Showing text overflow in a long document

Hi everyone,
I'm creating a long document. I want to send a proof to a publisher, but a few pages contain too much text for the layout I created. I want to send the document as is, in pdf form, but want to show how much text cannot fit in these textboxes.
I thought of using a slug to show this, but would be cumbersome on the pages that don't have overflow. I thought about making notes, but I can't figure out how to get them to print.
Any idea's on how to show this text would be appreciated!
Thank you!

export it with enough slug, then in Acrobat crop the pages you dont want with slug.

  • Show Text Thread in all opened Document

    I want to show text thread in all opended Documents, here is my script, but have error, anyone can fix?
    var myEnableTextThreads = app.menuActions.itemByID(24332);
    var myEnableTextThreads1 = app.menuActions.item("Hide Text Threads");
    var myEnableTextThreads2 = app.menuActions.item("Show Text Threads");
    ShowThreads();
    function ShowThreads(){
    var myDoc = app.documents;
    for (var i=0; i<myDoc.length; i++) {
    if (myDoc[i].menuActions.item("Show Text Threads") == true){
               myEnableTextThreads.invoke();
                 alert("Text Threads Shown");

    Hi,
    No such property is exposed for scripting, unfortunately.
    The one to observe is a menuAction.name ==> but this is only an effect of some procedure involved by menuAction. Even worse ==> script will show you the last menuAction status - not the one is currently applied to activeDocument. It will update after menu activation in UI, not earlier.
    So you can only toggle between both of them regardless on its current state, using app.menuActions.itemByID(24332).
    If you will try to check (by script) its current menuAction.name ==> sometimes is true, sometimes is false.
    If you will check it manually ==. is true cause is updated already.

  • How to edit linked text in an Indesign long document without it effecting the whole document

    I want to work out how to edit text in indesign without the rest scrolling
    I have a large 200 page book.  The text was supplied in Word and I have placed the whole document automatically and now I am going through each page doing my magic with pics, stylesheets etc.
    When the client comes back with edits, I am concerned that deleted or adding in text will scroll the text to the next chapter, etc etc.  This will be a nightmare.  Not sure how to unlink say 5 pages or so that are in each chapter so I can edit easily without the whole document being effected.
    Apologies I am probably not explaining myself all that well.

    lisalip wrote:
    john the link is broken
    I can see there are scripts but I don't want each page separate rather each chapter (each chapter can go for 2 or 7 pages)
    I am only 35 pages or so into the book and if I have to I can re place the text with some work, ie start again with the text pages.
    seems sily though that I cannot split the threaded stories a few pages at a time.
    The link is now fixed.
    You can split the threaded story into separate stories anywhere in the thread. At the chapter breaks seems logical. There are many users who'll assert all sorts of right/wrong at you when it comes to threading text. For my purposes, I set up long documents much the way you propose; threading articles, stories, or chapters discreetly; rarely would I ever thread an entire long document as one. It's a preference, not a rule. Each way has benefits and pitfalls.

    When I copy/paste text to an ipages empty document can does it only show the first page of what I copied?

    You want to use word processing mode. I suggest you ask your question in the Pages forum and include information about what you are copying. Off the top of my head I can't come up with any reason you'd see this in WP mode.   https://discussions.apple.com/community/iwork/pages

  • Exported PDF's from FormsCentral show text until submitted to 3rd party application

    Hello,
    I'm running into an issue when trying to export a group of PDF forms that were created in FormsCentral they do show text when opened with Adobe Reader.  However if another program attempts to read the PDF it does not show the text input by end users into the form.  If I print the PDF file to PDF and then attempt to index it with different software the submitted text is usable.  I'd like to find a way to not have another step in the process to print to PDF for an existing PDF.  I'm not sure if the text is showing up as a background layer that isn't visible to other applications or if it is potentially the font which is Trebuchet MS.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hello Gen,
    We are importing the forms into Banner Document Managment System.  Once they are saved as a PDF every part of the PDF is visible to the document except what the user has input.  Then when it is saved and searched for in Banner Document Management System the text no longer shows up when the PDF is opened.  They will show up if I print to PDF using CutePDF Writer and then upload into Banner Document Management System.  Banner Document Managment System is used to host all of the school's documents when they are submitted.
    Thanks for your assistance!

  • Problems displaying and editing long documents on small pages sizes

    Problems displaying and editing long documents on small page sizes
    I read this problem have called with the helpdesk they didn't know the solution but how can I find the solution:
    In Pages 09, I can't scroll down andand click on text to edit it!! All the mouse will do is draw gray transparentboxes and not place the cursor in the text. Again, like the display problem, itdoesn't happen at the beginning of the doc, but starts showing up around 50 to60 pages in ... I can't select text at the bottom of pages ... at 50 pages, thecursor can be clicked into anyplace on a page. Further and further down, the unselectablearea on any particular page creeps up from the bottom line by line: at 175pages in the unselectable area is 12 lines high; at 360 pages in theunselectable area is 25 lines high. and finally at around 440 pages down, Icannot place the cursor anywhere on any page all the way to the end of thedocument.
    I have Page versie 4.1

    What you get was described here several times.
    As we are end users like you, we can't change the app behavior.
    Under 10.6.8 you have the buttons allowing you to scroll one line up or one line down.
    Under Lion they are no longer available.

  • Show where are stylesheets used in document?

    I've been passed a long document where numerous people have previously worked on it. As such, there are tons of paragraph stylesheets! I can delete the unused ones no problem, but it still leaves many that are being used and it's making a mess of the document. I've created my own clean set of styles and now I'd like to remove the rest of them. Is there a way to show on a case-by-case basis, where each style is being applied? Much like how the 'find and replace' works in the Find Font feature. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

    I'm a little unclear on what you need, so these may not be exactly what you're looking for:
    * Scroll the insertion pointer (Text tool) through the document's text and observe the paragraph style that's highlighted in the Paragraph Style panel, or in the Paragraph Style pop-up menu in the Control panel. This is a one-at-a-time operation, so it might not be as efficient as you like.
    This is how I've been working all along and it does work fine for a small document. Though for this large, 150+ page file, I figured there had to be a quicker way, something akin to a global find and replace.
    Apologies if I wasn't sufficiently clear. My point here:
    After
    you identify the existing styles, if you want to replace one or more
    existing style with one of the new ones, use the Load Paragraph Styles
    feature in the Paragraph Styles panel menu, for a single file, or use
    the single file as a Style Source to use with the Synchronize option of
    the book window, to manage the replacement across multiple files in one
    operation. If the files aren't in books, you can create a book just for
    the purpose of doing this batch replacement.
    about the Load Paragraph Styles feature was that after you identify which styles to replace with which other styles, the style mapping feature of Load Styles can specify many styles in one operation, in a single file, rather than one-by-one find/replace operation for each style.
    And, with the book feature, if you want to keep the style name but change the definition of one or more styles across selected files in the book, you can use the Synchronize feature.
    I've entered a feature request for enhancing the book feature to use the Load Styles feature to apply to multiple selected files in the book.

  • How can I OCR only part of a long document?

    OCR with a pdf file is usually very simple.  Not here.  This is a legal-type document (PDF) with with line numbers on the left and vertical lines on both sides of the text I want to OCR.  If OCR includes the line numbers I will have to spend hours removing them. The left side also include a law firm's name and the bottom has the title of the document, both of which I have blocked out.  (Line numbering was fairly common on pre-printed legal stationery in the typewriter days; most courts have gotten beyond the way things were done in those days but obviously.  It obviously makes OCR a challenge!)  In much earlier versions of Acrobat I used a simple tool called Eraser from a British firm (long gone) that neatly erased anything from a pdf file, such as all the stuff I want to get rid of here, before running the OCR and saving the document as a Word file. That tool does not work with Acrobat 9 and the version I am now using, Acrobat X.  Oh, and just retyping all the text is not an option for me.
    There MUST be a way to do this!  Any suggestions?

    Redaction will certainly do the job but it is horribly tedious**.  My document is 19 pages.  With 3 such redactions per page I am looking at close to 60 redactions, one at a time.  All the redactions are identical.  That is, the stuff I want to remove on the left side of the page is the same for each of the 19 pages.  Same with the stuff to be removed on the right and the bottom.  I can't see any way to apply my redaction to more than 1 page at a time.  If doing so is impossible is there a way to extract (by cropping or otherwise) the part of the page I want to use?  Obviously it is the same for all 19 pages.  Is it possible that what I want to remove is in some removable "layer" separate from the text in question?
    **Even more tedious than the low tech solution I have been using for the occasions when I confronted this problem:
    Print a copy of the document
    Using scissors cut out the stuff I want to get rid of, a few pages at a time.
    Using Acrobat scan the resulting document
    Save the result as a PDF file
    Open the PDF file and save is as a Word file
    Open the Word file and copy/paste the absurdly formatted text into a clean Word document.  This strips out the bizarre formatting due to the scanning process.
    Clean up the new Word document, save it and
    Finally get to work using the text.
    FYI the test I want to extract or get consists of written interrogatories or questions for which I must prepare responses.  I want the responses to include the questions.

  • Why can't i write text directly in a Pages document without using a text box ?

    Hello buddies,
    Once upon a time, when I was running Leopard on my MB black, I was able to open a Pages document and type text directly without creating a textbox. That was a great way to take notes during a meeting or to past a long document in, without thinking how many pages it will takes.
    Apparently, this is no more possible ...
    Is any of you can tell me why ?
    And then how can I do to have this possibility back ?
    Thanks forward,
    Best regards,
    Stéphane

    Because you have opened a Layout template.
    Go back to the Template Chooser and pick a Word Processing template, they are listed in the sidebar.

  • Problem with text-overflow:ellipsis

    I have a panel on my page that I am trying to stop from becoming too deep, so I have set a max-height and am expecting the text to present me with '...' when the box is no longer large enough. Trouble is, it's not working. The only time I can get CSS to activate the ellipsis is if I use text-overflow:nowrap, but I need it to wrap for three lines maximum before the ellipsis kick in.
    I have this a rule in my external style:
    .pnlchat {
              background-color: #2a2d2c;
              padding: 35px 35px 28px 35px;
              margin-bottom: 9px;
              max-height:100px;
    And this is inline CSS:
    <div class="pnlchat" style="overflow:hidden; white-space: normal;text-overflow:ellipsis;">
    What am I doing wrong?

    I like this jQuery Condense Plugin.
    https://github.com/jsillitoe/jquery-condense-plugin
    You can configure it to truncate text to however many characters you wish.
    I have a working example below.  Click the MORE+ or LESS+ links to see it in action.

    Hey Gary,
    Have a look at this post: Re: horizontal scrolling similar to excel
    Andy's reply will show you how to make a table scroll horizontally, but it will be tough to accomplish it in some sort of easily replicable way. I am working on a JQuery extension that will help accomplish this, but I have had my time invested in another project at the moment.

  • Can oracle text be used to compare documents?

    lets say that i 've some documents stored in binary(LOB). can oracle text be used to compare documents and show their similarity on the basis of their content. how would i be able to compare documents using Oracle text. does it require mining algorithm like neural network. please help.
    thanks for reading.

    Thank you for your interest in my question. Let me see whether  I can further clarify it. In an ordinary PDF document, assume that I have a picture of a user interface for microsoft Word. The common method for identifying items in the picture, such as a toolbar, would be to either:
    --use a callout labeled "toolbar" that points to the toolbar
    or
    --use a callout labelled "A" and have a caption underneath the picture that says: A) toolbar.
    What I would like to do is have text underneath the picture such as:
    "The major features of the interface shown above are:
    toolbar
    main menu
    status bar
    formatting menu"
    such that, when the user clicks one of the bullet items, the object becomes highlighted in the picture. The bullet list also needs to be translatable into Japanese. So, as far as I know, it can't be part of the swf file. Or can it?

  • Long Documents

    I have a long directory document that I periodically update.
    When I tried to convert this from a Word document to an HTML page,
    Dreamweaver 8 won't let me do it, giving me an error window saying
    that the document would be too long, and that I should cut it into
    multiple pages. Is there any way to bypass this, so I can continue
    to use this long document as one page?

    > Yes. It works and it's much easier.
    I disagree. It works, but it's definitely not easier than
    simply copying
    from Word and pasting into the DW document. *AND* the code
    that results is
    better doing it the latter way, too.
