Shoot me now!

Tried to upgrade to 3.1.1 (already had 3.0)or whatever it is.. failed .. and got the plug into itunes screen. Go to do a restore to original state and it fails with error 1604. During process when itunes says "preparing ipod" the touch flashes white for a half a sec, and then goes to a black (but on) screen. Apple phone rep unable to help. Drive 1 hour to the Apple store for my appointment, (an hour drive home after that). The guy at the Genius Bar, replaces my 32GB 2nd Generation Touch, but doesnt put the software update on it( the phone rep said he would), because it would take to long since all there computers were updating thru one switch. Reluctantly took the new touch home with 2.1.1 or whatever software on it. Genius told me to remove all apple programs and files on my computer, and the download everything again. I do this. Plug in itouch to get the 3.0 update and the exact samme problem happens again. Fails. Bricked touch. Only have had one for a month, and they gave me a new one today, and now its bricked too. I have spent about $300 on apps, lol, im addicted... and now i dont have anything. Have spent about 12 hours of the past 24 on this. Any ideas? Anyone else experienced this, "the quick flash of screen and then blackness"? I do plan on calling apple again, and making another appt with a store!!! ARRRRRGGGHHHH

Error 1604 is usually a usb timing issue.
Are your usb ports 2.0 speed? If not, I would try on a different computer if you can. You only need to get it thru the restore and update. You can then connect back to your computer to re-sync your info back to it.
If you need to, Try these steps:
First, here is an article with the error you're talking about:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275
It will have some of the following steps.
Uninstall iTunes,
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
(there are at least 4 different components to itunes that need to be uninstalled)
When you're done, you will need to restart your computer.
Now, before reinstalling iTunes, temporarily disable all anti virus and firewalls. (Some can interpret iTunes as a virus and cause many issues.)
Re-install iTunes,
Just go to apple.com/downloads
Be sure you select to "run" the download and the installation.
After the installation is done, connect your ipod.
If it won't allow the restore, try this:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Note: If you are able to restore the ipod, iTunes will give you 2 choices. One is to setup as a new ipod and the other is to restore from backup. Do Not Restore From Backup. This will only previous the previous software problem back on the iPod.
The best option though, with that error, is trying on a different computer with faster ports.
Good luck, hope this helps.

  • RAW vs. JPEG - Shooting JPEG now due to Aperture versioning?

Given that the majority of the advantages in favor of RAW vs. JPEG are due to internal camera processing and issues due to compound "saving" of the images, I'm wondering if most of the disadvantages of shooting JPEG have been eliminated by the versioning provided by Aperture?
Assuming that any camera that products RAW images can be set to produce high resolution, minimally compressed, minimally sharpened and minimally camera processed images, has the playing field been substantially leveled?
Since using Aperture, do you find yourself shooting JPEG instead of RAW now, even though Aperture simplifies your RAW workflow?

    Hey,
I have no problem with anyone photographing in the format they wish. My concern is that people simply don't know what they are talking about, i.e. the 8-bit to 16-bit conversion as stated previously in this thread exemplify this.
I am a professional photographer who previously shot only jpg, and I accomplished most of my work without software manipulation. There are techniques that allow one to do that. However, I slowly switched over to RAW as the converters improved, i.e. Capture One Pro and Apterure, because of the amazing potential that RAW allows a photographer.
I just find it interesting that people would use such a powerful tool as Aperture in such a way and let that power go to waste. The whole point of having Aperture is to decrease the time and effort of the RAW process. Why waste it on jpg images that can only be manipulated to a minimal extent.
Of course, there are appropriate times to shoot jpg and appropriate times to shoot RAW, and of course times when you shouldn't. A photographer will have both jpg and RAW files located within his Aperture library. This is a given. I just find that there are very few instances justifying the use of only jpg.
The issue of whether to use jpg or RAW has long been argued among photographers. Mr. Rockwell is one who is definitely on the jpg side of things. Personally, I disagree with most of his viewpoints and I find it very easy to counter the statements he makes. But, we are all entitled to our opinions.
As for the remark in this thread of "what did we do before RAW," well, "we" worked to get the image just right and we used many different techniques and processes both pre-shooting, shooting, and post-shooting to get what we envisioned. RAW simply makes it easier to accomplish this. That's all! It's a tool to be used. Honestly, it's no different than any other tool that comes along and replaces older ones. I love to write letters to friends. Although I could sit and scribe a letter using an inkwell and feather and send it by pony express, I choose to type it and send it electronically. Why? Because it's more convenient.

  • TS3297 I have installed, reinstalled, repaired, retarted and followed all trouble-shooting tasks; Now I am getting "Apple Supprt Application not found: error 2(Windows 5). Please uninstall and reinstall itunes.  I have done that. It is listed in my progra

I am trying to install itunes on my computer (Windows Vista).  After initial instillation I got an error  42404 A required itunes componenet is not installed; please repair or re-intall itunes and error 50, cannot access itunes store at this time.  Please try later. I have done that multiple times; uninstalled all components, reinstalled all components, repaired all components, restarted my computer.  I have changed firewall settings to allow acess to all of the apple components.  I have made sure the required ports are open.  All of the components are showing on the installed programs section of my control panel.
I am now getting an error message that says that Apple Support Application is not found error 2 (windows 5).  It is listed in the installed programs and I have repaired it.
I am out of options.  And help would be appreciated.

'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Somebody shoot me now

Wow, I have never had so much trouble with an application in my life. This really surprised me from Apple. iDVD 8 is so darn glitchy. I'm sick of it. It is unresponsive, slow, quirky, I constantly have to quit it and relaunch to get it to open projects and I have GOBS of free space.......I could go on and on. I was in love with my iMAC until this application. I'm considering upgrading to iLIFE 9 but what the heck, the only application I enjoy is iPHOTO and why spend all that money for a few more features. If I thought iDVD would be better, I might upgrade but I fear I will only be more frustrated. Falling out of love with my first MAC....

    Hi
iDVD is the same in iLife 09 as in 08 (iDVD vers 7.0.x) There was no upgrade here
iPhoto got some new features - Faces is one of them - most probably drug classed soon.
Dangerously fun to just add one more face to it's face library - suddenly 3-4 hours later.
iMovie has got some new features. My need of restore to iMovie HD 6 quality still lack of
    • Full quality on interlaced standard 4x3 video (now only using every second line)
    • Timeline - the improvment is slightly better but not one start left end right
    without several lines
    • Video back via FireWire to Camera and Live to a TV via an A/D-box
    • All Your invested plug-ins of no use
It's to much to put me off near all of these are OK in FinalCut any version.

  • Shoot me, Shoot me now... -.-

    Long story:
Went to sleep one day, woke up the next, Computer un-responsive, so i re-boot my pc. Here was where terror struck!
My GF4 WAS HAVING SERIOUS PROBLEMS
#1) No V/C Bios Screen "nVidia GeForce4 Ti 4400 128mb DDR" blah blah blah.
#2) Sparkles, WONDERFULL SPARKLES all over the screen, little colums of pure PROBLEM down my screen, and my heart on the floor withering away.
If i can find a pic host, i can show you a picture.
So i open the case, the HEATSYNC is burnt, mainly on the areas where it's not contacting the chip.
Here's the real problem: the 30 day re-sales warranty is up, and my mom (being so motherly and tidy) 'accidentally' chucked out my gf4 box that had my warranty card in it.
My question here is... can I talk to MSI and still get a replacement? or am i SOL and $385 in the hole?
    Please note:
    -I never Overclocked this card
-I have excelent air-flow/cooling in my P4 box (case temp about 30-45 degrees C
And lastly, could this be the "imfamous moisture problem" that my friend suggested it might be, if so.. how can i fix this?

i have a 350W dual fan enermax powersupply
    i think im good

Why is "Console" "Diagnostic and user messages" now dominated by Safari messages?
I have randomly used Console over the years for trouble shooting, and now find it to be virtually worthless.
Both "All Messages" and "Diagnostic and Usage Messages" are now dominated by messages from Safari.
I do have the "Develop" menu displayed so that I can periodically "Empty Caches" since that option is no longer available otherwise.

  • Is DNG conversion during Tethered Shooting Possible?

Previously, using a Canon 5D MkII  and lightroom 2  I could shoot to a hot folder which Lightroom would watch, convert the images to DNG and add them to my catalog.
I love that Tethered Shooting is now part of Lightroom but unfortunately I can't seem to find anywhere to set up a recipe or parameters for the import and can only convert the files to DNG in post.... bit of a waste of time isn't it?
Am I missing something.... I sure hope there will be more options in tethered shooting in the final release.  I have had to use Capture One to do Tethered shooting on Jobs but hate that I can't import the corrections into Lightroom.  I was really hoping to circumvent C1 and save a bunch of time.
If it's not there, please add DNG conversion on the fly and keep my files in LR rather than C1

Right now, when tethered, Aperture is preventing files from being written to the CF card in the camera (which I definitely don't want)
You have no control over that behavior. It's the way Aperture works when you are shooting tethered.
If I understand your question, it sounds like you are trying to use Aperture as a replacement/supplement for the LCD on the back of your camera. If so, is there a HDMI output on your 5DMKIII? Maybe you could attach that output to a monitor as a solution.
Message was edited to add question about HDMI.

  • Most of my equipment has toasted, and I need the data back.

I must have been a very, very bad person in a past life. This week has been more technologically harrowing than I'd thought possible.
My cherished Titanium Powerbook died after a valiant battle, and the Apple techs said that there was nothing they could do, Apple just doesn't support such antiques (not sure if they meant me or the PB). They did let me download my files onto my 80G Smartdisk FireLite, and though the PB hard drive was acting a bit wonky and transfer was slow, I got most of the files. Most everything already had been backed up on the FireLite, but I grabbed the remainder. This means that My Entire Life resided on the FireLite.
I was about to download the files onto the G4 cube, and plugged in a USB hub with an optical mouse and a jump drive on it--and something started to burn. The jump drive, the mouse, and the hub fried. Now it looks as though the well-named FireLite is toast too, since though it powers up, it won't mount and nothing recognizes it. The cube is fine.
I still have the hard drive from the late lamented Powerbook, so if it holds up a bit longer, I ought to be able to save most if not all the files. Can I do this myself if I can get an external case to power the PB drive? And if the PB drive does indeed hold up, could I continue to use it? (This would be helpful, since the MacBook Pro won't run Classic, which is necessary in the short term for all my current programs and most peripherals.)
If an external case is feasible, can someone give me specs for what to get? I'm hoping it's affordable, though I'd also look for one to borrow.
If it isn't feasible, would someone please shoot me now?
    Thanks.

    Hi A,
Just one thought to add: I would get a FireWire enclosure so if you ever want to clone an entire HD on a Mac, you would then have a secure backup which was also able to boot said Mac.

  • Elements 10 Suddenly will not open. Should I uninstall/deactivate and re-install or will I never be able to use it again? On windows 7 using parallels on Macbook Pro and never had this problem ever.

I ran trouble shooting and conflicts. It now keeps wanting me to switch to a different windows OS rather than 7 which is what I am running and how it worked previously. The only thing I have done in the last several days that may have freaked it out is downloading flash because my flash kept crashing in google chrome (i did days of trouble shooting before doing this. Thanks to Adobe I've used up about 4 days of non productive trouble shooting and now this!). It simply doesn't open anymore - not even an error message.
Just wanted to confirm that the next step should be deinstall/deactivate and then try to reinstall. But worried Adobe has rigged it so that only works if reinstalling on a different computer. Should I anticipate any problems in un & re install?

eventually prompts to select which version to use.
That person is misreading the prompt. It merely tells you that if you DO want to uninstall old versions, you should stop the install now and go do that first because the installer won't do it (and you really don't have to--you can uninstall later if you decide you no longer need the old version). It never says you MUST pick a version, although many people misread it to mean that.

  • How to load different modules in moduleLoader - some with other without unload?

Ok so I've read a lot about modules and I decided to build a site where I have a button bar menu and a single moduleLoader, where all of my pages are separate modules. Some of the modules will be preloaded with moduleManager technique so they will be in memory and should pop up instantly and others should be unloaded since they will be used rarely. Imagine you have 50 pages, 45 of them use the same 3 modules and the rest 5 use 5 other modules.
    So I need 2 things:
    1) those 3 modules preloaded (loaded into memory) and then used - this is not a problem. In the change handler of the button bar I just set the url of the moduleLoader=""; and right after that line I put moduleLoader.url = "module1.swf" for example. This way the ready event fires everytime I change the selected button of the buttonBar and since the module is loaded into memory it changes immediately, which is great.
    2) I need the rest 5 modules that are not preloaded, to be loaded by the moduleLoader and when the user clicks on another button, the module to be unloaded and the new module for the new selected button to be loaded on it's place. So here unloading of the old module and loading of the new one should happen with 1 user interaction - clicking a button. How do I do that?
I am asking this because I found out that there is some difference when the module has been preloaded or not which changes the way it unloads. Also in certain cases if a module has been unloaded once and loaded again it stops shooting the unload event by only changing the moduleLoader.url and then you have to specifically call moduleLoader.unloadModule() function to get it called.
    And all of this brought me to the idea that maybe the only way to make this work for case 2 is having moduleLoader.unloadModule(); and on the next line after it moduleLoader.url = "newModuleUrlHere";
But then I bumped into a problem with flickering in my buttonBar selected button transition which I describe and give online example of here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/760347?tstart=0
So is there any technique of combining preloaded modules which should not be unloaded + the ones who need to be loaded and unloaded and all of this to be working with just one moduleLoader instance?
I really didn't expect to have so much trouble with modules... If no one can suggest me a working example I will post each case I described here to help me get resolution to this cause I can't get on with my project and it's very important.
    Thanks in advance!

Hi thanks for the reply here too
I agree it totally makes sense if I do not unload modules to load them in the same application domain and not as a child. This way I wouldn't have to worry about the singletons I could have forgotten to initialize in the main application If my logic is correct. But still is it wrong to leave them in a child ApplicationDomain since I will still have modules I will need to unload and I would still have to be careful about the singleton managers?
Note: have in mind I am trying to separate the module's from the main application, so the application won't use any classes defined in the modules since it won't be aware of what's in what module.
Yes, I do have a buttonBar buttons which map to module urls.
Ok I will try to setup my questions in a few very simple example applications, it would be easier for you to understand what's confusing me.
    http://filip.nedyalkov.net/moduleLoaderTesting2/ - view source enabled - look at testing3.mxml
In the button bar change handler I have:
    moduleURL = buttonBar.
    selectedItem.url;moduleLoader.url = moduleURL;
and I listen to the moduleLoader unload event.
    On the Unload Current Module Button I have: moduleLoader.unloadModule();
Ok what is confusing me is this: When I start switching between module1 and module2 do they automatically get unloaded because I recall reading that changing the moduleLoader.url property doesn't unload the module just releases it? Also I'm getting the unload event shoot very strange because if I am on module1 and then click on module2 it doesn't shoot that module1 was unloaded, it doesn't do anything. As soon as I click back on module1 then it shoot unloaded (you can see that in my example in the text area).
Another strange thing is that while doing this, everytime you click on module1 or module2 they get transferred over the network I can see that in mozilla firebug. Now if I am on module1 and click the Unload Current Module button the module really gets unloaded and then the unload event is correct and shoot when it's supposed to shoot. Now if you click on module2 and then come back to module1 it will get loaded again, but now it will be put in memory, it won't shoot unload event any more and it won't get transferred over the network when I switch the modules? Why is that ? All I did was unloading the module once and it changes everything.
So I hope you undertstand this cause I have no idea is this supposed to work this way? Would you be so kind to explain me this behaviour ?
    Thanks!

  • Lightroom 5.4 to Lightroom Mobile sync is soooo slow - why no local sync?

I am testing the new Lightroom 5.4 with Lightoom Mobile. What really annoys me is the fact that all photos are going up to the Creative Cloud. I have private pictures which should be private. Always. No upload. No Cloud sync. It is important!
Speed is the next major problem. LR 5 is way too slow for a fluid workflow. But this is mentioned from other users.
What absolutely makes me sad ist the sync speed of LR5.4 to LR Mobile. 100 Photos took up to 4 hours. On a typical wedding I have 2000+ images. Depending on the speed of the first 100 photos I have to wait 80+ hours? Are you kiddding me? This makes LR Mobile unusable. My clients are expecting results fast. Speed is one factor to the next contract.
Overall, I don't want to sync anything into the Cloud. I want a to use my fast local sync via WiFi or USB. Only those two options. I want to sync photos even without any internet connection successfully and quickly.
I'm fine with authentication with Adobe servers for licensing verification. But that's it. The rest should be configurable by the users whether they Cloud sync or not.

Tom, thank you for taking your time to come here and enlighten us with the decision making process behind what was done. Like it was said before here, the Lightroom Mobile so far has been very, very frustrating. I came home very excited to test it and make my dream come true. To be able to take my catalog (or a shoot) with me on the subway, etc and be able to choose the photos on my iPad. See, I am a photographer and I shoot mainly fashion and beauty, so my workflow starts as soon as I finish shooting by importing all images into Lightroom and then going through the painstaking process of choosing which picture to use. I would shoot anywhere between 5-12 looks in a day, around 100 photos per look and at the end of the process I need to choose only one photo from each look. This normally involves going back multiple times to be able to get to only one from each look. The LR Mobile would have been the perfect solution for me, making me able to look at photos while out of the office, on the subway, at home, etc. It would have made my editing process much faster (or less slow). Instead, I've been sitting and waiting for 6 hours so far and only 18 photos showed up on my iPad (from the 500+ that were chosen to be synced from my desktop LR. Now I know it's not my internet that is making it that slow because I have 80+Mbps of download and 40+Mbps upload. And that haven't helped me much as my LR is stuck on "Syncing 527 photos" for the last 5 hours. Most professional photographers that I know deal with a huge amount of photos from a photoshoot. Wedding, fashion, advertising, we all shoot 1000+ images in any given work day. To come home and have to wait 100 hours before we are able to edit on the iPad is just not useful. This will be useful for the amateur photographer that will take photos of their children/dog/flowers and want to be able to show their guests the photos without having to get them in front of the computer.
Now I understand what you said about having to have a centralized place so that all the clients up to date on the changes, and I think that is great but I also think that it's paramount that there's a different way of syncing, a faster, more efficient way. Even if it is, like mentioned, not a "everything in sync" solution. Something like sync the desktop to the iPad and only those two work together. If both are changed before the next sync, a "the 'blabla' catalog has been changed since you last synced, do you want to overwrite it?" takes care of the problem, much in the same way that Photoshop asks us when we are saving something that has been somewhat modified by some external agent between saves. But the beauty of shooting all day, loading everything in Lightroom at night at the hotel and in the morning catch your flight and edit your shoot on the iPad while traveling, or being able to show the clients on the iPad right after you shot the wedding, or (what I was dreaming was going to be possible just to have my dreams crushed when started to use it) shooting tethered on the job and giving the art director the iPad so that he/she can see the shots without having to stay in front of the computer during the whole shoot. Now THAT would be a game changer! That was what I was expecting from LR Mobile but unfortunately got disappointed. I'd pay for the app alone if it did that!

  • Events - Incorrect Dates after split

    Hi All
Wondering if you are having the same issues as I am, or can help....
I have a coupe of cases where I have split an event which took place over a couple of days (I imported the pictures on a specific day, but iPhoto did not create separate events for each days shooting).
Now that I have separate events, with photos spanning one day in each event, the displayed date as seen in the Events screen when you skim, is incorrect.
The displayed date will show something like 24 Dec 2006 - 12 March 2007, but the pictures in the event were only taken on the 24th December... Hope the above makes sense?
Does anyone know how to correct this? Selecting the 'change date & time' option (with events selected) only changes the date/time of all the pictures within the event but not the date of the event itself.
    Thanks and Regards
    Scott

Step one is to correct the date on the Photos as you did (You could have used the adjust date & time eature too)
Then open the event an dselect one photo and create a new event. This new event will have the correct date. Then drag the remaining photos (with correct dates) to the new event and you will ahve an event with the correct dates
I'm hoping that APple addresses this in the future but for now this seems to be the only way to get the event's attention to update the date range

  • Sorting by second in Adobe Bridge

For those of you familiar with sorting from multiple cameras in Bridge:
When sorting our wedding photos, I can't seem to get Bridge to sort the  Date Created down to the second. It is sorting to the minute, and with  two cameras firing at the same time, you can assume how out of whack  that makes the pics. Then I have to manually sort, which adds so much  time to my editing.
Here's a few things you should know:
My partner and I sync our cameras up to the second before every wedding. She shoots a 50D and I have a 7D.
Also, I've tried batch renaming the files with the specifics of date  time/date created/mmhhss and also millisecond and neither of those  worked.
    Any help would be appreciated!!
    Thanks so much!

Sorry for late responding, missed it earlier this week.
Using a 1DS3 and having had a shoot with a colleague with a 5D2. We where not accurate time synced (1 minute in between or so). Although therefore also not accurate in order but forgetting this and looking at the metadata info (IPTC core: Date created in metadata panel) it shows the time in hours, minutes and seconds and right sorted in date created. So Bridge does sort to the second and I'm not sure what you are missing.
My workflow, importing files from CF Card using Photodownloader. Convert the CR2 files to DNG, rename with shot date and sequence number (and adding metadata template plus back up original CR2 files).
When selecting the files they are in importing order (I have filename sort by default) using the date created sort order they are in correct timeline order and then can easily be renamed with an extra sequence number in front for easy sorting.
Only downside is that using PDL for ingestion sometimes when using burst shooting every now and then there are a few files from those bursts (high speed continuous) that do change there order but I suppose you don't shoot Hi Speed at a wedding
And you also did not mention what version you are using and if you have the recent update for that.
