID Translation.
You can only set values which has Read-Write permissions, like cpsIfPortSecurityEnable, using which you can enable port security on an interface.
Tell us what you want to achieve using SNMP Set operation?
Also, I am not sure if these MIB features are completely implemented on 29xx/35xx/37xx devices.
But are present in 45xx and 65xx series switches.

  • Advanced Auto Smart Ports 2960S IOS Version 15.0(2)SE2

    Hello again
After several days on the lab I have got a Smart Install and Automatic Smart Ports Zero touch configuration almost ready to deploy on our network. I am just having a last issue.
The configuration of my 2960S is ok and they detect other switches on the ASP ports and everything is fine.. BUT.. after about 2.40mns with no cables being unplugged the switch forgets that port gi1/0/6 fx has a Catalyst Switch connected to it and discovers one unclassified device executing CISCO_LAST_RESORT_EVENT macro which has other access ports and so on.
I have no idea what could be triggering something like this. I have ried several debug commands but nothing seems to be the trigger.

I have gone further on investigating and the switch receives information about all the devs that are on the neighbour switch and takes actions according to it.

  • Bug in autosmart port macros

    Good morning,
I'm observing what appears to be a bug in the smartport feature on our SG300 switches. We use this for our Auto Voice VLAN. We are using our own user defined macro's in place of the ip_phone and ip_phone_desktop as we use native vlans different than what these macro's allow. I believe this to be a bug.
    Reproducing steps:
    1. Define user based macro - including anti macro:
    macro name user_ip_phone
    #macro description user_ip_phone
    #macro keywords $uservoice_vlan
#macro key description: $uservoice_vlan: The voice VLAN ID
    #Default Values are
    #$uservoice_vlan = 30
    switchport mode trunk
smartport switchport trunk allowed vlan add $uservoice_vlan
    spanning-tree portfast
    macro name no_user_ip_phone
    #macro description no_user_ip_phone
    #macro keywords $uservoice_vlan
#macro key description: $uservoice_vlan: The voice VLAN ID
    #Default Values are
    #$uservoice_vlan = 30
smartport switchport trunk allowed vlan remove $uservoice_vlan
    spanning-tree portfast
    macro name user_ip_phone_desktop
    #macro description user_ip_phone_desktop
    #macro keywords $uservoice_vlan
#macro key description: $uservoice_vlan: The voice VLAN ID
    #Default Values are
    #$uservoice_vlan = 30
    switchport mode trunk
smartport switchport trunk allowed vlan add $uservoice_vlan
    spanning-tree portfast
    macro name no_user_ip_phone_desktop
    #macro description no_user_ip_phone_desktop
    #macro keywords $uservoice_vlan
#macro key description: $uservoice_vlan: The voice VLAN ID
    #Default Values are
    #$uservoice_vlan = 30
smartport switchport trunk allowed vlan remove $uservoice_vlan
    spanning-tree portfast
    2. Apply these to the built in macros:
    macro auto user smartport macro ip_phone user_ip_phone $uservoice_vlan 30
    macro auto user smartport macro ip_phone_desktop user_ip_phone_desktop $uservoice_vlan 30
    3. Set an interface to the following:
    int gig1
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport trunk native vlan 10
    spanning-tree portfast
    spanning-tree bpduguard enable
    4. Apply an IP phone to the interface and it will apply the user_ip_phone macro:
    int gig1
    spanning-tree portfast
    spanning-tree bpduguard enable
switchport trunk allowed vlan add 30
    switchport trunk native vlan 10
    macro description user_ip_phone
    !next command is internal.
    macro auto smartport dynamic_type ip_phone
    5. This is normal behaviour and is what we are expecting. We also expect that when the switch reboots or the interface is changed, the anti macro no_user_ip_phone should be used.
    6. Two strange behaviours occur throughout the course of a reboot.
On firmware 1.4.XX, when the switch reboots the anti macro is performed on the interface - however, the no_ip_phone macro is used instead of the no_user_ip_phone. This removes the native vlan information which is what we do not want and we are left with:
    int gig1
    spanning-tree portfast
    spanning-tree bpduguard enable
switchport trunk allowed vlan add 30
    macro description "user_ip_phone | no_ip_phone    | user_ip_phone"
    !next command is internal.
    macro auto smartport dynamic_type ip_phone
On firmware 1.3.5X, when the switch reboots - the same occurs and the anti macro no_ip_phone is run but the config remains the same for some strange reason:
    int gig1
    spanning-tree portfast
    spanning-tree bpduguard enable
switchport trunk allowed vlan add 30
    switchport trunk native vlan 10
    macro description "user_ip_phone | no_ip_phone    | user_ip_phone"
    !next command is internal.
    macro auto smartport dynamic_type ip_phone
However on firmware 1.3.5X, I have observed on multiple occasions on different switches, the statement: "macro auto user smartport macro ip_phone user_ip_phone $uservoice_vlan 30" being removed from the config after reboot which sees the default ip_phone and no_ip_phone macro run.
    Impact
This is causing a massive impact on our environment. We've had the last few years on version 1.3.5 and the user macros have worked apart from when the switch has rebooted after being in operation for a few months, this is when the "macro auto user smartport macro ip_phone user_ip_phone $uservoice_vlan 30" gets removed and users cannot get data on their port. This has been hard to debug and investigate and seems to happen randomly.
This is why I have tried upgrade to the 1.4.XX firmware, but have discovered the behaviour is even worse and the behaviour I outlined above happens on every reboot of the switch.
We have about 20 to 25 SG300's in production, only one of which is still within it's 12 months, and I cannot troubleshoot with this switch as it's heavily used. Therefore I cannot approach Support directly with this as there are no switches to troubleshoot on - however, I do feel the above behaviour can be reproduced and I suspect there must be some sort of bug in the macro (anti-macro) application on ports following a reboot.

    Hi Tim,
I saw this problem in 1.4 while not in 1.3.5.
Now there is a solution for this issue, which is to add the trunk native vlan setting to the user defined macro so that it will finally be recovered after reboot.
no macro auto user smartport macro ip_phone_desktop
    # disassociated the user macro
    macro name u_ip_phone_desktop
    #macro keywords $u_native_vlan $u_voice_vlan
#macro key description: $u_native_vlan: The native VLAN for trunk
    #                       $u_voice_vlan: The voice VLAN ID
    #Default Values are
    #$u_native_vlan = 10
    #$u_voice_vlan = 30
    #the default mode is trunk
smartport switchport trunk allowed vlan add $u_voice_vlan
smartport switchport trunk native vlan $u_native_vlan
    no macro description
    spanning-tree portfast
    macro name no_u_ip_phone_desktop
    #macro keywords $u_voice_vlan
#macro key description: $u_voice_vlan: The voice VLAN ID
    #Default Values are
    #$u_voice_vlan = 30
smartport switchport trunk allowed vlan remove $u_voice_vlan
    no macro description
    spanning-tree portfast auto
    macro auto user smartport macro ip_phone_desktop u_ip_phone_desktop $u_native_vlan 10 $u_voice_vlan 30

  • Ask the Expert: Different Flavors and Design with vPC on Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches

Welcome to the Cisco® Support Community Ask the Expert conversation.  This is an opportunity to learn and ask questions about Cisco® NX-OS.
The biggest limitation to a classic port channel communication is that the port channel operates only between two devices. To overcome this limitation, Cisco NX-OS has a technology called virtual port channel (vPC). A pair of switches acting as a vPC peer endpoint looks like a single logical entity to port channel attached devices. The two devices that act as the logical port channel endpoint are actually two separate devices. This setup has the benefits of hardware redundancy combined with the benefits offered by a port channel, for example, loop management.
vPC technology is the main factor for success of Cisco Nexus® data center switches such as the Cisco Nexus 5000 Series, Nexus 7000 Series, and Nexus 2000 Series Switches.
This event is focused on discussing all possible types of vPC along-with best practices, failure scenarios, Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) recommendations and troubleshooting

    Hello Gustavo
Please see my responses to your questions:
Yes almost all routing protocols use Multicast to establish adjacencies. We are dealing with two different type of traffic –Control Plane and Data Plane.
Control Plane: To establish Routing adjacency, the first packet (hello) is punted to CPU. So in the case of triangle routed VPC topology as specified on the Operations Guide Link, multicast for routing adjacencies will work. The hellos packets will be exchanged across all 3 routers and adjacency will be formed over VPC links
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5000/sw/operations/n5k_L3_w_vpc_5500platform.html#wp999181
Now for Data Plane we have two types of traffic – Unicast and Multicast.
The Unicast traffic will not have any forwarding issues, but because the Layer 3 ECMP and port channel run independent hash calculations there is a possibility that when the Layer 3 ECMP chooses N5k-1 as the Layer 3 next hop for a destination address while the port channel hashing chooses the physical link toward N5k-2. In this scenario,N5k-2 receives packets from R with the N5k-1 MAC as the destination MAC.
Sending traffic over the peer-link to the correct gateway is acceptable for data forwarding, but it is suboptimal because it makes traffic cross the peer link when the traffic could be routed directly.
For that topology, Multicast Traffic might have complete traffic loss due to the fact that when a PIM router is connected to Cisco Nexus 5500 Platform switches in a vPC topology, the PIM join messages are received only by one switch. The multicast data might be received by the other switch.
The Loop avoidance works little different across Nexus 5000 and Nexus 7000.
Similarity: For both products, loop avoidance is possible due to VSL bit
The VSL bit is set in the DBUS header internal to the Nexus.
It is not something that is set in the ethernet packet that can be identified. The VSL bit is set on the port asic for the port used for the vPC peer link, so if you have Nexus A and Nexus B configured for vPC and a packet leaves Nexus A towards Nexus B, Nexus B will set the VSL bit on the ingress port ASIC. This is not something that would traverse the peer link.
This mechanism is used for loop prevention within the chassis.
The idea being that if the port came in the peer link from the vPC peer, the system makes the assumption that the vPC peer would have forwarded this packet out the vPC-enabled port-channels towards the end device, so the egress vpc interface's port-asic will filter the packet on egress.
Differences:  In Nexus 5000 when it has to do L3-to-L2 lookup for forwarding traffic, the VSL bit is cleared and so the traffic is not dropped as compared to Nexus 7000 and Nexus 3000.
It still does loop prevention but the L3-to-L2 lookup is different in Nexus 5000 and Nexus 7000.
For more details please see below presentation:
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/sites/default/files/session_14-_nexus.pdf
DCI Scenario:  If 2 pairs are of Nexus 5000 then separation of L3/L2 links is not needed.
But in most scenarios I have seen pair of Nexus 5000 with pair of Nexus 7000 over DCI or 2 pairs of Nexus 7000 over DCI. If Nexus 7000 are used then L3 and L2 links are required for sure as mentioned on above presentation link.
Let us know if you have further questions.
    Thanks,
    Vishal

  • Snmpset on SG, SF series switches

I need to set up some parameters on SG, SF series switches with snmset command from NET-Snmp tools. It is possible for me to set up some simple parameters like ifAdminStatus of the port. The command to do this looks like:
    snmpset -m ALL -v 3 -u secName -l authPriv -a sha -A secret -x des -X secret switchIP ifAdminStatus.49 i 1
But I'd like to get static addresses table. I can snmwalk it with command:
    snmpwalk -v 3 -u secName -l authPriv -a sha -A secret -x des -X secret switchIP iso.3.6.1.2.1.17.7.1.3.1.1.4
and it returns me the key->value list:
    iso.3.6.1.2.1.17.7.1.3.1.1.4.101.60.151.14.68.239.217.64 = INTEGER: 3
    iso.3.6.1.2.1.17.7.1.3.1.1.4.101.120.132.60.0.230.199.52 = INTEGER: 3 etc...
where iso.3.6.1.2.1.17.7.1.3.1.1.4 - dot1qStaticUnicastStatus, 101 - VLAN id, 60.151.14.68.239.217 - mac in decimal form, 64 - port number and 3 - status (permanent). These are the only occurence of this information in MIB list.
Is it possible to set up static addresses table with snmset?

Are you facing issue with  ONLY this OID  iso.3.6.1.2.1.17.7.1.3.1.1.4   from this MIB Q-BRIDGE ?
    Thanks-
    Afroz

  • CCA for 100 + 300 series switches?

Is it in the roadmap to provide CCA control over 300 series switches?  We have a lot of SRW2008's put in before the 8-port ESW existed...and we have PITA vlan consistency issues out there too that I think CCA would help fix.
While I understand the "don't pre-announce products", I need a level of design intent around CCA - is it a tool for configuring UC series pieces primarily and all else is secondary? Or is it the multi-device config tool for all SBCS pieces?

Nothing to do with the UC - primary concern is standalone networks.
    Real life case:
2 ESW switches in control room hooked up to SA540
    Closet switches are SRW2008's
Port no more than two devices are supposed to go now has 4, add an SRW2008 to the desk location.
Now, it turns out that there is a badly behaved device at the desk - a video player that spews all sorts of traffic when it's playing that doesn't play nice with others.  So I now need to set-up a VLAN crossing those two switches. Oh, and it turns out the customer decided to unplug an access point and plug it into that switch too which ended up causing a loop when the PC plugged into ethernet someplace else attached to the PC.
    Tasks:
Ensure that the 2 SRW2008's have proper vlan assignments to setup a port vlan for that video server.
    Issues:
Make sure you assign proper configs to both ends of each link
Make sure not to confuse one SRW2008 with another
If new vlan, make sure all other ports that need to see it can still see it.
    Applications for CCA:
    Visualize all VLANS
Document port assignments (i.e. where is the video server vs. printer on that last leg 2008)
More easily see port statistics across multiple switches
So after I did that work, I realized that the SA540 wasn't really up to being an aggregation switch too and made the ESW-540-48 into the aggregation switch which required some more changes - however CCA made it easy...
At another job, I have SA540 + AP541ns (upgraded from RVL200 + WAP54GP's) but if I had 300 series in CCA, I'd upgrade the SRW2024's and SRW2008's but without easy management tools, the labor cost will be too high to make their networks really managed.....CCA makes that layer of management cheaper.

  • 4500 Series Switches and 802.1x MAB

My organization has multiple 4500 series switches experiencing the same problem when attempting to authenticate devices via MAB.  The issue is that the "show mab interface fax/x details" shows the Client MAC in a waiting status.  The device is never sending the switch it's MAC in order to proceed with MAB authentication, so of course the port never forwards traffic.  However, if we remove authentication port-control auto the port starts forwarding and the device gains connectivity.  Below is the interface configuration command and the MAB details.  The IOS version of this current switch is 15.0(2)SG8.  Are we missing something special for a 4500 as far as configuration is concerned.

  • My trackball/mouse hangs! They work, then they don't. If I switch usb ports they work for a while.

I have a Pavilion a1657c using Windows XP.  I use a Kensington trackball and lately it has been hanging up on me. I switched to a Logitech mouse and it did the same thing. Now, I have both plugged in and if I switch usb ports one of them will work for a short period of time and then hangs. If I switch usb ports again, one of them will work for a while....I never know which one is going to work..very sporadic and it is driving me nuts. I am semi-literate with computers, but no whiz. Somebody help me of this road to nutsville..?

Hello icnhndlu, This appears to be a USB common issue, since you mention the issue occurs on different USB ports and devices.
This may be a hardware fault, but you might try uninstalling all the USB devices in the Control Panel, Device Manager. Then reboot the system and see if the operating system will detect new hardware and install the drivers for the new hardware.
The drivers are provided by Microsoft within the operating system.
Not sure this will work, but may be worth a try.

  • Cat 3750-Span (Port Mirroring issue)

    Hello team
I am facing port mirroring issue in my setup. Details of the setup are mentioned below
    Setup--
Stack of 4 catalyst switches WS-C3750X-48P running software 15.0(1) SE3 .Approximately 12 vlans are configured in this setup and port mirroring is done for all vlans with destination configured as single Gig Ethernet port...The setup works fine from mirroring perspective for 3-4 days and after that machine connected to destination port stops getting data.
    Observations-
It has been observed that during the issue, the port configured for mirror destination has lot of packet drop/input errors on the port statistics.
If we configure only TX packet mirroring, it works for 8 -10 days
If we configure TX & RX packet mirroring, it works for 2-3 days
    Testing done
Tried clearing counter on destination port but no success (mirroring doesn’t start)
Tried  shut /no shut for the destination port but no success.
Tried restarting the machine connected to destination port but no success
    Workaround
We need to reconfigure the mirroring configuration after removing the mirroring config from the switch. Once the same is done, mirroring starts working.
    Want to understand
1-is there any HW limitation for the switch (destination port not capable of handling mirroring traffic)
2-is there any software related issue?
3-what can be permanent resolution for the same..

    Hello
We have tried this previously but found same result.
1- we deleted the monitror session and recreated again with same session number
2-we deleted the monitor session and created new session (session id diffrent ) with same config..
in both cases its working for 3-4 days..

  • Cisco MDS series switch details

Hello I 'm new to CISCO  Switch world.
I 'm working as Clariion Admin and have have taken up the responsibilty to manage switches.Since,i am a novice i need little guidance on how work on cisco switches.I know the Zoning (how zoning done on MDS 9000 series switches) part ,but would like to venture deep into the details on CISCO MDS series switches.
Like, the use of Port channels etc.
Will really appreciate if some one can help me with a link or place ( not the configuration guide) where in i can find details on concentrated more on the theory part .
    Thanks in advance!

Actually the best info is in the configuration guides.  There are some external companies that run training sessions on the MDS to provide in depth training.  There is the MDS cookbook available on CCO that is also a good point of information.    If you search on 'MDS white papers' after you login into Cisco.com, there are several good documents that might meet your needs.
    Hope this hels,
    Mike

  • Cisco 500 series switches

    Dear support,
Can Cisco 500 series switches deliver 24V on the access port for POE operation?
    Best Regards

I belive the 802..2F and 802.2at poe standard is strictly 48v.  I haven't found anything to the contrary.  There are inline convertes 48v-24v or something like this that can be used with a non poe switch: http://www.digital-loggers.com/poe24.html but that means all conected device would be off the same access port / vlan.
