Show CPU temperature in conky [solved]

Hello,
I'm trying to get the temperature of my CPU in conky.
I tried with "${acpitemp}" but it shows me "0".
I installed lm-sensors and hddtemp

Z68A-G43 - Bios shows cpu temperature incorrectly - noisy fan - SOLVED

I have i7-2600 + Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro rev.2 and when I use Z68A-G43 (G3), the cpu temperature shown in the bios is around 20 degrees higher ( 52-53 degrees C ) , than while I am using the same components on MSI H67MA-E35 or Asus P8H61M-LE/USB3 (30 -32 degrees in both cases ) !
I use the same thermal paste and the cpu & heat sink are definitely seated properly.
The on-board sensors are fine as when Windows is loaded, programs like HWINFO, PCWizard show the right, much lower temperature .
It wouldn't bother me that much since I know that nothing is getting overheated (the heat sink is cold ) ,however, the higher bios indications make the cpu fan spinning much faster ( 2000 rpms + ), I cannot slow it down thus I get a lot of noise coming out from it .
I updated bios to the newest 2.3 ( btw brilliant tool by Svet ) but there was no improvement, I still get the high temps and no option to control the fan.

This is pretty normal behaviour, my bios temp is ~40°C - 42°C, whilst in Windows the idle temp is ~25°C (depending all on ambient temps).
There are 2 reasons given, which one is correct or if they are both correct, I dont know, but they told me that in BIOS, the cpu utilization is much higher then in idle Windows desktop and/or it is as Jack already described, that powersaving options are not enabled in BIOS, but doing such a good thing in Windows, that the cpu drops its temps significantly.
The reason for the higher BIOS temp then others, can be in the cpu itself, some are just plain hotheads, or have flaky temperature sensors, for instance one core of my cpu will always be at 62°C max, while the other three peak at ~71°C, it just will not go over 62°C.

I just want to ask a question about "standard" CPU temperatures because my laptop (a Dell Vostro 3700) is permanently hot with the fans on even when I am not doing anything special.
I have CPU freq scaling active with the conservative governor, and I use Gnome Shell 3.2 with an nVidia using the nouveau driver.

The fan, of course, is full speed (very annoying)
I think that these temperatures are quite high, but I don't know what's really causing all this heating because my laptop is basically idle.

I can't keep my laptop on my lap as it is very warm.

Before downloading SMC Fan Control as per the suggestion of ivanhernandezeuropa you should check first why the computer is showing such temperatures. My first step would be to use Activity Monitor to check if there were a runaway process. Flash is a possible culprit. If there is some application using large amounts of CPU capacity, it may be a good idea to quit that (if necessary Force Quit) then see how the temperatures and fans react.
I have the 13" and the 15" MacBook Pro and these both get a bit warm sometimes. Usually, the cause is a process, like mds which may appear when Spotlight is indexing; and of course Flash (often a problem).
Putting the notebook computer on your lap is not really recommended and recent research suggests that you could suffer more than burned knees.
Check too that the fan vents are not obstructed in any way.

Hwmon device ordering - problem showing temperature in conky

My conky sometimes refuses to show CPU temerature. That is because it gets it from file "temp1_input" which is normally located in /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon0/ , but sometimes after computer reboot it shows up in /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon1/ . It is evident, that the problem is ordering hwmon devices, which seems to be random. Is there any way to force ordering to be always the same?

That happened to me before; I think the problem was that there were two modules that were being loaded and they weren't always loaded in the same order. I only actually used one, so I blacklisted the other, and then the correct information would always show up in hwmon0. Here's a post from when I was on ubuntu; adjusting for Arch should be straightforward.

K8T Neo-FSR showing incorrect CPU temperature

Hello. I recently purchased a K8T Neo-FSR, which came with BIOS v2.2 installed. For some reason, it wouldn't allow me to set my own memory timings (it always used the "safe and sane" SPD values, according to CPU-Z, regardless of any BIOS settings I tried). I wasn't about to sit back and let my expensive new memory go underclocked, so following some advice I found on an obscure German forum, I installed the v7.1 BIOS from MSI's global site. That fixed the timing issue, but now the board is reporting incorrect temperatures for my CPU. It usually fluctuates between 23-26c, but will occasionally rise to nearly 30c and then immediately drop back down again. Case temperature remains stable at 27c. When I first installed the board, the temps were right around 45c, almost 20 degrees higher, which seems a lot more accurate to me (though this was also before I upgraded the crappy heatsink).
Is this anything to be concerned about, and is the CPU temperature supposed to constantly fluctuate like that? I'm worried that if my fan fails or something else goes wrong, the sytem won't react until the temperature is 20 degrees OVER the safe limit. I have a feeling it interferes with the Cool n' Quiet functions, too, though my CPU fan (Thermaltake Venus 7) has its own built-in sensor and adjusts itself automatically anyway.
Aside from the temperature wackiness, the system is rock-solid and runs like a dream. Specs are in my signature.

There are 754 Venice's out there as NewEgg sold them at one point from what I gather as I was looking at what was the best 754 but settled for the Clawhammer.
I have just stopped using CoreCentre on my XP as it started to show extremely erroneous and frightening temps so I ran MBM5 in conjunction as well as used my Cases thermal probes and guess which one was wrong...?
This was after seating and reseating the cooler, CPU, memory many times and it was only on Asetek's forums that reminded me that I should maybe do some independant tests by taping probes on the cpu's board as close to the core as poss, a difference of twenty degrees no less.
CoreCentre seems to have got a bit lost and a tad annoyed as I cross checked after buying the components for a 1/2" inch custom watercooling setup.
Now this is the current temp and voltages I get:
The 45 degree high was me using Prime to "cook" the thermal paste as I had to reseat the Artic Freezer 64 as it had dropped a touch.
My ClawHammer is for some reason one of those that never had a heatspreader which of course leads to difficulties with such coolers as the Freezer 64 Pro. Does anyone know where I can get another spreader or should I just leave it...?
I am not going to o/c this CPU to be honest, since sorting the temps out and once the watercooling is on, 3.2Ghz is plenty good for me for the moment and bearing in mind the Neo's touchyness about settings in BIOS I am very much considering now to roll back the BIOS to 1.9 as it was 2.2 that started causing the problems.
As for the memory timings, my Neo is totally ignoring any attempts to change the timings of my memory, I had to part company with my XMS Crucial sticks because the Neo had all sorts of problems and running some of the best memory at DDR200 was pointless.

MSI P67A-C45 Cpu temperature 127°c

Hi guys, i've bought new P67A-C45 with Intel i7 2600 box.
My machine measuring 127°C of cpu temperature during Intel burn test 2.5 at maximum:

But the system is stable and never blocked...Does mainboard have temperature's alert in bios' option? I'm not overclocking nothing and i've not activated oc genie 2... Any suggestion?

Realistically if you are stress testing and the gap between the core temps and the CPU temp is 50C + as in your case, then I would suspect a defective sensor for the CPU. Under full load with the standard Intel fan it is quite possible that the temps may end up in the mid 70s for the cores. But I think Mark is correct re the seating of the heatsink. DDR memory speed of 800 means its running at 1600, which would be correct if you have XMP enabled. With XMP disabled, it should probably be 667 or 533, depending what the SPD profile of the mem modules and if your mem modules are supported by your BIOS and correctly auto set.
The 127 reading as far as I know is the absolute max of the sensor. The sensor seems to be working as your minimum shows 105, so it may be the Fintek chip or whatever chip this board uses that may not apply the correct calibration. If your cores were also approaching the 100 mark then your MB BIOS would be throttling the CPU.
Seeing that your core temps are not "running away" my opinion remains a defective sensor. A BIOS update may solve this though. You will need to check.

Tweak the balance between fan speed and CPU temperature / Dell M6400?

I have a Dell Precision M6400 17" laptop. It runs really well on Arch, but is a bit noisy. It has always been noisy, btw, but I recently noticed that the CPU fan was blowing a lot of air even though the CPU temperature is lower than 70°C. I also have a macbook air, and its CPU runs at 70°C all the time, which seems to be normal. I would like my m6400 to behave similarly, and I'm sure someone here know how to change that

When I start the laptop, its CPU fan stays at its minimal speed only for 1 or 2 minutes, then increases its rotation speed to a second level. It reaches it maximal speed only under heavy load, when the CPU reaches >80-95°C. I would rather let the CPU run a bit hotter before the fan starts to blow: let's say the fan could enter its intermediary speed between 70°C and 85°C instead of 55-80°C, and blow at is its maximum speed beyond that.
I checked the Fan Speed Control wiki page, but lm-sensors is not able to show me the status of the fans. Any idea ?

PS: the temperature of the GPU is not reported by sensors, and nvidia-settings reports around 60°C. Its dedicated fan is very quiet.

I'm in the same situation from at least 1 month ( INTEL CORE 2 EXTREME X9100, 3.06GHz with 8GB ram, one solid state disk 128 GB, and one sata disk 500GB)
My dell M6400 has dual boot: ubuntu and windows7. The fan works a lot and continuosly in both environment and this is the reason because I have doubt that the origin of the problem is in hardware problem?

Mac Pro CPU temperature while rendering

Hey there, I just recently got myself a Mac Pro 2009 with a stock CPU - quad 2.66. While rendering, my CPU temperature goes up to 71C/160F and fans are on their defaults. Im just wondering if this temperature is OK for fans to not kick in, or I should reset something? Thank you

By seeing all the thermal sensor readings, and fans, sometimes people have found an issue where the readings were not right - sensor was getting wrong reading or none -
Laptop like MacBook Pro can often have their fans running much harder to cool and deal with heat.
Those new Haswell chips are suppose to run even hotten, they may be providing Intel 4600 integrated graphics as well as cpu functions, PCIe and USB3 as well as memory controller. They are powerful and efficient - and you will see cpu spikes in utilization AND corresponding changes in temps. \
Same on Mac Pro but not as extreme. Opening apps and files can show 10*C jumps for 1/2 second.
If you are going to render, then sure do what helps the system stay cooler and in a safe(r) temperature range. Newer components are helping companies save $$ on cooling and being able to run servers and even disk drives by 5*C warmer making a huge change. Think Google, Facebook or NSA having large factory flooors housing equipment needing to be kept in temperature controlled environments.

MacBook CPU Temperature

For the last several months my MacBook fan start to run as soon as I do anything processor intensive - including running a screensaver. As soon as I do something other than read mail or write in BBedit the fan revs up to 6000+ rpm. Looking at iState menu right now: Handbrake is the highest load, running using about 50% of the CPU. CPU temp is 99C, heatsink A 57C, heatsink B 56C, and the Enclosure base is 27C. The fan, as usual is running over 6000 rpm.
Is this normal? Could it be that thermal paste problem? Internet research has been more confusing than helpful.
Applecare is long expired - This is an early 2008 model.

yep. and i bet, your fan isn't even spinning at its 6200 rpm maxmimum to accomplish this.
ok. as far as i understand it, different mabook series allow for different cpu temperatures and accordingly have a different fan behavior depending on which cpu is installed and which buliding materials are used in the book itself. so we can't directly compare your 2007 model to his 2008 or my 2009 model. but one thing pertains to all machines: if the fan spins at it's absolute maximum speed for a longer time period and temperatures do not drop noticeable, and if the fan never showed this behavior before, there's probably something wrong.
either the ventilation is blocked for some reason or the thermal paste is disintegrating. i would have checked it at the store. also, there is this wide gap between cpu temperature and heatsink temperature. for all i know, it's normally a difference up tof 15-20°, but not arround 40°.

T61 T7250 CPU Temperature

What is the ideal CPU Temperature (safe range) of Lenovo Thinkpad T61 ? The processor is Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7250 @ 2.00GHz. My system shows the following with a room temperature of 33 Degree Celcius (Taken 45 minutes after bootup. It varies between 49 and 51).

If you wanted a 100% perfect cpu with twice as much cache memory (compared to yours), I could probably get you one for about $10 delivered to your door (more or less depending on cost of postage). I can certainly understand why you wouldn't want to waste your old chip, but someone using a slower chip might be willing to pay $5 for it, so it wouldn't be a complete waste.
These are chips that originally cost hundreds of dollars and the way I see it is as cheap as they are selling now, I can't afford not to upgrade. Generally the fastest chip in any line are quite expensive even after a few years, but the models we are talking about end up being so cheap that they are destroyed in order to salvage $1-2 of gold from them.
However if you're happy with your performance, then there is no reason to upgrade.
There is one other aspect you may want to consider, if your system has the newer version of system board that supports Penryn cpu chips, then you could get a more advanced cpu chip that runs cooler, since you're concerned about running temp. If your laptop was manufactured in 2008, then it's very possible it could have a board that supports the penryn class cpu.

M40X-259 CPU temperature?

Is it possible to check the CPU temperature of my M40X-259?
I tried Everest and Notebook Hardware Control, both only show the HDD temp.

Lenovo essential G505s (59-380146) CPU temperature

Hello Friends, Hope ya'll are doing fine. I bought lenovo essential G505s (59-380146) finally.
I am using speccy to monitor my laptop. My CPU temperature when the laptop is started averages around 85-90 degrees and during gaming, it reaches to 125 degree celcius.
I have a feeling this is not normal.
Also, on the box it said the RAM is of 1600MHz but speccy is showing it to be be 800MHz. What can be done in this case?
Kindly help!

I checked you system's info.
Due to Turbo core Tech, your system might be Overclocking automatically up to 3.5, one step further to the normal speed of 2.5
Clock Speed
2.5 GHz with Turbo Core Technology Upto 3.5 GHz
This might be being triggered if you run a high processing Application.
and might the cause of over heating.
125 degrees is too hot for a computer and might cause problems.
Try to limit your CPU state to 99% this will stop the turbo core from being triggered then observe the Temperature. It should not be higher than 90 degress.
Check here how to limit the CPU state
Also note that room temperature may contribute.
About your RAM Speed
Software Tools is likely to report half of the memory speed since you have a doudle data rate, you will have to multipy the reported speed twice to get the actual speed

Macbook Pro Retina Late 2013 CPU temperature issues while gaming (99 celsius) Is this normal ?

Hello everyone, this is my first time here. I recently purchased a macbook pro retina late 2013 notebook just over a month ago. It seems to be working just fine. I've installed bootcamp and installed windows 7. I use Speccy for my temperature monitor. I've played DayZ Standalone as well as L4D2. I noticed while playing both games on their lowest settings the CPU temperature consistently stays in the 90 degree celsius range often reaching 99 degrees celsius. I am fairly tech saavy and have a decent knowledge of computers.I bought the ThermaPak Heatshift pad in hopes of cooling it down but to no avail as it only does a great job at cooling everything else. This is my first laptop so I treat it like my baby ! haha I was wondering if these temp readings are normal because I know that even reaching 70 celsius can be somewhat damaging. Thank you for your assistance.

So I just got back from the apple store and wow, what rude service. The guy basically shrugged when I told him "Well, I guess Im stuck with it huh?" after he told me there was no way I could get a refund. He performed a test and told me everything was fine and told me in a very arrogant manner that the test isn't showing the results I told them about as if I was lying....***? He said they can send it away for a few weeks but I don't have any other computer and I just bought this one for school so I can't afford to have it gone for that long. He told me "doesn't your school have a computer lab"? Seriously, how can someone at Apple be this rude? I told him they do but its closed at 7 and I dont live on campus. How could a computer lab replace a personal computer? He basically kept shrugging rudely anytime I tried to find a solution. He didn't even reply with a single word. When I told him I called the call center and they told me that yes it is much too hot and to take it to the store after doing a fix he just chuckled and rolled his eyes. Really? I spent 1500 dollars on this computer to not even be able to do basic things on it without it overheating and the service is this bad? Well, looks like I won't ever be buying an apple product again even though before this experience I was a huge fan of all their products. I know one customer doesnt make a difference to them but come on...looks like I'm stuck with it and apple couldnt give one care. If having your hands uncomfortably hot after a small amount of time is acceptable then it looks like I'll never be buying another laptop from them. Its a shame I really liked it at first.

M30X-118: How to get CPU temperature?

Hi,
I'd like to ask how can I get a cpu temperature reading within Windows XP.
I've tried some utilities like MotherBoard Monitor and MobileMeter but they show nothing. In MobileMeter I get only the cpu Frequency and HDD temp.
Any ideas?

well.. diapointment..
after some thinking and observing I found out that the temperature cpucool reads is HDD temperature.. NOT cpu temperature..
it seems there is no sensor for CPU..
PC Wizard 2005 confirms that sensor readout is HDD sensor..
