Sharing a date-prompted report between dashboards and ibots

I have a report that has a single filter which is an "is prompted" date filter. I use it in conjunction with a calendar dashboard prompt when displaying the reports on a dashboard, and the dashboard prompt has a default value that references a repository variable called "yesterday", which is a datetime datatype. Well, I want to schedule this report to be executed and emailed by an ibot, and the ibot execution of the report should always be for "yesterday". Furthermore, whatever solution I come up with to accomplish this, it must be able to be reapplied to report after report after report by much less technical BI end users than myself. So I'm thinking that if I can create a saved filter, no matter how complex to create, that can be easily added to all such reports by the end users, that would seem to be ideal.
i've tried to exhaustively go down a road of effecting a logical NVL() in an "Advanced SQL Filter" of the report using syntax along the lines of this, but I can't quite get it working. This is the closest I came to getting it to work:
"Dates and Times"."Transaction Date" = @{VALUEOF("TransactionDate")}{VALUEOF("yesterday")}
In the above example, "TransactionDate" is a presentation variable set by the dashboard prompt, and "Dates and Times"."Transaction Date" is a DATE datatype in the repository. Anyway, the above generates no error in either the dashboard with a prompt, nor in the "Results" tab of the Answers report-writing webpage (which I'd imagine simulates an iBot since the dashboard prompt is missing). However in both cases, "yesterday" is unconditionally used, and the "TransactionDate" presentation variable is ignored. In other words, everything works fine, except that when I select different values from the dashboard prompt, yesterday's data is still displayed. Argh!
I've seen a lot of threads & blogs online that seem close to this problem, but no cigar in the long run. any and all suggestions are so welcome. I'm ready to tear my hair out... :)

Okay, let's see if I understand this correctly. You want to use a report in an iBot and for this you want the Transaction Date to always be for "yesterday." You also want this report in a dashboard and you want the default to be "yesterday" but you want the users to be able to override this by selecting another date from the dashboard prompt. If yes, then proceed; else explain again.
First, you need to create a repository variable (not a presentation variable!) in the rpd called "yesterday."
In the dashboard prompt, for the Default Value, click on "Server Variable," click on the ellipsis and type "yesterday." This will default the dashboard prompt to "yesterday." Use the "drop down" type and save this to the presentation variable pvTransDate.
You will need to build two reports, one for your iBot and one for your dashboard.
For the iBot report, click on the Transaction Date column filter button and, after converting the filter to SQL, type this:
"Dates and Times"."Transaction Date" = TIMESTAMPADD(SQL_TSI_DAY,-1, SYSTDATE).
Schedule your iBot and you report will always be for "yesterday."
For the dashboard report, make a copy of the report above. For this report, you will need to add the PV piece and delete the TIMESTAMPADD filter.
Click on the Transaction Date column filter button, click on Add>Variable>Presentation, and type pvTransDate.
When the report is viewed in the dashboard, the report will initially be filtered by the "yesterday" repository variable. When the user selects a value from the dashboard prompt, it will filter the report for that.

  • Definition of the best approach on how to do reporting between BPC and BW

    Hi,
I need your opinion in the definition of the best approach on how to do reporting between BPC and BW.
For example if we want to do reporting using BW on Actuals Vs Budget how should we manage this since technically BPC Model and BW InfoCube is different?
BPC Models have the Budget and BW has the actuals, but the InfoObject that is used for Account is different. What is the best approach to do the reporting?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Gersh
I already thought in that option, but the problem is the Yellow requests in the Infocube that are not used by VP.
In the past I used Report RSAPO_CLOSE_TRANS_REQUEST_ALL3 in the virtual function module to close the requests, but now I didn't want to use VP based on function module.
Is there any option to use data in Yellow requests in VP based on DTP?
    Best regards,

  • Date Prompts Issue using Calender and Presentation Variables

    Hi All,
This is what the requirement is...
I need to create a two prompts (from_date and to_date) on a date column so that I can filter the data using a between condition. This is how I am doing
I have created two prompts (edited the formula) and passing the values to two presentation variables var_from and var_to. And in the report I am limiting the request on the using between operartor for both the presentation variable. Everything is working fine but the issue is that I need to display var_from and var_to in my report also.
I am referencing both the variables as '@{var_from}' and '@{var_to}' but I am getting both the columns as blank. I am really not sure why I am getting blank values for both these columns only when I am able to filter my report successfully on the basis of date values in the prompts ...
Just to metion ..in my database I have values in the format m/d/yyyy only. Hence I am able to use the calender successfully
Any help on this would be much appreciated...
    Thanks
    -Ronny

    Ronny,
Are you seeing blanks in answers ? Id expect this, but on the dashboard, when you set the filters , you should see the values coming through?
You can extend the syntax of the pres variable and provide a default value, so when working in answers you can see what it looks like,
    something like @{var_from}{'01-Jan-2010'}
Also you can reference the variables in the title, subtitle or narrative views if you wish.

  • After installing lion, my computer switches constantly between dashboard and current screen

I installed lion this morning and my screen switches rapidly between the dashboard and current screen, initially i thought it was my mouse, but after changing mouse I still get this issue and when my computer has been out of use for a while, i have to "erase" the screen to get to my login, any ideas?

After restarting your computer, try booting into the "recovery HD" by holding down Option at startup and try re-installing Lion. I had the Same problem when I installed Lion but that fixed it.
Rember: back up your data first through time machine so you can restore to the backup once you get Lion reinstalled.

    Reverse the order.
You generally specify a range from LOW to HIGH. Or in dates, EARLIER to LATER.
    You've done the reverse.
Basically instead of saying "Pick a number from 1 to 10", you said "Pick a number from 10 to 1".
    with xx as
       ( select to_date('25-jun-2013', 'dd-mon-yyyy') d from dual union all
select to_date('20-jun-2013', 'dd-mon-yyyy') d from dual union all
select to_date('15-jun-2013', 'dd-mon-yyyy') d from dual union all
         select to_date('05-jun-2013', 'dd-mon-yyyy') d from dual
    Select d

  • Navigate from report to dashboard and  pass values between different column

    Hello
I have a question about navigating from 1 report to a dashboard page while passing the value from column 1 to column 2 in the second report...
In OBIEE 11G, I create action link on report 1, column 1 and this action link is navigate to BI Content and the destination is a dashboard page, which has column 2 used as dashboard prompt and there are 3 reports all use column 2 to filter. Now the column 2 in the dashboard page is an alias of column 1 from report 1, from user's point of view they are the same, but from OBIEE point of view they are different.
My action link is able to navigate to dashboard, however, the value in column 1 which I clicked to execute the navigation, does not get passed to column 2 as the dashboard prompt doesn't get this value upon navigation..
Since I can't put column 1 in dashboard 2 nor can I put column 2 in report 1. Because our data model is done in the way that if I use column 1 or column 2 in both places, it will be circular joins...
Is there a way around this issue?
Let me know if I need to provide more clarification
    Thanks

    Sid
    Here is the thing..
Let's say we have Dimension 1, dimension 2 and fact 1 and fact 2
In one report, you need to show Dimension 2 and fact 1 so Dimension 2 joins to fact 1.
In some other cases, you need to shown dimension 1 and fact 2 stuffs, but dimension 1 can't get to fact 2 without going through dimension 2. So Dim 1 --> Dim 2 --> Fact 2
Then in some other cases, you need to show Dim 1 and Fact 1 reports..
In means, your model will look at:
Dim1 --> DIm2 and Dim 1 --> Fact 1 and Dim 2 --> Fact 1.. This is just a simpler version of a much more complex model that I am dealing with now..
So in this case, you can't just use Dim 1 attributes across the board. For some dashboards, you will have to create alias of Dim 1, call it A1_Dim1, un-join Dim1 with Dim 2 or to fact 1 to avoid circular joins... Then in different reports, you either use columns from Dim 1 or A1_Dim1..
Now Dim1 and A1_DIM1 are really the same thing, but they are not according to OBIEE...
So my problem is, in report 1 where Dim1 is used, it can't past values to Dashboard 2 where A1_DIM1 is used as dashboard prompt..
I want to know if there is a way around this issue
Hope this makes more sense now
    Thanks

  • Prompt scope between dashboards

I have several dashboards with the same prompt.
User have to re-select his prompt filters each time he move between the dashboards, since the prompt can be only in the scope of certain dashboard.
How can make it in the scope of all my dashboards?
I considered using presentation\session variable to save the selection and then in the request criteria ask 'is equals to' variable instead of 'is promt'.
The problem s that I have multi selection prompts.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
No, if it is a multi-select prompt, you can not re-use the inputs across multiple dashboards. But my question is, if the prompt is same that means it is coming from the same subject area. Thus the reports where the column is prompted also comes from the same Subject Area. Then why can't we have those different dashboards converted as dashboard pages under the same dashboard. I understand there might be access restrictions, but you can control access at Dashboard Page level also.
Please let me know if this workaround works.
    Thanks,
    Nabhanil

  • Extract data on report between last 30 days from current date.

    Hi Experts,
Ealrier i had provided user promt to select the date range, now i need to schedule the report for this i have to set the date between last 30 days from current date.
How can i add this in formaula on record selection.
    before:
    {pm_process.pm_creation_date} in {@Start Date to UTC} to {@End Date to UTC}
    I tried:
    {pm_process.pm_creation_date} in CurrentDate() - 30 to CurrentDate()
But this is diplaying me only data of 30th date from current date.
    Please advice.

    Hi Brian,
    Thank you!
    1. I have not created any function for {pm_process.pm_creation_date} in [CurrentDate() - 30 to CurrentDate()] i am just adding this on Record Selection and its not helping.
    2. {pm_process.pm_creation_date} in Last30Days; this is throwing below error.
please advice what to be done?

  • Sharing complex substitution variable values between ASO and BSO databases

We have ASO and BSO Essbase database member names with spaces in, and need to store some of these member names in substitution variables. However, this has to be done differently for ASO and BSO, due to calc script syntax requiring double quotes and MDX requiring square brackets. For example:
    ASO:
    &CurWeek value = Week 1
    MDX: [&CurWeek]
    BSO:
    &CurWeek value = "Week 1"
    Calc Script: &CurWeek
As a result, the substitution variables cannot be shared between the ASO and BSO cubes, since the BSO variable value requires double quotes due to the space in the member name.
Is there a way to get the above to work with both ASO and BSO? Can the double quotes be escaped in calc script syntax? Or can the double quotes be removed in the MDX formula?

    Hi TimG,
Apologies for such a late reponse to this, genuinely haven't had a spare second to reply until now!
Yes, I suspect a complex alias name may be the best solution here, and to remove the spaces from the actual member names.
I was not aware of the latter part at all. My colleague has confirmed as much on this too - DBAG 11.1.2.1 pp117 & 118:
"Note: If a substitution variable value is numeric or a member name starting with a
numeral or containing the special characters referred to above is to be used both
in MDX and non-MDX situations, create two substitution variables, one without
the value enclosed in quotation marks and one with the value in quotation marks."
"To ensure that a new substitution variable value is available in formulas, partition definitions,
and security filters, stop and restart the application. All other uses of substitution variables are
    dynamically resolved when used."
This last paragraph is the most concerning since we were planning to be able to update substitution variables values and then access the new values from calc scripts and formulae instantaneously. This quirk is unexpected and a little inconvenient. We may have to look at scheduling a change of substitution variable value overnight, followed by a stop/start of the app ready for the next day, and to work around needing to access changed values instantly.

  • Data Transfer methods between FPGA and RT

I have 10 values that I combined into a cluster that I want to send to the RT controller.  The problem is if I just the read/write FPGA, I only get 1/10th of the data.  I am assuming that it is the time taking to transfer from FPGA to RT.  So I looked into DMA FIFO.  When I use this, I do capture the data, but I notice jumps/shifts in the data.  It's almost like the buffer fills up, and then dumps it at the last sec. To reduce this, I went from 10 values from the cluster to 2, and there were not shifts/jumps.  The problem is I need all 10 values.  So I'm wondering if I need to increase my DMA FIFO or if there is another meathod I need to use like Shared Varibles?
    Thanks,
    guilio

The one thing I still don't understand is what you mean by this "jump" in your data. Can you be a bit more specific about this? What I mean by jump.  The elements coming from the FIFO in the RT controller will display on my array visual aid normally.  Then you will see the data jump. Here is an example.  I am bringing out 3 elements, X Y Z into an array.  I'll read lets say 9 elements at a time.  So my array, after I transform it into a 2D array for saving will look like this.  [x y z;x y z;x y z].  At some points in time, the array will jump and look like this. [x y z;z x y ;z x y].  Then it will go back to how I expect it to look [z x y;x y z;x y z].  Right now, I am reading ~3000 elements.  The elements remaining depends on what else is going on.  If the visual aids are deleted, then elements remaining will never max out and thus, I won't get jumps.  If I put visual aids in, then I get jumps because elements remaining maxes out.  This leads me to believe that the FIFO is filling up and since it can't release all the information fast enough, then it just dumps it and fill it up again.  The weird thing about it, It doesn't happen in a pattern (every 3000 elements).  I tried putting them in seperate loops, it still slows things down.  I tried queing/dequeing, still slows it down.  I need to be able to read all elements fo all 3 DMA transfers at once.   Maybe it will help us locate the problem.  Otherwise, your DMA FIFO looks OK.  Can you verify the number of times your data is written to the FIFO from the FPGA? When I put a clock in to measure loops speed, it was showing 8-9us.  I can't have this no more than 10us or I will missed data. I would like to see a definite count of this.  Then on the RT side, what does the "Elements Remaining" output look like?  As before, elements remaining depends on what else is going on.  If I just have the DMA FIFO's, then I can adjust the read elements number so all three don't max out, but as soon as I put something else in, it will max out.  Since this is a FIFO we should be able to keep very close track of elements in and out.
Let me know if you need more info.  I know about the FXP point transfer, unfotunately, not all my FXP elements are the same data type.
    Thanks,
    guilio

  • Change in Prompt definition between R2 and R3

We are upgrading our BO environment from R2 to R3 we found that the universe conditions change
    @Select(Vw Tt Site Visits Facts\Monitor) IN @Prompt('Enter Monitors','A','Vw Tt Site Visits Facts\Monitor',multi,free,not_Persistent,,USER:0)
    changed to
    @Select(Vw Tt Site Visits Facts\Monitor) IN @Prompt('Enter Monitors','A','Vw Tt Site Visits Facts\Monitor',multi,free,not_Persistent,{' '},USER:0)
In R3, {' '} was added. What this does is put a space as the default value and lets usersrun reports with having to select any value.
Any idea on how to implement the R2 code in R3?

For the enterprise SDK, download the developer guide from [http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/sdklibrary] and open it in your browser. There are links on the main page titled Migration Issues and What's new in the BusinessObjects Enterprise Java SDK which addresses your concerns. I assume the same is true for other SDK developer guides, but I use enterprise 99% of the time so I haven't checked.
