Shadow Instance Left Behind in SLD After Using SUM

Hello,
Is there a standard procedure for removing the SLD information left behind by the creation of shadow ABAP instances when using SUM to update or upgrade systems? Should SUM have some final step for this built in, or should the update instructions include a step to go into SLD and delete the shadow instance information manually?
My situation is as follows. I recently updated the support package stack for my Solution Manager 7.1 system from sps4 to sps12 using SUM (this was for a new installation of Solution Manager). Afterwards, I used SOLMAN_SETUP to perform the System Preparation and Basic Configuration steps, and now I have progressed to Managed System Configuration. The first managed system to configure is Solution Manager itself, and in working on the SolMan ABAP instance, in step 6, 'Enter Landscape Parameters,' I noticed that there is an extra ABAP instance, DVEBMGS03, showing up as a landscape object node. I was puzzled for a bit about this, as there is no instance 03 in my SolMan system, only 00, 01, and 02. Eventually I figured out that SOLMAN_SETUP gets this landscape information from the obvious place, LMDB, which in turn gets it from SLD, and sure enough in LMDB and SLD I can find the "AppServer 03" instance defined.
That's when the light bulb hit. SUM creates a shadow ABAP instance when updating the support package stack (unlike using SPAM), similar to as it does during an upgrade. It deletes the shadow instance at the end of the update, but in the meantime the system has synchronized itself to SLD, and now SLD has a definition for that shadow instance that doesn't go away when the instance is deleted.
It's easy enough to manually delete it in SLD, of course, but that leads me to wonder if there's a preferred option for handling this other than manual manipulation of SLD data.
The version of SUM I used was 1.0 sp11 pl9.
Regards,
Matt

That's right, although for a support pack update, I'm not sure if the jobs even get suspended. In the past, when doing this with SPAM, there was no shadow instance to worry about, so it wasn't an issue. In upgrades, when there typically is a shadow instance, things are much more "shut down" in the system (jobs suspended, etc) than is often the case with support pack updates (though perhaps those should be just as much "shut down").
So in future I will definitely keep an eye out for it. Stopping the data supplier should be added to the tool and/or listed as a manual step in the guide to prevent inconsistent landscape and software component data from being replicated (or perhaps it already is and I missed it). I'm going to tag Boris Rubarth to get his take on it, as he is a key player in the development and maintenance of the SUM tool.
Deleting the extra instance in SLD was very easy, and I watched it replicate to LMDB very quickly, and it immediately disappeared upon refresh from the managed system configuration tool. However, it later showed up in diagnostics agent administration, as well, as a warning about a system path not being reachable by the agent (it was trying to reach \usr\sap\SID\DVEBMGS03, which doesn't exist), and so I had to edit the agent landscape paths to remove that as well).
Although the problem is long since solved in my system, as described above, I will keep the question open for a few more hours to see what Boris or others may have to add.

Matt

  • Getting rid of all the junk left behind from SL after upgraded to Lion

I still seem to have a-lot of junk that was left behind from SL - I want to get rid of it all as I want to just start with Lion from fresh.
Can someone tell me how to get rid of all the junk that SL left behind when I upgraded to Lion (like all the old plist files and all of that).  Also I seem to still have some of my SL settings in there as well.
Ideally i would like to do a fresh install of Lion but I don't want to loose any of the stuff that came preinstalled on my computer (Like iLife and all of that) and since my NAS that I was using for Time Machine wont work on Lion there would be no way of backing up or restoring those.
Thus I am left with just manually deleting all of the junk.
Can someone give me some instruction on how I would go about doing that (like anyone that has already upgraded and then deleted all stuff SL leaves behind.)
    Thanks
    jason

You can start with /Utilities/System Information > System Report > Applications and delete all PPC apps.
Once you have your Apps cleaned up you could clone the system to another disk, do a clean install and just use Migrqtion Manager in Setup Assistant to migrate only Applications.

  • Activation error due to the missing objects in shadow instance.

    Hello All,
We have problem with our NW701 -> NW730 upgrade. In phase ACT_UPG there is problem with activation of two tables ->
1EEDO519 "Table" "/BI0/PRSTT_EID" could not be activated
1EEDO519 "Table" "/BI0/PRSTT_OBJNM" could not be activated
The problem is that the data elements which are used in this tables were not mirrored into shadow instance. These 3 data elements are missing ->
    /BI0/OIRSTT_FDATE
    /BI0/OIRSTT_FTIME
    /BI0/OIRSTT_SSYS
In the logfile CUSTEXP.IWY there is following error message ->
    3 EUG166 Unknown message with "R3TR" "DTEL" "/BI0/OIRSTT_FDATE" "0RSTT_FDATE"
    3 EUG166 Unknown message with "R3TR" "DTEL" "/BI0/OIRSTT_FTIME" "0RSTT_FTIME"
    3 EUG166 Unknown message with "R3TR" "DTEL" "/BI0/OIRSTT_SSYS" "0RSTT_SSYS"
Worse is that in the log CUSTEXP.IWY we can see that 179 objects has the same error message and these objects do not exist in shadow instance.
When I try "where used" button on data element /BI0/OIRSTT_FTIME in SE11 I get the list of structures where it is used, for example structure /BIC/CE8OMIS_VS. This structure /BIC/CE8OMIS_VS exists in shadow instance and is active but the data element /BI0/OIRSTT_FTIME is missing! And if I check the consistency of the structure in SE11 I receive an error about missing data element.
I dont think this is ok, and there could be more objects which seems to be activated but if some of the data elements or domains etc... is missing there is a problem. I have opened OSS message for this but maybe someone from you have experience with such behavior and can help.
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    JM

    Hi Manish Patel,
I have received an answer from SAP :
I have confirmed with our BW-SYS-DB expert, actually the affected
objects ("*RSTT*") are part of the technical content. We deliver with
the technical content our interbal trace tool. Obviously part of the
trace tool is inconsistent in your system and as it was never used the
problem was not visible before the upgrade.
To proceed, please skip the errors ( the objects are absolute not
necessary for running BW ) and after the upgrade is finished please
activate the technical content. The missing objects must be created
    by the activation.
So I have skipped the activation of these objects and I am continuing ...

  • Data left behind after scripted imaging

I know this sounds a little weird, but sometimes after one of my techs runs one of the scripts we use stuff is left behind on the workstation (games, or media players that are not part of the image - but not everything). You can actually watch the image process and complete ok and restart the computer - it even goes though the post imaging stuff prior to login. Here is an example of one of the 2 scripts doing this sometimes -
    dd if=/bin/mbr.mbr of=/dev/hda
    dd if=/bin/mbr.mbr of=/dev/sda
    img pd1
    img pd2
    img pd3
    img pd4
    img pc1 ntfs
    img rp $PROXYADDR //$PROXYADDR/zen/images/imagename.zmg a1:p1
    img pa1
    reboot -f
It's happening on XP and 2000 latest updates on both, were currently running Zfd version 6.5.2. Has anyone seen this, or do you see any reason with this script that this would happen?? It works normally if you go though imaging w/o the scripts.
    Thanks for any clues!!

    Dennis,
I had the exact same issue after updating from ZEN4 to ZEN7. The solution
for it was to change the command from:
    img rp $PROXYADDR //$PROXYADDR/zen/images/imagename.zmg a1:p1
    to:
    img restorep $PROXYADDR //$PROXYADDR/zen/images/imagename.zmg a1:p1
That was the solution to my problem.
Hope this one helps for u

  • Urgent: cannot start the shadow instance at phase STARTSAP_TRANS

We are upgrading to NW2004s (ABAP only) from 640.
    <u><b>How to re-start the shadow instance?</b></u>
At this point, <b>anyway we cannot start the shadow instance.</b>
    At SAPMMC, the disp+work
    1) first show "running but the dialog queue standstill"
    2) then show" running but not connected to the message server"
    3) then the disp+work dies.

The PREPARE module Import will be started now.
During this module programs, structures, and table entries
required by PREPARE are imported (the socalled "tool import").
Note: This can cause a loss of performance in R/3
In rare cases, a concurrent transport via the transport directory
may disturb the tool import. Please avoid any concurrent import
    during this PREPARE module.

  • [SOLVED] Getting freezes after using dwm for some time and exiting it

Hello, I have an Asus Ux51, with a fresh (less than a month) arch installation. If I recall correctly I had a couple of freezes in other occasions but I don't remember much about those so I rather focus on the only freeze I can more or less reproduce and I've been having lately. After using dwm for some time with a couple of programs opened (rTorrent, browser, and some terminals for instance), if I close dwm or just press the power button to shut down, it starts closing everything and either stays with a black screen, or hangs while X prints the log information. It's not always though, for example, if I just boot it, open dwm and close it without giving it much use it usually closes fine.
Tried googling a bit to see the usual ways to troubleshoot this but didn't get really far.

Found this recent thread in the forums, I'll give REISUB a try late, but the times it freezed I remember trying to blindly reboot it, or switching off virtual console and couldn't.
In case it's of any use, this is my # uname -a
    Linux arch 3.10.3-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Jul 26 11:26:59 CEST 2013 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Could it have something to do with the nvidia optimus setup that this laptop has? When installing arch I found out that there was no support yet for it so I'm just using the intel drivers (following what the arch wiki said).
Any ideas or advice to point me in the right direction would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

I don't start st in my .xinitrc. I launch it from dmenu and usually everything is fine. If I launch it from dwm's internal command using Alt-Shf-Return, X freezes 100% of the time. A workaround was suggested by st's main developer to call st like this:
    static const char *termcmd[] = { "/bin/sh", "-c", "st", NULL };
but it didn't work for me.
Very rarely X will freeze anyway. I haven't been able to pin it down. When X fails, my journal returns this:

I can't figure out why the work processes can't connect to the DB.  I verify that the R3trans -d is working kernel exe, in both the exe and exenew of the upgrade shadow instance.  Any ideas?

    Hi Markus,
thks for your advise. I already updated the Oracle Client to version 10.2.0.2.
The upgrade from CRM 5.0 to CRM 6.0 - 2007 is still running, but theres nothing happens in PHASE SETSYNC_EULCK_D1. This Phase comes after the EU_Imports 1-7.
In the log directory there ist also nothing the indicates about errors.
Here is the last SAPUp.log entries

I'm a Pro Tools user, who just did an "Archive and Install" installation of 10.5.8 over my 10.4.11 on my 2 Ghz G5, now Pro Tools won't launch.  I checked the extensions folder and sure enough, the digidesign extensions were left behind.  Can I revert back to the "Archive" of my 10.4.11 System from the "Previous Systems" folder?  If not, what's the point of creating the "archive"?

Did you select "Preserve User Settings"?
Archive and Install installation automatically moves existing system files to a folder named Previous System, then installs Mac OS X again. (See tip 3.) You cannot start up your computer using a Previous System folder, nor can you "re-bless" the Previous System folder. (See tip 1.)
You can choose to preserve your user and network settings before installing. This option automatically moves existing users, Home directories, and network settings. This also skips the Setup Assistant after installation.
Note: Because the "Preserve user and network settings" option moves, not copies, existing users, Home directories, and network settings, from the Previous Systems folder to the newly installed System, these items will not exist in the Previous Systems folder after the Archive and Install is complete.

BTW, it is never recommended to do a major OS change without having a full, bootable backup.

  • Silent background update: old file(s) left behind

On one of our systems, Japanese Windows XP Pro, I noticed that after the 11.2.292.235 update, file Flash32_11_2_202_233.ocx was left behind.  Here is the FlashInstall.log file for that portion

I thought that a Windows restart may clear that file, but it did not.
How is the background updater handling this; attempt to delete it at a later stage (e.g. during the next update)?
P.S. on all other systems, all files were successfully removed.

Sorry, we only run Firefox, Chrome, and IE here, so I can't attest to what happens on those other browsers.
The only other thing I can add is that this was the 32bit version of Flash.
This is extremely easy to replicate.  I went into the
    c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash
directory and copied NPSWF32_11_2_202_235.dll to NPSWF32_11_2_202_233.dll
I then launched ProcMon from SysInternals so I could spy on exactly what was happening.  Then I launched Firefox and went to the adobe flash about page.  Of course, it returned version 235.  But ProcMon told a different story.  Firefox had launched the plugin-container.exe using the 233 DLL I just copied!
    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugin-container.exe" --channel=2500.56b6a60.744882939 "C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32_11_2_202_233.dll" - -greomni "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\omni.ja" 2500 "\\.\pipe\gecko-crash-server-pipe.2500" plugin
The problem comes because Firefox is using a QueryDirectory command with '*' when it looks in the Macromed\Flash directory for the DLL.  This returns items alphabetically.  It must be looking for the NPSWF32 prefix, so the LOWEST version number will always win!
To prove this, I made a copy of NPSWF32_11_2_202_235.dll and named it NPSWF32_0.dll.  So now I'm looking at the following directory entries.
    FlashInstall.log
    flashplayer.xpt
    FlashPlayerUpdateService.exe
    FlashUtil32_11_2_202_235_Plugin.exe
    mms.cfg
    NPSWF32_0.dll
    NPSWF32_11_2_202_235.dll
Note that alphabetically, my _0 copy is above the real copy.  I use ProcMon to spy on Firefox once again.  And Firefox goes and loads NPSW32_0.dll into the plugin-container.exe command line!  This is despite the registry having no mention of this file, and all registry entries that refer to flash have NPSWF32_11_2_202_235.dll in them.
You guys have a huge problem here.
    Get ProcMon -> http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645

  • Managing projects changes - left behind

When I upgraded to 8.0.0, I loved the new feature that created a project folder, and also nested folders for organization. With the 8.0.1 update, I noticed lots of files being copied when I saved a new project. This essentially means that I have to go back to my old ways and create these folders manually, or waste HUGE amounts of drive space.
I finally figured out what was going on and found this in the Late-Breaking News file:
    +Saving a Project+
+When you use the File > Save As command to save your project to a new location+
+(outside the current project folder) and select the Include Assets checkbox, the new+
+project folder will contain all audio files used in the “old” project’s Arrange area. The+
+“Copy external audio files to project folder” checkbox does not affect this behavior.+
Later, in the next section, it adds:
+If, for some reason, you don’t wish to include used audio files, don’t enable the Include+
+Assets checkbox in the Save As dialog.+
How about a way to create these project folders without wasting so much space with duplicate files?
Is anyone else having a problem with this new "feature"?

I think its a Adobe bug, not a Microsoft bug. The behaviour started when Microsoft released a update (KB2993651) back in august 2014. The first thought is that it is a Microsoft issue but the KB clearly states a change in FONT behavior. Adobe didn't react to this change and Microsoft keeps updating the engine on a monthly basis so there are already alot of other KB's that can cause the same issue.
Furthermore. The same problem already existed before in 2011 on older systems. Adobe never figured it out and only suggested a workarround.
Acrobat/Reader: [email protected] files left behind in Temp folder after printing
Another user on this forum did some research and found that Adobe uses a legacy function when printing from Adobe reader.
    http://blog.notmyfault.ch/?p=378
If Adobe leaves Z@ temp files behind in the user temp directory after printing and those files can't be deleted other than a reboot it must be a Adobe bug. Other utilities like FoxIT reader do not have this problem on modern updated Windows OS-es.

  • CC Registry File Left Behind

What do I do with a Windows 7 registry file left behind when I used the Creative Cloud manager to activate Typekit and CC Files? The file is named cc_20130911_192915.reg . Should I (1) double click on it to install it into the registry (2) delete it by dragging it into the trash (3) do something else with it?

Sorry I wasn’t specific. I only noticed it because the file appeared on my desktop. I’ve been working with DOS and editing registries since the early ‘80s and never have encountered a file on the desktop that was supposed to be double clicked to install an entry into the registry.
I did a chat with Adobe Support about it, and after half an hour of “Thanks for your patience while I look into it further,” the rep said, “That is a technical issue. Please hold while I transfer you to a technical support area.” Support never came on the line, and I hung up after 15 minutes because no one responded when I attempted to query them.
I appreciate your answer and am hoping an Adobe rep will find the question here and give me some enlightenment about why the file is there and what its purpose is.

  • Address Book Sharing: are custom fields shared or left behind

I want to share an Address Book on one system with 3 other users through MobileMe. I will also allow the 3 other users to add, delete and change the contacts. All 4 systems have their own MobileMe accounts.
We make extensive use of custom relationship fields. Will those fields transfer with the with the shared contacts, or are they left behind?
(I know that only a limited number of relationship fields (no custom fields at all) in Address Book are available to Pages and Bento)
I've looked all over the Address Book sharing information (that I can find), and the issue of custom fields does not seem to be addressed in connection with Address Book Sharing.
Can anyone recommend any documentation that answers this question?
Is there any real (detailed) documentation at all about Address Book Sharing?
    Thanks for your help.

@taylor thanks for the suggestion, but it's not quite what i had in mind. The red -/green + buttons are used to add/remove more items in the same category, ie., phone numbers, email addresses, URLs, etc. If you finish editing a record and then click on one of these fields, you get a contextual menu with various options.
But, my Skype name is not an email address, nor is it a phone number. It belongs in the IM section of the Contact template, but unlike the "Custom" option for labeling a Phone Number, the IM drop-down menu doesn't have a Custom option, nor a Skype option.
There are several possible workarounds, but that's the point, innit? Skype has been around a long time - there shouldn't be a need for a workaround.
