Show latest value of a variable

Hi -
I am creating my own exercise in Captivate and I want to use a variable to count the number of hotspots a user clicks on and to display that value real time. I have the variable created, but when I run it the value doesn't update as expected. I can't tell if my variable update via the Advanced Actions just isn't working or if the screen isn't refreshing to show the current value.
Anyone have any experience with this?

Hi,
It is possible to accomplish this with any of the interactive items. This is also possible using the HotSpot questions.
1. Create a variable in Advanced Actions say "numclicks" = 0
2. For every click box/button/hotspot question, in the Actions accordion you have an action, Increment. For each of the "Hotspots" set the Actions to Increment and assign the variable as numclicks
3. Wherever you need to display the number of clicks, Add a text caption and assign the text to the variable "numclicks" in the Format accordian.
4. Preview. This will increment the text caption with the number of clicks at each point.

Displaying the value of an variable on the stage

I have managed to display the values contained in string variables on stage, and I am happy with that, however when I wish to display the value of an int and convert it to a string as one is supposed to do the output to the stage just calls it [class int] and does not give its value. any suggestions?
My rogram contains a stage at frame 1 which displays a word. The user must input a word. Frame 30 then displays the word which was displayed and the word input by the user. That all works fine. But the value of the variable NumberRight, which has been assigned to that variable will only display as [class int] without showing its value. (even though I have converet it to a string using the .to string function you see below).
My code is as follows;

Yes I have managed to overcome that problem it was some code on the first frame, please excuse, however, now, is there any way to remove the [class int] bit from the displays, I wish to have the results as a clear copy of the results so that they can be printed out, without [class int] all over the place?

Hi Ned thanks for that. Yes I had accidently created blank spaces in the String() argument. (wanted to check if there was a subsequent difference in display and forgot to return them to normal ...Sorted )
Your next suggestion has eliminated the [class int] but I get a value now of 0.
My code on the first frame for a correct response for example is;

many years ago I wrote this same program in Authorware using similar code. I am trying to re write it in FlashCS5 using ActionScript 3 and It take days to solve small problems. I notice also that If for example the user of the program makes an error and I record the error as NumberRight =NumberRight -1 the program records it as Total Correct = NaN .
I gave up on this a few months back but I am trying again. I think there must be a better way to do this. Variables do not seem to add up or subtract for me at present. no doubt its me thats got it wrong.

Latest Value to Show in Query

I'm trying to create a query where the latest value shows up on my query.
For example, my data looks like the following:
Week      Hours
05/2007   1360.0
06/2007   1360.0
07/2007   1440.0
08/2007   1440.0
09/2007   1400.0
If I have a variable on the week and choose a range from 01/2007 through 11/2007, I want the ending hours to show up as 1400.0. Currently, they show up as 0 since I don't have any data for week 11/2007. Any ideas on how I might be able to achieve this?

Hi,
As per my understanding I believe that you need the latest data in the Date range inputted.
You can calculate the value using Formula variable. Populate the Forumula variable in the User exit based on the Date range value.

2) id of type as "Historize"
I have 2 Models -
1) One is based on FIle Technology with resource name as #CUSTOMER.filename (dynamic filename) (TARGET)
2) second is based on Oracle technology which contains two relational tables (SOURCE)
I have an interface in which one-to-one mapping is done from source to target.

Calendar Year variable is not showing listed values

Hi,
I have a query which I am running based on the standard variable ( 0CALYEAR ) input. When I run first time it shows the list of values in the selection editor and displays the result. But after executing when I am trying to change filter values in the output, it doesn't show list values as well if I enter manually, I am not getting the result. I am getting out put no data available....
I created new variables on 0CALYEAR info object, but same problem. My query structure is
In rows I just defined Calendar Year / Month ( so that I can get all months for that user entered Year ).
In Columns I defined one Key Figure.

Env variable for custom top showing diffent values

hi,
we cloned the prod to UAT then the
value for env variable for custom top showing different values.
ie,
backend it is showing
echo $XXECO_TOP
/oracle/UAT/apps/apps_st/appl/xxeco/12.0.0 (this is the correct value)
from the front end when we submit the "print environment variable" concurrent request it shows the following incorrect value
/dev/oracle/app/oraprod/apps/apps_st/appl/xxeco/12.0.0 (this is prod value)
please let us know how to correct the value

'Show Null Values as' variables not replaced

I need the null values to display as small as possible so there is an image in my image repository, 1x1px, transparent, that I wanted to display in these null places, but when I inserted something like <img src="&COMPANY_IMAGES.null.gif"> or <img src="#COMPANY_IMAGES#null.gif">, the COMPANY_IMAGES was not replaced with the usual long call, it was just like inserted in the 'Show Null Values as' field.
I have workarounds
1) use a static image, that is publicly available - making the app's appearance dependant on that publicly available image.
2) select columns with nvl(NULLABLE_COL, '<img src="#COMPANY_IMAGES#null.gif">'), which is just a thing, that could be easily forgotten in some place and makes the query even more obscure than it already is.
I really like neither of them. Is there some other way to call COMPANY_IMAGES in that field or is it just a place where isn't the substitution string available?

wow. you're right about that substitution not being made in that "Show Null Values as" field. i'll log that issue in a sec. you can work around the issue for now by simply doing that substitution yourself. so if you run this...
select :WORKSPACE_IMAGES FROM DUAL
...from your sqlWorkshop, you'll see that WORKSPACE_IMAGES is substituted with a call like...
wwv_flow_file_mgr.get_file?p_security_group_id=123456&p_fname=
...(where 123456 is my :WORKSPACE_ID). if you wanted to call an image called my_image.jpg in that "Show Null Values as" field, you could just enter the string...
wwv_flow_file_mgr.get_file?p_security_group_id=123456&p_fname=my_image.jpg
...right in there, and you'd find your images rendered correctly. the only thing to watch out for is the hard-coded :WORKSPACE_ID in your field. you'd have to mind at number if you deployed your app in a different workspace.

How to get all the values of a variable with F4 with checkboxes to select

Dear Experts,
After Executing a query by giving let 3 values(Out of 10 Values) to a variable.
To give 2 more input values to the same variable(i.e.,total I wanted to give 5 inputs this time ),after refreshing the query,for that variable if I click F4, I am seeing the historical values(i.e.,3) and remaining 7 values also But with out any Check Boxes besides them to select the 2 inputs.
In the same F4 Screen, If I click all values(an Icon at The bottom),then also Im seeing but no check Box.
I hve tried by deleting the Delete Personalization also,but no use.
Please tell me How to get all the values with F4 with check boxes to select ,whatever I want??

Take a look at the InfoObject and go to the Business Explorer tab. If the 'Query Def. Filter Value Selection' is set to 'Only Values in InfoProvider', you're only going to get the values in F4 that exist in the InfoProvider, not everything in the Master Data. This would need to be changed to the value of 'Values in Master Data Table' if you want it to show everything possible when F4 is chosen.
Likewise, you're going to need to look at the query and go to the Advanced tab for the InfoObject. Make sure that the radio button for 'Values in Master Data Table' is selected. If not, then you should change that selection.

In the latest version of BPS, you may also use the following new foreach construct:
FOREACH var IN VARIABLE variable_id.

How to Get Value from a Variable to restrict a Key Figure ?

I am trying to make a query in Query designer, we are running BI7.
I have a user entry veriable on the Fiscal year period, the user will need to enter a period they want the report for, i.e. 07.2008 for July 2008 report and 04.2008 for April 2008 report.
Based on what the user entered as the starting period (in the variable entry), I have to then use that initial value and show the Year to date value (of sales etc) in the next column.
To Clarify, if user entered 07.2008 then all the data from 01.2008 to 07.2008 needs to be in the next column.   if user entered 04.2008 then all the data from 01.2008 to 04.2008 should be in the next column.
So to summarise according to my understanding, I want to get the value from a variable and pass it onto another variable to restrict a key firgure (sales amount)...
Can someone please clarify what i need to do here?

1. Create a new varialbe , this variable should be processed by customer exit.
2. In the column section, create a new column and drag the sales key figure, also drag fiscal year period and restrict with the new variable.
3. In the cmod tcode write a customer exit code to extract the value of the user entry and assign it your variable, you can refer to the below code.

Store multiple values into a variable

I was wondering if it was possible to store multiple values into one varaible. Something along the lines of...

where    year = 2009;Basically the reason I was trying to figure out how to store multiple values into a variable is b/c I was going to use that variable (pID) as a parameter and have it's values passed dynamically when the proc was called. The values would go into a query that would look something like:

where person_id in (1,2,3,4)Not sure if this is possible, but if anyone knows of a way I could accomplish this that would be great.

Issue with Dashboard Prompt passing value to Presentation Variable

I have 2 tabular reports that grab 2 variables respectively: @Month and @Year.
The reports work fine.
My issues is that to compute the most recent month & year, so I can pass the values to the 2 variables mentioned above, I have a dashboard prompt on the same page as the 2 reports. In the dashboard prompts (Edit Box types), I have SQL in the "Default" that computes the most recent month & year. This logic also works perfectly when you preview the results of the prompt.
My issue is that when I land on the page, it seems that the month & year prompts are not computing. I have an old value of "Dec" "2009" instead of "May" "2010".
It seems the Default SQL logic is NOT running on its own? As an aside, we do our development in a test environment and the catalog is promoted to production nightly. The "Dec" and "2009" I see is the correct value for the test environment, so it looks as if the defaul values are just being migrated with the catalog, but then the SQL to compute the latest values of the 2 propmts are never executing when the user lands on the page? Thus everyone sees Dec 2009 data instead of May 2010...Help!

Users Authorization- Restrict value of one variable corresponding to other.

I have query regarding BEx Authorization for the given selection screen of any variable for any report :
I have two parameters/variables( Category and Sub Category) which needs to be passed from User. I want to restrict the value of second variable corresponding to the values passed in first variable. For e.g. : if i passed Category value -Engineering ,Sub Category variable should only show the value related to engineering only other than all the values in sub category field in the selection screen for the user.

                               Arts : sociology philosophy etc
                               Commerce: economics, accountancy etc
Now Maintain authorization for Char. related to Engineering and create Auth. variable, follow this steps:
Transaction Code- RSECADMIN
Steps to create Authorization based on Division e.g. InfoObject    is 0DIVISION.
Check for 0DIVISION, it must be Authorization relevant checked, if not then maintain 0DIVISION and check Authorization relevant box.
Step 1: Create Analysis Authorization Maintenance using RSECADMIN T-Code, in that add 3 special characteristics i.e. 0TCAACTVT , 0TCAIPROV and 0TCAVALID, these are the mandatory Char. along with that add 0DIVISION for which you want to create Authorization, 0DIVISION details restrict value as 01 (EQ 01).
Step 2: Again goto RSECADMIN -> User tab-> Assignment, enter username (e.g. User1) which you want to restrict. insert Auth. obj. from step1.
Step 3: Now in Query designer, create Authorization variable for 0DIVISION, i.e. process type Authorization.
Execute That query with restricted user (e.g. User1) it will only show the data for Division = 01.

Reading value of bind variable

I have been debugging a java application and in the process I wanted to know which values the application passed as bind variables. So i checked v$sql_bind_capture and enabled trace on the session. Unfortunately the datatype was TIMESTAMP, so the view did not show a value and all I got from the trace was a memory dump that is not of much use to me:

Just ran this little test:
SQL> CREATE TABLE t (c1 TIMESTAMP);
Table created.
SQL> INSERT INTO t VALUES (TRUNC(SYSTIMESTAMP));
1 row created.
SQL> COMMIT;
Commit complete.
SQL> SELECT TO_CHAR(c1) FROM t
2 UNION
3 SELECT DUMP(c1) FROM t;
TO_CHAR(C1)
13-NOV-08 00.00.00.000000
Typ=180 Len=7: 120,108,11,13,1,1,1Converting those decimals to hex gives you 78,6C,0B,0D,01,01,01 which accounting for reverse byte order is the same as your memory dump. So I think the bind value is 13-NOV-2008 00:00:00:000000.
Not quite sure how to get from the hex directly back to the date/time, but I'm sure someone knows!
Actually, Google was quite useful... take 100 off the first two decimal values: 120-100 = 20; 108-100 = 08, to give you the year: 2008. Then the 11 and 13 are the month and day. The remainder are hour + 1, minute + 1, second + 1. So just convert your hex to decimal and you should be able to see the value clearly!

Restrict value of one variable corresponding to value passed in other.

Dear Experts,
I have query regarding BEx Authorization for the given selection screen of any variable for any report :
I have three parameters/variables( Circle ,SSA and Exchange) which needs to be passed from User. Circle(state)->SSA(City)->Exchange(Sub Locality). I want to restrict the value of second and third variable corresponding to the values passed in first variable. For e.g. : if a value Madhya Pradesh is passed as a Circle then SSA selection screen should show only
City or SSAs of Madhya Pradesh only. Same case with selection screen of exchange variable also.

I think you will have to have Circle (State) as the attribute of SSA(City) and SSA(City) will have to be attribute of Exchange (Sub Locality). Then when you enter a value in Circle variable, the take the F4 help on SSA, then you will get the values which are relevant for the respective Circle. Similarly the Exchange.
If you enter a wrong value for SSA and Exchange...and click check, then the system should throw an error.
Apart from this you can also create Authorization objects for all the three objects in RSECADMIN and provide appropriate access to relevant users. In this case the users will see only the authorized values in the F4. However the system will not throw an error during the input of the variables. But will only display authorization error only when you execute the query.
