Short ring with Ethernet enabled

My problem is that I only get one or two rings with ethernet enabled and connected at home. I am running iPhone 6 with iOS 8.2
I first thought, this was an issue with iOS 8.3 beta and reverted (painful, since backups do not work backwards.) But the problem persists.
I called AT&T. They had me disable LTE Voice and Data. That fixed it for a couple of calls. I disabled Data altogether. It did not change anything.
I disabled Hand Off. I made sure, all devices had Notifications turned on. No dice.
The only think that worked was turning of WiFi, which is not a good solution for all the data I use.
Fresh out of ideas on this. Does anybody have any others?

Looks like handoff is the current culprit! I clearly had the problem from other phones yesterday and reverted to 8.2.
Today, I did my testing with my second iPhone - both are linked via Handoff. It looks like that creates a problem. Calling from a landline seems to work.

Creating a Ring with Ethernet?? Rate Limiting

This is a two question topic. I am in an office building and I want to provide ISP services to people throughout the building. I have 5 2900XL switches with fiber gigabit ports for uplinking to each other. I will put one switch in each floor for clients to plug into, and run fiber from floor to floor.
Using the equiptment I have (i.e. -- not special SONET equiptment or anything), how can I create a redudant ring so that if the fiber is broken traffic will flow in the other direction? I know SONET will do this, but I don't want to buy special equiptment for that.
Also, please remember this will need to be at layer-2 since these are only layer-2 switches, so using dynamic routing to handle the redudancy is not an option.
Finally, each client will be put in their own VLAN. How can I rate limit the outbound traffic? For example, I may want to sell a 6Mbps service and charge more for it than a 3Mbps service.
Is there any way I can use what I have to do what I need? If not, what additional equiptment do I need to buy?

You can certainly daisy chain them into a ring type topology, and Spanning Tree Protocol will block one of the redundant links to prevent a loop.
A better, (but more costly design) would be to have two additional switches and dual home all of the 2900xl switches to the "core switches." That will give you redundancy as well as keeping traffic flow such that the 2900 switches aren't used as "transit" switches for devices communicating between non-contiguous switches. However, for 5 switches, this may be overkill :-)
As for rate limiting, the 2900XL series switches do not provide rate-limiting or policing features. They are fairly dumb Layer 2 devices and will not give you the option to limit the bandwidth on any port. The lowest-end switch that we currently sell that can do rate-limiting is the 2960.

Can't connect to Netgear router with WPA enabled (MBP)

I just received a Macbook pro today, everything is wonderful except wireless networking. When it first started up, it detected my wireless network, showed me the SSID, and asked for a password. I entered the password, and it failed to connect. I decided to try later and did the rest of the install.
I connected via cabled ethernet and downloaded all of the updates. For a machine that shipped from the Apple store (custom config) a few days ago, I was surprised at having 13 LARGE updates to download. Grabbed them all, including a Firmware update which required two reboots. One for everything else, and another for the firmware.
I tried again from sysprefs, and asked for the diagnostics. It asks me for my WEP key, and there is no option for WPA. I tried entered the WPA key anyway, despite only three WEP options showing up, and it still fails.
Going through the Airport 'tab' and editing the connection, I get an option for WPA Personal, Enterprise, WPA 2 Personal, and WPA2 Enterprise as well.
I tried using WPA Personal and WPA 2 Personal and entering the key which works on other notebooks, still no joy.

Which Netgear router do you have? I use the Netgear
RangeMax WPN824 and works well with WPA enabled but I
think it may have failed to work the first time.
WGT624 v2. Works fine with other wireless devices from a number of vendors, and is detected by the Mac, but I can't connect. I don't want to disable WPA if I can help it, I have a number of other systems configured for it as is, plus guests that come to visit.

UPDATE: Sure enough, I deleted the network and added it back in by manually specifying the SSID and password, and it works now. No idea why, but there it is... thank you very much.

Hi,
Newer versions of SAP GUI and R/3 include external controls called as ActiveX (OCXs). ABAP code internally issues some commands to flush and refresh these controls. Since, when using GuiXT and input scripting, these controls are not created, and ABAP dumps. Use keyword "Enable controls" (without quotes on a separate line) in a screen block that has an ActiveX control.

Error 0x00000709 Networked printer not working in a home network with HomeGroup enabled.

I should start by describing my network by device.
Gateway device - Motorola SB5120 SURFboard cable modem
Router/WAP device - Linksys Wireless G Broadband Router with 4 port Switch Model: WRT54G v4 Security: WPA2 with firewall.
Windows 7 Ultimate Desktop with Homegroup enabled (Printer driver installed & ethernet wired)
Windows 7 Pro Laptop set to homegroup for the Desktop (Ethernet wired and Wireless depending on the situation)
Windows 7 Home set to homegroup for the Desktop (Wireless)
Brother Printer Model: HL-2170W (Wireless)
HP Printer Model: HP Officejet 6500A Plus (Wireless)
What have I done?
Installed drivers on 2 of the 3 computers. The final computer (Win7 Home) was added in later and works fine when connecting to the internet through the WAP. However it does not even find the printer when trying to install the driver which is a part of the
process for driver installation for the Brother Printer.
I had set up the printer for two of the three computers and had it working at one time however in trying to get the printer set up for the final computer I somehow have messed up those settings.
During that setup I tried to move the printer to a networked printer (It was shared before and installed on the network with both the Desktop and the Win7Pro lappy able to print but it would not print for the new arrival to the Homenetwork. This caused
me to seek a solution which involved installing the proper driver in the Win7Home and the discovery that the driver installer could not find the Brother printer at all which prompted the moving of the printer to a networked printer.) (The Win7Home computer does
not find the HP printer either but that is a can of worms yet unopened.)
I am sure there are a few things that I did not do correctly and I may have left out some additional information which you may require. If I can help clarify this question please feel free to query me. I thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Short ring-like tone while iPhone is charging

While using the wall a/c unit for charging, my iPhone emits a short ring every 5 minutes. It doesn't make this sound while charging through a USB connection. I've restarted the phone a few times, but still have this issue. This is a problem at night while trying to sleep. Turning the phone to silent works, but then I may miss important calls.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Has anyone seen a resolution?

I haven't had the chance to thoroughly troubleshoot this issue, but the problem seems to occur only with a specific outlet in my kitchen. I've tried other cables, made sure there's a secure connection, but that outlet always causes the problem previously mentioned. My father-in-law is an electrician, so I'm going to have him check it out.
In my case, I don't think it's a problem with the iPhone. Although it'd be nice if the "charge" sound was included in the Settings so you can turn it off.

Issue with cisco ONS 15310. Slot with Ethernet ports, designed for bridging.

Hi, guys. I’ve got an issue with cisco ONS 15310 sdh optical network. I’ve got a special slot with Ethernet ports, designed for bridging. Assume, we’ve got to multiplexers, named A and B with ports A0 and B0 respectively. The ios console of these slots says, the configuration is as follows:
no ip address set on these ports
Ports are administratively up
Auto mdix
Bridge groups are the same on these ports.
Dot1q tunnel.
I’m trying to monitor a device with an ip-address connected to port B0. It answers ping if I connect the notebook directly to a device. But if I connect the notebook to port A0 and ping the device pluged in port B0 through the optical network, it doesn’t answer. I tried connections with straight and cross cable.
Guys, who set the network said, it should work as a point to point bridge with no extra configuration. But it doesn’t. I used wireshark sniffer to lookup what’s happening on port A0. All I see is cdp-s from port A0 and self-announcements of the notebook.
Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

TS2570 I have MacBook Air late 2011 with encryption enabled the mac froze so I just shut it down by pressing the power button .But the when I tried booting the gray screen appeared nothing else

I tried all steps but nothing helped. Worse than that only the pram key combination works I cant get the cmd-r or just alt or any combination to work??? Any suggestions would help. Thanks!
P.s. I am on mountain lion with ssd encryption enabled. The mac froze when the internet stopped the one from the cable (I use ethernet usb one) when I turned wifi on it froze. I have disconnected everything when trying the steps except power cable.

Boot into Internet Recovery (command-option-R at the startup chime) and try to repair the boot volume in Disk Utility. You will have to unlock the volume before you can do anything with it.

SGE2010 Does not block ports even with STP enabled

Good day,
We are experiencing bridge storms and network slow downs and we believe we have traced the issue down to users plugging a cat 5/6 cable between 2 ports on the wall both wired back to a SGE2010 switch.
So we did a test - we plugged a single short cat 6 cable between 2 ports on a SGE2010, our access switch. Suprisingly, even with STP enabled, the switch DID NOT block one of the ports and in a few minutes the ENTIRE NETWORK was down, as CDP, STP, and ARP traffic became a multi-gigabit storm throughout the network.
Why on earth does this switch not block a port that is obviosly looped?
Every other cisco switch since I started on 1900XL's did this in 1999.

Dear Joe,
STP would conrol multiple links (for redundancy) between switches (endpoints) turning an inactive link on when the active goes down and preventing duplicate active links between them. More about STP at page 258 of the
SFE-SGE2xxx Admin Guide PDF.
The function you might be interested in is called "Storm Control" which limits the number of packets per second so to prevent the switch and the network from storms. ITunes Password Rejected with Ethernet, OK with Wifi.

My ATV2 says my iTunes password is wrong when connected by Ethernet cable to my iMac. If I unplug the Ethernet cable and the ATV2 connects to the Internet via my Airport, the password is accepted. I'm temporarily out of the US and use a VPN service on my iMac enabling me to watch Netflix, so why can't my new ATV2 connect properly with Ethernet to the same iMac? I've got OSX Lion, and all software and firmware is up to date for ATV2, iMac and Airport. I've tried unplugging, restoring, resetting password and other solutions I've seen on this forum, but no success yet. Thanks in advance for any help.

Have you enabled internet sharing over the ethernet port?
It may be an erroneous error description and the real issue is AppleTV not being able to connect to the store in the first place.

Depends.
If you go in System Preferences / Network, you will see a list of all the network interfaces your current configuration has. If you click on the gear icon next to the minus sign, the drop menu will offer "Set Service Order...". There you can prioritize the order of use: Ethernet above Wi-Fi and wireless will be ignored if Ethernet is available.
Note that the Wi-Fi card will remain active and associated with an access point nonetheless. It just won't be used for communications by the OS and apps.

Setup Time Capsule as wireless device and Time Machine with Ethernet?

I'm running the latest version of Airport Utility (6.3.4) with a TC a1254 and Macbook Pro platinum late 2007.
I have a modem/router Ryge model Wa41r.
Ive tried everything I could find in the forums and in expert pages and can't configure my Time Capsule as a Wireless Device connected to the modem/router and Time Machine with Ethernet Cable.
I tried letting it configure itself, it held the wifi signal for over 5 min then turned off. Never that way worked again.
Then I configured with other examples seen in Apple communities and expert Apple pages, but it conflicted with my routers signal. I turned off the Wireless Lan Interface and it turned off the Ethernet cable with the connection as well. I tried giving my TC different IP address.
So my Time Capsule gives me this status in flicking amber: Internet connection and Conflicting DCHP Range. (when I connect to my Mac the Internet works)
And strangely the wireless signal appears in my Macbook but not in my Android Phone.
Works fine doing backups when asked via ethernet.
Also when I go to check on it on Airport Utility in other wifi devices it appears but says "Device Not Found - device name- was previously part of your network. Check that is still in range...etc"

I would like to help you but you need to clear up some things..
A Time Capsule is plugged into the network by ethernet.. you back up to it using wireless or ethernet.. it should make no difference which.

I cannot understand.. The Time Capsule plugs into the main modem router.. and should be in bridge mode..
Time Machine is not hardware.. it is the backup software on the computer.. there is no way you can connect Time Machine with ethernet cable. .you can connect the computer with Ethernet Cable..
But you need to clarify please.
If you wish to connect TC to the Modem router by wireless this is not possible. It must connect by ethernet.
You can connect your computer to it using either wireless or ethernet.

It is likely the wireless name is not valid.
Make sure all names are short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. 2-20 characters.. Do not use the Apple recommended names.. they can be totally wrong.
Also the password for wireless should be 8-20 characters but same rules.. pure alphanumeric mixed case and numbers.
Start again.
Factory reset the TC.
Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
Plug it into the main router by ethernet.
Do the setup via the airport utility in a Mac or iOS device.
Follow the setup instructions above.
Then you can connect to the TC LAN ports by ethernet or use wireless on the computer.
Your modem WA41R. I cannot find details in English . .they are all Spanish so we may be having difficulty of language here.
But if the modem is working as router the TC has to be in bridge mode.. it will not work properly in router mode.
So you should see it set as bridge here.

Thank you for the question. It sounds like there is no sound with an incoming phone call or text. Have you checked to see if Do Not Disturb was accidentally enabled? You will see a "moon" icon in the status bar if it is enabled.
You can disable Do Not Disturb in Settings > Do Not Disturb or in the Control Center as described in the following articles:
