Sharing spfile across all instances in RAC

I am using Oracle 10g RAC database with two instances in Linux.
Each node has local ORACLE_HOME but I have configured ASM which is shared across both the nodes.
So which I start one instance say orcl1 it is pointing to an spfile which is local to that node inside $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/spfileorcl1.ora , but when I start the other instance say orcl2 it is pointing to a spfile located in ASM ( +DG_DATA/admin/spfileorcl.ora ) .
I want both the instances to point to the same spfile ( spfileorcl.ora where orcl is the name of the database ) in ASM ( +DG_DATA/admin/spfileorcl.ora ), Can this be done ?

Can this be done ?Yes. On both nodes, in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs, create an initorcl.ora file with following content :
SPFILE='+DG_DATA/admin/spfileorcl.ora'

  • How to synchronize a method for all instances of a class

    Hi,
    How to make a method synchronized for all instances of a class? If a simple method is synchronized, then multiple threads cannot access it at the same time. If we make the method as static, then we are making it synchronized at class level.How to make a synchronized method so that no two instances (objects) of a class can access it at the same?
    Thanks
    Neha

    Neha_Khands wrote:
    There is nothing wrong with that. Actually this question was asked in an interview. They didnt want to create a static method. They told me that synchronization can be achieved at instance level also. and for that we have to call some Class.getInstance().synchronied method inside constructor. Kind of a dumb question. First, synchronization does not occur "at a class level" or "at an instance level." Syncing is always the same--a single object's lock is obtained, which prevents any other threads from obtaining that lock. The only thing that makes it appear that there are special cases is that declaring a method synchronized obtains the lock associated with the instance or with the Class object for that class. But that's just syntactic sugar. The Class object lock is identical to the instance lock, which in turn is identical to a lock on some other arbitrary Object created just to serve as a lock. There's no such things as "locking the class" or "locking the instance."
    Second, and more important, making an instance method synced across all instances is a grotesquely artificial situation, IMHO, and if it were to ever come up, the right way to do it is to have that instance method call a static synchronized method.

  • How can I apply a database change across many instances concurrently?

    In support of a nationwide imaging application that will place HP UNIX servers housing Oracle instances in over 100 offices across the country, we're looking for the most efficient way to apply (distribute, execute, and validate) our database releases to all Oracle instances on the same day. Given a limited number of DBAs (3 or 4) and such a large number of instances located throughout the country, an automated solution is mandatory. Is there a tool or methodology available to handle this task?
    Assumptions: the database structure across all Oracle instances will be identical and each database release (series of SQL scripts) will be consistent across all instances.
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for your response. We're looking for a solution that will allow us to apply changes to the database structures (tables, indexes, procedures, privileges, tablespaces, etc...) via DDL without changing the underlying data. Each of the sites we'll need maintain will have their own unique data. Replicating the data is not an option. We are in search of a solution that allows us to apply a database structure change across many sites at one time without updating the underlying data.

  • Cluster installation failed:OCR files are not shared across all nodes

    Hi gurus,
    I'm trying to install RAC 10g using vmware following hunter document to install oracle 10g Rac.
    I'm using centos 4.6 ,I'm now stuck on installing cluster which shows error OCR file are not shared across all nodes.
    Please advice

    Review the Release notes, there is a bug and a fix since CRS fails on the last node.
    This bug is for EL 5, but pretty match what I've found on the log files
    I'm also in EL 4.6, x64 in my case.. haven't tried the fix due lack of time.
    Provide log files from CRS_HOME/logs

    When you enable Photo Stream on your devices, only new photos you take or import to those devices will be automatically added to your Photo Stream. Existing photos won't.

  • Rconfig: converting a single instance to RAC instance

    Hi,
    I am trying to use the "rconfig" utility to convert a single instance to a RAC instance in an existing RAC cluster.
    I have modified the .xml file, and am trying to run the conversion from the 1st node in the 2 node cluster (where the single instance resides).
    The only error message i seem to be getting is below:
    <Response>
    <Result code="1" >
    Operation Failed
    </Result>
    <ErrorDetails>
    ORCL_DATA_ORCLCLN The specified diskgroup is not mounted.
    </ErrorDetails>
    </Response>
    </Convert>
    </ConvertToRAC></RConfig>
    Now I dont really understand why I would be getting that message as the instance is up and running and ASM disk group is mounted on node1 at the time i run the rconfig command, though its not clear to me if I also need to somehow mount the ASM disk group on the second node prior to running the rconfig command??
    node1:

    I have attached the output of the alert log during the rconfig conversion of the target database, but it all looks pretty standard to me (keep in mind i am an oracle novice!).

    Ok,
    So I managed to get the disk group mounted on the second node, and re-ran the rconfig process.
    I got a little further, but encountered another error which is displayed below:

    obsolete and/or deprecated parameter(s) in initDB.ora file. To find out which you could from SQL*PLUS, issue the following statement, to find the sinner.

  • Crystal 10 server to bo xi 3.1 not all instances

    I have used the import wizard to pull the reports across into BO XI 3.1 on server 2003. I get the reports and folders but not all the existing instances of the reports. There are 480 + reports and alot of instances all of which are needed.
    Has any one done this migration and get all the historic instances?

    If you use the import wizard to bring in the reports, there is an option when you get to the 'Folders and objects' selection tool.  Right below the 'Select All' and 'Clear All' buttons, there is a checkbox which states 'Import all instances of each selected object'.  This should select all of the instances for the objects selected. One thing to note:  It will not import instances that failed to run.  You can check the log after the import to see what failed and why after the import.  This should give you an idea of what you may have to do on your XI 3.1 environment in order to capture the instances desired.

  • Sharing Photos across Network - Features Of

    Hi
    I want to share my Library across the network with other users. I also want them to be able to copy and paste my pictures or atleast save them and also to be able to Search them.
    I've tried this with 2 machines running iPhoto 5.04 and also 2 running 6.0.2 but I can't copy and paste unless I move the image from the Shared Album to the local Library and I can't search the Shared Library at all as it's greyed out.
    Anyone know if it's possible to do a Search on a Shared Library and how? (wherher apple supported or not)
    Thanks Matt
    Macs o Plenty   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Okay. I think I have the solution. As I read it, you have two issues. First, you need to be able to share. Second, you want to copy photos from one computer to the other.
    1. Go under the preferences section of iPhoto (under sharing) on the computer you want to share from and select "Share my photos". Make sure that you have either selected "Share Entire Library" or checked certain albums if you chose "Share Selected Albums." If you don't pick any albums with that option, nothing will show up on the other/destination computer.
    On the other computer, go to the preferences section of iPhoto (under sharing) and make sure the option to "Look for shared photos" is selected. If so, you should see the library from the sharing computer show up in your album list. You should now be able to browse all of the libraries on the sharing computer (or at least the ones you selected, if you did not choose to share all of them).
    2. To copy photos over to the library of the other computer (the one that is accessing the shared library of the first computer), select the photos that you want to add and drag them over to your library folder. iPhoto will start importing them for you.
    That should take care of it. Let me know if it does not. You would not normally need to open any ports on your router as long as both computers are on the same network.
    One more thing, if you want password protection, make sure to put a password under the sharing preferences for the computer you are sharing from.

  • SOA 11g  Composite Deployment across multiple Instances: Best Practice

    Hi,
    We have a requirement where we need to deploy the composite acrocss mutilple instances(DEV,TEST,Production) without JDEV.
    We are using SOA11.1.3.3(cluster) and linux OS.
    Pls suggest me what is the best practice to deploy the SOA composite.
    Thanks,
    AB

    Why there are different ways to deploy the composite in different environment? Depending upon the environment, it's business importance increases and hence access to developers get more restricted and hence there are many ways for deploying. If you are developing an application, you would not like to export a SAR and then login to EM console to deploy it. For a developer it is always very convenient to use IDE itself for deployment and hence JDev is preferably used for Dev instances for deployment.
    Once development finishes, developer will check in the artifacts into version control system and if you want to deploy to a test instance then you have to check out the stable version, compile it and package it and then only you can deploy. Hence for test instances, ANT is the preferable mode for deployment. (Remember that developers may not be able to connect to Test environment directly and hence deployment from JDev is not possible)
    Once a configuration gets tested in Test env, it's SAR should be checked in into version control system, so that it would not be required to recompile and repackaging of it. This will also make sure that any artifact which is not tested on Test instance, must not go to higher instances (like UAT/PROD). Now in Pre-Prod/UAT/Prod, you may simply access the EM console and deploy the SAR which is already tested in Test instance. Remember that there will be very limited access to such critical environments and hence using Role based access of EM it would be very easy to deploy the resources. Moreover, it is more secure mode of deployment because only those users which have appropriate priviledge, will be able to deploy, and it would also be easier to track the changes.
    What is the proc and cons if we use only one way to deploy the composite across the Instances...As such there is no major pros and cons. You may use EM for all environments but it may be a little discomfort for developers/deployers of test environment. You may also use ANT for all the environments but it is not suggested until and unless you have a very good and secure process in place for deployments.

  • Co-Loc versus Dedicated In-Role Cache - both available to all instances?

    Trying to confirm that this is true. The only real difference between the co-located and dedicated in-role cache is that the co-located shares the memory with the role whereas the dedicated uses all the memory of the role. I'm assuming that even in a co-located
    cache the cache is synced and not per instance? Meaning if I set up a co-located cache on my web role and that role has multiple instances, the cache will be the same for all instances (objects added to cache from one instance would be available in all instances).
    Dan

    Hi,
    We can see this from Role Cache FAQ (Windows Azure Cache).
    Here is a snippet.
    What is the difference between co-located and dedicated Caching topologies?
    There are two main ways a role can host In-Role Cache: co-located and dedicated. In the co-located topology, the role that hosts In-Role Cache also hosts other web role or worker role functionality. The memory and resources of the role are shared between
    caching and non-caching application code and services. In the dedicated topology, which is supported for worker roles, the worker role only hosts caching. These Cache topologies differ primarily in the percentage of memory that is dedicated to Cache. For more
    information, see the topics on co-located Caching roles and
    dedicated Caching roles.

  • Changing site collections logos across all site collections

    HI All,
    I need to change the logo across all site collections, which are around 300-400, so don't intend to do this manually.
    My question is, will simply replacing the current logo in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\TEMPLATE....
    with the logo I want to change to, and naming it exactly the same as the current logo, not achieve this?
    I have searched online and people run PS to achieve this, but in my head the above seems to be work, please correct me?
    Thanks

    I completely agree with Alex and not suggest to touch/change root folder. Initially it might looks easy but it may create issue.
    My option is to BRAND the sites. Master page branding is not a new concept and it mainly use for unanimous look and feel
    Look at below links which will help you to explore about branding

  • Log In to Disco Plus and see all reports across all responsibilities

    Hi,
    I've got a user that has multiple different responsibilities with different reports shared with each of them. When using Discoverer Plus they have to use the 'connect to' screen to log into each responsibility separately to view their reports. Is there any way of letting them see all of their reports available across all responsibilities at once?
    Thanks,
    Neal

    Hi Neal
    I am sorry but this is not possible , at least out of the box. Access to EBS data is controlled via responsibilities and those responsibilities typically do not cross over functional areas. Your reports will all be shared at the responsibility level making it doubly difficult.
    I have been giving some thought as to how this be made to could work and here are my thoughts.
    1. Create a new responsibility, just for Discoverer
    2. Grant the new responsibility the other responsibilities
    3. Grant a selected user or group of users access to this new responsibility
    4. Log in to Discoverer using the new responsibility
    I'm making the assumption that responsibilities are cumulative, just like database roles, and if this is true then the above should work.
    Best wishes

  • Sharing context across views

    Hi.
    Each of the individual views (10+) in my WebDynpro application needs to know and display the same employee
    information about the logged-in user. Further, the user can enter the application from any one of the views. And once the application is entered, the user will likely visit several of the views.  My project structure is simple in that all of the views are contained within a single component.  To move from view to view, my code is invoking navigateAbsolute to another portal pcd location (iView) that invokes the target WebDynpro view.  By doing this, the portal navigation and the Webdynpro application orientation stay in sync.
    My goal is to store this shared information such that the application <u>only needs to retrieves the employee information ONCE per user session</u>.  In a J2EE application this type of information is generally stored in "session".
    Here are my questions:
    1. Do I need to store this employee information in a context "node", not a "value"?  Basically, how and where do I store this information to make it available across all views within the application?
    2. How do I programmatically check if a previous view has already invoked the RFC and populated the data in the shared session area?
    Thank you!
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,
       <i>1. Do I need to store this employee information in a context "node", not a "value"? Basically, how and where do I store this information to make it available across all views within the application?</i>
      You can store this information as a value node in the component controller's context. By doing so all your views can access this value.
       <i>2. How do I programmatically check if a previous view has already invoked the RFC and populated the data in the shared session area?</i>
        You can check if the node size is zero or if it contains any elements. So once you have invoked the RFC, you will have to add a new element to this value node.
