Share local folder across network?

I want to work on my site on 2 different computers, but hold
the local folder on only one. I thought I did this before, but
Dreamweaver is not allowing me now. I get the error that it is not
a valid folder when i navigate to it. Does anyone know how to do
this?? I am choosing to edit it over the network, but it says this
is not a valid local folder.

I do this all the time with no problem, but I do it via a
mapped network
drive - perhaps that's what you are missing?

  • Copy folder across network to network sharepoint

I want to set up a crontab or even a script crontab can run to
create a folder with date and name of computer and transfer
a folder with files in it to the server where the sharepoints are located.
Also, what about authentication? I can set up a user with no password, but how would the script or crontab be set for a specific username and/or password?
I know how to create the folders and have used the cp command.
I am very unsure on how to setup a way to transfer the files to a share point across network.
    Any ideas?

Check this link out - http://troy.jdmz.net/rsync/index.html
I use it to copy a folder from one server to another as a kind of off-site backup strategy.

  • Can I share my iCal across a network or only thro' .Mac?

Can I share my iCal across a network or only thro' .Mac? If so, how?

I don't think there's a way to share a calendar over a local network, but if you have your own non-.Mac webspace on the Internet, you can publish an iCal calendar to it rather than .Mac. To do this, open iCal and select Publish from the Calendar menu. In the dialog box that pops up, change the Publish On drop-down menu to "a private server" and put in whatever your password is to access the server.

  • How do I share a folder on mac mini with other macs in the network?

    Howdy all!
The scenario I have in mind is that I have one folder in our Mac Mini (used as Home Theater) with all the family's music files on it. The rest of the family would be able to access the folder and copy the music they prefer onto their own computers (iMacs and Macbooks). The other computers would have read only access, they would not be able to alter the contents of the original file (to prevent accidental deletion). Only the user of the Mini Home Theater could alter the contents of said file.
I have tried pulling up the "Get Info" window and clicking the "Shared Folder" and "Locked" boxes, but all this seems to do is make the user of the Mac Mini unable to alter the contents of the folder. All the other macs on the network can access and alter the folder contents no problem.
    What am I missing?
Thank you for any advice you can give!

This isn't quite what I was looking for. I don't want to share the folder with users on the same computer--I want to share the folder with users on other computers.
Unless there is some way to identify users on other computers. How can I do that?

    Hi!
I have a WD my book external hard drive plugged into my imac and I want to share it over my network with my apple tv. I went into system preferences > sharing, checked "file sharing" and added my external hard drive to the shared folder. So now it is listed in "shared folders" but under "users" everything is grayed out (it says "read and write" for "everyone" - but "read and write" is grayed out, and it doesn't let me add or subtract users). Now I can access all of the folders I shared from my imac except for the externalhard drive. What's going on?

Hi RRFS!,thanks for help.I forgot to tell that hard drive has 2 partitions 1:format :Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and that works properly,2:format:MS-DOS (FAT32) and when i "get info" for both :first has shering & permitions:You can read and write - with name and privilege, second has shaing & prermissions:You can read and write- without name and privilege

  • What is the Local Folder under the Network Icon?

When you have the finder window open there is a Network icon. Click this icon I see:
    Local
    MSHOME
    Servers (shortcut)
    Workgroup
The Local folder has an Icon in it with a name of "CPE 76-184-246-5" with a Connect button underneath. If I click on it I get an error "Original item couldn't be found"
    What is this for?
    Thanks

  • Share local CVS Folder between SQLDeveloper and TortoiseCVS?

    Hi all,
i tried to play around with SQL Developers CVS Support, but can't get it right.
I would like to checkout a module from CVS using TortoiseCVS (e.g. to C:\Project\ragtest\), because there are many files not related to Database in there.
To edit, compile and commit my Database Packages i would like to use SQL Developer, but would like SQL Developer to share my local Folder (C:\Project\ragtest) with TortoiseCVS.
    Is that possible?
    Peter

I can make it work as follows.
In TortoiseCVS, define CVSROOT as necessary (eg :pserver:myuser@mycvsserver:/cvs
In SQLDeveloper, create a new CVS connection with exactly the same CVSROOT.
You should be able to see alll the modules in the Versioning Navigator and in TortoiseCVS.
    Checkout a module in TortoiseCVS
Open the File Navigator in SQLDeveloper, and go to the directory you checked out to. The files should appear there with appropriate CVS overlay icons and version.
    Modify a file in SQLDeveloper.
The status of the file should change in both SQLDeveloper and TortoiseCVS.
    Modify a file outside SQLDeveloper
You have to use view refresh to see the status change in SQLDeveloper.

  • Sharing Photos across Network - Features Of

    Hi
I want to share my Library across the network with other users. I also want them to be able to copy and paste my pictures or atleast save them and also to be able to Search them.
I've tried this with 2 machines running iPhoto 5.04 and also 2 running 6.0.2 but I can't copy and paste unless I move the image from the Shared Album to the local Library and I can't search the Shared Library at all as it's greyed out.
Anyone know if it's possible to do a Search on a Shared Library and how? (wherher apple supported or not)
    Thanks Matt
    Macs o Plenty   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Okay. I think I have the solution. As I read it, you have two issues. First, you need to be able to share. Second, you want to copy photos from one computer to the other.
    1. Go under the preferences section of iPhoto (under sharing) on the computer you want to share from and select "Share my photos". Make sure that you have either selected "Share Entire Library" or checked certain albums if you chose "Share Selected Albums." If you don't pick any albums with that option, nothing will show up on the other/destination computer.
On the other computer, go to the preferences section of iPhoto (under sharing) and make sure the option to "Look for shared photos" is selected. If so, you should see the library from the sharing computer show up in your album list. You should now be able to browse all of the libraries on the sharing computer (or at least the ones you selected, if you did not choose to share all of them).
    2. To copy photos over to the library of the other computer (the one that is accessing the shared library of the first computer), select the photos that you want to add and drag them over to your library folder. iPhoto will start importing them for you.
That should take care of it. Let me know if it does not. You would not normally need to open any ports on your router as long as both computers are on the same network.
One more thing, if you want password protection, make sure to put a password under the sharing preferences for the computer you are sharing from.

  • Problems sharing media across network via USB of E4200

Wasn't sure where to post this.... I have been using the e4200 for about a week.  So far, so good!  However, a primary reason I purch it was the ability to share via USB across my network (Files and such).  Read the approved USB drives that r compatible and although my specfic drive was not listed (WD, my Passport) I connected it to the e4200 and set a folder called "movies"to share.  In this folder I have both bluray rips (25-32GB) and standard rips (5gb or less).  Regardless of source, the content was not playable.  It buffered like crazy.  So, is it as simple as using an approved USB drive and I will be able to share appropriately?
The same folder plays great when connected directly to one of my media streamers USB drive, so don't think the drive/source is bad.
    Thank you!

What is the capacity of the your WD HDD? The maximum HDD capacity supported by E4200 is 3TB. What is the hardware version of the device, also please mention the current firmware version of E4200.
You have mentioned that the media is not playable. Does it not play at all or it takes time to buffer and then play?

  • How do you share Aperture file across multiple users on same Mac?

How do you share Aperture file across multiple users on same Mac? Seems this should be a preferences choice.

When you share your library between users, you may run into permission and ownership problems, if both users are editing the Aperture library and not only reading it. To avoid that, it helps to put the Aperture library onto a separate disk or a separate partion of your hard drive. For s separate partition or disk you can enable the "ignore ownership on this volume" flag. Then all users can access the library as owners of this library.
You might try to put the aperture library into a shared folder on your mac, but that has caused problems recently, i.e. when the library also contains video files.

  • How to share files in a network and allow read-and-write to a specific computer only?

I have several computers in my network, and I want to share a folder and allow read-and-write from computer A to Computer B only, and omit computer C. How do I do that? Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion. I like this approach as Java is more familiar to me than other languages.
Our DBA is out of touch today, so I could not grant the javauserpriv to my database user. I tried to run the script anyway in the chance that my user had the privs, and it seemed to have hung. I am now combing Oracle's site for more documentation so I can write some tests to see if I can get a basic Java object working. Under what heading would I find this?

  • Unable to share a folder with specific users

    Hi,
I'm attempting a seemingly simple task on my home network of 4 computers. I want to share a folder located on one computer, called PC1, with another computer called PC2 with full read/write permission. All other machines on the network are not to have access
to this folder. Both machines are running Windows 7.
On PC2, I am able to see the shared folder under Networks but if I try to open it, I keep getting a 'You do not have permission to access...' error. The following are the steps I've taken to set up the network share.
Both machines are on the same workgroup.
Both machines are on the home network, not work/public.
Turned off homegroup on both machines in Advanced Networking Properties by selecting "Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers".
Created a standard non-admin user account on PC1 that has the same username/password as the admin login used to log into PC2.
On PC1, right-clicked the folder I want to share and added the above user account to both the Sharing and Security tabs.
Removed the Everyone group in PC1 from both the Sharing and Security tab for the shared folder.
If I am missing a step, please let me know. I have noticed that if I add  the Everyone group back to the Sharing and Security tab for the shared folder on PC1, I am able to have full access from PC2. However, since I want to restrict access
to this folder to only one machine, I didn't want to have the Everyone group listed.

  • Move email from Inbox to Local Folder using Message Filter moves header only, not contents.

I created a Message Filter to move email from Inbox to a Local Folder based on Date. The email headers were moved, but not the contents. Since I'm using IMAP, all the emails were deleted from the server.
I searched for similar problems and I followed one suggestion to "repair" one of the target Local Folders, but that made things worse. Now the header information (Subject, From, Date (now set to the date the transfer was done, not the email received date) is all blank.
The Local Folder properties indicate the email is contained in
    mailbox:///C:/Users/Ted/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles/c65xcqqf.default/Mail/Local Folders/Archives.sbd/2010
I can see the messages from other Local Folders here, but the ones "moved" are empty.
    Should this location be changed?
Is there some way to recover the email contents?
