SharePoint Bug: SharePoint Permissions

I've a collaboration portal for intranet needs. I've defined a  custom SharePoint Security Group called "ABC" with the following permissions
a)Add Items
b)it Items
c)View Items
d)Open Items
e)View Versions
f)View Application pages
g)Add and Customize pages
h)Browse Directories
i)View pages
j)Browse User Information
k)Use Remote Interfaces
l)Use client Integration Features
m)Open
I didn’t give approve permission for this group "ABC". I've a document library called "Test".
I've granted users of "ABC" group to access the document library "Test"
The users of the Group "ABC" are able to approve the documents. If you see the permission list of "ABC", it does not have Approve Permissions.
Users of the group "ABC" does not belong to any other group within SharePoint
Please let me know the following
a)Is this the Bug with the product ??
b)Is this the expected behaviour of the product ??

what is b)it
Items?
Does the user has rights via other ways? (Web application policy? / Site collection administrators?)

    hi,
can anyone please help me with the following:
The description for Event ID 8306 from source Microsoft-SharePoint Products-SharePoint Foundation cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair
the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
The HTTP service located at http://localhost:32843/SecurityTokenServiceApplication/securitytoken.svc/actas is too busy.
The publisher has been disabled and its resource is not avaiable. This usually occurs when the publisher is in the process of being uninstalled or upgraded

    Hi,
Please try the following steps to troubleshoot your issue:
    1.
You can try to re-run SharePoint 2010 products configuration wizard to see any problems that still exist.
    2.
Go to IIS and see the status of SecurityTokenServiceApplicationPool service, whether it is stopped or not, restart the pool.
    3.
Go to manage web application services, review the status of Security Token Service application , try to restart.
    4.
In Central Administration>Security>Configure Service Account>Change the service account for the Security Token Service application to some other managed account.
    5.
If the issue persists, try the resolution in this blog:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sowmyancs/archive/2010/07/16/sharepoint-2010-service-applications-bcs-metadata-access-service-are-not-working.aspx

  • SharePoint Bug? Conflict Error when saving a Page with a "Required" DateTime field in the page layout

    Hello,
I've just recently encountered a weird error / bug in SharePoint. Here is the scenario:
    - I have a custom column "Test Date" that is of DateTime field type. The field is configured as REQUIRED.
    - It is added to a custom Content Type "Test CT" that is based on a "Publishing Page" content type
    - I have created a Page Layout "Test PL" which is based on that particular content type.
    Now here is what happens:
    1. I try to create a page based on both that Content Type and Page Layout in the Pages Library. I manage to create it successfully.
    2. However, when I go to try and edit the page, fill-in the required values and try to save it using the PAGE TAB -> SAVE BUTTON, I get the below error/s. Note that this happens no matter what I choose in the drop-down menu for Save Button.
"The file XXX has been modified by USER on DATE"
But I know I am the ONLY user modifying the page.
If I try to save again it gives me options to whether Discard my Changes, Keep Editing, Overwrite Changes, or Merge.
    3. HOWEVER, if I use the Save button on the UPPER RIGHT corner of the screen (the shortcut). I am able to save successfully without any errors!
The only thing I've tried that made it work was if I made the DateTime OPTIONAL. But I need it to be REQUIRED.
Is there any workaround to this error / bug?
    Thanks

I have some additional info but nothing really good.
If you click the Save in the left side of the Ribbon then it looks like that is when you get the message. If you click the Save in the top right corner you won't get the message. They must be calling different saving functions.
There really is no way around it other than making the field optional which probably removes some server side validation checks causing that message.
We've chosen to remove that field from the page as I needed it required, then they can't publish the page until they go to the properties and set the article date. By removing the field from the page layout the message goes away.
I hope MS will fix this at some point.

  • What are high and low values in sharepoint 2013 user permissions?

    So I hit this api:
    http://win-a3q7ml82p8f/sharepoint_site/_api/web/roledefinitions/
And got the different high and low values. But I am not clear with what they mean:
    For eg:
    High: 176, Low: 138612833
    and
    High: 176, Low: 138612801
So for different values of Low how does it change the permissions?
For 176 its binary is 10110000. So looking at this table here: http://www.dctmcontent.com/sharepoint/Articles/Permissions%20and%20Mask%20Values.aspx
I can understand that 176 would mean the following set of permissions:
    DeleteVersions
    OpenItems
    ApproveItems
But what's confusing me is, that user has OpenItems permissions but not ViewListItems permission? Am I wrong in understanding this?
Also how does the value of Low change the overall user permissions?
Note: I looked at this answer: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/9d6df168-e8f5-4323-8c34-0646c03eff68/rest-api-what-are-high-and-low-in-effectivebasepermissions-and-getusereffectivepermissions?forum=sharepointdevelopment
But honestly I cant understand what that means. Can someone help please?

  • SharePoint 2013 check permissions unable to find permission level for AD user

In our environment for SharePoint AD groups are associated with individual AD members and AD group is given access to SharePoint group with a permission level. When I want to check for a user who are part on the AD group using check permission to find their
SharePoint permission level it returns "none", but when I check what permission level the AD group has check permission returns correct permission level.
I am not sure if this is the right behavior for SharePoint 2013 not to display individual AD user permission using check permission, business users have to request IT every time they have to find a user permission level.

    Hi,
As far as I know, the user permissions which set in AD Groups is not updated immediately to SharePoint Site. The AD group informations are converted into claims and packed into security token issued by the STS (Security Token Service).
For troubleshooting your issue, you can configure the Token Cache to a smaller value and check the permission level of the user who is granted permissions through AD group:

  • Uploading a video to sharepoint without editing permissions

    Hello people.
I need to set up a sharepoint online 2013 website that allows our users to upload videos to a web part or list on the website, without giving them editing permissions.
Is there a way of doing this?
FYI I might not be allowed to use infopath forms to achieve this.

There are multiple ways to achieve this.  You can use the dropoff library by enabling the Content Organizer feature on the site collection (this could give them ways to upload different types of content and you can put it in different libraries
    based on metadata).
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-server-help/create-content-organizer-rules-to-route-documents-HA101807927.aspx
Another way is to create a custom permission level on the library, where you copy the contributor permission level, and then remove the "edit" ability:

  • Transfer changes from Document to the Document Set [Sharepoint bug?]

I I have Document Set, 1 Document inside and, for example,
    1 general field.
Task: when I change Document I need to copy value of the general field to the Document Set.
Problem: I made Workflow on Document that calls when I change it, this Workflow copies data to the Document Set.
But it doesn't work, because when I change Document inside Document Set there are 2 events: "Document was changed" and "Document Set was changed". And the event "Document Set was changed" called first and it copies all general
fields to all documents inside. That's why when my Workflow starts, field in Document has value from Document Set not the one that user typed.
Any solutions to solve the task or problem (e.g. to increase the priority for Workflow on documents inside)?

    Hi ,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to copy the value of a field for a document inside a document set to the associated column for document set.
How did you design your workflow?
I did a test based on your description, and I used the ID (in my testing, the ID of the document set is 2)to find the associated document set, and the testAA is the column.
    My workflow is:
In my testing, everything was ok. Please have a try as the above workflow, compare the result.

  • Sharepoint online & Sharepoint Designer 2013

Hi, I am receiving an error each time I try to open a SharePoint online site through SharePoint designer 2013.
The error is saying "The Server Could not complete your request". I click on 'Details' and get a repeated "403 Forbidden403 Forbidden403 Forbidden" error message. After I pass this message I get a standard "You do not have permission
to open this web site in SharePoint designer"
Here are a list of things that have so far not worked for me:
Using "https://" rather than "http://" - Same issue.
Removing SharePoint Designer, deleting cache in "users>Roaming>SharePoint designer cache"  - Same issue.
Clearing Generic Credentials in Credential Manager - Same issue.
Checking SharePoint site permissions to ensure that " Same issue.
My Admin role grants no restrictions.
I have Nintex trials installed and have used it to build forms on the site, I also have Nintex workflow however current tutorials detailing how to do what I need to do require SharePoint Designer 2013.
Finally SharePoint Developer 2013 has opened sites before, both SharePoint online sites and on prem, but now our company has gone in for the 'real deal' site I can not open this in SharePoint Designer 2013.
Any support would be very much appreciated, I have been trying to find a solution for a number of days now going into a week.
    Regards,
    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,
What permission do you have at site collection level and site level?
For troubleshooting your issue, please go to your site collection -> site settings -> site collection administration -> SharePoint Designer Settings, make sure you enable the SharePoint Designer.
Also make sure the o365 sites are added to the trusted sites and the WebClient services (Search: services.msc) is running. Then in SPD go to Account > Switch Account and type in the credentials of the site you are trying to open (it defaults to your
    Microsoft Login).

  • Access excel sheet uploaded in library on sharepoint using sharepoint development

    Hi,
I have an excel sheet which i have uploaded on sharepoint site as a library.
now i want to access this excel sheet using sharepoint development(c#).
    Is it possible?
I have one another query- I want to read excel sheet using sharepoint 2010 development.
Please help to solve both issues.
    Thanks in advance!
    Regards
    rajni

    Hi rajni,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to access the excel files uploaded in a library and read the worksheet data by C#.
You can read excel file using Excel Services. The Excel Services REST API is a new feature of Excel Services that enables you to access Microsoft Excel workbook data by using a uniform resource locator (URL) address. Using the REST API, you can retrieve
resources such as ranges, charts, tables, and PivotTables from workbooks stored on SharePoint Server 2010. More inforamtion, please refer to the link below:

  • Unable to change and re-publish existing InfoPath forms on External SharePoint lists (SharePoint 2013 Enterprise Online and On Premise)

    Hi everybody,
I really reached the limit of my diagnostic ability... ...please help me!!!!
I subscribed an Online Sharepoint 2013 Development site to try Business Connectivity Services and InfoPath forms. Using SharePoint Designer 2013 I successfully created an external content type
and an external list, including InfoPath forms.
When I use InfoPath Designer 2013 to customize the forms I can open and change them without any problems, but when I try to publish the changes I made I get the following error:
"An error has occurred. The form template has been published to the server but it can only be opened using InfoPath filler"
(please note that I changed just an existing label, without adding any new control or new fields).
If I try to do exactly the same things but with an normal SharePoint list everything works like a charm!
I noted that the main difference between the internal/external list is that with the internal list the publishing path in InfoPath 2013 is something like:
    https://<sharepointsite>/lists/<listname>
whereas for the external list is something like the following:
     https://<sharepointsite>/lists/<listname>/item/template.xsn
Trying to overcome the problem I installed SharePoint 2013 Enterprise on premise using the VM from the Windows Azure Gallery. In this case the error I get when I try to publish with InfoPath
    Designer 2013 is the following:
The following URL is not valid:
    http://<sharepointsite>/lists/<listname>/item/template.xsn
and of course everything works fine with InfoPath Designer 2013 and regular SharePoint lists.
Even if I believe the problem is in general with external list and InfoPath, my external list is based on a the "Product" table from the "AdventureWorks2012" sample database
installed on SQL Azure and connected to SharePoint via Business Connectivity Services.
    A big
thanks in advance to anyone who is able to
provide useful information to solve the problem!!!
    Regards,
    Fabio

    Hi Folks,
Same issue here for any external list. We've migrated from 2010 to 2013 - it used to be fine on 2010. 2013 seems hang after 'getting site column information' then nothing. All effected users can quick publish to regular sharepoint lists, but cannot to external
    lists.
In our situation we are trying to quick publish to sites using the 2010 look and feel in a 2013 environment. using SharePoint Designer 2013 and InfoPath 2013.
